Dixie Pie

August 12, 2024

Dixie Pie is a beloved Southern dessert known for its rich filling and buttery crust. But what happens when you pair this sweet treat with savory Sloppy Joe sauce and crispy fries? You get a fun and indulgent meal that combines the best of both worlds – sweet and savory, hearty and comforting.

Sloppy Joe sauce brings a savory punch to the dish. Made with ground beef, onions, tomatoes, and spices like garlic and paprika, the sauce is hearty and satisfying. It’s rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of tanginess and sweetness, which contrasts beautifully with the richness of the Dixie Pie. When spooned over the Dixie pie or served alongside it, the Sloppy Joe sauce adds an unexpected kick that elevates the sweetness of the dessert in a surprising way.

To round out this indulgent meal, add a side of crispy fries. The fries provide the perfect crunchy contrast to the softness of the pie and the sauciness of the Sloppy Joe topping. You can opt for classic golden fries or seasoned ones for a little extra flavor. Either way, they make the meal complete and add an extra layer of satisfaction.

Dixie Pie with Sloppy Joe sauce is not your typical meal, but it’s a fun and exciting way to mix two comfort food favorites. Perfect for those who enjoy sweet and savory combinations, this dish offers a little bit of everything – comfort, creativity, and bold flavor in every bite.

This recipe is a lifesaver! Quick and easy for busy nights. Love it! 😍

Not gonna lie, I thought “Dixie Pie” would be more like actual pie dough 😅 but this is still a clever casserole vibe.

  3. User avatar annice.ritchie19 says:

    3 stars
400°F seems right for fries, but the directions are missing a lot. Like… how long do you bake it and when does everything get layered?

  4. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    3 stars
I followed the idea but my fries were a bit soggy. Maybe I should’ve baked them longer first? Still tasted good though.

    1. User avatar Jae Nikolaus says:

      5 stars
Yeah, if they came out soggy I’d try baking the fries a little longer (or even par-baking them) before adding them to the oven again. Frozen fries usually need extra time to crisp up at 400°F.

  5. User avatar julio.stracke says:

    2 stars
What kinda pie is this? Ain’t no crust! Just meat and fries! LOL

  6. User avatar Jerold Pfannerstill says:

    2 stars
Meh. I think it needs more seasoning or something, didn’t taste right.

  7. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
Why would you use frozen fries? Fresh would be way better. 🤔

    1. 4 stars
I think frozen fries are just so much easier and still taste good! Who has time to cut fresh ones all the time?

  8. User avatar esteban.donnelly85 says:

    3 stars
Great idea, but I’m just wondering if I can use chicken instead of beef? I’ve got some leftover roasted chicken.

  9. User avatar Galaxia Woonbeam says:

    3 stars
The ingredients list is missing a whole step or two… like how long to bake and what temperature after. Still, I like the idea a lot.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah I had the same thought—missing the actual baking time/steps. But once you fill in the blanks, the concept sounds tasty. What temp did you end up using?

  10. 2 stars
No instructions after preheating?? lol. You gotta finish the steps, friend. I can guess but still—this is incomplete.

  11. 2 stars
Looks easy. 2.5 stars cuz instructions are missing part. But the concept is good.

  12. User avatar corazon.zboncak80 says:

    3 stars
Do I need to cook the beef first??? I’m confused.

  13. User avatar kurt.torphy64 says:

    3 stars
Sounds good, but not sure about the fries in a pie… is that really a thing?

  14. User avatar margy.dickinson1954 says:

    2 stars
Not a fan of Sloppy Joe sauce, do they have alternatives? 🤔

  15. User avatar ailene.bergnaum says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, the ingredient list is weird. “1 Sloppy Joe sauce”… like which brand? Also, do you season the beef first or just salt/pepper at the end?

