Halloween Cake Pops are the perfect bite-sized treats for any spooky celebration. With their fun and festive designs, these cake pops bring a creative twist to your Halloween dessert table. Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party or looking for a fun activity with the kids, making Halloween Cake Pops is an easy and delightful way to enjoy the holiday season. Coated in colorful candy melts and decorated with eerie faces, monsters, or pumpkins, these cake pops are as fun to make as they are to eat.
To create the base for Halloween Cake Pops, start by baking your favorite cake flavor. Once the cake has cooled, crumble it into fine crumbs and mix with frosting. The frosting helps bind the cake crumbs together, forming a dough-like consistency. Once mixed, roll the cake and frosting mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Insert a stick into each cake ball and freeze them for a bit to ensure they hold their shape when dipped.
For the fun part – decorating! Dip each cake pop into melted candy melts in orange, purple, black, or white to create the perfect Halloween color palette. You can drizzle different colors of melted chocolate over the pops for a striped effect, or cover them completely for a smooth, shiny finish. After dipping, let the cake pops cool and harden before adding spooky faces, like jack-o’-lanterns, mummies, or googly-eyed monsters.
Halloween Cake Pops can be further decorated with sprinkles, edible glitter, or chocolate drizzle for an extra touch of flair. You can also use fondant or colored icing to pipe designs, making each cake pop look like a miniature piece of Halloween art. For a cute and creepy touch, you could add little candy eyeballs or use white chocolate to create spider webs or ghost faces.
These cake pops are easy to customize, allowing you to get creative with different designs and flavors. You can make classic chocolate or vanilla cake pops or add in other fall-inspired flavors like pumpkin spice or caramel. Whether you’re serving them at a party, giving them out as favors, or enjoying them as a treat, Halloween Cake Pops are a fun and delicious way to bring some spooky cheer to your celebration!

- Bake the cake as per the package instructions and let it cool completely.
- Crumble the cake into a large bowl and mix in frosting until the mixture can be easily formed into balls.
- Roll the mixture into small balls and chill them in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

So creative! I added some nuts and coconut on top instead of sprinkles. Delicious!
I absolutely love making seasonal recipes, and these Halloween cake pops are just perfect! Not only are they incredibly delicious, but they’re also so much fun to make. The kids were thrilled with how they looked, and even the adults were pleasantly surprised. Thank you for this amazing recipe, it’s definitely going to become a tradition for our Halloween parties!
These look so fun! I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m definitely saving the recipe for my next party. Can’t wait to see how they turn out!
It really is simple to make and so delightful. You should definitely give it a try, especially if you’re looking for something fun and tasty for your next party.
Verry fun and easy! Even my cat didn’t hate them!
Easy enough, but my chocolate seized a bit when I overheated it (rookie mistake, I guess). Still tasted great though. Next time I’ll be more careful with the microwave timing.
Oof, chocolate seizing is the worst—usually it’s just a little too much heat or moisture. Glad it still tasted great though! 🎃
Maybe try adding a tiny bit of oil? That helps it not seize, I think. Also I’d use 20 seconds at a time and stir—microwave is so sneaky.
I don’t get why people love these. They just seem like glorified cake balls to me. 🤷♂️
kinda mid tbh. tasted fine but the sticks didn’t stay in. i guess i didn’t chill long enough? idk
Clever Halloween idea! The sprinkles stuck best when I worked fast, and I loved how the chocolate made them feel like “real” treats.
These cake pops are a hit at every party! So easy to make and super delicious. Definitely a 5 from me!
I made these for a party and everyone loved them! Will definitely make again.
Super easy recipe! I used red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting. So good!
Cake pops? Sounds complicated lol. I’d rather just eat a slice of cake 🤷♂️!
I was skeptical, but these actually turned out good. My co-workers were impressed!
Wow, coworkers impressed? I doubt they could’ve liked them that much, it’s just cake on a stick!
That’s awesome! I’m glad they turned out well for you! I was hesitant too, but now I’m convinced to try it!
