Whether you’re rooting for a team or not, there’s no denying that the Super Bowl is one of the best food holidays of the year. Sure, Thanksgiving boasts a carb-heavy feast, and the Fourth of July highlights your barbecuing skills, but when else can you fill your plate with nothing but snacks and appetizers? Super Bowl Sunday is like the ultimate “girl dinner” day, and we’re all here for it. With Travis Kelce dip!
While we often associate NFL players with the teams they represent, it’s easy to forget that they also love watching football—just like us. Even if they’re not in the Super Bowl themselves, they’ll probably be watching the game, indulging in a little cheat meal of pizza, wings, and Buffalo chicken dip. Take Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and his brother Jason Kelce, former center for the Philadelphia Eagles. These two brothers made headlines in 2023 as the first siblings to face off in a Super Bowl, but let’s not forget they haven’t always been in championship games. So, what does Super Bowl Sunday look like for them?
We can picture it now: the Kelce family gathering for a big Super Bowl bash, complete with their favorite snacks and family fun. Along with their parents Donna and Ed, Jason’s wife Kylie, and their kids, Wyatt, Elliotte, and Bennett, maybe even Travis’ girlfriend, Taylor Swift, would join the celebration. While this may not be the exact game day scene, Donna Kelce shared with Allrecipes what her boys loved to eat growing up during the big game.
According to Donna, the Kelce boys loved a variety of dips—especially Tex-Mex ones. Her seven-layer dip, a favorite at tailgates for years, features refried beans, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, olives, and a creamy taco-seasoned layer. While many seven-layer dips use sour cream or cream cheese, Mama Kelce has a twist: she skips those ingredients and instead uses Heluva Good!’s Jalapeño Cheddar Dip for added creaminess and a spicy kick.
With jalapeños, pico de gallo, sliced avocado, black olives, and plenty of cheese, Mama Kelce’s seven-layer dip is a perfect party snack, and you can recreate it at home for your own Super Bowl celebration. Here’s how to make it:
Mama Kelce’s 7 Layer Dip Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 3 ripe avocados, divided
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 (16-ounce) can refried beans
- 1 (12-ounce) package Heluva Good! Jalapeño Cheddar Dip, divided
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 cups pico de gallo salsa, drained
- 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
Directions:
- In a medium bowl, mash the avocados with lime juice and season with salt. Set aside.
- Spread the refried beans as the first layer in your serving dish.
- Add a layer of Heluva Good! Jalapeño Cheddar dip over the beans (reserve 3 tablespoons of dip for later).
- Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top of the dip.
- Add the diced avocados and top with pico de gallo.
- Snip the reserved dip into a small zip-top bag and drizzle it over the pico de gallo.
- Finish with sliced jalapeños and black olives for garnish.
Serve with tortilla chips, and enjoy a dip that even the Kelce brothers would approve of. Perfect for your Super Bowl spread!
