Chocolate Covered Strawberries

January 23, 2024

Chocolate covered strawberries are one of those rare desserts that feel both effortless and indulgent. Whether you’re planning a romantic dinner, hosting a party, or just craving something sweet, this classic treat delivers elegance with minimal effort.

The beauty of chocolate covered strawberries lies in their simplicity. Start with fresh, ripe strawberries, washed and completely dried. Any moisture can interfere with the chocolate adhering properly, so don’t skip the drying step. Choose strawberries with bright green tops and no bruises for the best presentation.

As for the chocolate, you can go classic with semi-sweet or dark chocolate, or mix things up with white or milk chocolate. Melt it slowly using a double boiler or in short bursts in the microwave, stirring often to avoid scorching. Once it’s silky smooth, it’s time to dip. Hold each strawberry by the stem or use a skewer, swirl it into the melted chocolate, and let the excess drip off before placing it on a parchment-lined tray.

Want to make them extra special? Decorate while the chocolate is still wet. Try drizzling with a contrasting chocolate color, or sprinkle with crushed nuts, coconut flakes, sea salt, or festive sprinkles. They look gorgeous and taste even better.

Once dipped, let the strawberries sit at room temperature until the chocolate sets. If you’re in a hurry, you can refrigerate them for about 15 minutes to speed up the process. Just be sure not to leave them in the fridge too long, chocolate can sometimes sweat when brought back to room temperature.

Chocolate covered strawberries are as fun to make as they are to eat. They’re perfect as gifts, party platters, or sweet snacks to enjoy after dinner. Plus, they’re naturally gluten-free and can easily be made dairy-free with vegan chocolate.

Whether you’re planning ahead or making a last-minute dessert, this treat never fails to impress. With just a few ingredients and a little creativity, chocolate covered strawberries bring a touch of luxury to everyday moments.

Easy and quick. Only thing: mine seized a little when I got water on the strawberries, so drying thoroughly is crucial.

What kind of chocolate? Dark, milk, white? So confusng!

    1. 5 stars
It’s dark chocolate in this recipe, but you could use milk or white if you prefer! Just make sure to melt it carefully.

    2. User avatar Berta Kozey says:

      3 stars
I thought it was milk choco too! But why dark? Ain’t it too bitter?

    1. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

These turned out way fancier than I expected. I used 70% dark chocolate and the set in the fridge was perfect—nice snap when you bite in!

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! The snap is the best part 😄 I’m glad 70% worked for you—mine usually comes out a little less sweet.

  35. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    4 stars
Is it possible to make them with milk chocolate? I don’t like dark choc.

  36. User avatar anthony.jaskolski says:

    2 stars
I just eat the strawberries plain…thought the chocolate was too much. 🤔

  37. User avatar armanda.cronin51 says:

    4 stars
I liked the idea, but 8 ounces for 1 pound of strawberries felt like a lot or maybe not. I had extra chocolate and dipped them super thick. Still delicious though.

    1. 5 stars
Totally get it—8 oz can feel “extra,” but it helps get those thicker, more even coats (especially if strawberries are watery). Glad yours still turned out delicious!

  38. User avatar lynette.kunze says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why everyone loves these so much. They’re just strawberries with chocolate. Kinda bland if you ask me.

    1. User avatar tonda.haag39 says:

      5 stars
I think they’re delicious! The combination of the sweet strawberries and rich chocolate is just perfect. Don’t knock it till you try it!

    2. 2 stars
Honestly, I always thought chocolate was too much for strawberries. Just seems like a lot of hype for something so simple, ya know?

These are the best chocolate covered strawberries I’ve ever made! So easy and delicious!

  40. User avatar eugenio.haley74 says:

    3 stars
Are these healthy? I’m on a diet… but strawberries are fruit, right?

  41. 3 stars
Tried it but mine didn’t harden after 10 minutes in the fridge—had to wait like 30. Still ate them anyway lol.

  42. User avatar billy.welch26 says:

    3 stars
It feels kinda weird to dip strawberries in chocolate. Like, isn’t that too much? But they turned out alright I guess.

  43. 4 stars
Super easy recipe! I’m not good in the kitchen, but even I could handle this. First time making chocolate covered strawberries and it went great!

  44. User avatar waylon.jerde65 says:

  45. User avatar Dinah Larkin says:

    5 stars
I added sprinkles on top, they turned out super cute! 🎉

  46. 5 stars
These came out so fancy for basically no effort. The chocolate set perfectly after chilling—my family kept taking “just one more.” Will definitely make again for date night.

    1. User avatar katharine.beatty81 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—these are ridiculously impressive for how easy they are. 😄 I did the same 30-second microwave melt and mine set great after a quick chill too. Date night food for sure!

