Millet Porridge

February 4, 2025

Millet porridge is a wholesome, comforting breakfast option that’s both nutritious and versatile. Made from millet, a naturally gluten-free whole grain, this porridge is packed with essential nutrients like fiber, protein, and vitamins, making it a great start to your day. Its creamy, slightly nutty flavor pairs wonderfully with sweet or savory toppings, allowing you to customize it to your liking.

The base of millet porridge is simple: millet grains are cooked in water or milk (dairy or plant-based) until tender, creating a creamy and smooth texture. The cooking process is similar to that of oatmeal or quinoa, but the millet grains have a delicate, slightly chewy texture that adds an interesting contrast to the creamy consistency of the porridge.

For a sweet version, you can add a touch of honey or maple syrup, along with fresh fruit like berries, bananas, or apples. A sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla can be added to give the porridge a warm, comforting flavor. For a creamy touch, a dollop of yogurt or a splash of coconut milk can be stirred in, making it even more indulgent.

If you prefer a savory porridge, millet can be paired with sautéed vegetables, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. You can also add a poached or fried egg on top for added protein, or stir in some cheese or herbs for extra flavor.

Millet porridge is incredibly versatile and can be made ahead for busy mornings. It keeps well in the fridge and can be easily reheated with a splash of milk or water to restore its creamy texture. Whether you enjoy it sweet or savory, millet porridge offers a nourishing and satisfying start to the day.

Packed with nutrients and full of flavor, this porridge is the perfect healthy breakfast option for those looking to add more whole grains to their diet or explore new breakfast ideas.

This is a great recipe! I added some almond milk instead of water, and it came out delightful. Perfect for breakfast!

Millet porridge sounds humble but wow—this is actually cozy. The honey + berries combo is perfect. I’m making this again.

    1. 4 stars
I tried it but I think my millet needed longer—mine was a little gritty. Still tasty though with honey. Maybe I’ll do 25-30 min next time.

    2. User avatar jeanie.turner says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I made this after work and it was so cozy. The honey with berries makes it taste way more “special” than it has any right to. 😊

  3. User avatar verla.johns1971 says:

    2 stars
I think I messed it up—mine was too thick and stuck to the bottom. Maybe I didn’t stir enough. Still edible though, just needed more water.

  4. 3 stars
Is it supposed to be this bland? I think some nuts would help!

  5. User avatar giovanni.towne78 says:

    3 stars
I thought we should be using rice instead, isn’t millet for bird food??

  6. User avatar mika.spinka49 says:

    4 stars
Millet recipes are hard to find, so thanks! Never cooked it before, tho.

  7. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

You said to simmer for 20 min but mine took longer to cook. Anyone else have that issue? 3 stars.

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      4 stars
I had the same problem! It took me about 25 minutes to get it right. Maybe it depends on the stove? 4 stars!

  8. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    5 stars
Tried this for breakfast and it turned out creamy and not too sweet. The timing was pretty spot on—mine needed an extra 3 minutes to get fully tender.

    1. User avatar bobbie.langosh says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked out! Mine also takes a bit longer sometimes—depends on the millet. Extra 3 minutes sounds about right for tenderness.

  9. 1 star
Why would you use millet? Just stick to oatmeal, right?

    1. User avatar Android 19 says:

      4 stars
Millet is actually a great alternative! It’s gluten-free and packed with nutrients. Oatmeal is fine, but trying different grains can be fun and healthy.

    2. User avatar Porsha Parker V says:

      3 stars
Oatmeal is good too but this millet porridge sounds interesting. Ever tried it? I think it could taste good with fruit.

  10. 2 stars
It’s okay. I prefer oatmeal. And the honey didn’t really save it.

  11. 3 stars
Never tried millet before. Is it really that healthy? Not sure if I’ll make this.

  12. 2 stars
I think you should use 1 cup millet not 1/2 cup or it won’t thicken lol. Mine was thin and i added extra honey anyway.

  13. User avatar Draugr Deathlord says:

    5 stars
Love this! I made it with almond milk for extra creaminess and it turned out awesome!

    1. 2 stars
Almond milk? Isn’t that for smoothies? Not sure if it’s the same in porridge, but okay?

    2. User avatar carmine.dickinson73 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! Almond milk is such a great idea for this! I’m definitely trying it!

Quick question, can I use quinoa instead? I have that at home.

