Easy Pumpkin Pie

October 24, 2023

No fall gathering or Thanksgiving feast is complete without a slice of pumpkin pie. This iconic dessert, with its velvety pumpkin filling and fragrant blend of spices, has been a seasonal favorite for generations. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and spiced, and every bite feels like autumn itself.

The magic of pumpkin pie lies in its rich filling. Made with a base of pumpkin purée, eggs, and cream, the filling is delicately spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. The spices infuse the pie with warmth and depth, while the pumpkin itself provides a smooth, creamy texture. The result is a dessert that’s both comforting and indulgent, with just the right amount of sweetness.

The crust is equally important, adding a buttery, flaky texture that perfectly complements the spiced filling. While some may opt for a store-bought crust for convenience, homemade crusts are always a hit and add an extra layer of love to the pie. Whether you choose a traditional pie crust or a graham cracker crust, it’s the flaky, golden exterior that makes the first bite so satisfying.

Once baked, the pumpkin pie should be left to cool, allowing the filling to set and develop its flavors. It’s best served chilled or at room temperature, with a dollop of whipped cream on top or a sprinkle of cinnamon. If you’re feeling extra indulgent, a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream can take it to the next level.

Pumpkin pie is the perfect dessert to prepare ahead of time, as the flavors deepen and improve after sitting in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. It’s a comforting and nostalgic treat that never goes out of style, making it an essential part of any autumn or holiday celebration.

Health Benefits of Easy Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie offers more than just indulgent pleasure; it also offers numerous health benefits:

1. Nutritional Powerhouse

Pumpkin, the main ingredient in pumpkin pie, is packed with essential nutrients. It is a great source of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium and dietary fiber. These nutrients promote healthy skin, support the immune system, and aid digestion.

3. Heart-Friendly

Pumpkin is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, making it heart-friendly. Its fiber content helps to regulate blood cholesterol levels and promote cardiovascular health.

4. Antioxidant Rich

The spices used in pumpkin pie, such as cinnamon and nutmeg, are packed with antioxidants. These compounds help to neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

So easy and quick! I just popped it in the oven and relaxed. Even my kids loved it! 👏

    1. 5 stars
That sounds amazing! I love how simple it is. Gonna try it for Thanksgiving! 🥧

Really? Just 15 minutes? That seems too good to be true. How’s it taste after like that? 🤔

  2. 3 stars
i made this pie yesterday and it was too sweet for my taste! I think less condensed milk would help. just my opinion.

    1. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

      3 stars
Really? I thought the sweetness was just right! And I’ve tried a lot of pumpkin pie. Maybe you just have a different taste!

    2. User avatar Marjory Stracke says:

      5 stars
I understand what you mean! I think it can be super sweet sometimes. Less condensed milk sounds like a great idea! 😊

  3. 2 stars
It’s okay, but where’s the spark? Needs more spices or something. Didn’t taste pumpkin-y enough!

  4. User avatar willie.schultz says:

    3 stars
I don’t know… it seemed too sweet for me. I think I might cut the condensed milk next time.

  5. User avatar marvin.hyatt says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe, but mine turned out too runny. I think my pumpkin puree was too watery.

  6. User avatar anderson.jaskolski1987 says:

    3 stars
Too much cinnamon for my taste, maybe cut it down? Just me?

  7. 2 stars
The ginger + nutmeg combo is not for me. It tastes kinda sharp. Also, my crust got a little dark even with the temperature drop—watch it.

    1. 5 stars
Totally get what you mean—ginger + nutmeg can go sharp if the amounts feel a little heavy. Next time I’d try cutting both to 1/4 tsp each (or even swapping one for extra cinnamon) and see if it mellows. Also good tip about the crust—15 min at 425 is intense.

    2. User avatar loriann.pfeffer2002 says:

      3 stars
Hmm I dunno, I’ve made pumpkin pie w/ ginger before and it was fine. But if your crust got dark, I’d cover the edges earlier next time? Like when it starts browning, foil ring. Also could be your oven runs hot—425 is kinda high, 350 for 35-40 should do most of the work.

  8. 4 stars
This’d be better if they told us how to make the crust too!

  9. 4 stars
Yum! And it’s super duper easy. I just used a store-bought crust because who has time to make one? Haha!

  10. User avatar melonie.schneider says:

Skeptical about mixing pumpkin with condensed milk. But wow, surprisingly good!

  15. User avatar leif.hickle1957 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about just whisking everything together, but it actually turned out smooth. Mine cracked a bit on top, though—probably overbaked?

