I’m skeptical about flipping omelettes in a non-stick pan… like, doesn’t everything just stick? Mine partially tore, but the flavors saved it. Would make again with more patience.

I used to think the same thing! My first couple attempts tore too, but I found the trick is keeping the heat lower and letting the edges set fully before the flip. Still, this combo sounds so good—soy + mirin chicken with mushrooms is a win.

    2. User avatar rigoberto.durgan says:

      3 stars
Idk, flipping it in non-stick still seems risky 😅 If mine tore, I’d just scramble and call it a day. Also 3-4 minutes seems kinda short? Maybe my pan runs hot. Either way, glad it tasted good.

  2. User avatar claudie.feest says:

    4 stars
I tried flipping and it kinda folded lol. Still tasted great though—my cat now expects it every Sunday.

  3. 5 stars
This came out super flavorful. The mirin + soy combo is such a good touch, and the omelette flipped pretty cleanly for me. I added a little extra pepper and it was chef’s kiss.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! I love that mirin + soy combo—makes everything taste kinda restaurant-y. Mine usually flips a little messy, but the flavor still slaps.

    2. User avatar trey.langosh40 says:

      3 stars
I might be doing it wrong but I added too much mirin once and it got sweet… still ate it tho 😅 Also, my omelette stuck even with non-stick, so I wonder if medium heat was too high.

  4. 5 stars
Wow, this is nothing like the omelettes I make, but I like it! New favorite!

  5. User avatar basementDweller says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the mirin—mine was sweet and it overpowered the chicken a bit. Still edible though, just tweak to taste.

  6. 1 star
Chicken and mushrooms, together? Really? Who does that. Not for me!

  7. User avatar Cornelia Rodriguez says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I don’t get the hype. It was pretty bland. Needs spices or something.

  8. User avatar Weldon Jenkins says:

    1 star
Chickens don’t belong in omelettes?? Just eggs, that’s the rule! Not impressed.

  9. User avatar felisa.wintheiser23 says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added some chives I had and it was so good! Will make again!

  10. User avatar adam.lang1962 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good for a weeknight. I used regular mushrooms and it still tasted great. Next time I’ll slice the chicken thinner because mine took a touch longer.

    1. 5 stars
Nice! I love that it’s flexible—regular mushrooms should work just fine. Thin-slicing the chicken is probably the key too; 5 minutes can be a little tight depending on thickness.

  11. 1 star
Omelette? More like overcooked scrambled eggs. No offense! 😬

  12. 3 stars
I found it to be too salty with the soy sauce. Maybe less next time?

    1. User avatar Amanda B. Reckonwith says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! I decided to skip the soy sauce next time, and it turned out great!

    2. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      2 stars
Less soy sauce? But that’s the best part! Maybe you just used too much salt before??

  13. User avatar danyelle.reinger84 says:

    4 stars
Easy to make! But my omelette fell apart when I tried to flip it. Still tasted good tho!

  14. User avatar nichole.macejkovic79 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know what mirin is… can I just use regular wine? 🤔

  15. User avatar mattie.schinner35 says:

    5 stars
Cooked this for breakfast today, absolutely fantastic! So filling and tasty.

  16. User avatar freida.hettinger says:

    1 star
Omelette? I just scrambled everything together… wasn’t a fan of the texture.

  17. 1 star
Why mirin? Is that really necessary? I just used extra soy sauce.

    1. User avatar loriann.hackett33 says:

      5 stars
Mirin adds a unique sweetness that soy sauce can’t replicate. It balances flavors, trust me!

  18. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    3 stars
It was alright, but I think I needed to add more soy sauce. Also, my eggs turned out a bit runny.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! A bit more soy sauce can really enhance the flavor. And runny eggs can be tricky—maybe just cook them a little longer next time!

  19. User avatar barton.hayes says:

    2 stars
I tried making this but ended up burning the eggs… not my day. 😩

  20. User avatar chandra.goyette says:

    2 stars
Too much work for me for an omelette. Also 8 ounces is like… half a pack? Idk. It’s fine, but I wouldn’t make it again.