  18. User avatar alejandrina.hermann90 says:

    2 stars
Not a fan of honey, can I skip it? 🤔

  19. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, millet porridge sounds boring on paper. But the honey + banana combo made it actually enjoyable. Would make again.

  20. User avatar Marcellus Renner DVM says:

    2 stars
I’m lazy so I did the honey at the end and forgot to stir—turned out lumpy. Kinda my fault though. Still, could be better with more liquid.

    1. 4 stars
Oof—yeah, if you forgot to stir it can get lumpy fast 😅. Next time try stirring a couple times during that low simmer, and adding a splash more water/milk at the end if it’s too thick.

  21. User avatar ladawn.klocko14 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure why mine was still a little chewy after 20 minutes… maybe my millet was older? Still tasted good with extra honey.

  22. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

    5 stars
My kids loved it! Thanks for the recipe! 🌟

  23. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

Is millet even good? I tried it once and it tasted like nothing. Maybe I did something wrong.

  26. User avatar angelica.champlin says:

    3 stars
It’s ok, but honestly I thought it would be sweeter. Maybe I just need more honey next time?

Easy and healthy! My kids actually ate it without fuss. Woah!

  28. User avatar kellee.ullrich11 says:

YUM! I had it with strawberries and it was delicious!

  36. User avatar cruz.turcotte says:

    5 stars
Perfect breakfast! I love how healthy it is, can’t believe it took me so long to try!

  37. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about millet porridge, but it turned out okay. Texture is a little grainy compared to oats (which is probably the point), and I had to stir more often than expected.

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      2 stars
Millet porridge? I tried once and it was like sand soup 😅 I wonder if 20 minutes is enough… Did you rinse the millet well or was it old? I think honey should go in at the end or it burns.

    2. User avatar librada.kuvalis62 says:

      5 stars
Same! I expected it to be weirdly gritty, but once it thickened it was honestly comforting. I also noticed it needs more stirring than oatmeal—maybe that’s just millet being millet.

  38. User avatar dewitt.stanton says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make. I added some chopped apples and it was great.

  39. User avatar joe_banana says:

Isn’t millet for birds? I don’t get why people eat this. 🤔

    1. User avatar mark.nolan says:

      5 stars
Millet is actually super nutritious! It’s a great source of protein and fiber. Many cultures eat it! Don’t knock it till you try it! 😊

    2. User avatar casandra.schroeder42 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, I’ve heard some people say it’s just for birds too. Not sure why anyone would eat it if that’s true. 😕

  42. 5 stars
Super easy to make! My kids loved it with bananas. Will spread the word! 5 stars.

  43. User avatar maisha.ohara says:

    3 stars
Meh, it was okay. I expected more flavor. Maybe I should’ve added more honey?

  44. 5 stars
    Millet porridge rocks! 🥣

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree! It’s so comforting and nutritious. 🥰

  45. 5 stars
Made this for breakfast today and it turned out really comforting. I used milk instead of water and the texture was nice and creamy. The honey + berries combo is perfect.

  46. User avatar kyle.schuppe22 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people like millet. It’s gritty and not sweet like oatmeal. Meh.

  47. User avatar rich.landlord says:

So simple! Perfect for breakfast. Love the honey and fruit combo.

  48. 5 stars
Delicious!!! I used almond milk and added strawberries. Yum!

    1. User avatar olimpia.klein41 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know about almond milk in porridge. Isn’t it usually made with regular milk? Just seems… weird.

    2. 5 stars
That sounds amazing! Strawberries really would add a nice touch to the porridge. I’ll have to try that next time!

  49. User avatar stefany.mraz29 says:

    3 stars
Very easy to make but mine turned out a bit watery. Maybe I used too much water?

    1. User avatar era.blanda says:

      2 stars
Watery? I thought it was supposed to be like that! Not very good then, huh?

    2. User avatar earlene.windler40 says:

      4 stars
I find that using less water helps a lot! I usually stick to 1.5 cups instead of 2. Maybe give that a try next time!

  50. User avatar marguerite.ward60 says:

    5 stars
This porridge is the best! So easy to make and tastes great. I added some berries and it was perfect!

