White Chocolate Mousse

February 11, 2025

White chocolate mousse is a luxurious and indulgent dessert that’s both light and creamy, making it the perfect treat for any occasion. The delicate sweetness of white chocolate combines beautifully with the airy texture of the mousse, creating a dessert that’s both rich and refreshing. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party, celebrating a special occasion, or simply craving something sweet, this mousse is sure to impress.

The base of white chocolate mousse is made by melting white chocolate, which provides the dessert with a smooth, sweet flavor. The chocolate is then combined with whipped cream, which adds a light, fluffy texture and balances the richness of the white chocolate. Some recipes also include a bit of vanilla extract for added depth and a hint of warmth, which complements the creamy flavor of the mousse.

To make the mousse even more luxurious, you can fold in a bit of mascarpone cheese or cream cheese, which adds an extra layer of richness and tang, balancing the sweetness of the white chocolate. The mousse is chilled until it’s set, allowing it to firm up and hold its shape while still maintaining its light, airy texture.

For a beautiful presentation, white chocolate mousse can be served in individual cups or bowls, topped with fresh berries like raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries, which provide a tart contrast to the sweetness of the mousse. A sprinkle of white chocolate shavings or a drizzle of fruit sauce can also enhance the visual appeal and flavor.

This mousse is versatile, and you can experiment with different flavors and textures to suit your taste. Try adding a hint of lemon zest for a citrusy twist, or a touch of espresso powder for a more sophisticated flavor. This dessert is a showstopper that’s both easy to make and a treat for the senses.

Too sweet for my taste 😕. Wish I had used less chocolate. Next time I’ll try dark chocolate instead!

  2. 5 stars
This mousse is heavenly! I made it for a dinner party and everyone loved it. Will definitely make again!

I don’t know, the recipe seems a bit complicated. Can I just use whipped cream instead of all the steps? Sounds like a lot of work.

    1. User avatar shanti.bartoletti35 says:

      4 stars
Whipped cream could work, but it’s not the same! The mousse has a special texture. Maybe just give the recipe a try, it’s worth it!

  4. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    4 stars
I was a little worried about separating the egg whites and folding, but it came together. I think I folded too gently because it was a bit airy. Still tasted amazing though.

  5. User avatar milton.mcdermott97 says:

    4 stars
Really tasty, not too sweet, and the vanilla came through nicely. I did have to cool the melted chocolate a bit longer so it wouldn’t mess with the cream, but it worked out.

  6. User avatar saturnina.wintheiser1960 says:

    2 stars
I dunno, this white choc mousse didn’t turn out like I thought. Too sweet for me. 2 stars.

  7. User avatar nadine.nader1966 says:

    3 stars
Not bad but kinda sweet for my taste. Also, I think I forgot the vanilla. Still, it worked out okay. 3.

  8. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    3 stars
Why egg whites and heavy cream? Wouldn’t it be simpler without the egg whites? Not sure the extra step is necessary.

    1. User avatar randi.lockman60 says:

      4 stars
You *could* simplify, but it won’t be the same. Egg whites help it set up and keep the structure airy. If you skip them, I’d expect it to be denser and maybe not hold as nicely after chilling.

    2. User avatar virgie.kiehn37 says:

      5 stars
I’ve made mousse both ways—egg whites are what give it that lighter, fluffier texture. Without them it’s more like a thick cream dessert than true mousse, if you get me.

  9. 4 stars
Just a quick question, can I use chocolate chips instead? I don’t have white chocolate.

  10. User avatar mario.gottlieb48 says:

    3 stars
Looks fancy. Tastes okay. My kid liked it though.

  11. User avatar adolph.schowalter2010 says:

Hate to break it to ya but this recipe seems too complicated for a simple dessert. Just buy a ready one, save your time!

    1. User avatar kandis.littel45 says:

      3 stars
Complicated? Nah, it’s not that hard. Just read the steps carefully. Cooking can be fun! Give it a try before dissing it!

    2. 4 stars
I get what you’re saying, but sometimes the effort is worth it! This mousse looks so delicious 🥳. Plus, it impresses guests way more than store-bought!

  12. 2 stars
I tried this but didn’t realize I needed to let the chocolate cool. It was a mess for me! 😩 2/5.

  13. User avatar blair.cormier59 says:

    1 star
White chocolate? Gross. Dark chocolate is the real deal! 1 star for using the wrong kind!

