Chicken Italiano is a delicious, comforting dish packed with the rich flavors of Italy. Tender chicken breasts are simmered in a savory sauce of tomatoes, garlic, and herbs, then topped with gooey melted cheese. This dish is easy to prepare and brings together the best of Italian-inspired comfort food. Chicken plays an important role in Italian cuisine, offering versatility, flavor, and comfort across a variety of regional dishes.
The heart of Chicken Italiano is the sauce – a flavorful blend of veggies, herbs like basil, oregano, and a hint of red pepper flakes for a subtle kick. As the chicken simmers in this savory mixture, it becomes juicy and infused with aromatic Italian flavors. The sauce reduces slightly, becoming thick and rich, perfect for spooning over pasta, rice, or roasted vegetables. The result is a hearty, satisfying dish that’s both rustic and elegant.
Chicken Italiano is incredibly versatile. Serve it over spaghetti for a classic pairing, alongside garlic bread and a crisp salad, or with roasted potatoes for a comforting, filling meal. You can also customize it by adding olives, mushrooms, or bell peppers to the sauce for extra flavor and texture.
This dish is perfect for busy weeknights when you want something quick yet delicious or for weekend dinners when you’re in the mood for homemade comfort. Chicken Italiano offers that perfect combination of savory, cheesy, and saucy that everyone loves. It’s simple, satisfying, and guaranteed to become a family favorite.
While chicken isn’t traditionally paired with pasta in authentic Italian cooking (despite its popularity in Italian-American recipes), it’s often served alongside risottos, polenta, or roasted potatoes. Its mild flavor allows it to absorb the rich flavors of sauces, herbs, and wines beautifully.
Overall, chicken in Italian cuisine represents comfort, simplicity, and a deep respect for fresh, high-quality ingredients. Whether grilled, braised, baked, or fried, chicken continues to be a beloved choice in kitchens throughout Italy.

Not sure about this one. Seemed bland to me but my wife liked it.
Didnt have white wine so used apple juice instead. Tasted kinda sweet but still nice!
Capers and white wine is brave lol. I was skeptical, but it actually made the pan sauce taste more complex than I expected. The whole thing smelled amazing while it was cooking.
I’m with you—capers + white wine sounds kinda wild, but it does make the sauce taste deeper. I tried it once and now I’m sold. 😄
Capers in wine? Uh ok lol. I used more lemon juice than called for and it was a bit too tangy for me… but the smell while cooking really does slap. Next time I’ll measure better.
easy peasy! I subbed the wine for chicken broth and it still turned out great! <3
Delicious! But I forgot the capers—still tasted good tho! Next time I’ll remember.
Can I use a different kinda wine? I don’t have white wine, only red. Will it ruin it?
I think red wine would totally change the flavor, but if you’re in a pinch, give it a shot! Might be different but who knows, it could be tasty!
Absolutely loved this recipe! The chicken turned out so juicy. Will make it again!
Made this last night—super crispy coating and the sauce tasted bright and fancy. I used lemon zest too and it was even better. 10/10 for a quick weeknight upgrade.
Didn’t have capers, so I used olives instead. Tasted fine but not Italian, you know? 😂
This dish was so good! I added a bit of garlic and it made it perfect. Will definitely make again.
Not sure about the artichokes; they were a bit weird for me. The chicken turned out okay, though.
Whaaat? You don’t like artichokes? They’re like, the best! 🤷♂️ Chicken is alright, but artichokes are life!
I totally get you! Artichokes can be a bit funky for some people. But I thought they added a nice flavor. Glad the chicken turned out okay for you!
I dunno, it just didn’t work for me. The wine was too strong maybe? I might try it without.
This recipe was a hit! My family loved it. I added a bit of garlic for extra flavor!
too hard to make!! I do not have patience for all the steps ugh. Ends up takeing me forever.
I like bold flavors, so I really enjoyed the briny capers. Only thing: I found it a bit tangy—maybe because I used bottled lemon juice. Next time I’ll go lighter on that.
Totally agree—capers make it pop! I’ve also noticed bottled lemon juice can taste sharper than fresh, so “lighten up” is a good call.
Interesting—mine was tangy too but I thought it was the white wine, not the lemon. Next time I’ll try fresh lemon or maybe reduce both? Also, how much lemon juice do you use?
Looks easy. I will try it tonight.