  51. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

    3 stars
Millet? Never heard of it. Is it like oatmeal? 🤔

  52. User avatar pearle.bauch says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I added cinnamon and nutmeg. My kids love it! 😍

    1. 2 stars
Cinnamon? Really? Isn’t that like, for baked goods only? I dunno if that’d work. 🤔

    2. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

      5 stars
That sounds amazing! I’ve never thought of adding cinnamon and nutmeg; I’ll have to try that next time! It’s a hit in my house too. 😊

Great recipe! I added some cinnamon and it was magic. Will be making this again! 4 stars.

  54. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

Not sure about millet… it’s kinda weird. I used rice instead and it was fine.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      4 stars
I get it! Millet can be a little different, but it’s really nutritious! Glad you found a substitute that worked for you!

  55. User avatar erik.denesik says:

    2 stars
Kinda seems like a hippie dish to me, but I gave it a try. Not my favorite.

  56. User avatar ross.metz says:

    5 stars
So simple and easy, this is definitely a breakfast staple now! Thanks!

    1. User avatar rubin.stoltenberg says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked it! It’s so filling too! Perfect start to the day.

  57. 4 stars
Quick and easy recipe! But I think it could use some cinnamon or something for flavor.

    1. User avatar barbar.haley says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! A sprinkle of cinnamon would really elevate it. Great suggestion!

  58. User avatar henry.pfeffer says:

Yuck! I didn’t like it at all, sorry but that honey can’t save it.

  59. User avatar ashly.mayert says:

    4 stars
I don’t like honey, can I use sugar? Asking for a friend.

    1. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

      4 stars
Yea, sugar is fine! It’ll just taste a bit different. Just start small with it.

  60. User avatar justbob says:

    5 stars
So simple! I used mangoes on top. Yum! ❤️

  61. User avatar danny.reilly2020 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I love how you can customize it with different fruits. Great for breakfast!

    1. 3 stars
Sounds good, but can you really call it porridge? Looks kinda like rice to me. 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar efren.pfannerstill1985 says:

      5 stars
Absolutely! I love adding mango and nuts to mine. It’s a game changer for breakfast!

  62. User avatar harlan.hartmann says:

I love this recipe! So healthy and filling. Way better than my usual cereal.

  63. User avatar bart.weimann says:

    5 stars
This is just sooo good! I never knew millet could taste this way. 5!

  64. User avatar kaitlin.price says:

    4 stars
Easy and cheap! I stirred more often than the recipe says and it stayed smooth. Would recommend soaking the millet? Maybe not necessary though.

  65. User avatar Ms. Myrle Feest says:

    3 stars
Honestly, 20 minutes felt optimistic. I kept waiting for it to thicken and it took way longer on my stove. Flavor was decent, but timing needs adjusting.

  66. User avatar marine.dibbert1956 says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly and mine was still crunchy at 20 minutes. Maybe my stovetop runs cold? Ended up cooking longer and it was better.

    1. 5 stars
I’ve had that happen too—20 minutes isn’t always enough depending on the millet brand and how hot your “low” really is. Glad you adjusted and got it to tender!

  67. User avatar Majin Vegeta says:

    2 stars
Okay but 1/4 tsp salt?? too much for sweet breakfast imo. Mine tasted salty a little.

    1. User avatar jason.denesik19 says:

      4 stars
I get you—1/4 tsp can feel like a lot for sweet porridge. I’ve found it depends on what kind of salt you use and how much honey you add. If yours tasted salty, just cut it to like a pinch next time and you’ll be good.

  68. User avatar angeline.jerde says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty exactly and mine was kinda thick and clumpy. Maybe I didn’t stir enough, but next time I’ll add a bit more water.

  69. User avatar major.brekke8 says:

    5 stars
This is the best porridge ever! So creamy and yummy!

  70. User avatar Spriggan Earth Mother says:

    3 stars
Idk why people say it’s good. I tried it and it was just okay.

  71. User avatar Android 20 says:

    3 stars
Can I use quinoa instead of millet? I like quinoa better.

    1. User avatar tuan.williamson83 says:

      5 stars
Quinoa is great! It should work fine, just might change the texture a bit. Enjoy!

    2. User avatar gene.wunsch1974 says:

      3 stars
I dunno, quinoa might be too mushy for porridge. Millet has its own thing goin’ on.

  72. User avatar tracie.cole10 says:

    2 stars
Millet what?? Tried this and it was meh, not my thing.

  73. User avatar Miss Racheal Collins says:

    3 stars
It took forever to cook! But other than that, it was alright.