  16. 4 stars
I followed it exactly and it tasted like pumpkin-flavored custard (in a good way). My kids went back for seconds, so yeah.

  17. User avatar antony.konopelski says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about using sweetened condensed milk, but it tastes like classic pumpkin pie. Great shortcut.

  18. User avatar Shrine Maidens says:

    3 stars
The spices are kinda faint for me. I might double the nutmeg/cinnamon next time, because right now it just tastes like pumpkin and not enough wow.

  19. 5 stars
This pumpkin pie is absolutely delicious! The sweetened condensed milk really makes a difference. Will definitely make again! 🍰

  20. User avatar isreal.dach says:

    5 stars

  21. 5 stars
Made this for Thanksgiving and it came out super smooth and not too spicy. The condensed milk flavor is perfect—will definitely bake again.

    1. User avatar tom.vandervort says:

      5 stars
Love this! Thanksgiving can be chaotic, so it’s awesome it still turned out smooth and not too spicy. The condensed milk note makes me want to try it—thanks for confirming the flavor.

  22. 2 stars
I followed the recipe to the letter but my pie was super runny. Did anyone else have this problem? What did I do wrong? 😕

  23. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

    4 stars
Simple and delicious. I used a store-bought crust but it still turned out great! Thanks for sharing.

  24. 3 stars
Pumpkin pie is better with whip cream on top. You forgot to mention it here.

  25. User avatar james.bode says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, it turned out kinda bland. My friends say they liked it, but I think it needs more spice!

This pumpkin pie is amazing! I made it for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. So easy to follow the recipe!

  27. 5 stars
Perfect holiday treat! I’m definitely adding this to my Thanksgiving menu. Can’t wait to wow my guests!

  28. User avatar kendall.ratke73 says:

    2 stars
425F for 15 min then 350? Kinda crazy tbh. Mine overflowed because my pie shell wasn’t deep enough. Flavor still good, but I wouldn’t call it perfect.

  29. User avatar erasmo.flatley33 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night and it’s dangerously good—so creamy and spiced. I baked mine closer to 40 min and it set perfectly. 10/10 comfort food.

  30. User avatar Liet-Kynes says:

    4 stars
425 for 15 minutes then 350? Seems a little intense but it worked. The texture was like custard, not watery. Would make again for sure.

  31. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    2 stars
Why does it say to bake at 425? My oven can’t go that high! Can I just bake it longer at 350?

  32. User avatar ladonna.moore says:

    3 stars
Is pumpkin pie supposed 2 be this sweet? I could hardly taste the pumpkin. Next time less milk! 😩

  33. User avatar marcene.torphy says:

    3 stars
Mine curdled slightly around the edges… I whisked for a while but maybe my eggs were too cold. The center still set, so not a total loss.

  34. User avatar alanna.dietrich says:

    2 stars
I dunno about this one. Mine came out too runny, maybe I did something wrong? Can’t trust canned pumpkin, I usually use fresh.

  35. User avatar Loonquawl says:

    3 stars
The bake times were weird for my oven. 15 minutes + 40 minutes almost overdid it, but the center still set. Flavor is good regardless.

  36. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

    4 stars
Kinda basic but it works. Could use more spice idk, I added vanilla too.

    1. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! A little more spice would make it pop. Vanilla sounds interesting though! I’ll have to try that.

  37. 5 stars
Yum! I add a bit of clove too, it brings out more flavor!

    1. User avatar hunter.okuneva1987 says:

      2 stars
Nah, clove is too strong, just stick to the classic spices, it’s better that way!

    2. User avatar xiomara.senger92 says:

      4 stars
Clove? Really? I’ve never thought of that! Might have to try it next time. Thanks for the tip!

  38. User avatar wellRespected says:

    5 stars
Pretty easy steps, didn’t even need to overthink it. The spices smell amazing while baking. I might add a little vanilla next time for depth.

  39. User avatar kaleigh.bogan92 says:

    4 stars
I followed the instructions exactly, but mine cracked a little on top. Still tasted great though. Next time I’ll maybe bake a couple minutes less.

  40. User avatar Xavier Breath says:

    5 stars
This pie was amazing! Perfectly spiced and super easy to make. My family loved it!

The recipe worked perfectly. Everyone loved it! Definitely making again!

    1. User avatar Reena Macejkovic says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear it! Pumpkin pie is the best for fall. What other recipes are you trying?