    1. User avatar boyd.kling says:

      4 stars
Yeah the “1 Sloppy Joe sauce” is definitely vague 😅 I usually just grab any store-bought Sloppy Joe mix/sauce and use ~1 can/jar (whatever the package says) to coat the meat. Season the beef with salt/pepper first, then taste after it’s simmered—add a bit more if needed.

    2. User avatar Dr. Franklin Collier says:

      2 stars
Kinda confused too. Why not just say “1 can”? And the instructions are missing the whole cooking part 😬 I’d probably salt the beef before baking, but if you’re just throwing fries in with raw meat it won’t come out right.

  16. User avatar evita.keebler says:

    5 stars
This was surprisingly good! The fries were the perfect topping!

  17. User avatar van.rippin97 says:

    3 stars
This doesn’t seem like a pie! More like a casserole with fries. But it’s still tasty.

  18. User avatar kraig.hodkiewicz2006 says:

    1 star
Not worth the hype! My pie fell apart and tasted bland. Never making this again.

  19. User avatar Leeanne Hand says:

    5 stars
My kids loved it! Easy to make and they didn’t even complain about the veggies! 👍

  20. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    5 stars
So easy to make! My kids loved it! Will definitely be making it again. 😊

    1. User avatar columbus.streich44 says:

      3 stars
Really? I found it a bit bland. Maybe I should add more spices next time?

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome! Happy to hear your kids enjoyed it. This recipe is a hit for families! 🍽️

  21. User avatar pablo.pfannerstill1984 says:

No way I’m using Sloppy Joe sauce! I’ll stick with good ol’ tomato sauce. 😠

    1. User avatar jesica.conn says:

      4 stars
I get it, but Sloppy Joe sauce adds a unique flavor! Give it a try before saying no. 😊

  22. 4 stars
Never heard of Dixie Pie, but I’m tempted. Frozen fries in the oven usually come out kinda crispy, so I’m expecting the bottom to have a nice crunch.

  23. User avatar nadine.huels82 says:

    2 stars
Is it really a pie if there’s no crust? Feels like a casserole to me. Just saying.

  24. User avatar Flame Atronach says:

    4 stars
I made this last night, and it was kinda simple but worked fine for my lazy cooking day.

  25. User avatar yvette.berge1997 says:

    4 stars
This feels like Sloppy Joe meets tater tot casserole—I’m not mad at it. I’d add a little garlic though. Also, that parsley garnish is cute.

    1. User avatar willie.langosh says:

      3 stars
Not sure about the frozen fries part… they might get soggy in the sauce? Maybe par-cook them first? But hey, if it tastes good, who cares. Also parsley is kinda pointless lol.

    2. User avatar dane.stiedemann says:

      5 stars
Honestly, that description is spot on 😂. Sloppy Joe + tater tots is such a comfort-food move. I usually add a minced garlic clove with the onion/bell pepper—totally boosts it.

  26. 3 stars
400°F seems a bit high if the fries are already cooked? I’d keep an eye on it so it doesn’t get too crispy/burny.

  27. User avatar Dr. Toni Schuppe says:

    5 stars
    Yummy! 😋

  28. User avatar Humma Kavula says:

    3 stars
The beef was too greasy for my taste. Thought it could’ve been better.

  29. 5 stars
Made this for dinner and it was a hit! Will definitely make again!

  30. User avatar frederick.kunze25 says:

    5 stars
Wow, this reminds me of my grandma’s recipe! Sure brings back memories. 🥰

  31. User avatar donna.waelchi says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I added extra bell pepper and a little garlic powder and it turned out better than I expected. Would make again for game night.

  32. User avatar naoma.denesik34 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have frozen fries, so I used fresh ones, and it was fine. But how do I make it pie-like?

  33. 3 stars
Oh wow, 1 lb ground beef and a whole bag of fries? That’s a lot of carbs for one dish… but I’ll probably do it anyway.