Uh “cut chicken diagonally into 1/4-inch pieces” sounds kinda hard 😂 I might just cut it normal strips. Also, do we add flour + breadcrumbs for the coating or just flour then egg then crumbs?
Nice—this does look pretty doable for a weeknight. I’d just make sure the chicken pieces aren’t too thick so they cook through evenly.
Love it! Simple but very delicious!
is it really italian? zest lemon would be betta! just saying!
Y’all, I burnt the chicken. Maybe I need a cooking class. But the sauce was good, so there’s that.
We’ve all been there! At least the sauce was a win! Maybe just keep an eye on the chicken next time. Cooking is all about practice! 😊
This was delicious! My family loved it. Definitely a keeper!
Fast and easy! Great for a weekday dinner. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you found it easy. Do you have any tips for making it even better?
Yummy! I added some mushrooms because we had some left over. Came out real nice!
This was ok, but I think it needed more spices. Kinda bland for us.
Soo good! 😍 Even my picky eater kid loved it! I’ll definitely keep this in my recipe book.
Looks good, but my kid hates artichokes. Can I leave them out?
I’m glad to hear that! It’s always a win when the picky eaters enjoy it too. 😄
1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup breadcrumbs—pretty heavy for two chicken breasts in my opinion. I liked the crunch, but it felt like there was too much breading on some bites. Would likely reduce by like 1/4 cup next time.
Yum!! I added garlic and it was amazing. Wish I could give it a 10!
Garlic is always a good idea! Makes everything better. 🧄
Kinda bland! Needs more flavor. Maybe more lemon juice or something.
I used chicken thighs instead and it turned out amazing! Better tasting than breasts for sure!
This recipe is missing something… maybe some garlic? Just feels bland.
I totally agree! Garlic would make this dish pop! I always add it for extra flavor.
Bland? Really? I think it’s fine as is. Sometimes less is more, ya know?
Is it supposed to be this oily? 🙄
Yeah, it seems like quite a bit of oil. Maybe try using less next time?
I dunno, it seemed awfully complicated just for chicken. I might stick to my usual recipes.
Nah, looks too much work for me. I rather just grill it and keep it simple. You can still make it taste great without all that hassle!
I can see where you’re coming from! Sometimes simpler is better. But this chicken dish really packs a punch with flavors! Maybe give it a try once? 😊
Can you really call this Italian? Where’s the garlic? Just doesn’t feel right!
Amazing! The flavors worked so well together, especially with the artichokes. Highly recommend!
Artichokes? Not sure about that… I think they ruin the chicken flavor. Might try it without.
I totally agree! The artichokes really elevate this dish. Can’t wait to make it again!
It was okay-ish. I didn’t have artichokes so I used mushrooms instead. Not sure if I did it right.
Mushrooms sound like a nice twist! I think it can still work. Just make sure they’re cooked well before adding them to the dish! 😄
Not having the right ingredients can mess things up! 😕 But mushrooms might not give the same flavor. Maybe try it again with artichokes next time?
Yummm!!! My kids loved it! I used chicken thighs instead and still turned out yummy! 🍽️
Glad your kids loved it! Chicken thighs are super juicy, great choice! I’ll have to try that too! 😊
I dunno, but chicken thighs feel kinda greasy to me. Did they really taste that good? 🤔
Eh, I expected more. My chicken was too dry. Maybe overcooked it?
I think you might have cooked it too long. Chicken can dry out fast! Try reducing the cooking time next time. Hope it turns out better!
Overcooked? Nah, maybe you just need some more sauce or butter to keep it moist? Just my thoughts!
This recipe is awesome! Chicken perfecto ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Angel hair pasta with this? Yes please. I used capers and they basically made it taste like restaurant food. Lemon juice also helps cut through the richness.
Really? Fried chicken with wine? Sounds fancy but just chicken and artichokes? Not sold on this recipe.
Not bad at all. I followed most of it, but my chicken pieces were too big since I didn’t cut them thin enough. Sauce was great though—would definitely try again with thinner cutlets.
I think chicken too big is the whole problem, but also you might be over-breading? Mine came out ok though. Sauce really good—capers are the move.
Thanks! And yeah, those pieces make a huge difference—1/4-inch is key. Next time you’ll be golden 😄
2 eggs for coating seems kinda low? I had breadcrumb everywhere and not enough egg to stick. Maybe my pieces were too wet. Still edible, but I’d tweak the proportions.
