Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta

November 4, 2024

Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta is a light, flavorful, and easy-to-make dish that combines succulent shrimp with a tangy lemon-garlic sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. This recipe is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a special meal when you want something that’s both fresh and satisfying. The zesty lemon and savory garlic bring out the natural sweetness of the shrimp, while the pasta soaks up all the delicious flavors in the sauce.

The key to this dish is the garlic butter sauce. It starts with a mixture of butter and olive oil, sautéed with garlic until golden and fragrant. Fresh lemon juice and zest are added to create a bright, citrusy burst that perfectly complements the richness of the shrimp. A touch of white wine (or chicken broth) adds depth to the sauce, while red pepper flakes bring just a hint of heat. Once the shrimp are cooked through, the sauce is tossed with the pasta, creating a creamy, flavorful coating for each bite.

The shrimp should be sautéed quickly to retain their tender, juicy texture. They cook in just a few minutes, making this dish come together in under 30 minutes. The pasta can be anything from spaghetti to linguine, fettuccine, or angel hair – whatever you prefer. The noodles absorb the sauce, making every bite rich and flavorful.

Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta is also easy to customize. You can add vegetables like spinach, cherry tomatoes, or asparagus to enhance the dish and add color. For extra creaminess, a dollop of cream cheese or a splash of heavy cream can be added to the sauce. Top with freshly grated parmesan and chopped parsley for an extra layer of flavor and freshness.

This dish is perfect for a light yet filling meal that feels indulgent without being overly heavy. The balance of fresh lemon, savory garlic, and tender shrimp makes it a favorite that’s both comforting and refreshing.

Lemon + garlic = 🥰 Love it!! But how much salt to use? I like em salty!

  2. 5 stars
This was delicious! The shrimp turned out perfectly cooked.

  3. 4 stars
Lemon and shrimp?? Sounds weird at first but it really worked! Surprising!

  4. User avatar stan.wuckert62 says:

    4 stars
Good, but my shrimp overcooked a tiny bit (3-4 min was probably too long for mine). Next time I’ll pull them sooner and it should be even better.

  5. 2 stars
I don’t get why people like lemon with shrimp. It was okay, but kinda sour to me. Maybe I juiced a huge lemon??

    1. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      3 stars
Maybe you needed less juice and more butter? Lemon + shrimp sounds right to me though—like it cuts the richness. Also did you zest too? That can make it extra punchy.

    2. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      4 stars
Totally get it—lemon can be *sharp* with shrimp if you use a big one. I usually start with like half the juice and add more after tasting. Your huge lemon theory might be correct 😅

  6. User avatar darell.wilkinson says:

    3 stars
I used penne instead of spaghetti and it turned out fine. Not a big deal. Same taste I guess.

    1. User avatar bailey.hartmann says:

      3 stars
I don’t see the point of using different pasta! But hey, if you liked it, that’s what matters! 🤷‍♂️

  7. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

    3 stars
Question: do you use fresh lemon juice only? I used bottled and it tasted a little flat, but the parsley saved it.

    1. User avatar bradford.nikolaus says:

      4 stars
I usually do use fresh lemon juice, yeah. Bottled can work, but it often tastes a bit flatter—more sour but less “bright,” if that makes sense. If you’re using bottled, I’d add a touch more zest (or even a little extra juice) and don’t be shy with salt to help it pop.

  8. 2 stars
This is basically garlic shrimp with pasta—nice, but where’s the creaminess? If you like creamy sauces you might be disappointed.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah I see what you mean. It’s more bright and zesty than creamy—no cream or cheese in the recipe at all. Still really tasty, just not “creamy pasta” vibes.

    2. User avatar fred.collins says:

      3 stars
Not gonna lie, I was expecting cream too 😅 Maybe add a splash of heavy cream or some cream cheese at the end? Otherwise it’s more like lemon garlic shrimp with pasta (which is still good).

  9. 5 stars
My kids actually ate it! That’s a win for me.

  10. 4 stars
Pretty good—though I think it needs a little more salt. Next time I’ll add red pepper flakes too for some kick.

    1. User avatar sean.johnson89 says:

      5 stars
Thanks! I agree—lemon can make it taste like it needs just a bit more salt. Red pepper flakes are a great idea too. 🙂

    2. User avatar duncan.zemlak37 says:

      3 stars
I’m not sure about the salt thing—mine was good without much salt. But red pepper flakes? That I can do. Also I kinda forgot to zest it last time lol and it was still decent.