  34. User avatar sondra.leannon2 says:

    5 stars
5 stars!!! This has become a family favorite. I’ll be making it weekly! 👍🏼

  35. User avatar mackenzie.jaskolski53 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know… using frozen fries seems kinda lazy. Can I use real potatoes instead?

  36. 5 stars
This was a hit at our family dinner! So easy to make and everyone loved it!

  37. 1 star
Ain’t nobody got time for this. Just call it Sloppy Joe Fries, lol.

  38. User avatar scottie.thompson1998 says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but kinda bland. More seasoning next time!

    1. 4 stars
I totally get what you mean! It needs a little kick, some chili powder might help! 🌶️

  39. 2 stars
Why the parsley optional? My grandma says no green stuff on brown food, lol. But I guess it looks nice.

  40. User avatar kathy.jacobi65 says:

    3 stars
Only issue: the instructions are basically missing. It says step 2 but there’s no step 1 or how long to bake it, lol. Still, the combo (beef + fries + Sloppy Joe sauce) sounds tasty.

    1. 3 stars
Ugh you’re totally right 😅 I noticed that too—there’s clearly supposed to be a step 1 (and the bake time). I’d still try it by preheating to 400°F and following the usual idea for baked fries + beef/sauce, but yeah… the directions are missing key info.

  41. 5 stars
I used tater tots instead of fries and it was fantastic!

  42. 3 stars
I made something like this before and it turned out soggy if you don’t bake the fries properly. Make sure they get crispy first or it’ll be a sad pie.

  43. User avatar anja.tillman2 says:

    4 stars
Super quick during a busy week. Even my picky husband ate it without complaints.

    1. User avatar armanda.waters says:

      5 stars
Glad to hear your husband enjoyed it! My kids are super picky too, so I might just give this a try!

  44. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    4 stars
Yum! My kids gobbled it up. Easy dinner for the win! I added some cheese on top because why not?

    1. User avatar marth.marks27 says:

      2 stars
Really? This doesn’t look too healthy for kids. Too much meat and fries!

    2. User avatar rosita.koelpin8 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Cheese makes everything better. What kind did you use?

  45. 4 stars
I made this but used chicken instead of beef. Still turned out yummy! 😋

  46. 2 stars
Too many onions for my liking, next time I’ll skip them.

  47. User avatar king.schmitt1970 says:

    3 stars
Wasn’t that great. The flavors didn’t mix well, and I think it needs more spices.

  48. User avatar kelvin.roob67 says:

    2 stars
Just made it, but my oven must be broken. The fries didn’t cook right! Disappointing.

  49. 3 stars
Easy to make but it looked a mess. Taste was okay, I guess.

  50. 5 stars
Fries and beef? YES PLEASE! Making this again for the weekend BBQ! 😋

    1. User avatar omar.fritsch says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love adding more cheese on top for extra flavor. Enjoy your BBQ! 🧀

  51. User avatar Ms. Tanner Stamm says:

    3 stars
Isn’t this just a fancy way of making a casserole? I’m not impressed.

    1. 4 stars
I mean, it might have casserole vibes, but it’s got that Sloppy Joe twist, which is kinda cool! Give it a shot! 🍽️

    2. User avatar lakeesha.jacobson says:

      3 stars
Nah, I think it’s a bit different! Casseroles usually bake all together, but this one’s more like a loaded fries kinda dish. Sounds fun!

  52. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    5 stars
This sounds like comfort food with basically zero effort—throw it in the oven and hope for the best 😄. I’d add some cheese on top near the end though.

  53. 4 stars
Dixie Pie? Sounds weird but tasted good. My grandma would be proud.

  54. User avatar shawn.ohara1967 says:

    4 stars
I made something similar and it was actually pretty good. The frozen fries keep it from getting soggy if you spread everything out. Onion + pepper is a solid move.

  55. User avatar cornelia.schmeler says:

    5 stars
This Dixie Pie was a hit at our family gathering! Everyone loved it and it was so easy to make!

    1. 5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! Dixie Pie sounds delicious and perfect for a family gathering. Great job!