  21. User avatar taylor.quigley41 says:

    3 stars
The flavors were solid, but it felt a little salty with regular soy sauce. Also my chicken took longer than 5 minutes because the slices were thicker.

  22. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    4 stars
Too much chicken for my liking. I think I’ll put less next time or try with tofu instead.

  23. User avatar I. M. Boring says:

    4 stars
I love Japanese-ish dishes like this. The timing was fairly easy to manage—mushrooms cooked down nicely and the eggs set cleanly for me.

  24. 4 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but my omelette tore when I flipped it. Still tasted amazing though. Next time I’ll use a larger pan and cook a touch longer to set it more.

    1. 4 stars
I think you should just not flip it. Omelettes tear because the eggs aren’t fully cooked, and non-stick or not they still stick. Also 3-4 minutes seems too short—try like 8 minutes. I’d try lower heat too.

    2. User avatar shena.doyle says:

      5 stars
Ahh that flip moment is always terrifying 😅 Glad it still tasted amazing though. A bigger pan would definitely help so it doesn’t fold on itself—also cooking a bit longer before flipping usually makes it more set.

  25. User avatar Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard says:

    2 stars
    Just okay.

    1. 3 stars
Just okay? I felt the same. Needed more spice or something.

    2. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      5 stars
I actually loved this recipe! The flavors were amazing. 💖

  26. User avatar mario.oconner2017 says:

    5 stars
This was surprisingly comforting—soy + mirin really makes the chicken and mushrooms taste restaurant-level. The flipping part took me a couple tries but it was worth it!

  27. User avatar erick.schuster70 says:

    3 stars
I didn’t have mirin so I used a splash of honey + rice vinegar. It worked… kind of. Texture was fine, but the taste was different from what I expected.

    1. 4 stars
Honestly that makes sense—mirin’s sweetness and mild acidity are pretty specific. Honey + rice vinegar can get you close on balance, but it’ll definitely taste “off” sometimes. Next time I’d try less vinegar or add a tiny pinch of sugar to mimic mirin more closely.

  28. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious! The flavors are on point with the soy sauce and mirin. Will definitely make it again!

    1. User avatar Mrs. Charissa Rowe says:

      5 stars
Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to try this out. 😊

  29. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—super comforting. The chicken+mushrooms combo is great, and flipping the omelette actually worked for me (rare!). Tastes like something I’d order at a little Japanese café.

  30. 5 stars
Made this tonight—so savory and comforting. The mirin really elevates it. I flipped mine a little messy but it tasted perfect.

  31. User avatar nery.ratke13 says:

    4 stars
I messed up step 9 and poured the eggs too quickly—so it became more like a scramble. Still tasted amazing, just not the pretty wedge situation.

  32. 3 stars
This was alright, but honestly, I didn’t really taste much. Maybe more soy sauce next time? 3/5.

  33. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    3 stars
The instructions are clear, but the timing for flipping seems too optimistic. I don’t have the confidence for that step 😂

  34. User avatar douglass.little12 says:

    5 stars
This is the best omelette I’ve ever made! The chicken and mushrooms give it such a nice flavor. Definitely a keeper! 😊

  35. User avatar isadora.hand says:

    4 stars
This feels kinda fancy for something that’s basically eggs and leftovers… but honestly? It’s good. 10/10 for effort.

  36. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    2 stars
meh, mine came out salty and the mushrooms got watery. Probably user error? But I won’t rush to repeat.

  37. User avatar jamison.kris says:

    5 stars
This was delicious! The combo of chicken and mushrooms is a winner. Will definitely make it again! 😋

  38. 5 stars
This is my new favorite breakfast! So delicious and easy to make. 😋

  39. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    5 stars
This turned out way better than I expected—savory, a little sweet from the mirin, and the omelette texture was spot on. The flip took a couple tries but totally worth it.

  40. User avatar Shaddam Corrino IV says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The flavors are so rich and tasty. Definitely a keeper!