  14. 4 stars
The method is solid, but I kinda messed up step 1 and my chocolate seized a bit. Still tasted good though, just thicker.

  15. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

    5 stars
Absolutely divine! I made this for a dinner party and everyone loved it. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar Treebeard says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear that! This is one of my favorites too. Did you add anything special to it?

  16. User avatar laree.nienow75 says:

    2 stars
I used dark chocolate by mistake… so yeah it wasn’t white chocolate mousse anymore. But it still worked somehow. Not mad.

  17. User avatar brooks.thompson12 says:

    1 star
Meh, didn’t taste good. Maybe I cooked the chocolate wrong? It got all clumpy. Not a fan! 1 star.

    1. User avatar maura.ryan1987 says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear that! Clumpy chocolate can be tricky. Maybe try melting it at a lower temperature next time?

  18. User avatar humberto.hegmann8 says:

    1 star
I tried this recipe and it turned out terrible! The chocolate wouldn’t melt right. What a waste of ingredients.

  19. 3 stars
what if I want to use normal chocolate? Can I do that?

  20. 5 stars
Made this for a dinner party and it was gone in minutes—super creamy and not too sweet. I did let the chocolate cool longer so it didn’t deflate the mousse. Will make again!

  21. User avatar tanner.welch41 says:

    4 stars
I thought this was really hard to make, but turned out really good! Didn’t expect the egg whites in there. Yum! 4 stars.

  22. User avatar Yooden Vranx says:

    2 stars
It didn’t set for me at all. I followed everything. Maybe my white chocolate was too hot when I folded it? Idk 😕

  23. 2 stars
Not sure about the egg whites—my stiff peaks started to collapse once I folded. Ended up denser than mousse. Maybe my whites weren’t truly room temp.

  24. User avatar orville.friesen29 says:

    5 stars
Mousse is fancy food for me! I loved making this, even if it took forever. Worth it!! 5/5.

  25. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

Can I use milk instead of heavy cream? I don’t have any, but I want to try this.

    1. User avatar Leonie Roob says:

      3 stars
You can use milk, but it might not be as rich and creamy. It could make the mousse a bit runny too! Just so you know.

  26. User avatar luanne.johns2024 says:

    2 stars
Why do you have to use heavy cream? Can’t just use milk? Seems wasteful.

  27. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    3 stars
It’s okay but a little too sweet for my taste. I prefer darker chocolate. 3 stars.

    1. User avatar jamar.ledner says:

      4 stars
I get that! White chocolate can be super sweet, not everyone’s thing. Dark chocolate would give it a nice depth though!

  28. 5 stars
Yum! I added some berries on top and it was perfect. Making this again for sure! 🤤

  29. 5 stars
I like making stuff like this. Works real well for dinner parties! You da best. ⭐

    5 stars
Mousse? More like mousse-tery! This was sooo good! Yummy!

  31. User avatar alphonso.ratke90 says:

    3 stars
This is too fancy for me, I prefer simpler desserts. But my friend loved it, so 3 stars for effort.

  32. User avatar laine.kulas42 says:

    5 stars
This mousse was absolutely delicious! I topped it with some fresh berries. 5 stars!

  34. User avatar joi.damore says:

    5 stars
Y’all this mousse is like heaven in a cup! 🥳 I went crazy and made two batches. So good!!

  35. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

Super simple and fancy! You don’t need many ingredients for somethin so nice. 5/5 would make again.

  36. User avatar carter.bahringer74 says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! This mousse was a hit at my party. Will make again!

  37. User avatar brenda.jones82 says:

    5 stars
Yummm!! 😍 This is like a fluffy cloud of sweetness! My kids went bonkers for it!

  38. User avatar gus.schulist says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I love white chocolate. My kids gobbled it up in no time!

  39. User avatar lemuel.brown says:

    2 stars
It seems complicated! I thought mousse was supposed to be fluffy, but this was kinda dense? 🤔

    1. 3 stars
Dense mousse? Hmm, maybe the chocolate was too warm when you mixed it? 🤷‍♂️ Just follow the steps exactly, and it should fluff up nicely.

    2. 4 stars
I think the key is to really whip those egg whites! If they don’t get fluffy enough, it can make the mousse heavy. Keep trying! 😊

  40. User avatar salvador.herzog says:

    4 stars
    Looks easy. Might try.