  11. User avatar maynard.schimmel93 says:

    3 stars
Shrimp overcooked on my side 😭 I think my pan ran hotter than the instructions. Maybe 2-3 min would be safer. Flavor was still good.

  12. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
Meh. Tastes like lemon garlic butter with noodles. Not bad, just not mind-blowing. Needs more seasoning maybe, like chili flakes.

I don’t get the hype. Shrimp cooked fast, sure, but the whole thing felt too sour for my taste—even with less lemon. Could be just me.

  19. User avatar gertrudis.lang17 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—so bright and garlicky. The lemon zest really makes it pop. I used linguine and it worked perfectly.

Lol, who really needs more garlic? It’s already pretty garlicky if you ask me. But enjoy your food!

  22. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    5 stars
    Yumm!! 🍝

  23. 2 stars
I tried this but my sauce didn’t really coat the pasta—more like everything was separate. Maybe I needed more lemon or olive oil?

  24. User avatar benita.franecki says:

    5 stars
This is the kind of recipe that feels fancy but is actually easy. I used linguine and it worked great. Lemon zest is a must.

  25. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, I followed the recipe but it tasted kinda bland. Maybe I need more garlic?

  26. User avatar Feral Falmer says:

    1 star
I accidentally added too much salt and it was super salty. Shoulda paid more attention.

    1. User avatar Leto Atreides says:

      3 stars
Aww man, salty pasta sounds nasty! I usually just add a pinch and taste as I go, not that hard! 🤷‍♂️😅

    2. User avatar henry.kuvalis74 says:

      4 stars
Ah, bummer! Salt can really ruin a dish. Next time, maybe try measuring it out carefully? 🍋

  27. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I used a little extra pepper because I like kick. Next time I’ll maybe add a splash of pasta water to make it a touch more saucy.

  28. 3 stars
Not sure about the timing—3-4 minutes felt fast. I cook shrimp differently maybe, because mine barely changed color but were still done somehow?

  29. User avatar kanesha.fahey2003 says:

    3 stars
I think 3-4 minutes is too short for all shrimp sizes—mine were larger and needed longer. Still ended up good though.

  30. 5 stars
Super tasty! The lemon really brightened everything and the garlic flavor stayed strong without being harsh. I used linguine and it still worked perfectly.

  31. 5 stars
Made this for dinner and everyone went back for seconds. I added a pinch of chili flakes too—highly recommend if you like a little heat.

  32. User avatar Orange Dartwing says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—super bright and fresh. The lemon + garlic combo is the real MVP, and the shrimp cooked up perfectly in that 3-4 minute window for me.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! Same here—lemon + garlic is SUCH a combo. Glad your shrimp hit that 3–4 min window too 👏

    2. User avatar frederick.rowe91 says:

      4 stars
I tried it but my garlic kinda burned, so next time I’ll lower the heat. Still tasted good though. Also I had to add a splash of pasta water to make it cling.

  33. User avatar buddy.lebsack1988 says:

    5 stars
Made this for dinner tonight—so fresh and bright. The lemon zest really pops, and the garlic doesn’t overpower. Would definitely do again!

  34. User avatar Howie Doohan says:

    3 stars
Taste was okay, but the shrimp took longer to cook than you said. Not my favorite.

  35. User avatar emerald.wuckert24 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I expected more sauce. It was tasty, just kind of dry on my end. I’ll try adding butter or more olive oil next time.

  36. 4 stars
Simple and tasty. I was worried the shrimp would get rubbery, but 3 minutes was spot on. Next time I’ll add a pinch of red pepper flakes.

  37. User avatar jamaal.stroman2020 says:

    4 stars
Not bad. But 100 grams pasta for 200 grams shrimp feels random—too shrimp heavy for me. I doubled the pasta and it balanced out.

  38. User avatar ulysses.kemmer38 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—super bright and fast. The lemon zest really brings it to life. I added a tiny pinch of chili flakes and it was perfect.

    1. User avatar quincy.jast says:

      5 stars
Love hearing that! The lemon zest is definitely the move—glad it came out bright. A pinch of chili flakes sounds like a great upgrade too 😄

  39. User avatar vince.weimann54 says:

    3 stars
I accedently used shrimp with the shell on 🌊. Messy, but tasted good!

  40. User avatar Falmer Archer says:

    3 stars
I’m not a fan of lemon in pasta. It was too sour for my taste.

  41. User avatar werner.adams says:

    4 stars
Honestly didn’t think lemon would work with shrimp pasta but it was actually really good. My picky roommate ate seconds.