    2. User avatar leatha.hettinger2007 says:

      2 stars
Looks easy, but really? Ground beef and fries? Sounds more like a casserole than a pie! Not sure about this one.

  56. 4 stars
I’ve never made anything like this! Do you think I could use tater tots instead of fries?

  57. User avatar laurice.murazik says:

    2 stars
Not sure about this one. Sloppy Joe sauce and fries? Sounds kinda weird to me.

  58. 4 stars
Never heard of Dixie Pie but it reminds me of a casserole vibe. Beef + fries is weirdly genius. Would probably sprinkle cheese on top.

  59. User avatar wellRespected says:

    5 stars
Dixie Pie? More like Fixin’ to eat! This is a winner in our house. Thanks for sharing!

  60. 2 stars
I’m a little confused—your instructions only say “Preheat the oven” and stop. Like… do you bake it assembled? Cover it? How long?

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      2 stars
Yeah, I was confused too—looks like the rest of the steps got cut off. I’d guess you assemble it first (mix beef/onion/pepper with sauce, then top with fries) and bake uncovered at 400°F until bubbly and the fries crisp… but the timing would really depend on thickness.

  61. 5 stars
Never thought of using fries in a pie! This was surprisingly good! 😋

    1. 5 stars
Wow, that sounds interesting! I would have never thought about putting fries in a pie either. Gonna give it a try!

  62. 1 star
I dunno about the people loving this. Seems like a cheap way to make a dinner. Like, why not just stick to real pie?

  63. User avatar ailene.leannon17 says:

    2 stars
I tried this and it was just too much going on. The flavors didn’t blend well for me. Very disappointing.

  64. 4 stars
Sounds like a fun casserole/pie mashup. Dixie Pie is kinda catchy. I’d use diced tomatoes in the mix if you’ve got them.

  65. User avatar dorsey.haag says:

    3 stars
I’m confused though—your instructions only say to preheat the oven. Do you bake the fries first or layer everything straight in? Still, the idea is solid.

    1. User avatar Mystic Gohan says:

      5 stars
Good question! I’d do the fries first—spread the frozen Ore-Ida fries on a baking sheet and bake a bit (like 15–20 min) so they start crisping, then add the beef/onion/pepper and finish baking. Otherwise they can come out a little soggy under the sauce.

    2. User avatar candis.prosacco53 says:

      3 stars
Honestly the instructions look super incomplete 😅 I’d just layer it all in right away and bake at 400 until hot and bubbly. That’s how I do “pies” anyway. If they’re too watery, next time pre-cook the fries a little.

  66. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

    4 stars
Ground beef already has flavor, but I think one onion and pepper might not be enough. Add some chili powder or Worcestershire if you want more depth.

    1. User avatar byron.stark31 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—when it’s just onion + pepper it can taste a little flat to me. A little chili powder and Worcestershire sounds perfect for that deeper flavor. I’ll try it next time.

  67. User avatar rod.barrows35 says:

    4 stars
Looks good! Hope it turns out. 1 lb beef is plenty.

  68. User avatar King of Red Lions says:

    5 stars
Absolutely making this. I’m adding extra onion and maybe some cheddar on top because why not.

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      5 stars
That sounds dangerously good 😄 Extra onion + cheddar on top is the move. This recipe already feels like comfort food heaven.

    2. User avatar hung.rohan92 says:

      3 stars
Wait, where’s the rest of the instructions? lol Also I’m not sure cheddar would work with sloppy joe but hey if it melts good then ok.

  69. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

    3 stars
Eh, it was ok. I expected more flavor from the Sloppy Joe sauce. Might try adding some spices next time.

  70. User avatar Loonquawl says:

    5 stars
This sounds like the perfect “easy comfort food” situation. Ground beef + fries in the oven? Yes please. I might add a little garlic and cheese on top for extra happiness.