These are soooo cute! My kids loved making them! 🧡
LOL, how do you make them look like yours in the pic? Mine look like blobs!
I dunno, mine always turn out weird too. Maybe they’re too soft or something? 🤷♂️
Practice makes perfect! Maybe try to roll them a bit smoother? And make sure they’re really chilled before dipping.
I’m confused. How do you melt chocolate chips? Is it really that hard? 🤔
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the “mix frosting until it forms balls” part. But it worked—just took more frosting than the recipe said for my box mix.
Just a tip: you can use cookie dough instead of cake mix for a more chewy texture. I did that once! It was cool.
These turned out amazing! My kids loved helping make them for their Halloween party. 🍬
Wasn’t hard to make, but the chocolate just wouldn’t stick right. Mine ended up lookin weird lol.
I had the same issue! Maybe try letting the chocolate cool a bit before dipping? It might help it stick better. Good luck!
These cake pops are soooo good! My kids loved making them for Halloween. 🎃
Not gonna lie, “dip and drip” sounds like a mess. I tried and the coating was too thick and clumpy. Also, sprinkles everywhere… my kitchen looked like a crime scene.
Huh… I think the sprinkles thing might be user error 😬 If you don’t chill the balls enough, the coating melts and grabs everything. And dip and drip is exactly what it says—if yours clumped, maybe you overheated the chocolate chips? Microwave in short bursts, stir more often. Crime scene though… lol.
Oof, that definitely sounds frustrating 😅 “Dip and drip” is fun to say, but if the chocolate’s too thick you get clumps. I’ve found adding a tiny bit of coconut oil (like 1 tsp at a time) helps the coating stay smoother. Also letting them chill longer before dipping can reduce the “gloppy” mess.
Wish I could make them as pretty as the picture! Mine looked more like blobs. 😂
Yummy! I used red velvet cake mix and chocolate sprinkles. Looked awesome!
They look cute but tasted a bit too sweet for me. Maybe less frosting next time? 🤔
This looks like a lot of work. I just buy them from the store usually. But I might try this for Halloween.
Confusing instructions! Do I need to let the cake cool even if it says so? 😕
Yes, you definitely need to let the cake cool completely! Otherwise, you might end up with a mess when you try to crumble it. Trust the recipe! 😊
Recipe seems easy, but I don’t trust that microwave method for melting chocolate. Isn’t the double boiler better?
I get what you’re saying! The double boiler is definitely a classic. But microwaving can work if you keep an eye on it!
These were shockingly easy and actually turned out cute. I used vanilla cake + chocolate frosting and the coating tasted way better than I expected.
I tried these and they came out a bit messy. The chocolate didn’t stick well. 🙁
I don’t know why people make these. Just buy a cake. Sounds easier!
To dip properly, you gotta not let it cool too much! I messed mine up the first time; now I know!
Totally agree! The timing is everything, I just learned that the hard way too! 🍰
I tried this recipe, but my cake pops fell apart. Maybe I added too much frosting? Not sure.
That happened to me too! I think it’s easy to go overboard with the frosting. Try using just half of what you think you need next time.
Maybe your cake was too moist? Some cake mixes can be weird. I’ve had better luck with the brand that starts with B, you know?
These turned out amazing! My kids loved them! 🎃
Delicious! I used red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting. So festive! 🎉
That sounds super tasty! Red velvet and cream cheese is such a great combo. I’m gonna try it! 🎂❤️
Pretty easy and kinda addictive. Mine cracked a little though because I didn’t chill them long enough (only like 20 minutes). Next time I’ll do the full hour+.
Epic win! These are a hit with my friends! 🎉
5 stars! So good! I added orange and black sprinkles for Halloween!
I followed the steps exactly and they still felt a little bland. The chocolate coating was good, but the cake part needed something—next time I’ll add a pinch of salt or use a richer frosting.