    1. User avatar brett.johnston1995 says:

      4 stars
I think cooking it a little longer could make it perfect! I love using coconut milk instead of water for a creamier texture. 😊

    2. 2 stars
20 minutes ain’t forever! Maybe you just gotta plan better next time.

  74. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but mine took closer to 30 minutes to get tender. I kept it on low and stirred more often—still tasty though. Next time I’ll add a little extra liquid.

    1. User avatar Hurdy Gurdy Man says:

      5 stars
Thanks! 30 minutes on low sounds totally plausible depending on the millet. I’ll try adding a touch more liquid next time too—good call.

  75. 4 stars
I like this recipe, but I added too much honey. Lesson learned.

    1. User avatar Barry Manilow says:

      3 stars
Too much honey? That’s not a big deal, just add more millet to balance it out! 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar teofila.padberg1981 says:

      4 stars
Glad you liked it! Maybe try less honey next time? It’s a learning process. 😊

  76. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

    1 star
Who even eats millet?? Just stick with rice. Less weird.

  77. 2 stars
Kinda bland, maybe needs more honey or something. Not the best porridge I’ve had, but not awful either. 2 stars.

  78. User avatar wellRespected says:

    3 stars
I not sure about this. Can’t you just use oats? Seems like extra work for not much flavor.

  79. 5 stars
This is great for meal prep! I made a batch, cooled it, and reheated with a little extra water. Tastes nearly the same.

  80. User avatar Grìma Wormtongue says:

    2 stars
I followed steps exactly but mine came out kinda gritty. Maybe my millet was old? Still, salt + honey saved it.

  81. User avatar stan.kuvalis89 says:

    5 stars
This porridge is a great way to start the day! So filling and yummy.

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! This porridge is so hearty and perfect for chilly mornings. Plus, adding bananas makes it so tasty!

    2. User avatar tova.corkery92 says:

      2 stars
Really? I didn’t find it that great. It’s just grains and water, not very exciting. Maybe I’m missing something?

  82. User avatar Meriadoc Brandybuck says:

    4 stars
Honestly, I thought this was gonna be gross. But wow, I’m surprised! Will make again.

  83. User avatar Glossu "Beast" Rabban says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think it needs more flavor. Maybe some cinnamon or nuts would help?

  84. 5 stars
This porridge is sooo good! I used almond milk instead and added some strawberries. Yummy!

  85. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    1 star
I don’t see how this is any good. Looks like bird food to me. Tried it and honestly, never again. 1 star.

  86. User avatar ilda.gulgowski2015 says:

    2 stars
I didn’t really like the texture. Millet is kinda weird.

  87. 3 stars
This was just okay. Prefer my cereal.

  88. 5 stars
Millet is underrated. This recipe is simple and actually makes a smooth porridge. I added blueberries and cinnamon and it was great.

  89. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    4 stars
Tried it with milk instead of water like the recipe suggests. Way creamier, almost like oatmeal. Next time I’ll add a pinch more salt because it tasted a tiny bit flat at first.

  90. User avatar deborah.blanda49 says:

    3 stars
This tastes healthy but kinda bland without the fruits. The honey helps, but I needed more cinnamon or something.

  91. User avatar Mountain Minish says:

    2 stars
Why not just use oats? Millet porridge feels like extra work for the same result… but I guess it’s healthier?

    1. User avatar reed.herman30 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean about the extra step, but millet has its own flavor and texture. It can turn out lighter than oats for me, and it’s not always “the same result.” Plus, millet tends to be filling—especially with fruit and a drizzle of honey.

  92. User avatar neely.hagenes says:

    2 stars
The measurements are easy, but I must’ve used the wrong kind of millet? Mine turned out a bit gritty. Flavor was fine.

  93. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    3 stars
Millet? That’s a new one for me. Is it even healthy? I might stick with oatmeal. 3 stars.

  94. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, millet is kinda weird. I prefer oats. It just didn’t taste right to me.

  95. User avatar Guillermina Schuster says:

    5 stars
This porridge is sooo good! I used almond milk instead of water, and it turned out creamy and delicious! 🥣

  96. User avatar cruz.bosco94 says:

    4 stars
Millet is so underrated! I love how healthy this is, will make it again!

  97. User avatar ward.aufderhar says:

    3 stars
Wait—shouldn’t it be 2 cups milk if you want it creamy? I did water + milk and it got kinda weird. Maybe my ratio was off lol.