    1. User avatar thaddeus.brakus says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This omelette is a hit at my house. Perfect for breakfast or dinner!

  41. User avatar neville.bins31 says:

    4 stars
Yummm! So good for dinner too! I added bell peppers and it turned out great.

    1. User avatar timothy.fay73 says:

      5 stars
Bell peppers were a good choice! I always love adding my own twist to recipes.

    2. 2 stars
I dunno, bell peppers sounds weird for an omelette. Isn’t that more for salads?

  42. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    3 stars
Is mirin necessary? Can I just use sugar? Asking for a friend.

  43. 5 stars
The mirin is the secret. I used a splash of cooking mirin and it definitely elevated it. Great weeknight meal.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—mirin makes it taste more “Japanese” and not just salty soy. I’ve done the same and it really levels it up for a quick weeknight meal.

  44. User avatar kiana.schultz57 says:

    4 stars
    Yummy!

  45. User avatar sheilah.heathcote78 says:

    4 stars
Made this for brunch and my family loved it! I added some cheese too. Yummy! 🧀

    1. User avatar marcus.leuschke2024 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love adding cheese to everything too. What kind did you use?

  46. User avatar joey.damore1989 says:

    5 stars
This turned out so tasty and savory—didn’t expect the mirin + soy combo to make it feel so “restaurant.” I used button mushrooms and it was still great.

  47. User avatar maricela.turcotte says:

    3 stars
Could use more veggies. Only mushrooms and green onions feels a bit bare. I added some spinach at the end and it balanced it nicely.

    1. User avatar amos.doyle says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—only mushrooms and green onions can feel a little sparse. Spinach is a great add at the end so it doesn’t turn watery.

  48. User avatar chin.smitham says:

    3 stars
Not a fan of mirin. Can I just use more soy sauce instead?

    1. User avatar Kuhn Sidajj says:

      4 stars
Yeah, you can totally use more soy sauce. Just remember it’ll be saltier!

  49. User avatar Tahno O'ah says:

    5 stars
Yum! My kids loved it! They want it for breakfast every day now. Very easy to make. 5 stars!

  50. 4 stars
Followed the steps pretty much exactly. My omelette didn’t look as pretty as the picture, but the flavor was great and the chicken stayed juicy. Will make again.

  51. User avatar valentine.zieme51 says:

    2 stars
I don’t understand why it’s called a Japanese omelette. Seems pretty normal to me. Just eggs and chicken.

    1. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

      4 stars
It’s called a Japanese omelette ’cause of the soy sauce and mirin! Adds a special twist. 😋

  52. User avatar eveline.carter1978 says:

    5 stars
Tried this tonight—so comforting! The mirin + soy combo is legit and the flip worked (barely). Would make again.

  53. User avatar Gonzalo Batz says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about flipping an omelette that’s topped like that. Mine broke apart, but honestly the flavor was too good to care. Maybe cook it slightly longer first?

  54. User avatar garfield.mann says:

    5 stars
I like mushrooms, so this was a win. The texture with the set eggs is perfect. Green onions make it pop.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! The egg set with mushrooms is exactly the vibe I look for. I’ve never tried mirin in it though—sounds like it really pulls everything together.

  55. User avatar lucky777 says:

    2 stars
Bad math—8 oz mushrooms isn’t enough for 4 eggs, at least not in my house. I added more mushrooms and it improved a lot. Would recommend upping it.

  56. User avatar melinda.boehm says:

    5 stars
So simple! My kids loved it. Just add more chicken for protein!

  57. User avatar dewayne.buckridge16 says:

    4 stars
I thought japan was all sushi! Who knew omelettes could be like this? Pretty good, I guess. 4.

  58. 2 stars
What even is mirin? Used white wine instead and it turned out fine. 🤷‍♂️

  59. User avatar andre.daugherty says:

    5 stars
5/5—this recipe is my new comfort food. The texture was perfect: tender mushrooms, juicy chicken, and the eggs were silky. Will definitely repeat.

