Grilled Steak and Bell Pepper Breakfast Hash

August 9, 2023

If you’re looking to start your day with something hearty and satisfying, a grilled steak and bell pepper breakfast hash is the kind of bold breakfast that delivers. This dish is a high-protein, flavor-packed way to fuel your morning, combining tender grilled steak with sweet, slightly charred bell peppers and crispy golden potatoes in one savory skillet.

What makes this breakfast hash so special is the balance of textures and flavors. The steak brings a rich, meaty bite that pairs beautifully with the natural sweetness of bell peppers. Add in some caramelized onions and crunchy potatoes, and you have a breakfast that eats more like a feast than a routine meal. Whether you prefer your steak medium-rare or well-done, it plays perfectly off the fresh vegetables and simple seasoning.

This kind of dish is often associated with weekend brunch, but it’s easy enough to prep for weekday mornings too. You can grill the steak ahead of time, chop the veggies the night before, and simply toss everything into a pan in the morning. In less than 15 minutes, you’ll have a hot, savory breakfast that keeps you full for hours.

Another great thing about breakfast hash is its flexibility. Don’t have steak? Swap it with leftover chicken, sausage, or even tofu. You can use any type of potato, or go low-carb with sweet potatoes or cauliflower. Throw in a handful of spinach or kale at the end for an extra boost of greens.

If you want to elevate it even further, top your hash with a fried or poached egg. The runny yolk adds a silky richness that ties everything together. A splash of hot sauce or a spoonful of chimichurri can also take it to the next level.

Grilled steak and bell pepper breakfast hash isn’t just a dish – it’s a celebration of everything that makes a great breakfast. It’s warm, filling, and layered with flavor, making it the perfect way to start a productive day or recover from a long night. Whether you’re cooking for yourself or a full house, this is the kind of breakfast that makes everyone look forward to mornings.

Honestly, this was just alright. The potatoes took way longer to crisp up than you said.

Honestly, how hard can it be to get potatoes crispy? I think it was just your cooking skills haha.

I totally get you! Mine took forever too! Maybe it’s the kind of potatoes? I used russets.

I tried this recipe, but the potatoes took forever to cook! Maybe I cut them too big? Anyway, not sure I loved the cayenne.

Never cooked steak like this before, so it was a bit tough. Not sure if I did it wrong?

      4 stars
Maybe the steak was overcooked? Try reducing the grill time next time.

Meh. Too many peppers and not enough seasoning. I ran out of cayenne so I skipped it and it still tasted bland. My potatoes never really got crispy.

Chorizo sounds like a great addition! I usually just make it as is, but I’ll have to try that next time.

Not sure about adding chorizo… isn’t the steak enough? Sounds kinda heavy.

Is the olive oil necessary? Seems like just extra fat, I used butter instead.

    1. User avatar natasha.harris says:

      3 stars
Olive oil is healthier tho! Butter is tasty but it got cholesterol and stuff. What you think?

    2. User avatar Landon Hodkiewicz says:

      4 stars
I think olive oil adds a nice flavor, but butter is fine too! Just depends on what you like!

Kind of fussy with all the chopping, but grilling the steak and then tossing it on top is a win. I also cooked the potatoes a bit longer so they browned more.

  22. User avatar delmy.stehr says:

    2 stars
Why would you put so many vegetables? It should just be about the steak.
