Chicken Ramen

February 13, 2024

Chicken ramen is the ultimate comfort food, combining a rich, savory broth with tender chicken and perfectly cooked ramen noodles. Whether you’re craving a warm, filling meal on a chilly day or seeking a satisfying dinner, this dish is the perfect balance of flavor, texture, and heartiness.

The foundation of chicken ramen lies in the broth. A rich, savory base is created by simmering chicken bones, vegetables, and seasonings, such as soy sauce, miso, garlic, and ginger. The slow-cooked broth is packed with deep, umami-rich flavors that elevate the dish. For a shortcut, you can use store-bought chicken stock, adding seasonings and a touch of soy sauce to give it an authentic ramen taste.

The chicken is usually cooked separately, either poached or grilled, and then shredded or sliced thinly before being added to the bowl of ramen. The chicken is tender and juicy, complementing the noodles and broth beautifully. For extra flavor, the chicken can be marinated briefly in soy sauce or teriyaki sauce before cooking, adding layers of depth.

Ramen noodles are essential to the dish, offering the perfect texture to soak up the flavorful broth. Fresh ramen noodles are ideal, but dried noodles work just as well for a quicker meal. Once the noodles are cooked, they’re served in a bowl with the rich broth, topped with the sliced chicken, and garnished with toppings such as boiled eggs, green onions, spinach, or nori for an extra burst of flavor.

To customize your chicken ramen, feel free to add vegetables like mushrooms, bok choy, or corn for additional texture and freshness. A drizzle of sesame oil or a sprinkle of chili flakes can also give the dish a smoky or spicy kick.

Chicken ramen is a comforting, nourishing bowl that can be as simple or elaborate as you like. It’s a perfect meal to enjoy during colder months, but it’s delicious year-round. Warm, filling, and satisfying, chicken ramen brings the flavors of Japan to your kitchen with ease.

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 packs ramen noodles

  • Garnish each bowl with a soft-boiled egg, sliced green onions, nori strips, and sesame seeds.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

I’m skeptical about cooking the ramen noodles separately—mine always clump when you drain. But honestly it still tasted great. Could use a bit more salt though (maybe my broth was mild).

I get the clump fear 😅 I rinse mine with cold water right after draining and that helps a lot. Also yeah—your broth probably needed a pinch more salt.

I followed it pretty much exactly—except I used 2 packs of ramen because that’s what I had. Still turned out flavorful. The ginger/garlic step smelled amazing.

  3. User avatar lyndon.beatty says:

This looks *so* comforting. Soft-boiled egg on ramen is elite. I’d probably add a tiny splash of soy sauce too, but the base broth timing seems solid.

I made it and followed most of it—except I used pre-sliced garlic. Still turned out great. The ginger/garlic simmering smelled amazing.

Love hearing this! Pre-sliced garlic can be a lifesaver—glad it still came out great. The ginger/garlic step really does smell unreal.

Hmm “followed most of it” but still great… I feel like that always means the base recipe is solid. Did you use the same amount of garlic/ginger though?

YUM! This is legit better than takeout. High five for this recipe!

Wow, my family devoured this. The nori strips were a nice touch and the spinach wilted perfectly. I’ll definitely make it again for weeknights.

This was amazing! My family loved it. So flavorful and easy to make!

I don’t eat nori usually, but I tried it anyway and it actually worked. The sesame seeds + green onions make it feel restaurant-y.

The soft-boiled eggs were a bit tricky for me but I think I did it right. Still tasty!

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      4 stars
Soft-boiled eggs can be tricky for sure! I usually just boil them for 7 minutes, then in cold water. Glad yours turned out tasty!

    2. User avatar cassey.vandervort says:

      5 stars
You got the eggs right! That’s impressive. I always mess them up, haha. But this ramen looks delicious, will try it!

  10. 3 stars
I followed the steps, but it didn’t turn out like the pictures. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  11. User avatar claude.becker39 says:

The ingredient list says 4 cups broth + 2 cups water = 6 cups, but 4 packs ramen seems like it would need more liquid. Mine was a bit thick—maybe I packed the noodles too tightly?