  60. User avatar tristan.marvin86 says:

    4 stars
First time cooking an omelette, and it turned out great! Thanks for the recipe!

    1. User avatar Draugr Deathlord says:

      4 stars
First time? Wow! It’s not that easy for everyone, but it sounds like you nailed it. Did you add anything special?

    2. 5 stars
Congratulations on your first omelette! It’s always a win when it turns out great. 🥳

  61. 5 stars
Yum! I added some cheese and it was great! 😍

    1. 3 stars
Isn’t cheese like totally not Japanese though? 🤔 But hey, whatever floats your boat!

    2. 5 stars
Cheese sounds like a great addition! I bet it made it super creamy! I might try that next time. 🧀

  62. 3 stars
First time makin omelette. Was hard to flip but my family liked it. 3 stars.

  63. 4 stars
Pretty good! I followed the steps but my flip was… not great 😅 Still tasted delicious though. Next time I’ll make the omelette a bit thinner.

  64. 3 stars
I ain’t never heard of an omelette like this before. Sounds fancy, but I’ll just stick to cheese! 🍳

  65. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    1 star
This was awful! My omelette fell apart and tasted so bland. Never making this again.

  66. 3 stars
Mushrooms eh? No thanks. I subbed with spinach, still tasty but not the same! 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar Emelia Stracke says:

      4 stars
Spinach omelette sounds good too! I’m glad it still turned out tasty for you. 🍳

    2. 2 stars
Mushrooms r da best, how can u replace them??? They totally make it! 🙄

  67. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    2 stars
5 minutes for chicken breast seems short. Mine was undercooked at first, so I had to keep it going. After that, the omelette came together.

  68. User avatar Dr. Francesco Nolan says:

    5 stars
Made this for dinner and my family went quiet in a good way. The soy sauce amount is just right—savory without being salty. Would absolutely repeat.

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      3 stars
I tried it too and it was… okay? My eggs stuck a bit even though I used non-stick. Also I think 2 tbsp soy sauce might be too much for my taste—next time I’ll cut it in half.

    2. User avatar prudence.lehner says:

      5 stars
That “quiet in a good way” is the best compliment 😂 I’m glad the soy sauce hit that perfect savory sweet-spot. What kind of mushrooms did you use?

  69. 5 stars
This is such a comfort-food vibe, but still feels a little fancy. The chicken+mushrooms with soy/mirin is spot on. I used extra pepper and it was perfect.

  70. User avatar ellen.sporer2014 says:

    5 stars
So easy and tasty! Japan omelette vibes fr 😅

  71. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

    3 stars
I don’t understand why this needs mirin. Can’t I just use sugar? 🙄

  72. User avatar delia.senger1972 says:

    4 stars
I like that the recipe gives clear timing for each step. Cooked the chicken through nicely and the mushrooms stayed tender. Would make again for sure.

  73. User avatar lesley.lakin says:

    5 stars
    SOOOO good. gonna make again.

  74. 4 stars
I had everything but the mushrooms, so I used spinach instead. Still turned out great! 💚

    1. User avatar johnson.raynor27 says:

      5 stars
That sounds like a tasty substitution! Spinach is a great idea! 🌱

  75. User avatar justa.glover says:

    5 stars
Honestly, omelette + soy sauce sounds weird to me. But I tried it and… wow, it’s actually really good. My partner asked for seconds.

    1. User avatar Feral Falmer says:

      3 stars
Wait… I’m skeptical. Omelette with chicken already feels heavy, and then 2 tbsp soy sauce seems like a lot—won’t it get too salty? But if you got seconds then I guess I’ll try it once. Maybe cut soy down to 1 tbsp next time.

    2. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      5 stars
Same—soy sauce in an omelette sounded odd to me too. But the mirin + soy combo is actually genius. I get that savory-sweet flavor without it being “fishy” or anything. Glad it worked for you!

  76. 5 stars
Mirin + soy is always a win. The mushrooms were the best part. I added a pinch of sugar once and it matched my favorite takeout vibe.