  71. User avatar franklyn.cartwright says:

    3 stars
This dosent look like pie. More like some beef with fries. Haha. 🤷‍♂️

  72. User avatar noe.klein66 says:

Y’all, this is a quick meal for a busy weeknight! Made it last night and it was a hit!

  73. User avatar Dr. Jeannine Schaden says:

Totally gross! How is this considered food? I wouldn’t serve it to my dog.

    1. User avatar hershel.marvin says:

      5 stars
I actually love Dixie Pie! It’s a comfort food classic! Don’t knock it till you try it. 😋

    2. User avatar su.schumm10 says:

      2 stars
This sounds like a weird combo. Who even puts fries in a pie? 🤨

  74. User avatar arline.deckow34 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think it could use some garlic or cheese for extra flavor.

    1. 2 stars
Garlic? Really? Seems kinda weird for a pie. But hey, if you like it, go for it!

    2. User avatar brice.bins59 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Garlic makes everything better, especially in beef dishes. I’ll have to try adding it next time.

  75. User avatar Ryan Shenlong says:

    3 stars
Seems like a good idea but where’s the veggies? I’d add more then just pepper.

  76. User avatar lucius.rolfson1962 says:

    5 stars
This is so good! I added cheese on top and it was amazing. Thank you!

  77. 5 stars
I tried something similar and it was amazing. Make sure you season the beef before mixing—salt is everything.

  78. 4 stars
Tastes so good! Added cheese on top, and it was a hit with the kids!

    1. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

      3 stars
Yea, but isn’t that a bit unhealthy? I prefer to keep it simple without adding too much junk. Just me, I guess.

    2. 5 stars
Cheese on top? That’s a great idea! I’d never thought about it. My kids are picky eaters, so I might try that next time.

  79. User avatar hildegard.dach says:

Recipe seems pretty simple, but it wasn’t filling at all. Disappointed.

    1. User avatar Sam Urai says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! I’ve made it too and it wasn’t as hearty as I hoped. Maybe add some beans for extra fillingness next time?

    2. 3 stars
Uhm, I thought it was pretty good. Just eat more of it, man! 😂

  80. User avatar jules.mann1989 says:

    5 stars
This looks interesting! Can’t wait to try it out! I love anything with beef and fries!

    1. 5 stars
Oh, you’ll love it! The beef and fries combo is unbeatable. Just make sure not to overcook the fries!

  81. User avatar Spriggan says:

    2 stars
Garlic would make this better. Salt and pepper “to taste” is a cop-out—use a measurement 😂

    1. User avatar Dr. Alejandro Turcotte says:

      5 stars
Honestly, garlic would absolutely help—this combo needs a little punch. Also fair point on the salt/pepper; I usually eyeball it too, but “to taste” can sound lazy 😅

  82. User avatar reiko.wilkinson91 says:

    2 stars
I dunno, it felt a bit weird to mix fries with a pie. Didn’t taste like pie to me.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get it! Mixing fries and pie is definitely unusual, but I think it adds a fun twist. I love trying new things!

  83. User avatar Raina Buckridge says:

    5 stars
Must try this for the holidays! A family feast coming up!

  84. User avatar lakiesha.bergnaum28 says:

    3 stars
Question: does “Sloppy Joe sauce” mean a jarred one? And how long do you bake it—because the instructions just stop after preheating? 😅

  85. User avatar laurena.medhurst23 says:

    5 stars
This Dixie Pie is a game changer! So easy to make and my kids loved it!

  86. User avatar vernie.braun2011 says:

Looks tasty. Dixie Pie? lol. If you tell me the bake time I’ll try it.

  87. User avatar Loonquawl says:

    3 stars
I made something similar once and it turned out good, but I overcooked the fries. I hope this doesn’t dry out because sloppy joe sauce can be thick.

  88. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, ground beef and frozen fries is kinda lazy. If it tastes good though, fine.