Hmm that makes sense—cake mix can be a bit one-note. A tiny pinch of salt really does wake up the flavor, and richer frosting (or even a little vanilla) might help too. I’ve also found that letting the cake cool fully before mixing makes a difference.
Super fun to make! We made them for Halloween and decorated them like little monsters. Thank you for this recipe!
I dunno, they were okay, but my kids wanted more chocolate flavor, so we dipped them twice. More chocolate, I say!
Honestly, they taste kinda dry. I think I overbaked the cake. Gonna try with more frosting next time. 😕
They kinda fell apart when I dipped them… not sure if it was my fault. 🤷♀️
It happens! They’re tricky to dip sometimes. Maybe let them chill a bit longer next time? 😊
These are so cute! Can’t wait to make them for my daughter’s party. 🎉
I tried using vanilla yogurt instead of frosting… it did not work at all! They were too mushy 😅.
I followed the recipe but my pops fell apart when I dipped them. What did I do wrong? 😩
I can’t believe how easy these are! Perfect for Halloween parties! 🎉
This was super easy and fun! I’ve never made cake pops before and they turned out great!
I followed it mostly, but 2 cups chocolate chips for coating feels like overkill depending on how many cake pops you make. Also my sprinkles kept falling off until it set more—maybe I’m doing something wrong.
Okay i tried and the coating cracked lol. Maybe my chocolate chips got burned in the microwave (oops). Still kinda cool and spooky though!
World’s simplest Halloween dessert. I used red velvet cake mix for fun and it looked creepy-pretty. Great party treat.
I tried something like this once and the chocolate wouldn’t set right… maybe my chips were old? Also, I felt like the frosting-to-cake ratio mattered a lot. Still, cute concept!
Love how easy this is—cake pops always look so fancy but this makes it actually doable. The red velvet idea sounds perfect for Halloween.
Worst part: melting chocolate chips in the microwave—burned mine by minute 2. I’m not sure if I used the wrong chips or just got distracted.
I don’t like chocolate much. Can I use white chocolate? Asking for a friend.
Sure, white chocolate would work fine! Just be aware it’s a bit sweeter than regular chocolate.
I guess you can use white choc but it might not taste as good. Just sayin’.
They’re OK, but the chocolate was way too sweet for my taste. Maybe try using less frosting?
I agree! The chocolate frosting can be over the top. Less is more sometimes. 😅
I think cake pops are overrated. Just eat cake, right? But my niece liked them, I guess.
Aren’t these just cookies on a stick? I don’t see the appeal honestly.
Made these with my little sister, messy but fun! Thx for the recipe!
Do you really need that chocolate for coating? Seems like too much work.
I think the chocolate coating makes them taste even better! It’s worth the effort for something delicious.
Nah, just leave the chocolate out. I made them without and they were still good!
Yum!
I tried making these, but they fell apart when I dipped them in chocolate. Any tips?
Make sure the cake balls are really cold before dipping them in chocolate. It helps them hold their shape better!
Tried this recipe, but my cake pops turned out too soft and fell apart. Did I mix the frosting too much?!
Cake mix is so easi. Love it. Yum!
These cake pops were a HUGE hit at the Halloween party! 🎃 So easy to make!
Yummy! I used red velvet cake mix and cream cheese frosting. They came out spooky and tasty! 👻
Halloween theme nailed, but I wish it gave a clearer sprinkles timing. I waited a few minutes and they wouldn’t stick. Also 1 hour chill feels short if your kitchen is warm.
I followed the instructions but my chocolate didn’t stick. What am I doing wrong? 😩
Cake pops are overrated. Too much work for “just cake.” Also why does it need lollipop sticks?? Kids like it I guess but I’m not impressed.
I get it—cake pops can be a lot of fuss. But the lollipop sticks are kind of the point, right? They make them fun/easy to grab, especially for parties. The taste is still “just cake,” but in a cute format.
Nah, I’m with you. Way too much work. I tried once and it was chocolate everywhere and the sticks kept falling out 😅. Also pretty sure I used too much frosting—couldn’t even roll the balls right.