  77. 5 stars
This omelette was amazing! Fluffy and full of flavor. Will definitely make again!

    1. 3 stars
I tried it too! But mine turned out kinda flat. What did I do wrong? 🤔

  78. User avatar gertude.turner says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty closely and it tasted very “Japanese home cooking.” Next time I’ll slice the chicken thinner for faster even cooking. Also, non-stick saved me on the flip.

  79. 2 stars
Not sure what happened, but mine turned out mushy. Maybe I overcooked the eggs? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar danette.predovic says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! Maybe try using just medium heat next time? That might help with the eggs not getting mushy. 🤞

  80. User avatar kera.gottlieb12 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! My omelette took longer than 4 minutes to set, but I think my pan was cooler. Flipping was a little sketchy but it still looked nice.

    1. User avatar fe.gottlieb says:

      5 stars
Thanks! Yeah, non-stick + medium heat can vary a lot—if your pan runs cooler, 4 minutes won’t be enough. Next time try a slightly higher heat or cook until it’s just set but still a bit glossy.

    2. 4 stars
Mine always takes WAY longer too 😅 I think I flip too early—also my pan is probably garbage. But hey, it still tastes good, so I’m not mad. “Sketchy” flipping is basically the vibe 😂

  81. 1 star
Eggs, chicken, mushrooms; that’s too much stuff! Just gimme some eggs! 😂

  82. User avatar lecia.gibson80 says:

    4 stars
I loved the flavors, especially the green onions. Next time I’ll slice the chicken thinner because mine stayed a bit chewy in the middle.

  83. User avatar paulette.will1953 says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the flipping step. I tried and it kinda folded… still delicious though. Maybe “flip” should be “fold” for my skill level 😅

  84. User avatar royce.quigley says:

    4 stars
Love Japanese-inspired meals, but I’d add a pinch of sugar or extra pepper. Also, is it supposed to be “omelette” or “omelet”? Either way, tasty.

  85. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

    2 stars
I don’t get the hype—seems like just chicken + mushrooms + eggs. Nothing wrong, but I wouldn’t make it again over my usual stir-fry.

  86. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    2 stars
Why do I need green onion? Just more work for no reason.

    1. User avatar tera.quitzon says:

      4 stars
Green onions add a nice flavor! They’re not just for looks. It’s worth the effort for that extra taste.

  87. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, the flipping step scares me 😅 Still, it came together. Mine was more like a scramble-omelette combo but still delicious.

  88. User avatar lucio.legros says:

    4 stars
I think the flipping step is kinda scary lol. Mine turned into a scramble situation but honestly it was still delicious. Maybe call it a ‘lazy omelette’ and move on.

    1. User avatar lincoln.bechtelar57 says:

      5 stars
Totally get you 😅 Flipping omelettes is the scariest part. Mine always wants to become scrambled too, but I’ve learned you can still just fold it up and keep going—still tastes amazing. “Lazy omelette” is honestly the perfect name.

  89. User avatar avery.fritsch1996 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I used button mushrooms and added a touch more pepper. Next time I’ll slice the chicken thinner because it took a couple extra minutes to cook through.

Yum! Eggy goodness! Perfect for a lazy weekend.

Tasted great but I used turkey instead of chicken and it worked fine. Just saying.

5 minutes for chicken seems optimistic. Mine was still a bit chewy until I extended it. Also 3-4 minutes for eggs felt short—ended up going longer.

Yum. Simple and it tastes like Japanese comfort food.

The idea is solid, but 3–4 min for the eggs and then flipping—yeah no, my eggs were not cooperating. Ended up more like a scramble. Flavor was good, presentation not so much.

Ugh I feel you 😅 The flipping part is the whole boss fight. I’ve had it turn into scramble too when the heat was even slightly high or the nonstick wasn’t slick enough. Glad the flavor still came through though!

Looks fancy, but I’m just a scrambled eggs person. Anyone else think this is overrated?

Made this for dinner, tasted great but flipped it too soon and it fell apart. Still delicious tho!