  12. User avatar tameka.ryan73 says:

    4 stars
Chicken should be boiled longer! It was kinda rubbery for me. Not bad but could improve. 6 outta 10.

  13. User avatar allen.cassin says:

    2 stars
Meh. It was okay but way too salty for my taste. I’ll stick to my instant ramen.

    1. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

      3 stars
Instant ramen tastes better? Nah, you gotta give this a proper chance! It’s way better than those plastic packets.

    2. 4 stars
I thought it was pretty good! Just gotta watch the salt, I guess.

  14. User avatar sharee.herman says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about this recipe, didn’t think it would be that easy but it was. Never made ramen before.

    1. User avatar Omar McCullough says:

      5 stars
I was super surprised too! It’s really satisfying to make ramen at home. You did great! 😄

  15. User avatar malika.bode7 says:

    4 stars
The timing is solid and the instructions are clear. Only thing: 4 packs of ramen noodles feels like a lot for 4 cups broth + 2 cups water (total 6 cups). Next time I’ll use 3 packs or add more broth.

Can I use beef instead of chicken? Not sure if that would work…

    1. User avatar princess.ledner68 says:

      4 stars
I don’t see why not! Beef would give it a totally different flavor, maybe even better! Just cook it well, you know?

    2. User avatar shanel.ondricka says:

      2 stars
Uh, but isn’t ramen traditionally made with chicken? I think beef might mess up the whole taste. 🤷‍♂️

  17. User avatar thad.raynor99 says:

This ramen is incredible! The flavors are spot on. A definite 5 stars!

    1. User avatar robby.kohler1973 says:

I’ve tried this recipe and it was super good! The chicken makes it so tasty. 5 stars for sure!

Chicken ramen is easy and cheap to make… I guess? Is there anything special about this recipe?

    1. 5 stars
I think the chicken and broth make it more special than just plain ramen! You gotta try it, super tasty!

  19. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

    5 stars
Delicious! Next time I’ll skip the nori, though. Not a fan of seaweed.

  20. User avatar diedra.jaskolski19 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is fantastic! I made it for my family, and they loved it. So rich and flavorful! 🍜

  21. 2 stars
Too much garlic for my taste. Next time I’ll skip the cloves. Overall okay but won’t make again.

    1. 3 stars
I mean, chicken ramen is supposed to be flavorful. You can always adjust the garlic. Don’t let one ingredient ruin a great recipe!

    2. User avatar derick.cummerata78 says:

      4 stars
I love garlic so I would definitely keep it! Guess everyone has their own taste. Maybe add less next time?

  22. User avatar Snow Bear says:

    5 stars
This looks so cozy. The soft-boiled egg + nori combo is chef’s kiss. I might add a little chili oil too, but the base recipe is solid.

    1. User avatar allena.runte says:

      5 stars
Love this cozy combo! The nori with the soft-boiled egg sounds dangerously good. I’m adding chili oil too—sounds like the perfect little kick.

    2. User avatar joe_banana says:

      5 stars
So wholesome 😭. I’ve never tried nori in ramen before, but I feel like it would add that sea-salty depth. Going to try it exactly once (then probably again).

  23. User avatar abdul.carter13 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about cooking the ramen noodles separately. I always cook them in the broth so they absorb more flavor—what’s the point of draining?

  24. User avatar tristan.green says:

    4 stars
My soft-boiled eggs came out like medium boiled, not soft-boiled 😅 but the rest was great. The chicken thighs shredding step is kinda satisfying. Will repeat!

  25. User avatar bill.hansen says:

    3 stars
Pretty good but I think it could use more seasoning. I added soy sauce which helped a bit.

  26. User avatar lowell.botsford98 says:

    2 stars
Not sure I trust the ‘cook 1 minute until fragrant’ part lol. Garlic burns fast—mine turned brown in 40 seconds. Tasted okay, but next time I’ll lower heat.

    1. User avatar craig.rohan says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—garlic goes from “fragrant” to “burnt” way quicker than 1 minute for me too. I usually do like 20–30 seconds on medium-low and it still tastes great.