I made something similar once and it turned out great, but I’d add one thing: the breadcrumb mix doesn’t list salt in your ingredients. Step 2 says breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper—so I’m guessing salt is missing from the list? Still, looks solid.
Simple and easy! But like… what’s the deal with the wine? Can I skip it? My kids don’t drink, lol!
Wow, this Chicken Italiano is absolutely delicious! My family loved it!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! It’s one of my favorites too. 😊
Simple and delish! I didn’t have artichoke hearts but used mushrooms instead. Still great!
Sounds yummy! I bet mushrooms added a nice earthy flavor. I’ll try that next time!
Easy to make and looked fancy! Perfect dinner for guests.
Looks fancy but seems like a lot of steps. Is it really easy? I might just stick to pasta.
This sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try it for my dinner party. Thanks for sharing!
So easy & tasty! Perfect for a weeknight meal. Love that you can switch sides too!
I made this last night! It was indeed super easy and my family loved it. Going to add more capers next time! Thanks for the recipe!
This recipe was fantastic! My family loved it. The flavors were just perfect!
I followed it pretty closely but my chicken ended up a bit dry. Next time I’ll shorten the simmer time and maybe add a splash more lemon juice at the end. Flavor was still solid though.
Dry chicken is a bummer. I’m wondering if the flour-to-egg-to-bread crumbs coating helps keep it moist or if it actually traps heat in a bad way? Also, did you use chicken breasts like the recipe says? Mine stays juicy but maybe my pan wasn’t hot enough.
Thanks for sharing! Chicken drying out makes sense—when you simmer too long it can overcook fast. Shortening the simmer a bit and finishing with extra lemon is a great fix. Love that the flavor still came through though.
i Love chicken! This looks yummy, I will try this for sure!!
I don’t like artichokes but I tried this recipe. It was surprisingly good! Maybe I’m a fan now?
Made this last night—super flavorful. The capers + lemon juice combo is 🔥. I did find 1/2 cup flour felt a little light for coating, so I added a bit more, but it still came out crisp.
The breading didn’t stick to mine. I coat in flour, then egg, then crumbs like the instructions said, but it still slid off when frying. Any tips? Temperature maybe?
Absolutely loved this! So delicious 😍. The artichokes and capers gave it a unique twist. Will make again!
Followed the recipe step by step, and it turned out perfect! Way better than what I expected. 10/10!
Good idea with the artichokes and capers, but the recipe feels a little unclear—like it mentions salt in step 2 even though salt isn’t in the ingredients list. I used salt anyway and it turned out fine, just wish that detail was consistent.
OMG, this is now my favorite dinner! So easy and delicious. 😍
Looks yummy, but I don’t like artichokes. Can I use something else?
I totally agree! This recipe is a lifesaver on busy nights. 🌟
Uh, does anyone know if I can use frozen chicken? Cause I only got that in my fridge right now. LMK!
I don’t know about the artichokes… they were kinda weird in this. I prefer my chicken plain.
I get what you mean! Artichokes can be an acquired taste. Just add some more spices next time! 🍗
Made this for my husband and he said it was the best chicken he’s ever had. Thanks!
Isn’t italian chicken just pasta? Why add all that stuff?
This recipe is bomb! Tastes like real Italian food. Thanks for sharing! 🍝
I don’t like capers much so I omitted them, and it turned out okay but kinda bland. Maybe should’ve used more spices?
I used spaghetti instead of angel hair and it worked fine.
Really? Spaghetti??? Isn’t that too thick for this dish?
That’s interesting! Spaghetti is more filling anyway. I’ll try that next time for sure.
I’m skeptical about the whole flour-to-egg-to-breadcrumb situation. Mine got soggy the moment it hit the simmering sauce. Flavor was there, texture wasn’t.
Too much artichoke! 😩 I like them but not that much! Maybe cut it in half next time.
This was super easy to make! My family loved it, and I didn’t even have to clean up much mess! Will definitely make again!
Chicken and artichokes? Looks fancy but too complicated for me. 🤷♂️
This Chicken Italiano is a game changer! My family loved it, especially with that wine sauce. Will make again for sure!
This sounds delicious—briny capers + tangy lemon juice with a white-wine sauce is such a good combo. I’d definitely serve it with angel hair like you suggested.
