Caprese skewers are a fresh, colorful appetizer that captures the essence of simple Mediterranean flavors. Inspired by the classic Italian salad, this bite-sized version combines juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil into an easy-to-serve dish that is perfect for gatherings, picnics, or light snacks.
To prepare, start with cherry or grape tomatoes for their natural sweetness and firm texture. Pair them with small mozzarella balls, often labeled as bocconcini or ciliegine, which offer a soft and milky contrast to the tomatoes. Fresh basil leaves add a burst of herbal freshness that ties everything together.
Assembling the skewers is quick and straightforward. On small skewers or toothpicks, thread one tomato, a folded basil leaf, and a mozzarella ball. You can repeat the pattern or keep it simple with one of each per skewer. Arrange them neatly on a serving platter, showcasing their vibrant red, white, and green colors.
For extra flavor, drizzle the skewers lightly with high-quality olive oil and a touch of balsamic glaze. The glaze adds a subtle sweetness and depth that enhances the natural flavors of the ingredients. A sprinkle of salt and freshly cracked black pepper is all you need to finish the dish.
Caprese skewers are not only visually appealing but also incredibly versatile. You can elevate them by adding slices of prosciutto for a savory twist or a pinch of chili flakes for gentle heat. They require no cooking, making them an ideal last-minute option when you want something impressive without spending much time in the kitchen.
Serve them chilled or at room temperature, and enjoy a refreshing appetizer that feels both light and satisfying. Caprese salads are a timeless favorite that never goes out of style, offering a perfect balance of flavors in every bite.

These are so yummy! Perfect for summer gatherings. I added some olives too.
Olives in Caprese? That’s kind of weird but hey, to each their own! 🤷♀️
Omg yes! I love Caprese skewers! Olives sound like a fun twist! Yum!
Delicious! Made these for my picnic, and they were a hit! Will make again!
Not sure why you would mix tomatoes, cheese and basil… Seems odd. Not my thing.
Too simple. Needed more ingredients like avocado or something!
Pretty easy to make but felt like something was missing. Maybe some salt?
yummm
These are the best! So easy to make and perfect for parties.
I mean, they look good, but aren’t tomatoes kinda boring?
These look so fresh and simple—like instant party food. The balsamic glaze really makes it pop.
5 stars
Simple but really good. I used regular mozzarella cubes because that’s what I had, and it still worked. Next time I’ll try the basil leaves a little more fresh.
Loved these! I used regular balsamic and it still worked. Next time I’ll cut basil leaves a bit smaller so they fit better.
I LOVE basil! Adds so much flavor to the skewers. Yum!
Basil is the best! It totally makes these skewers pop! 😍
The ratio seems spot on (tomato/basil/mozzarella), but my mozzarella balls were watery even after draining. Next time I’ll blot them longer so they don’t slip off the skewer.
The basil leaf on mozzarella is perfect. I added a pinch of salt and black pepper—made it taste way more ‘complete.’
Yummm. Like instantly fancy-looking for zero effort 😅 The balsamic glaze makes it. I served with bread and everyone kept stealing them.
Mine came out kinda bland even with balsamic. Maybe my glaze was too sweet. Next time I’ll salt the tomatoes or add a pinch of pepper, because right now it’s a little “meh”.
These look so pretty on a platter. I used homemade balsamic glaze and it totally made it taste fancy without much effort.
I followed it exactly, but my balsamic glaze was way too thick and kinda gloopy. Maybe I needed to warm it? Still tasty though.
Balsamic glaze is doing all the heavy lifting here. Also, ‘to taste’ is vague—2 tbsp felt weirdly exact for me, so I’d start with less next time.
Totally agree—balsamic is the whole vibe on these. I also found “to taste” a little slippery, so I went lighter at first and it was perfect.
Made these for a potluck, and they were gone in seconds!
I thought I’d hate balsamic on fresh stuff, but wow. It actually brightened everything. Would make again for sure.
Same here! I was skeptical too, but the balsamic glaze makes it taste way more “put together” without overpowering the mozzarella.
I don’t get the hype. It’s just tomatoes and cheese on a stick. Tastes fine, but not worth making unless you already have the ingredients.
Honestly I get what you mean, but the hype comes from how fresh and easy it is. If you use really good mozzarella and ripe tomatoes, it tastes way better than it sounds.
Yum! 🍅🧀 Basil is like my fave herb, and it makes everything better! Will definitely make again!
Skewers? Isn’t that like a stick? Lol
These were awesome! Super easy to make and a hit at my party.
Delicious! I used pesto instead of balsamic glaze and it was great.
That sounds interesting! Pesto is a great substitute. I never thought of that!
But like, isn’t balsamic glaze kinda key? Pesto’s nice but idk…
These are such a cute party bite. Super quick, and the basil + mozzarella combo is always a win. I used a little extra balsamic and it was perfect.
Too salty for my taste. Maybe less cheese would help?
I made these with the ciliegine but didn’t have balsamic glaze, only balsamic vinegar. It was a bit sharp, needs reduction or glaze.
Not impressed. They looked pretty but tasted basic.
Not gonna lie, I don’t get why people call this a recipe. It’s just tomatoes, cheese, and basil on sticks.
Totally fair—it’s simple, but “recipe” can just mean the steps + proportions. It comes out looking fancy with almost no work.
I don’t get the hype, it’s just tomatoes and cheese???
Can you use any cheese? What if I put cheddar instead? 🤔
I wouldn’t recommend cheddar, it just doesn’t have the same fresh taste as mozzarella! Stick to the recipe for best results!
Love this! Quick snack that looks fancy! Who would’ve thought mozzarella could be so good with tomatoes? #Winning
Caprese is always a win, but I think 1 pint tomatoes might be too many for the basil leaves unless your basil is huge. I had extra mozzarella.
I didn’t have fresh basil, so I used dried. Big mistake! They didn’t taste right at all. 🙁
Yeah, dried basil just ain’t the same! Fresh really makes a difference in flavor. Better luck next time! 🙂
Caprese skewers are basically foolproof, but I wish the mozzarella stayed drier—mine slid around because they weren’t fully drained.
Totally agree—draining the mozzarella is the whole trick. I pat mine dry with paper towels and even let it sit on a rack for a few minutes so it’s less slippery.
Mine slid too, and I thought it was the balsamic at first 😅 Next time I’ll dry them better. Maybe also use smaller mozz balls or press them lightly with a towel—unless you mean drain like, squeeze them? Probably works.
I tried these at a party and was like, wow, they must be super hard to make. But they’re not! Just get some sticks and fruit.
Balsamic glaze is too sweet for me. I’d rather use balsamic vinegar and reduce it myself. Otherwise kinda basic.
5 stars! so tasty and quick. Next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of salt on the tomatoes.
Not gonna lie, caprese is kind of boring to me. Tomato + cheese + basil is fine, but I don’t see the big deal. The balsamic helps, but still.