    2. User avatar paulene.kuvalis75 says:

      5 stars
I’ve had that happen! If the heat is even a bit high, minced garlic browns instantly. Next time: lower to low/medium-low and watch closely—just until it smells toasty.

  27. 2 stars
I don’t get the nori strips—felt like eating seaweed chips in soup. The rest is fine, but that garnish ruined the vibe for me. Still, effort is there.

    1. User avatar kenya.schaefer67 says:

      4 stars
I actually like the nori vibe 😅 but I’d agree the strips are weird if they’re thick. Next time I’d toast them lightly or cut them super thin, or just use less. The rest sounds solid though!

    2. User avatar jordan.sipes15 says:

      4 stars
Totally get that. Nori can be great, but in soup it can turn into that “seaweed chip” texture fast. Maybe try crumbling it instead of strips? Or add it at the very end so it doesn’t soften too much.

  28. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious! Added a bit of chili oil for some heat. Yummy!

    1. 5 stars
I tried this recipe too and it’s amazing! The chili oil is a nice touch. Great job!!

  29. 5 stars
Yummy ramen! My kids loved it! Will make again for sure.

    1. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

      5 stars
I’m glad to hear your kids loved it! Ramen is a great way to get them to eat their veggies. What other recipes do you think they’ll enjoy?

  30. User avatar shaunte.halvorson40 says:

    4 stars
So simple! I can’t believe I made this at home. Cute bowl of ramen!

  31. User avatar abel.aufderhar1985 says:

    3 stars
20 minutes simmering the broth seems a bit short to me… but maybe the shredded chicken + mushrooms make up for it. I’ll try again and maybe simmer longer.

  32. 1 star
Nah, ramen is only for instant packs, who does all this? 🤷‍♂️

  33. 4 stars
I liked it, but 20 minutes simmer felt a bit short for the broth to really get deep flavor. Next time I’ll simmer longer.

  34. 3 stars
6/10 for me. My mushrooms stayed a little chewy even after 5 min, and I think I needed longer for the spinach to wilt. Still tasty though!

  35. User avatar dolores.quitzon2017 says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly but it just didn’t taste right. Should I have used different noodles?

  36. User avatar Draugr Scourge says:

    3 stars
Not bad but kinda salty for me. I’d cut the salt on the chicken and also taste the broth before adding more. Also 4 packs ramen noodles feels like a lot… unless your bowls are huge.

    1. User avatar zackary.fay8 says:

      4 stars
Yeah 4 packs noodles is a LOT unless you’re doing monster bowls. I use 2-3 packs and it’s plenty for 4 people.

    2. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on the salt—4 cups broth + seasoning the chicken can get outta hand fast. I always taste halfway through and adjust.

  37. User avatar edmundo.fay37 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think the ramen noodles step is missing something. It says cook and drain—mine sucked up broth while I was ladling, so they got a bit gummy. Next time I’ll add noodles right before serving.

    1. 4 stars
I wonder if draining well helps. I usually undercook by like 30-60 sec then assemble right away so it doesn’t turn to paste.

    2. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      5 stars
Yeah I’ve had that happen too—if the noodles sit while you’re ladling, they go gummy fast. Adding them right before serving is the move.

  38. User avatar silva.bashirian2011 says:

    2 stars
Too much work for such a simple dish. Next time, I’ll just microwave the ramen. 🙄

    1. User avatar reginald.mitchell2021 says:

      4 stars
You gotta be kidding me! It’s worth the effort for a homemade dish. Ramen from a packet can’t compare! 😒

  39. User avatar stewart.harris says:

    1 star
Chicken ramen? Thought it was supposed to be beef! 🤔

  40. User avatar michelle.harris12 says:

    5 stars
This recipe was amazing! The broth turned out so rich and flavorful. My family loved it.

    1. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear you liked it! The broth is really the star of the show, isn’t it? 😊

    2. User avatar San Shenlong says:

      2 stars
I don’t get it. Is the broth really that good? I mean, it’s just chicken and water, right? 🤔