  98. 5 stars
This is the easiest breakfast ever! I made it while multitasking. Thanks for the recipe!

  99. User avatar fernando.buckridge says:

    3 stars
I like it a lot, but my husband said it was too weird. Maybe just try it.

  100. User avatar quinton.kertzmann says:

Love it! My kid asked for seconds and didn’t complain about the grain (big win). Such an easy meal.

  101. User avatar Barry Manilow says:

    2 stars
Well, I made it and my kids didn’t eat it. Guess they prefer oatmeal. Might try again.

    1. 4 stars
Kids can be picky! Maybe try adding some cinnamon or chocolate next time. Keep experimenting!

  102. 5 stars
Wow, this millet porridge is incredible! So creamy with the milk substitute! Definitely a 5.

  103. User avatar riley.littel89 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about the millet here—my porridge turned out kind of thick and bland until I added more honey. If you like sweet breakfasts, this is fine.

Super quick and cheap. Five stars!

    1. User avatar ollie.altenwerth81 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this one feels fast and super forgiving. I love how the millet thickens up without much fuss. 5 stars easy!

    2. User avatar Jesica Marquardt says:

      4 stars
Quick maybe, but “cheap” depends—millet where I live is kinda pricey. Also I tried it with only water and it felt bland until I added more honey 😅 Still good though!

  105. 5 stars
This is delicious! I used 1/2 cup frozen blueberries and it thickened faster than 20 mins. I’m making it again tomorrow for breakfast.

  106. 4 stars
This reminds me of something my grandma made, but she used oatmeal. Still, I like the texture difference. Salt amount seems right.

  107. User avatar Grunthos the Flatulent says:

    3 stars
I tried it with no honey because I’m trying to cut sugar. It was still okay with the fruit, but kind of bland on its own.

  108. 5 stars
Yummy porridge! Wud recommend to everyone! 🙂 5!

    One word: Delicious.

    1. 5 stars
Agreed—millet porridge is surprisingly tasty. 😋

  110. User avatar alyssa.cummerata92 says:

    2 stars
Not a fan. The texture was weird for me. Maybe I did something wrong.

  111. User avatar erasmo.kunde says:

    3 stars
I tried it but it was kinda bland. I know there’s salt, but I think it needs more sweetness or cinnamon or something. Would make again though.

    1. User avatar tequila.robel50 says:

      3 stars
Hmm I’m surprised it was bland. The recipe has 1 tbsp honey + fruit—maybe you didn’t sweeten enough? Try adding a bit more honey and maybe a splash of milk instead of water.

    2. 4 stars
Totally get it—millet can be pretty neutral. I always add a pinch more salt *and* cinnamon (like 1/4 tsp) before simmering, then sweeten at the end. Makes it way less bland.

  112. User avatar darren.bins1957 says:

    1 star
Ugh! This was a disaster. My millet turned into mush. What did I do wrong?

  113. 2 stars
Millet porridge sounds healthy but meh. I expected it to be softer—mine was thick like paste. Next time I’ll add more liquid.

  114. 5 stars
This was really good! I added some cinnamon too, yum!

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      5 stars
Cinnamon sounds like a great addition! Makes it even cozier. I think I’ll try that next time.

  115. User avatar colette.yost2013 says:

    4 stars
Not bad, but I’m not sure about the timing. 20 minutes felt short for me—my millet needed closer to 25-30. Once it was tender, it was good.

    1. User avatar denice.kemmer1991 says:

      5 stars
Good point—millet can vary a lot. I’ve had it go from 20 to 30 depending on the brand and how old the grains are. If yours needed 25–30, I’d just keep simmering until it’s truly tender.

    2. User avatar samantha.reichert47 says:

      4 stars
20 min is probably fine if you keep it on super low and stir like every few mins… but I guess if it’s old millet, it takes longer. Next time I’ll add 5-10 min and check.

  116. 2 stars
I don’t have honey, so I used maple syrup. Same idea, but I felt like the flavor got a little too strong. Next time I’ll go lighter.

  117. User avatar retta.kovacek78 says:

    4 stars
Okay but millet porridge sounds weird—like bird food? 😅 Surprisingly, it wasn’t bad at all. Texture is nice once it thickens.

  118. User avatar dave.batz96 says:

    1 star
I thought millet was for birds? Why are we eating it?