    1. User avatar maynard.jacobi21 says:

      3 stars
Wait… shrimp with lemon? I mean it works I guess 😅 I used a bit more garlic (like 6 cloves) and I think I undercooked the shrimp because mine were rubbery. Next time I’ll do the 3-4 minutes like the recipe says. Still pretty tasty though.

    2. 5 stars
Honestly same—lemon + shrimp pasta sounded weird to me, but the garlic and zest combo is legit. I followed it pretty much exactly and it tasted bright, not sour. Also parsley on top is a must.

  42. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

    2 stars
I dunno, my shrimp were rubbery. Maybe I cooked them too long?

  43. User avatar jeanett.carter67 says:

    4 stars
I used chicken instead of shrimp, was still yummy! 😁

  44. 1 star
Idk… I think I burned the garlic. The whole pan smelled bitter. I guess I’ll try again slower.

  45. 5 stars
Made this tonight—so bright and flavorful. The lemon + garlic combo is perfect, and the shrimp cooks up fast. I added a tiny pinch of red pepper flakes too. 10/10.

    1. User avatar markus.klocko78 says:

      5 stars
Love this! The lemon-garlic combo is the best—will try with the pinch of red pepper flakes next time 😄

  46. User avatar idella.kunde53 says:

    4 stars
Tastes great, but I kinda messed up the lemon—maybe I zested too much. Still, the pasta absorbed the flavor really well.

  47. 4 stars
I followed the recipe exactly, and honestly it tasted kinda flat until I added more lemon zest and pepper. After that it was much better.

  48. User avatar yessenia.hermiston19 says:

    3 stars
I followed it closely, but my garlic got a bit too brown. Still tasty, just not as “garlicky” if you know what I mean. Cooking time matters!

  49. User avatar theo.upton21 says:

    4 stars
Honestly I don’t get the hype about lemon with seafood—seems too acidic. But I tried it anyway… and yeah, it was better than I expected.

  50. User avatar lillian.kuphal5 says:

    4 stars
The instructions are simple which I love. I was out of parsley so I used cilantro (don’t judge). Still good!

    1. User avatar Barrie Carroll DVM says:

      3 stars
I mean… parsley is kinda required? 😅 But if it still tastes good then fair. How much cilantro did you use?

    2. User avatar richie.homenick37 says:

      5 stars
No judgment at all—cilantro works great with lemon and garlic. I’ll try that next time.

  51. User avatar alvaro.feeney says:

    3 stars
Honestly, I don’t get the hype. It’s just garlic, lemon, and shrimp. Good, sure… but nothing wow. Also my garlic burned a little even though I watched it.

  52. User avatar damon.gottlieb says:

    5 stars
Wow! 10/10 would eat again. Quick weeknight dinner and not bland at all. Parsley at the end is the move.

  53. 4 stars
    Looks easy. Will try tomorrow.

    1. User avatar hunter.okuneva8 says:

      5 stars
Awesome—let us know how it goes! Quick tip: don’t overcook the shrimp or they’ll get rubbery.

  54. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps but my shrimp got a little rubbery. Maybe I left them too long—next time I’ll pull them as soon as they curl.

  55. User avatar Mrs. Odilia Rutherford says:

    5 stars
This was so delicious! I loved the fresh lemon flavor. Definitely making again!

  56. 5 stars
Wow. I didn’t think lemon and garlic could be that good together with pasta, but it is. Restaurant vibes at home!

    1. User avatar Mrs. Elvin Langworth says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—lemon + garlic is like the perfect bright combo. I added extra zest and it tasted even more “restaurant” 🔥

    2. User avatar donte.hermann86 says:

      3 stars
I tried this but mine turned kinda sour 😅 maybe I juiced too much lemon or the garlic burned. Next time I’ll be more careful with the heat.

  57. User avatar eldon.jacobson says:

    4 stars
I like shrimp, but I always worry about overcooking. 3-4 minutes worked for me—still juicy. Next time I’ll use a bit more garlic.

  58. User avatar glenna.daniel91 says:

    3 stars
I followed it, but mine tasted a little too acidic. Maybe my lemon was extra tart—could use more salt or a splash of pasta water.

  59. User avatar marlen.rath2004 says:

    1 star
Why do people like shrimps? They give me the heebie-jeebies. Pass!

  60. User avatar wanda.schinner says:

    3 stars
Not bad but I think 3-4 minutes was too long—my shrimp got a bit rubbery. Also wish the seasoning instructions were clearer (like when exactly to add salt).