  41. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    3 stars
This was too sweet for my taste. I prefer dark chocolate. Might try it with dark chocolate instead next time.

  42. User avatar jess.grady52 says:

    5 stars
Made this for a dinner party and it was *so* silky. I chilled mine overnight and the texture was perfect—like restaurant mousse. Definitely going to keep this recipe.

  43. User avatar leonard.emmerich says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have egg whites, used whipped cream instead. Is that fine?

  44. User avatar ilana.lind57 says:

    1 star
White chocolate mousse sounds fancy, but this recipe doesn’t mention how to avoid scrambling the egg whites. Fold, sure, but I don’t trust it.

  45. User avatar vernon.durgan27 says:

    5 stars
This dessert is sooo creamy and delish! I made it for my kids and they loved it! 5/5

    1. User avatar dinorah.heller91 says:

      4 stars
I’m glad your kids loved it! White chocolate is such a treat. Do you think it would be good with dark chocolate too?

  46. 3 stars
Whipped cream is not my thing, so I skipped it. Still quite nice, but could have been better. 3 out of 5.

  47. User avatar kendra.dach says:

    5 stars
Perfect for parties! Everyone asked for the recipe. Definitely a keeper. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  48. User avatar vita.moore says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but the flavor is kinda rich and a little bland to me. I added a pinch of salt and some lemon zest—way better.

  49. User avatar damon.koelpin39 says:

    4 stars
I messed up and added the egg whites too early, but it still turned out okay! Learning experience!

    1. User avatar maryrose.hirthe says:

      5 stars
Good to hear it turned out! Culinary mishaps can often lead to pleasant surprises. Keep experimenting!

  50. 2 stars
Kinda mid. Like, it tastes good but it’s kinda bland compared to chocolate mousse? Also I messed up the egg whites and now I have a foamy mess 😅

  51. User avatar Mrs. Jacquelynn Wunsch says:

    5 stars
This mousse is so delicious! I made it for my friends and they couldn’t stop raving about it. Definitely a 5-star recipe!

    1. User avatar jenell.hand1988 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! This mousse is my go-to for gatherings. Everyone loves it!

    2. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      3 stars
Really? I found it kinda bland. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  52. User avatar Dr. Elliot Boyle says:

    3 stars
This is good but 2 cups heavy cream feels like a lot—my bowl overflowed when whipping. Also, I don’t have “room temperature” egg whites half the time so I just warmed them near the microwave for like 10 seconds… probably not ideal 😅

  53. 5 stars
So good—like restaurant quality. Also easy to make, just takes patience. Definitely making again.

  54. User avatar marcelo.ullrich says:

    4 stars
Very easy to make! There was a mistake in the instructions though, should mix egg yolks too, right? But I just omitted them, and it was fine. 4 stars.

    1. User avatar eufemia.oconner37 says:

      4 stars
I think mixing the egg yolks would make it richer! Glad it still turned out okay for you.

  55. User avatar Marilu Nienow says:

    5 stars
Made this last weekend—surprisingly elegant. The chilling time really matters. Mine set perfectly after about 2.5 hours. White chocolate flavor is super smooth, not too sweet either.

    1. User avatar randell.windler61 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! That “chill and wait” step is everything with mousse. Glad yours set in 2.5 hours—mine is usually right around there too once the room isn’t too warm.

  56. User avatar nakesha.zulauf1985 says:

    2 stars
I think it’s too sweet. I prefer darker chocolate. Anyone else feel that way?

  57. User avatar scot.skiles36 says:

    2 stars
Meh, it was fine but I thought I could taste something off?

  58. User avatar chanel.cruickshank says:

    4 stars
This is crazy easy, I mean, who doesn’t love white chocolate?

  59. 4 stars
Why do you need to chill it for 2 hours? I was hungry! 😂

  60. 3 stars
It was ok, but the chocolate didnt melt well for me. Had clumps.

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      4 stars
Maybe try melting the chocolate at a lower temp next time? It can get clumpy otherwise.

  61. User avatar paul.witting24 says:

    2 stars
Mousse, what’s that? Sounds fancy but I just don’t get it.

    1. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

      5 stars
Mousse is just a fancy word for a soft dessert! It’s basically whipped cream mixed with something sweet. You should try it, it’s super yummy!

    2. 3 stars
Sounds complicated! Do you really need egg whites? I thought mousse was just chocolate and cream. 🤔

  62. User avatar Allen Goyette says:

    2 stars
It was easy to make but I think I did something wrong. The mousse didn’t set right and was more like soup. What did I do?