  43. User avatar brice.mertz says:

    5 stars
I think this pie taste like the ones at that bakery down the street! So good!!! 🍰

  44. User avatar ocie.jaskolski says:

    5 stars
Pumpkin pie is my fave! This recipe made it simple. Thanks for sharing!

  45. 4 stars
Yum!!! But why does this call for condensed milk? Can’t you just use sugar? 🤔

    1. User avatar grazyna.kuhic87 says:

      5 stars
Condensed milk gives it that extra creaminess and sweetness! Just sugar won’t make it as rich. Trust me, it’s worth it! 😋

  46. User avatar ariel.batz18 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I felt like it needed more salt or maybe more ginger? Like it tasted flat at first. Also I burnt my first attempt because I forgot to reduce the temp.

    1. User avatar Ryuu Shenlong says:

      3 stars
I dunno, I followed it and mine was fine. Maybe you just needed to bake longer not add more stuff. Also 425 then 350… the oven be trippin, so yeah if you forgot the temp it’ll burn fast.

    2. User avatar loura.orn1973 says:

      5 stars
Good point! I always taste the pumpkin mix before it goes in—flat usually means it needs a tiny pinch more salt (or a touch more ginger). Burning the first one happens; the temp reduction step is easy to miss.

  47. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

    2 stars
Not sure if the canned pumpkin is the best, fresh is always better, right? 🤔

  48. User avatar estefana.cronin1974 says:

    2 stars
Quick question: is 15 ounce pumpkin puree definitely 1 can? Cuz mine was 16oz and it kinda overflowed. Next time I’ll measure, not trust the label.

    1. User avatar omer.legros6 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, usually a standard canned pumpkin is 15 oz, so 1 can = 15 oz. If yours was 16 oz and overflowed, it’s basically a “measure twice” moment—still should taste fine though. Next time just use the measured amount and you’ll be golden.

    2. 4 stars
I think 15 oz is most common, but cans can vary by brand, like 16 oz sometimes. Your overflow doesn’t surprise me—pie crusts also differ. I’d just measure the puree next time instead of relying on the can size.

  49. User avatar tuan.stanton says:

    3 stars
425°F for 15 minutes feels a bit aggressive. I was nervous, and sure enough the crust browned faster than the filling. Next time I’ll shield the edges sooner.

  50. User avatar bernie.donnelly1995 says:

    3 stars
Came out okay, but way too sweet for me. Sweetened condensed milk is a lot. Next time I’ll try reducing it or using evaporated milk.

  51. User avatar ann.oconner says:

    1 star
Pumpkin? More like yuckkin pie! Not a fan, sorry. It’s not my type of dessert.

  52. 5 stars
This pie was a hit at our Thanksgiving dinner! So creamy and delicious. Easy to make too!

  53. User avatar melita.smitham says:

    4 stars
Followed the steps exactly (including lowering the temp), and it was smooth with no lumps. Only thing: my bake time ended up closer to 45 min because the center was still wobbly at 40.

  54. User avatar Professor Shikashi says:

    3 stars
I used a store-bought pie shell and the edges got too dark. I covered them with foil halfway and saved it, but the recipe doesn’t mention that.

    1. User avatar gilbert.luettgen7 says:

      5 stars
Totally makes sense—pie edges love to brown faster than the filling. I usually tent the crust with foil (or use a pie shield) for the first part of baking, then uncover near the end. Your fix was right on.

  55. User avatar boyce.balistreri says:

    1 star
Pumpkin pie? Nah, not my thing. But recipe seems clear.

    1. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! Pumpkin pie is an acquired taste. But it’s nice that the recipe is clear for those who love it! 🍰

  56. User avatar linn.legros1972 says:

    3 stars
I tried making this twice, both times it turned out a bit runny. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

    1. 4 stars
Maybe you didn’t bake it long enough? That can make it runny. Just keep an eye on it next time! 😊

  57. 5 stars
Best pumpkin pie ever!!! Can’t believe I took so long to try making it. Thanks for sharing!

    1. User avatar paulita.torp1979 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s my favorite fall recipe!

    2. User avatar erich.ankunding27 says:

      3 stars
I don’t know, seems too easy. Can it really be that good?

  58. User avatar jordan.kilback40 says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I’m more of a pecan pie fan, but this was alright. 😅

  59. 1 star
Pumpkin? Eww. Why would anyone eat that? I don’t get it!

  60. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    3 stars
I dunno, mine came out kinda mushy. Did I do somethin wrong?