    1. User avatar joann.stroman28 says:

      3 stars
Lazy? maybe. But frozen fries in a pie?? I feel like that’ll get soggy unless you bake it longer. Still, I’d try it with more seasoning and maybe extra onions.

    2. User avatar Deep Thought says:

      4 stars
Honestly I don’t mind “lazy” if it’s tasty. The onion + green pepper probably do most of the heavy lifting here. 🤷‍♂️

  89. 5 stars
I added cheese on top before baking. Just wow! Made it so much better! 🧀

  90. User avatar mittie.mraz75 says:

Meat lover’s dream? More like a meat lover’s nightmare if you ask me! No veggies means no nutrients!

  95. 2 stars
I’m skeptical about putting fries in the oven with beef and sauce. Are they gonna come out soggy? If you cook them first, maybe it works.

    1. User avatar francesco.hermann1965 says:

      2 stars
Soggy city 😬 If you don’t pre-cook the fries or keep the sauce amount low, they’ll go mushy. I’d par-bake them first, then add beef/sauce.

    2. User avatar lucius.howe73 says:

      4 stars
I was worried too, but at 400°F the fries usually crisp up. Just make sure they’re not swimming in sauce—more like a light layer, not dunked.

  96. User avatar Falmer Spellsword says:

    4 stars
My grandma would’ve called this “throw it in and hope,” lol. Ground beef + fries + sauce is a vibe. I’d probably season more than “salt and pepper to taste.”

  97. User avatar ian.little98 says:

    3 stars
I don’t get why it’s called pie—no crust, just meat and fries. But hey, names don’t cook for you.

  98. 3 stars
The ingredient list feels a little loose. Like, how much Sloppy Joe sauce are we talking? A whole can? I guess I’ll just eye it next time.

    1. 4 stars
Good question—when recipes say “Sloppy Joe sauce” without a measurement, it’s usually one standard can/jar. I’d start with about 1 can and adjust if it looks dry.

    2. User avatar bell.hyatt2001 says:

      3 stars
I always just pour it in until it “looks right.” Probably a whole can-ish? Idk why they don’t say. Still tastes good tho.

I love anything that turns frozen fries into a casserole—this sounds like comfort food with very little effort. Preheating to 400°F is the right move.

  100. 4 stars
Sloppy Joe sauce + ground beef + fries = weirdly perfect comfort food. I’d add a little cheese though.

  101. 4 stars
Yummy! I used tater tots instead of fries and it came out great!

“Dixie Pie” sounds fancy but it’s just Sloppy Joe casserole with fries lol. Still gonna try it.

Yummy! I added some extra veggies and it turned out great!

Veggies in a pie? I dunno, that sounds kinda weird to me.

    2. User avatar Jody Walker says:

Sounds delicious! I love adding extra veggies too. Makes it healthier!

  104. User avatar torrie.lakin says:

Dixie Pie?? Is that a real thing? I thought it was just a joke.

  105. User avatar Sue Permann says:

    2 stars
400°F seems low? I feel like fries need more time at 425 or they come out sad. Also 1 lb beef is a lot for one bag—depends how thick you build it.

  106. 4 stars
Yum! My kids loved it. I added some cheese on top and it was a hit!

    1. User avatar narcisa.bruen2018 says:

Glad your kids liked it! Cheese on top sounds delicious! 😋

Only “2. Preheat the oven…” is listed in the instructions though 😅 What’s the bake time and when do you mix the filling? Still, the idea is solid.

  108. User avatar hans.macejkovic says:

    5 stars
My picky eater would demolish this. The onion and bell pepper help it not taste like plain sloppy joes. Great weeknight meal.

  109. 2 stars
Isn’t this just a casserole? Where’s the pie part? 🤔

  110. User avatar krista.farrell3 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, “Dixie Pie” is a cute name but I’m skeptical it’ll hold together like a pie. Still, I’d try it with a little extra salt and pepper.