  47. 5 stars
Made these for a date night and they look way fancier than the effort. Chocolate set perfectly after the fridge step.

  49. User avatar alberto.kiehn77 says:

    2 stars
Sorry but I don’t get it. Melt chocolate, dip berries, chill… sounds like something my kid could do. 😅

    1. User avatar Mr. Prosser says:

      5 stars
Haha yep—this one’s super kid-friendly. Just make sure they don’t touch the bowl when you’re melting the chocolate 😄 and dry the berries really well so it doesn’t seize!

  50. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

    4 stars
Super easy and quick! Perfect for a last-minute dessert. Thanks for the recipe!

  51. 1 star
I don’t think these are healthy at all! Strawberries are good but chocolate? That’s just wrong. Needs less sugar! lol

  52. User avatar malvina.block53 says:

    1 star
Y’all, this is just strawberries with chocolate. Is it even a recipe? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar lorenzo.walker91 says:

      5 stars
Okay, but strawberries with chocolate is a classic! Sometimes simple is best. 😋

  53. User avatar drucilla.ebert says:

    2 stars
Why parchment? I just used a plate and it kinda stuck. Lesson learned.

  54. 5 stars
These chocolate covered strawberries are so easy to make! My kids loved them! Definitely a 5-star recipe here.

  55. User avatar hong.little14 says:

Strawberries with chocolate? Boring!! Let’s get real here.

    1. User avatar ruthann.weimann says:

      3 stars
Boring? Nah, I think they’re delicious! But if you want something more exciting, try adding some toppings or spices!

    2. User avatar leanna.gorczany85 says:

      5 stars
What’s wrong with chocolate strawberries? They’re classic! You just gotta appreciate the simple things.

  56. User avatar azalee.waelchi69 says:

    2 stars
I tried this but the chocolate didn’t melt right. Maybe my microwave is too strong? Didn’t turn out as good as I hoped, 2 stars.

  57. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added some sprinkles on top after dipping. Super cute!

  58. 3 stars
My chocolate didn’t set great—stayed tacky after the fridge. Could be because I didn’t wait long enough, or my fridge is kinda weak. Otherwise it was fine.

    1. User avatar Ra'zhinda says:

      4 stars
Ugh, that’s frustrating. If it stayed tacky after 10 min, I’d guess either the chocolate didn’t fully melt/temper right, or the fridge time wasn’t enough. Did you make sure the strawberries were *really* dry? Even a little moisture can make the chocolate seize and stay weird.

  59. User avatar nigel.hyatt7 says:

    5 stars
These were a hit at my party! The chocolate was so rich and the strawberries fresh. I will definitely make these again.

  60. User avatar teodoro.larson says:

    4 stars
My kids loved helping with this. Messy but fun!

  61. User avatar long.gutkowski37 says:

    4 stars
I used milk chocolate instead of dark and it was still good, but the coating felt a bit softer. Next time I’ll stick to dark.

  62. User avatar ingeborg.stiedemann12 says:

    2 stars
Disappointing. The chocolate didn’t set for me. Didn’t know why… maybe too warm?

    1. User avatar charley.schulist56 says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! Maybe the chocolate was too hot when you dipped them? Letting it cool a bit before dipping might help. Just a thought!

  63. User avatar jani.rau1954 says:

    2 stars
The chocolate didn’t melt well for me, I must be doing something wrong… help?

    1. User avatar elroy.jacobi41 says:

      4 stars
Don’t worry! The chocolate can be tricky sometimes. Make sure the bowl is dry and don’t overheat it. Maybe try adding a little coconut oil to help it melt smoother!

    2. User avatar aaron.kutch62 says:

      5 stars
I always use a double boiler instead of the microwave. The chocolate never burns that way! Give it a try next time.

  64. 3 stars
I think I over-dipped—more like fully covered—but they looked amazing. Chocolate was slightly thick, but still delicious. Maybe use a lighter coating for a cleaner look?

  65. User avatar cesar.schaden1974 says:

    4 stars
Make sure the strawberries are really dry before dipping or the choc won’t stick!

  66. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    3 stars
Isn’t chocolate covered strawberries just for Valentine’s? Don’t you think they’re kinda overrated?

  67. 5 stars
These strawberries are amazing! I made them for my boyfriend and he loved them! Will definitely be making again.

  68. User avatar Duncan Idaho says:

    5 stars
These are amazing! I made them for my kids and they loved it!

  69. User avatar mariam.wintheiser says:

    3 stars
“Fully melted” is subjective lol. I think my microwave is underpowered. I had to add extra time and stir a ton, but they turned out okay.

  70. User avatar Saruman the White says:

    5 stars
World’s best snack, no doubt. Also, parchment paper is a must—otherwise they stick and you cry.