  119. 1 star
Porridge? Yuck. Just used it to feed my homing pigeons.

    1. 4 stars
Porridge can be really good if you make it right! You should give it a try before you discount it. Maybe add some flavors? Just a thought!

  120. 4 stars
The instructions are simple and I appreciate that. Mine thickened well, but I added the fruits right at the end so they didn’t get too soft.

  121. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    5 stars
This came out so cozy and thick. I used milk instead of water and it tasted way more creamy—perfect comfort breakfast.

  122. User avatar suanne.greenfelder24 says:

    4 stars
Yum!! Added cinnamon and raisins for extra flavor. Will definitely make again!

  123. 4 stars
Solid recipe! The 20 minutes worked for me, though I had to stir a bit more toward the end to avoid sticking. Honey + berries is a great combo.

  124. User avatar alene.cronin2025 says:

    3 stars
Wait… millet needs only 20 minutes? I always thought grains take forever. Mine was kinda chewy at first, but after another 5-10 minutes it worked.

    1. 5 stars
Right? I was skeptical too. Millet feels like it *should* take forever, but 20 minutes is plenty once it’s simmering steadily. Chewiness at first makes sense—glad yours loosened up after the extra time!

    2. User avatar wei.wintheiser1973 says:

      3 stars
Idk about 20 minutes… mine took longer like 30+ because I think I didn’t rinse enough. Also I used milk and it got weirdly thick fast. Still tasty though.

  125. User avatar alton.oconnell33 says:

    2 stars
I don’t even know what millet is! Can I use rice instead? 🤔

  126. User avatar otha.hoeger57 says:

    3 stars
Honey is too sweet for me. Would it taste okay without it? Just wondering.

    1. 5 stars
You can totally skip the honey! The fruits might add enough sweetness for you.

  127. User avatar kathlyn.rohan1964 says:

    5 stars
Honestly this was easy and cheap. Kids didn’t complain (which is rare). Slightly sticky from the honey but good.

  128. User avatar myrtle.hansen41 says:

    3 stars
I think I boiled it too long. Was kinda mushy. 🤷‍♂️ Next time will check it sooner.

  129. User avatar todd.oberbrunner87 says:

Millet? I thought we were supposed to be eating trendy stuff like chia seed pudding now. Whatever.

  130. 5 stars
    So good. 10/10

  131. User avatar maurice.hilpert32 says:

    5 stars
Tried this for breakfast and it came out super comforting. The honey + berries combo is honestly perfect. I used milk instead of water and it was creamier, like you said.

  132. 4 stars
I thought millet was for birds! But this looks okay. Gonna give it a shot.

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      5 stars
Millet is actually really nutritious! Can’t wait to see how it turns out for you!

    2. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      2 stars
I dunno, sounds kind of weird to me. But hey, I guess I’ll just stick to oats!

  133. User avatar wynona.cole34 says:

    5 stars
This porridge was surprisingly delicious! I love how creamy it turned out with milk. Will definitely make again.

  134. User avatar roy.sawayn70 says:

    2 stars
Too plain for my taste. I felt like it needed something more… maybe nuts? I don’t know.

  135. User avatar verlie.glover says:

    2 stars
Millet is kinda… weird, not gonna lie. I followed the steps but it didn’t taste like “real” oatmeal to me. Maybe I just didn’t rinse enough?

  136. 4 stars
Is millet gluten free? some people told me it is but I guess I need to check. Can’t have gluten.

  137. 4 stars
Easy recipe but I added coconut milk instead of water, tastes so good!

    1. 5 stars
Coconut milk sounds delicious! I never would have thought of that. I’ll try it next time!

    2. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

      2 stars
I dunno, coconut milk? Seems kinda weird for porridge. Water’s good enough.

  138. User avatar raymundo.gulgowski says:

    5 stars
Wow! Who knew millet could be so good?? I added some cinnamon and my kids ate it all! ❤️

  139. User avatar rudolf.smith1958 says:

    4 stars
Simple ingredients but so comforting. I added apples and cinnamon and yum! 🍏👌

  140. User avatar lesley.schamberger2018 says:

I’m not a big fan of honey in porridge (too sticky). I tried maple syrup instead—worked great. Would recommend with any sweetener you like.

    1. User avatar Mr. Roy Bergstrom says:

      5 stars
Good call on the maple syrup—honey can definitely get sticky. I’ve used brown sugar + a splash of milk sometimes and it’s pretty similar. Thanks for the tip!