  111. User avatar ashely.fahey47 says:

    2 stars
Can we get more instructions? It only says preheat. Like… then what, do you mix everything or layer it?

    1. User avatar cecille.veum says:

      4 stars
Totally fair question! The basic idea is: layer the fries + beef/onion/pepper, then pour the Sloppy Joe sauce over and bake. It’s like a skillet Sloppy Joe, but in the oven with fries.

    2. User avatar carri.crona says:

      2 stars
Uh… it says only preheat so I’m guessing you just dump it all in a pan and hope? 😅 Mix? Layer? Either way, add salt/pepper and bake until the fries are done.

  112. 3 stars
I didn’t know what Sloppy Joe sauce was. Had to look it up lol! 😂

  113. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

My kids devoured it! Will definitely make again for a quick weeknight dinner.

    2. Preheat to 400 and then nothing else. I can’t rate the cooking part. The concept is good, but instructions need work.

I think the ingredient list is missing amounts for the Sloppy Joe sauce. Like… how much is a “Sloppy Joe sauce” and how many pounds of fries are in the bag? Maybe I’m just too specific.

    1. User avatar salvatore.koch9 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, I get what you mean. “1 Sloppy Joe sauce” is pretty vague—like brand/size matters a lot. I’d probably use the standard can/jar amount and call it a day.

  117. User avatar ileana.murphy15 says:

    3 stars
Ok but the formatting is off. It says “Sloppy Joe sauce” like it’s one ingredient and then “Salt and pepper to taste” and that’s it. I need more directions lol.

  118. 2 stars
I really wanted to like this recipe, but the Sloppy Joe sauce was too sweet for my taste.

  119. 4 stars
Looks easy. Would make again. Pretty much the whole point is dinner without stress.

  120. User avatar karlyn.quitzon says:

Not gonna lie, sloppy joe sauce with fries is weird but also… I bet it slaps. Gonna try it once and see if my family judges me (they will).

  121. User avatar Chi Shenlong says:

My oven always runs hot. If you don’t watch it, the fries will burn before the beef is even warmed through. Maybe cover with foil?

    1. 5 stars
Good idea—foil could help. I’d also try lowering the oven to 375°F and giving the beef/sauce a little longer so the fries don’t end up crispy before everything’s hot.

    2. 3 stars
My oven runs hot too… but I’d be careful with foil, it makes everything kinda soggy in my experience. Maybe just stir/flip the fries halfway and keep an eye on time.

  122. User avatar alfred.walter says:

    5 stars
These flavors sound like comfort food overload—ground beef + fries + Sloppy Joe sauce is such a good combo. I’m already imagining it bubbling out of the oven.

  123. 4 stars
400°F is a good temp. I’d probably toss the chopped veggies in with the beef until the onion’s soft. Then layer fries and sauce. Sounds like it could be tasty!

  124. 4 stars
I’d swap the Sloppy Joe sauce for homemade if I had time. But for weeknights, the bag sauce is totally fine.

    1. User avatar orville.pfannerstill20 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—homemade would be great, but weeknights gotta be realistic. 😄 The bag sauce still works!

  125. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

Ground beef, onion, green pepper, and Sloppy Joe sauce on top of fries? That’s dangerously close to my kind of meal. I’d probably add a little cheese too.

  126. User avatar cassy.fahey says:

    4 stars
Okay but parsley optional? lol. I’ll skip it. Overall sounds decent.

  127. 3 stars
Okay but why is it called Dixie Pie? Is it actually a pie or just a casserole? I mean, it still looks tasty.

  128. 5 stars
This sounds like a fun, no-fuss comfort food. I like that it uses frozen fries—less prep time for me. Can’t wait to try it!

  129. User avatar Twisted Fate says:

This is such a budget-friendly idea. I’m imagining leftovers for lunch tomorrow—hope the flavors blend well.