Quick and easy to make! But really who has angel hair pasta in their home? 😂 Used regular instead.
I totally get that! Angel hair pasta is kinda fancy for a lot of us. Regular pasta works just fine! 😄
Too many capers for my taste! But overall not bad.
I thought this was gonna taste fancy but it was just bland. Maybe need more spices? Idk.
I totally get that! Maybe try adding some garlic powder or Italian seasoning next time. It can really boost the flavor! 🍝
Bland? Really? I thought this was super tasty. Maybe you just don’t like the ingredients? 🤷♂️
I made this for dinner, but forgot the wine… Still tasted okay. Next time I’ll remember!
Wine or no wine, it sounds delicious! Glad you still liked it.
This was delicious! The artichoke hearts really made it pop. Will definitely make again!
Too many capers! I think they overpowered the dish. Maybe cut down on those?
Chicken and artichokes? Who knew they were good together. I didn’t, but I do now!
Chicken and artichokes? Idk if I trust that. Sounds weird to me…
I can’t believe I never thought of this combo! Gonna try it this weekend!
YUM! My kids loved it! They usually don’t like anything with capers, but they devoured this. Thanks!
This seems complicated, are there any shortcuts? I just want a quick meal. Maybe less frying?
Too many steps! I got confused with the breading part. But it turned out decent.
This was pretty good, but I had to adjust the timing. Mine didn’t get “almost cooked” in the browning step, so I ended up simmering longer. Sauce is tasty though—capers really pop.
Hmm maybe I’m missing something. The instructions say brown until almost cooked, then simmer covered… but chicken can overcook fast that way. I feel like there’s not enough detail on heat level or time. Your comment helped though—guess I’ll just watch the chicken closelier next time.
Glad you said that about the browning step—mine never “almost cooked” either. I think our pans run hotter/cooler. Still, the capers + lemon vibe is really good. Did you reduce the sauce at all while simmering?
I followed it pretty much exactly and it came out a little bland. Next time I’ll add more pepper and maybe a pinch of garlic powder. Still not bad!
Pretty good, but I’m not sure about the diagonal cut in 1/4-inch pieces… I ended up with random sizes. Still worked, just not as evenly cooked. Sauce helped a lot.
Yeah I get that—1/4-inch diagonal sounds neat on paper, but chicken never cooperates. I usually just aim for thin-ish and similar thickness rather than exact squares. Glad the sauce saved it though!
I tried this without the wine and it still turned out great! Will make again.
This was delicious! I loved the flavor of the artichokes with the chicken. Will definitely make again!
Not enough ingredients! I had to make a store run halfway thru. Shoulda just ordered pizza instead.
Pretty solid idea, but the recipe skips a couple details. Like, how much salt are we talking in the breadcrumb mix? Also, “2 cans” of artichoke hearts wasn’t specified as drained, so I guess I drained them. Still good though.
Yeah I agree—salt amount in the breadcrumb mix is super vague. I usually go with like 1/2 tsp salt plus a few grinds of pepper, but it would be nice if the recipe said it outright.
I drained mine too, but honestly it probably doesn’t matter too much. Those artichokes hold water—could thin the sauce. Next time I’ll drain and maybe squeeze lightly.
Wow, this is like a restaurant meal! I made it for my girlfriend and she was so happy. Thanks!
Why is there no salt in the ingredients list but it says “mix breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper”? I guessed and it turned out okay, but that part is confusing.
Chicken Italiano? More like Chicken ‘Nothanks.’ Never making this again.
Ugh, I totally get you. I followed the recipe and my chicken turned out super soggy. Might be better off with a pizza! 🍕
I really enjoyed this recipe! The flavors were awesome and paired well with pasta. Maybe give it another try? Just saying! 😊
Eh, it was alright. The chicken could’ve been more flavorful. Needs more spices.
Nah, I thought it was fine! The artichokes and capers give it a unique taste. Maybe you’re just not used to Italian flavors? 🤷♂️
I totally agree with you! It could use more spices for sure. I add garlic powder and Italian seasoning which really brings it to life! 😊
This tastes like restaurant chicken. I served it with angel hair and it was perfect. Also, I like that the sauce finishes cooking the chicken instead of drying it out—nice technique.
YUM! This is a total winner! My family devoured it. Will make it this weekend again! 😊
Yummy! 🤤 Easy to follow and my whole family enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!
