Pickle in a Blanket

August 7, 2025

Pickle in a Blanket is one of those genius snack ideas that checks all the boxes – it’s quick, easy, flavorful, and always a hit at parties. With just three simple ingredients – pickles, cheese, and deli meat – you can whip up a tray of these in minutes. No oven, no stove, no fancy prep required.

At its core, this snack is about bold contrast. You get the crunch and tang of the pickle, the creamy richness of the cheese, and the savory bite of the meat all in one satisfying roll. It’s the perfect mix of textures and flavors, proving that simple can still be exciting. Whether you use ham, turkey, salami, or roast beef, each deli meat brings a different flair. The same goes for cheese – from sharp cheddar to smooth cream cheese or smoky gouda, the possibilities are endless.

Pickles in a Blanket aren’t just a party favorite. They’re also a go-to option for low-carb and keto eaters. Packed with protein, low in carbs, and totally gluten-free, they’re a fun snack you can feel good about. They also store well in the fridge, so you can make them ahead for meal prep, lunchboxes, road trips, or late-night cravings.

Presentation is simple too – arrange them on a platter or slice them into bite-sized pinwheels for extra flair. Add a few toothpicks, and you’ve got an effortless appetizer that’s ready to serve. You can even level them up with a swipe of mustard, a dash of hot sauce, or a sprinkle of herbs for more depth.

What makes Pickle in a Blanket so loved is that it doesn’t pretend to be anything fancy. It’s just good, craveable food made from ingredients you probably already have in your fridge. Whether you’re hosting friends or just need a snack in a hurry, this fun little wrap delivers every time. It’s salty, tangy, creamy, and just the right kind of weird – the kind of weird you’ll want to keep eating.

Yum, I added some mustard too! Taste great! 10/10

I don’t get it. How can you like pickles and mustard together? Sounds gross to me.

Mustard? That’s a weird choice. I think it’s better without it. But glad you liked it!

Not for me. The pickles are too sour with the ham. Just stick to normal sandwiches!

I totally get that! Pickles can be super strong flavored, especially with ham. Everyone has their own taste, right? 😄

Why does everyone love pickles so much? They’re just cucumbers in vinegar.

    1. 5 stars
Pickles are amazing! They add the perfect crunch and flavor to any dish. You just gotta try them wrapped like this!

I don’t see the hype… they just taste sour. What’s the big deal?!

Um, idk. This seems kinda weird to me. Pickles and ham? Really??

    1. 5 stars
I thought the same thing at first, but it’s actually really good! Give it a try, you might be surprised! 😋

I don’t know about this…pickles and cheese? Seems odd. Not for me.

    1. User avatar hung.erdman says:

I was skeptical too, but they are surprisingly good! The flavors really come together. Give it a try!

I think the measurements are off? Like 4 slices ham and 4 whole pickles seems random—depends on how big your pickles are. Still tasty.

    1. User avatar lonnie.parker2011 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean—“4 whole pickles” is super pickle-size-dependent. But it usually works out if your pickles are the standard deli-style ones.

  10. User avatar Rubie Champlin says:

Yum! I tried it with turkey and swiss too, turned out amazing! Thanks!

The flavor is surprisingly good. I was skeptical about putting pickles in with cheese but it works.

Pickles are not food! I don’t understand why people eat them like this lol.

  14. User avatar ArabianNights says:

My friend said these r amazing but I found them kinda salty. Just me maybe?

    1. User avatar roseanne.larkin says:

      4 stars
I guess it depends on the brand of pickles you use! Some can be super salty. Try a different pickle next time!

  15. 3 stars
Hmm… it just doesn’t sound right, pickles and cheese together?! Nah. :/

    1. User avatar savannah.bradtke says:

      2 stars
No way. That’s just plain wrong. Pickles should never be with cheese! 😂

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      4 stars
I thought the same thing at first! But trust me, it works. The saltiness of the pickle pairs really well with the cheese. You might be surprised!

  16. User avatar quentin.wilkinson says:

I didn’t have thinly sliced cheese so I used thicker pieces—still tasted fine, but rolling was harder. Still worth it though.

  17. User avatar noble.shields71 says:

    4 stars
Mine looked a bit messy when rolling (ham slipped), but taste was great. The pickle stays nice and tangy.