    1. User avatar gerardo.bartoletti7 says:

      5 stars
Yes! The flavors should definitely come together the next day—stuff like this always tastes better once it’s sat a bit. I’d just reheat it in the oven so the fries stay crispy.

  130. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about how “pie” it really is, but the flavors sound solid. Ground beef + bell pepper is always a win in my book.

    1. User avatar kizzie.mckenzie17 says:

      4 stars
Yeah I get the “Dixie Pie” name—might not be a traditional pie, but the combo of fries + beef + peppers is definitely satisfying. If you brown the beef well and season it, you can’t really go wrong.

  131. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the frozen fries staying crispy in the oven at 400. Could come out soggy unless you do something clever. Anyone try it and get good texture?

    1. User avatar viki.reichert25 says:

      2 stars
Uhh I dunno, 400 seems too low if it’s gonna be with sloppy joe sauce vibes. My fries always come out limp like microwave leftovers. Maybe bake longer? Or use air fryer??

    2. User avatar Magrathean sperm whale says:

      4 stars
I’ve done frozen fries at 400 before and yeah—plain oven fries can get soggy if they’re piled up. I’d spread them out on a hot baking sheet and maybe run them 5-10 min first before adding anything saucy. If the sauce’s going in after, they might hold up better.

  132. User avatar antone.schumm says:

    4 stars
Wait, is this basically a casserole? Because if so, I’m here for it. Also 400°F seems perfect for getting the fries crisp.

  133. User avatar dennis.beatty76 says:

    5 stars
400°F and throwing in frozen fries? Honestly sounds like the kind of easy dinner that saves my life on busy nights.

    1. User avatar shawn.hirthe says:

      5 stars
Yes! 400°F and frozen fries is the perfect “just get dinner done” move. Love a sloppy joe-style bake like this—minimal effort, big comfort.

    2. 3 stars
Wait… just toss the frozen fries in and call it a day? Wouldn’t they come out undercooked? I think you’d need to cook them a bit first. Still, sounds good if the timing’s right.

  134. User avatar Spriggan Earth Mother says:

    4 stars
I like the idea, but what size is the “bag” of fries? Ore-Ida has different weights—could change the whole bake time.

    1. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      2 stars
Wait what? Mine says 16 oz for the fries… so if I just dump it in, will it be all soggy or raw? I hate guessing bake times 😬

    2. User avatar tyesha.heller says:

      4 stars
Good catch! I’d use whatever standard Ore-Ida “bag” size you have—usually 32 oz. I’d start checking at about 20–25 minutes if yours is smaller/larger since bake time can shift.

  135. User avatar dwight.romaguera says:

    3 stars
I tried something like this once and the peppers got kinda watery. Next time I’d sauté them first.

  136. User avatar Elder Kai says:

    5 stars
This sounds like comfort food with minimal effort. Oven at 400°F is perfect for crisping those fries, and I love anything with sloppy joe sauce.

  137. 3 stars
I tried something similar but my fries got soggy. Maybe you should cook the onions/pepper first and then layer everything so it doesn’t steam.

  138. User avatar janise.gulgowski2012 says:

I don’t get the purpose of putting fries in the oven with beef and sauce instead of using actual potatoes. Still, I bet it’s tasty.

    1. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

      4 stars
Honestly, I get it—using frozen fries is just an easy shortcut, and the sauce soaks in while they crisp up a bit. Not traditional potatoes, but it sounds like it would be really hearty.

  139. 5 stars
So easy! Like dump stuff in and bake. I’m lazy so this is a 5 from me. Don’t even @ me.

  140. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
I like how straightforward this is—ground beef + fries + sloppy joe sauce sounds like comfort food for real. The onion and bell pepper make it feel less “lazy casserole,” in a good way.

  141. User avatar sonny.bauch says:

    5 stars
This sounds like comfort food with zero fuss. I like that it uses frozen fries—less work, more eating. Going to try adding a little extra pepper.

  142. 2 stars
Looks kinda greasy… but okay I get it. 😅