My kids were not fans. They prefer plain omelettes. Kids are picky! 😩

Ok but I think 5 minutes for the chicken is a bit optimistic depending on thickness. Mine needed more time, otherwise it was good.

Mine was done in like 5 min too… but I cut the chicken really thin. Maybe u used thicker pieces or higher temp? idk lol

    2. User avatar Random Dent says:

      5 stars
Yeah, 5 minutes can be way too fast if the slices aren’t super thin. I’d say it depends on thickness and skillet heat—glad you still enjoyed it!

  102. 4 stars
Yummmm! 😋 I just want to say, make sure eggs are really fresh for the best taste!

Not bad, but 8 ounces mushrooms felt like a lot for 4 eggs. I ended up with more filling than egg and it was kinda messy. Would halve next time.

Thanks for the feedback! I can see how 8 oz mushrooms could overwhelm the eggs. I’ve had that happen too if I don’t cook off enough moisture—halving them sounds like a solid fix. Did you slice them thick or thin?

Not to be that guy, but omelettes in Japan are usually rolled… this feels more like a pan-frittata situation. Still, it was yummy and easy.

I don’t know, it didn’t turn out that great for me. The eggs got too dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? 2 stars.

Made it for my family and they loved it! Easy and tasty! Good job! 👏

Glad to hear your family enjoyed it! It’s so simple yet delicious, right? 🙌

Who thinks of putting chicken in an omelette? Such a weird combo. I dunno… didn’t love it.

The instructions say 3-4 minutes, but my eggs set way faster than that. Next time I’ll lower the heat. Still delicious, just timing needs adjusting.

  109. 2 stars
Wow, this is a lot of steps for an omelette. Can’t I just scramble everything? 🤔

  110. 5 stars
This turned out so savory and cozy—love the soy + mirin combo. My flip was a little messy but still delicious. Will make again!

Yes! The soy + mirin is such a good combo—mine always smells amazing while cooking. I also get a messy flip sometimes, but cutting it into wedges kind of hides the chaos 😄

I used chicken thigh instead because that’s what I had. Worked fine, and the browning was better. Sauce got super glossy.

Good idea, but my omelette didn’t set right away—I think I had the heat too high. Still tasty though. Next time I’ll lower it and cook the eggs a bit slower.

Totally makes sense—high heat can scramble the outside before the middle sets. I usually keep it closer to medium and give it that 3–4 minute window without rushing the flip. Glad it was still tasty though!

Loved it! I used cremini mushrooms and added a pinch of garlic—still very “Japanese” tasting. Next time I’ll slice the chicken thinner.

Easy to follow, but didn’t taste as good as I expected. Needs more seasoning.

Nah, I thought it was fine without extra stuff. Maybe try cooking it differently? 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar Caleb Hills says:

I totally agree! I thought the same thing. A sprinkle of garlic powder might help too.

  115. User avatar Ms. Helaine Murphy says:

Meh. The omelette part was fine, but the soy/mirin seemed a little too strong for my taste. I’ll cut it down next time.

  116. 5 stars
This is amazing! The flavors are so rich and delicious. I added some spinach for extra nutrition. 5/5!

Pretty good, but 5 minutes for thinly sliced chicken felt short? I ended up giving it another minute. Other than that, great flavor.

  118. 2 stars
Meh. I mean, it’s egg and chicken, so of course it’s edible. But the mirin taste was kinda strong to me and the flipping part stress me out lol.

  119. 5 stars
So good! — will do again

I don’t get the point of flipping—just scramble it instead. Mine broke apart and I lost the “omelette wedge” vibe.

    1. User avatar shanna.waters says:

      4 stars
I get you—if the flip goes wrong, it’s definitely demoralizing. I’ve had better luck keeping it together by cooking the first side just until set (not dry) and using a very nonstick pan.

    2. 3 stars
Wait—Japanese omelette but you’re flipping like a pancake? 😅 I tried once and it just turned into scrambled eggs, but honestly… tasted the same. Next time I’m gonna “scramble but still wedge” lol.