  61. User avatar darin.rodriguez says:

    3 stars
The measurements are kinda confusing. Like “1 whole lemon juiced and zested” — my lemon made waaaay more juice than I thought. Still turned out okay though, just tangier.

    1. User avatar Johnny Kris says:

      3 stars
I think you should’ve used less lemon if it was tangier… 1 whole lemon is wild sometimes 😅 Next time try 1/2 lemon, and add the rest a little at a time. But hey at least the shrimp pasta didn’t get ruined.

    2. 5 stars
Totally get that—lemons are so unpredictable. I’ve started using the “juice + zest from 1 lemon” only as a starting point, then I taste and adjust with a splash of extra lemon if it needs more zing.

  62. User avatar Bipin and Blossom's son says:

    4 stars
Not bad at all! I used dried parsley because that’s what I had and it was still decent. Would make again for sure.

  63. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was bright and super satisfying. The lemon + garlic combo really pops, and the shrimp cooked perfectly in about 3 minutes for me.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! That lemon-garlic pop is exactly what makes it. I also did the shrimp closer to 3 min and it came out juicy instead of rubbery.

    2. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

      3 stars
Glad you liked it—though I’m skeptical on “3 minutes.” My shrimp always takes like 8-10 😅. Still, the lemon + garlic sounds amazing. Might try smaller shrimp or crank the heat.

  64. User avatar lenard.miller94 says:

    3 stars
The flavor is good, but my pasta got a little dry. Maybe my shrimp released more liquid than expected? I might add a splash of pasta water next time.

  65. User avatar millicent.price64 says:

    5 stars
So easy my 10-year-old made it! Thank u for the great recipe!

Simple and quick! Perfect for a weeknight dinner. My husband loved it!

  67. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

1/4 cup parsley is kinda much? I used half and it was still fine. Also i forgot zest and it was still good lol.

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      4 stars
Wait you forgot the zest and it was still good?? 😂 I always add the zest though because it makes it taste “more lemony”…. but maybe garlic + juice covered it. Kinda jealous lol.

    2. 5 stars
I actually think 1/4 cup parsley is perfect—fresh, not overpowering. If you used half and it still worked, you’re totally good!

  68. User avatar jerry.franecki2011 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I did run out of parsley so I used dried oregano and it was still okay, but not as “restaurant-y” as I expected.

  69. User avatar bobby.rutherford37 says:

    4 stars
The instructions are clear and the timing for shrimp was spot on. I was worried the shrimp would get rubbery but it didn’t.

    1. User avatar darryl.hane says:

      5 stars
Same! I was also nervous about rubbery shrimp, but 3–4 minutes worked perfectly for me too. The lemon + garlic combo is so bright.

  70. User avatar Isadore Bell says:

    4 stars
Really good! I used linguine and it held the sauce nicely. Next time I’ll use a bit more lemon zest for extra punch.

  71. User avatar genie.herzog56 says:

    5 stars
Wow. I added a splash of pasta water and it turned super glossy. Also used extra garlic (because why not) and it was amazing.

  72. User avatar Arianna Hettinger says:

    5 stars
Wow! Five stars. I can smell it from the other room 😄

    1. User avatar alexis.deckow79 says:

      5 stars
Right?! The lemon-garlic combo is so loud in the best way 😄 Thanks for the 5 stars!

  73. User avatar Arwen Evenstar says:

    4 stars
Shrimp turned out great, but I accidentally zested before juicing and got lemon everywhere lol. Flavor was still on point.

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      3 stars
Wait you zest before juicing? That seems messy but okay. Next time do it over the bowl maybe. Also 1 whole lemon for 200g shrimp seems a little low? Still looks good though.

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      5 stars
Happens to the best of us 😄 Lemon everywhere is like—extra zest for the whole kitchen. Glad the flavor still hit!

  74. User avatar Random Dent says:

    3 stars
This is basic. Like, garlic + lemon + shrimp… okay. Still tasty though. I can’t say it’s anything wow.

  75. User avatar Liet-Kynes says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I expected more sauce. With only olive oil and lemon, it came out a bit dry/“clingy” on the noodles. Maybe add a splash of pasta water?

    1. User avatar minerva.littel83 says:

      5 stars
Yeah I totally get that—this one really benefits from a little pasta water. I usually add 1–2 splashes right when I toss the noodles, and it makes the sauce clingy (in a good way) instead of dry. Also I sometimes add a tiny extra drizzle of olive oil if the pasta seems thirsty. Great suggestion!