Chicken Italiano? More like Chicken “Pretty Good” 😅 Not bad, but I’d cut the chicken thicker and maybe add some Parmesan on top. Would do again for sure.
So I made this but forgot to add the capers… it was still ok but next time I’ll follow the recipe better.
Wasn’t sure about the wine in it, but it turned out surprisingly good. My hubby loved it.
I was skeptical about the wine too, but it really brings out the flavor! Glad you liked it!
Meh, I burnt the chicken! Instruction 8 needs more time. Not sure if I should try again.
Don’t give up! Everyone burns a dish from time to time. Maybe next time you could lower the heat a bit to avoid burning.
Loved the crunch from the breadcrumbs! But where’s the garlic? I feel like it was missing something!
I messed up and added too much lemon juice. Way too tangy! Next time I’ll follow the recipe better. Sigh.
Too much work to make for dinner. Just fry the chicken and call it a day. There are easier recipes.
Followed the directions but it was confusing at parts. Should’ve included more details.
I think the recipe needs more seasoning. It was kinda bland for me. Maybe try adding more spices?
Absolutely fantastic! The artichokes really made this pop! 🥳
Chicken cooked in wine and artichokes is kinda fancy for a weeknight, ngl. The breading steps are a little fussy though—worth it if you don’t mind the mess.
This turned out really tasty—crispy breading on the outside but still juicy inside. The lemon juice + capers give it that bright, “Italian restaurant” vibe. I served it with angel hair and it was a hit.
Not gonna lie, I struggled with the crispy part. Mine got a little soggy after simmering. Next time I’ll brown it less? Also I used lemon zest instead of juice and it was… fine? lol.
Yes!! I love that lemon + capers combo. My kitchen smelled like an Italian place too—my family asked for seconds.
I dunno, seems complicated. Why not just grill the chicken? Less mess, I say.
Pretty good but I think it needs more sauce. I used 1/2 cup wine like the recipe and after simmering it felt a bit dry, so next time I’ll add extra wine or some chicken broth.
I’m skeptical about the “1/4-inch pieces” part—chicken breast gets overcooked fast. Also, your instruction says coat with flour but your ingredient list has no salt; I would tweak that and watch cooking time.
I don’t know about this one. The wine made it taste weird. I guess it might be an acquired taste? 🤷♂️
Loved the combo of white wine + capers + artichokes. I served it with angel hair and it felt like restaurant food. Would absolutely make again.
I tried this once but I think I messed up step 1—diagonal pieces turned out kinda thick. Also, do you use fresh capers or jar ones? Mine were pretty salty so I had to go light on extra seasoning.
Yes!! That combo is so legit—white wine with capers and artichokes tastes fancy even with simple ingredients. Glad it turned out restaurant-style for you!
This was delicious! I added some garlic and it was a hit at dinner. My family loved it. Will definitely make again!
Sounds amazing! I’m glad your family loved it! Garlic is a great addition. I’m definitely trying that next time.
This was surprisingly tasty! The lemon + capers combo really makes it pop, and the breadcrumb coating stayed crispy even after simmering. I served it over angel hair and it felt very “Italian restaurant” at home.
Yes!! Lemon + capers is such an underrated combo. Glad the breadcrumb stayed crunchy too—mine usually gets soggy, so this is giving me hope 😄
I tried this but I think I did something off—my coating didn’t stay crispy after simmering. Also I used too much lemon juice and it was kind of sour. Still decent though, will try again with less lemon.
This was super easy to make and tasted great! My family loved it. Will definitely make again!
The artichoke hearts were a game changer! So tasty! 😍
I totally agree! The artichoke hearts really add a unique flavor. I might have to try this with some olives next time! 😋
Artichoke hearts? Really? I’ve never been a fan of those. Wouldn’t regular ol’ canned peas work just as well? 🤔
Why 1/4-inch pieces after cutting chicken breasts in half lengthwise? That part confused me, and I probably cut them thicker. Also I didn’t have white wine so I used chicken stock—still decent, but not the same vibe.
Yum!! I’m gonna try this for my potluck. I bet everyone will love it! 👏
This sounds amazing! Can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions! 🍽️
Eh, it was okay. I thought it would be more tasty based on the ingredients but it was just so-so.
I followed the recipe but the chicken was so dry. What did I do wrong?
Not sure if I did something wrong but mine turned out way too greasy. The chicken was swimming in oil!