These are super cute! I made them for my kids’ Halloween party and they loved them!
These turned out super cute and actually easy. I used chocolate cake mix with vanilla frosting and they tasted amazing—way better than store-bought.
They’re cute, but I feel like chocolate coating takes forever to set… also 1 box cake mix might make way more than “small balls” for sticks? I always mess it up lol.
Love this! Using cake mix + frosting is basically the cheat code 😄 Glad they turned out cute and tasty.
I think they taste weird… like, is cake supposed to be this soft? I don’t know.
I totally get what you mean! Cake pops can be a bit different from regular cake. The softness is normal since they are meant to be moist and blended with frosting. Maybe they just need to set a bit more? 😊
Nice recipe! Just got done making these and they look sooo cute with sprinkles. Perfect for Halloween 🎃
10/10. Easy and fun!
Yummm! Can’t wait to take these to my kids’ school. They’ll go crazy for these cake pops! 🍬
YUMM! I used red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting, they turned out amazing!
Mine slid off the stick because I didn’t chill enough. Also, I ran out of sprinkles halfway through, so I “improvise” with chocolate lines… turned out decent though.
1 hour chilling wasn’t enough for me. They fell off the sticks when I dipped them. I should’ve chilled longer. Taste was good, but the assembly needs work.
These cake pops are super cute! Made them for a Halloween party and they were a hit! 🎃
So glad to hear you loved them! 🎉 Perfect for Halloween! Do you think they’d work for other parties too?
My kids loved making these! Fun activity and they are super cute! 🎃
These are the cutest things ever! My kids loved making them! 🎃
I followed the steps pretty closely but my coating got thick fast. Next time I’ll add a tiny bit of coconut oil to the melted chocolate. Still tasty though!
Maybe you microwaved too long? Also, 2 cups chocolate chips might not be enough depending on how thick you dip. I always add a little oil or shortening right away so it stays smooth. “Still tasty though” counts 😄
Glad it was still tasty! Thick coating can happen if the chocolate cools too quickly or gets over-heated—adding a tiny bit of coconut oil sounds like a good fix. Next time, try melting gently and keeping it warm while you dip.
5 stars but only because my nephew said it was ‘boo-tiful’. The recipe itself is kinda vague about how thick to melt the chocolate, but it worked anyway!
Haha “boo-tiful” from the nephew is the best kind of review 😄 I agree though—this one’s a little vague on the chocolate thickness. I just go by smooth + not too runny and it works!
Not gonna lie, the chocolate part is always my struggle. I try to melt it smooth like the directions say, but sometimes it gets thick and clumpy fast. Still turned out “okay” though—better than the last time!
Y’all! I forgot to cool the cake, and it was a mess! 😂
Oh no! 😄 Happens to the best of us! At least it still tasted good, right? Next time, just let it chill a bit longer.
You shouldn’t forget to cool it!! That’s like rule number 1 in baking! Lol. Might still be able to salvage it, though?
I don’t get it. Why do they call it ‘cake pops’? It’s just cake on a stick! What’s next, bread sticks?
Why would you roll cake in frosting? Sounds messy. I’d rather just eat the cake! 😂
Yum!!! 🤤 My kids loved them, will make every Halloween!
Just okay. I’ve had better cake pops from the store. This recipe isn’t great.
I didn’t have chocolate chips, so I melted some peanut butter instead. Still tasted good but not as fancy.
These came out so cute! I used vanilla cake mix and cream cheese frosting, and the chocolate coating actually stayed smooth. The chill time is key—worth waiting.
Glad it worked for you, but I gotta say… mine never stays smooth if I use cream cheese frosting. Maybe my chocolate seizes? I stir it, but it turns kinda grainy after a bit.
Aww I love hearing this! The chill time really makes a difference—mine always fall apart if I rush it. Also, vanilla cake mix sounds perfect for Halloween.
I thought cake pops were hard but this recipe made it so easy! Thanks!
I tried this recipe and it really is doable! Glad you enjoyed it too!