  141. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
Millet porridge?? I don’t know, sounds like something you’d make in a survival situation. Also 1/2 cup fruits seems random—would’ve liked nuts or yogurt instead.

  142. User avatar irvin.kulas says:

    5 stars
Tried this for breakfast and it turned out surprisingly creamy for millet. The 20 minutes was spot on—might even add a little more milk next time. Thanks!

  143. 3 stars
I followed it exactly but it came out thicker than I expected. Maybe my stove runs hot? Still edible though, just needed a splash of water.

  144. 5 stars
Delicious! Also, my kids loved it with strawberries on top! ❤️

  145. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

    5 stars
Yesss! Comfort food vibes. I used milk instead of water and it came out so smooth. My kid actually asked for seconds.

    1. User avatar omega.lebsack97 says:

      5 stars
Love this! Millet porridge with milk sounds seriously cozy—glad it turned out smooth and that your kid wanted seconds 😄

  146. User avatar Chaas Qeta says:

    2 stars
Meh, it was just okay. I prefer oatmeal. My husband didnt like it at all.

  147. 1 star
Not good. the texture was weird and I didn’t like the taste at all… sorry.

    1. User avatar gerald.brown says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear you didn’t like it! Maybe you could try adding more fruits or spices next time? That might help with the taste.

  148. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    4 stars
Tastes healthy, but I had to simmer closer to 30 minutes to get it tender. Still good though—especially with berries.

  149. User avatar katherin.terry1973 says:

    4 stars
Good base recipe! I used milk instead of water like it suggests and it was richer. Next time I’ll add a pinch more salt because it tasted a little flat at first.

  150. User avatar robert.schmidt11 says:

    4 stars
Simple and actually worked on the first try. I used milk instead of water like the recipe says and it was creamier, but I had to stir a little more so it didn’t stick.

  151. 5 stars
Comforting and simple. The porridge thickened really nicely after simmering—mine needed like 23 minutes but that’s fine. Honey + berries is a great combo.

  152. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

    5 stars
Tried this for breakfast and it turned out thick and cozy. The honey at the end made a big difference—would definitely do again with berries.

  153. User avatar filomena.rempel1957 says:

    5 stars
I tried this recipe and it was super easy! My kids loved it too. Thanks!

  154. User avatar lourie.schultz2018 says:

Millet? Never heard of it. I used rice instead and it was fine. Not sure if I’ll try the millet after this.

    1. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      4 stars
I get it! Rice is super easy and familiar. Millet can be a bit odd for some, but you might be surprised how good it is! Just give it a try sometime. Not dissing your rice choice, though!

  155. User avatar kassandra.reynolds3 says:

    5 stars
Millet is underrated. The honey at the end is key—otherwise it’s pretty plain. Nice texture once it thickened.

    1. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—millet gets overlooked. I tried it without the honey once and it really was kind of blah. Once it thickened though, the texture was great.

  156. 4 stars
Solid idea, but my millet took longer than 20 minutes to get tender. I had to keep it simmering and add a splash more water. Still tasty though!

  157. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, it tasted kinda bland before I added more honey and a pinch of cinnamon. Next time I’ll season it a bit better, but it’s easy and healthy.

  158. User avatar bernie.bailey77 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 20 minutes wasn’t enough for my batch. I had to simmer like 30 minutes until it stopped tasting crunchy. Also, I used too much honey lol.

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      5 stars
Yeah, millet can be stubborn—20 minutes depends a lot on the brand and how old it is. I usually do closer to 25–35. Good call on simmering longer!

    2. User avatar niesha.abshire66 says:

      5 stars
Mine takes about 30 too. I’d add a splash more water/milk if it’s getting thick before it’s tender. Also stirring more often helps.

  159. User avatar roxane.okuneva90 says:

    4 stars
1/2 cup fruits optional?? I doubled it and now it’s basically dessert 😅 Still, the recipe is solid.

    1. 5 stars
Lol yeah, if you double the fruits it turns into legit dessert 😄 But honestly that sounds amazing—did you notice the porridge got thicker or more like a pudding?

  160. User avatar elmer.ankunding1 says:

    4 stars
Mine took closer to 25 minutes, but the texture was still great. I added chopped apple too and it tasted like a healthier oatmeal.
