A delicious and easy-to-make Swiss steak recipe that is cooked in a skillet.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds beef round steak
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Cut beef into serving-sized pieces.
- In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the beef pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the beef pieces and brown on both sides. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
- Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, basil, and oregano to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Return the beef to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.