These cake pops are super cute! Made them for my kids Halloween party and they loved them.
Uh, do u really need 2 cups of chocolate chips?? Seems like too much. 🤔
Not gonna lie, the dipping part stressed me out. The chocolate hardened too fast, so I kept reheating it. But once I got the hang of it, the decorations looked great.
Just made these for a party and everyone loved them! I’ll definitely be making more! 😍
Why use a box mix? Homebaked tastes better. Make a real cake!
Box mixes are super convenient and still taste great! Not everyone has time to bake from scratch. Plus, these cake pops are gonna be fun for Halloween!
Meh. Didn’t like it. Cake pops are overrated. Just giv me cake already! 👎
I kinda get what you’re saying! Cake pops can be a bit much sometimes. But they’re fun for parties! 🎉
Cake pops are overrated. Too much chocolate dipping, too many steps, and you end up with mess everywhere. Would rather just eat the cake.
I followed the steps, but my cake pops were a little crumbly. I think I didn’t mix the frosting enough or chilled them long enough. Still, the flavor was good!
This makes sense! If they were crumbly, I’d also suspect not enough frosting or not mixing until it really holds together. Next time try squeezing a little ball—if it won’t press cleanly, add 1–2 tbsp more frosting and chill longer.
Ugh cake pops are so finicky 😅 I had the same issue once. I think 1 hour wasn’t enough for me—try like 2–3 hours. Also don’t overbake the cake; mine got too dry and then it totally fell apart.
Soo good!!! I made them for class and they disappeared first 😅
These are amazing! I made them for my kid’s Halloween party and everyone loved them!
That sounds so fun! Cake pops are a hit at parties! 🎉
This recipe is too complicated. Ain’t nobody got time for that! 😒
These cake pops are amazing! Super easy to make and taste delish!
Do you really need to chill them for an hour? I forgot and just dipped them right away. Still worked out! 😜
Cake popz!
These look super fun! Can’t wait to try them for my Halloween party! 🎉
Cake mix? Isn’t that cheating? I’ll stick to my grandma’s recipe. 🤷♂️
My cake balls kept crumbling and wouldn’t form clean spheres. I think I overbaked the cake… lesson learned. Flavor was good regardless.
I don’t get how these are ‘cake pops’ if you just throw some frosting in a cake. Sounds weird.
Uhhh, where do you even buy cake mix? I’ve only ever used flour and eggs. Is this a new trend?
You can usually find cake mix in the baking aisle at the grocery store! It’s super convenient and a lot of people use it. It’s not really a trend, just a shortcut! 🙂
A solid recipe, but it could use more flavor. Maybe add some extract? 🤔
More flavor? I dunno, this recipe seems good enough as is! Just following the steps, it’ll turn out great! 🤷♂️
I think adding some vanilla or almond extract would be perfect! It really enhances the flavor. 🍰✨
Delicious! I used red velvet cake mix and cream cheese frosting. Yummm!
These were surprisingly easy—my kids loved the spooky look. I used vanilla cake mix and cream cheese frosting and they held together great after chilling.
These are adorable! I made them with chocolate cake mix and vanilla frosting and they actually came out super smooth. The dipping step takes a little patience, but it’s totally worth it for Halloween parties.
I don’t understand how this is Halloween themed? Like, where’s the pumpkin? 🤔
I mixed up the instructions and burned the chocolate. Could’ve been better!
uhh i think the sticks were backwards?? lol. But i’m sure it’s fine—my kids ate them immediately.
Wait—sticks backwards? 😅 If the sticks were flipped but still set into the balls, I bet they still work. Kids don’t need perfect alignment lol. I’m glad they ate them right away—sounds like a win!
Not gonna lie, 2 cups of chocolate chips was nowhere near enough for my batch. I had to add more and it still came out good.
They tasted good but my chocolate got clumpy, idk what I did wrong! Lol
Clumpy chocolate can happen if you heat it too much. Try melting it slower next time! 😊
Not a huge fan of cake pops, but these were easy to make. I just wish they didn’t look so messy.