    1. User avatar warner.murray19 says:

      5 stars
Mine looked messy too—ham definitely doesn’t wanna stay put. But yeah, the tangy pickle really makes it shine. Next time I’m gonna roll a little tighter.

  18. 4 stars
I swapped the ham for turkey, tasted great! You can modify it!!! 4 stars.

  19. 4 stars
Tried it with Havarti instead of cheddar and it still worked great. Wish I had thinner ham though—rolling was a bit annoying.

  20. User avatar sacha.muller41 says:

So easy to make! My kids loved it, will be a regular snack now. Thanks!

  21. User avatar vickey.mayert48 says:

No heating step?? I guess they’re meant to be cold. I warmed mine in a pan and the cheese melted more, but it’s not “as written.”

  22. User avatar sonny.ernser7 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but calling it “pickle in a blanket” feels misleading. It’s more like a cold roll-up unless you bake it (didn’t mention that).

  23. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    4 stars
This was my childhood vibe but elevated. I wish the recipe had a cook step, but the flavor combo is solid and easy.

  24. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but mine leaked pickle juices a little and made a mess on the plate. Maybe pat the pickles dry first?

  25. User avatar karena.treutel says:

    4 stars
I don’t get why people love pickles with cheese… but I guess I’m wrong? The sour + salty combo is actually addictive. Would make again.

  26. User avatar Dr. Ivan Beahan says:

    5 stars
LOL “pickle in a blanket” sounds like something my grandma would make. I added crushed pepper on top and it was fire. 10/10 would make again!

    What’s with the pickle n cheese? Y’all serious? 🤨 I won’t be trying this. 1 star.

  28. User avatar natisha.schaden says:

Do these have to be dill pickles? I prefer sweet ones.

    1. User avatar Ta'log Naeg says:

      5 stars
You can definitely use sweet pickles! They could add a nice twist to the recipe. Enjoy!

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      3 stars
But wait, isn’t it called ‘Pickle in a Blanket’ for a reason? Dill is key! Just sayin’.

  29. User avatar euna.zulauf26 says:

    4 stars
Honestly? This is the first time I’ve made something like this and it was way easier than I expected. Super snackable.

    1. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      5 stars
Right?! I was expecting it to be fussy, but the rolling is basically foolproof. Snackable is the perfect word.

  30. User avatar Romani and Cremia says:

    3 stars
I followed exactly and it turned out cute but not very exciting flavor-wise. The cheddar got lost. Maybe add mustard or something next time.

  31. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

    3 stars
I think I added too much cheese, it’s a bit rich but still good. Maybe less next time!

  32. User avatar kimi.predovic says:

    2 stars
I don’t think this is a real recipe. Pickles and ham? That’s just weird.

  33. 1 star
Pickles in a blanket? Like, come on, that’s not even a real recipe. LOL.

  34. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, the “like a burrito” comparison made me laugh. Also—did you mean wrap or roll like sushi? Mine ended up more like folded.

  35. User avatar dorethea.lesch8 says:

    5 stars
I love these. Quick, salty, and crunchy-salty combo. I served them with ranch and everyone asked for the recipe.

  36. 5 stars
These are surprisingly good! I didn’t think pickles would work like this, but wow! 5 stars!

  37. 2 stars
Uhm, not really my thing. The pickles just made it too soggy. 2/5.

  38. User avatar Noah Hermiston says:

    3 stars
I tried it and mine didn’t really “roll like a burrito” because my ham slices were a bit thick. Still tasted good though—just messier.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—thick deli ham is the enemy of the “burrito” roll. Next time I’d go thinner or even lightly pound the slices. Glad it still tasted good though!

    2. User avatar paige.grimes66 says:

      3 stars
Mine rolled fine… but I think your problem is the pickles being too big? Like, cut ’em in half? Also I used regular cheddar and it was a little greasy lol. Still yummy.

  39. User avatar edison.heaney92 says:

    5 stars
These are a total party favorite! The dill pickles really cut through the richness. Rolled up perfectly and the ham-cheese combo is so satisfying.

  40. User avatar kai.herzog86 says:

    5 stars
Five stars for the concept alone—my kids literally ate them straight off the tray. Next time I’ll do a quick pan-sear for crisping.