So easy! My niece helped me make these and we had a blast! Going to try different flavors next time.
Sounds like so much fun! Can’t wait to try it too! 🎉
Is it really that easy? I’ve never made cake pops before. 🤔
Shouldn’t you bake the cake longer? Mine came out kinda soggy…
Nah, the recipe is fine, you probably didn’t bake it long enough! Just follow the package instructions!
I had the same issue! Maybe it’s the oven temp? Double-check that next time. Mine were gooey too!
These are so fun for Halloween! I used chocolate cake mix + cream cheese frosting and they actually turned out neat. Chilling makes a huge difference—don’t rush it.
I followed it pretty close, but my balls kept crumbling when I tried to dip them. Maybe I didn’t chill long enough—still tasty though.
Ugh, I’ve had that happen too—usually it’s not chilled long enough or the cake/frosting ratio is off. I try to chill the balls 2+ hours and mix until they hold together really well before rolling.
Maybe your chocolate coating was too warm? If it starts melting the balls, they crumble when you dip. Next time, let the chocolate cool a bit and chill again. Still counts though—tasty > pretty!
Not gonna lie, I thought cake pops would be harder. This recipe is super straightforward and the ratio of cake to frosting feels right. Mine were a little crumbly until I mixed longer.
I followed it exactly and mine kept sliding off the sticks. The chocolate was too thin—next time I’ll temper or use a candy melt. Otherwise, pretty tasty.
That sounds frustrating! If the coating is too thin, the cake ball won’t “grab” the stick. I’ve had better luck letting the chocolate cool slightly after melting (so it thickens a bit) and making sure the pops are very cold before dipping. Candy melts/tempering usually help too—your plan for next time makes sense.
my kids loved it. they made a mess but oh well, they ate it all!
Dude, you can’t just put frosting in crumbled cake! Nonsense! -_-
I liked the concept but mine came out kind of messy—chocolate seized up on me when I overheated the chips in the microwave. Next time I’ll stir more gently and shorten the bursts.
These are fun and festive, and the chocolate dip makes them look way fancier than they are. I’d make them again for sure.
Great for parties! I added some ghost faces with icing and they were a hit!
Great for Halloween parties! I used red and black sprinkles for a spooky look. Will def make again! 👻
Super easy for a busy weeknight. My kids had fun with the sprinkles. I did add a tiny bit more frosting just to get the balls to hold together.
Mine melted in the heat! Don’t do this in summer!!!
Easy enough for a weeknight, but I messed up step 4 and overheated the chocolate for like 20 seconds too long 😅 still tasted good though. Sprinkles hide a multitude of sins.
The instructions are clear, but I’m not sure why it says ‘dip the ends into chocolate’—I skipped that part and just poked sticks in. They still held, so… maybe not necessary?
Not impressed. The cake mix didn’t taste as good as I expected. Maybe try a homemade recipe?
I get what you mean! Sometimes those boxed mixes just don’t hit the spot. Homemade is definitely worth trying if you have the time!
Yum
These sound delish! Can’t wait to make them for Halloween! 🎃
Lemme just say, cake with a stick? Mind blown! Love it!
I don’t get it. Why not just bake a cake? Seems silly to me.
Why do we need to chill them? Isn’t it just cake? 🤔
I don’t see the big deal. Just make them all gooey, cake should be soft anyway? 🤷♂️
Chilling helps the cake pops hold their shape better when you dip them in chocolate. It’s not just cake, it’s a whole process! 🥳
These were spooky and delicious! I used chocolate cake mix and vanilla frosting—perfect contrast. The only thing is I had to chill longer than 1 hour to keep them from crumbling when dipping, but totally worth it.
Five stars! I made a batch and they were gone in minutes. The texture is like a cross between truffles and cake.
These turn out better than store-bought if you’re patient. I recommend letting the chocolate drip longer before adding sprinkles so they actually stick and don’t melt away.