  63. User avatar donte.kiehn6 says:

    3 stars
This is good, but 200g white chocolate felt like overkill for me. Next time I’ll reduce slightly. Also, folding takes way longer than I expected.

    1. User avatar deshawn.hermann1993 says:

      4 stars
Totally agree about the white chocolate—200g is rich. I usually do a little less too. Also yes, folding always takes longer than the recipe makes it sound 😅

    2. User avatar doretta.roberts2026 says:

      3 stars
I followed it exactly and mine set fine, but I think I accidentally over-whipped the cream? It tasted good tho. Folding felt like forever, i was like “am i doing it wrong” lol

  64. User avatar Parker Luettgen says:

    3 stars
I found it a bit too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll try using less chocolate.

    1. User avatar janette.swaniawski says:

      3 stars
Too sweet? I thought it was just right! 🤷‍♂️ But hey, to each their own!

    2. User avatar mathWizard says:

      4 stars
I actually loved the sweetness! Maybe next time try using dark chocolate instead?

  65. User avatar justin.lynch1983 says:

    3 stars
The instructions are good, but I think 2 tbsp of water is a weird amount. I added a tiny splash more because my chocolate seized a bit. Still turned out tasty though.

  66. User avatar felton.simonis30 says:

    5 stars
Made it for my grandma’s birthday, she loved it! Thank you for this.

  67. User avatar voncile.koch93 says:

    1 star
The instructions were confusing! I guess I don’t know how to fold properly. Is that like folding laundry?

  68. User avatar Frostbite Spider says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, my mousse didn’t set after 2 hours. I ended up chilling closer to 4 hours and it finally firmed up. Maybe my cream was too warm when whipping?

  69. 3 stars
This recipe feels slightly off on quantities? 2 cups cream for 200g chocolate seems like it should be thicker, but mine was more like a soft pudding after 2 hours. Maybe my fridge is colder?

    1. User avatar Nunu & Willump says:

      4 stars
That sounds frustrating—2 cups cream vs 200g white chocolate is indeed a pretty soft ratio, especially if the chocolate cools warm. Next time try chilling longer than 2 hours or use slightly less cream (like 1 1/2 cups). Also make sure your cream is very cold when whipping.

  70. User avatar cletus.pagac15 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, it was okay but kind of bland. Wish it had more flavor.

  71. User avatar jake.brown76 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps but my chocolate seized a little when melting. I whisked really fast and it came back together. Still tasted great—just looked a bit rustic.

  72. 5 stars
Made this for a dinner party and it disappeared fast. The texture is super silky, not too sweet either. Chilling the full 2 hours really matters!

  73. 3 stars
Honestly, I didn’t care for the white chocolate flavor much. It was a bit bland for my liking.

  74. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
This sounds dangerously good. White chocolate + airy texture is my weakness—2 hours of chilling is totally worth it.

  75. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

    4 stars
I loved how easy it was, just melted chocolate and whipped cream! 😄

  76. User avatar lovetta.wyman11 says:

    4 stars
2 hours felt like not enough for my fridge; it was more like a soft pudding at first. After 4 hours it finally set beautifully.

  77. 2 stars
Tried making it and mine didn’t set after 2 hours… maybe my room was too warm? Or I didn’t chill the cream enough. Still ate it anyway lol.

  78. User avatar rodrick.white1974 says:

    1 star
Um, are egg whites safe to eat in this? I was always told raw eggs are risky.

  79. User avatar keith.dooley77 says:

    5 stars
Wow. This is fancy without being hard. I served it with berries and it looked like restaurant dessert. Definitely making again.

  80. 4 stars
Really easy to make. Perfect for parties! Just made it for my sister’s birthday and everyone was impressed.

  81. 5 stars
This is the best dessert ever! White chocolate is my favorite. Yum!

  82. 3 stars
Eh, I followed it but it turned out too rich for my taste. Also my egg whites never got super stiff—maybe my bowl wasn’t clean. Still ate it lol.

  83. User avatar theo.gerhold1970 says:

    5 stars
This mousse was amazing! So creamy and sweet. My kids loved it!

    1. User avatar Frodo Baggins says:

      3 stars
Really? I found it too sweet. Maybe I just don’t like white chocolate? 🤔

    2. User avatar reid.lockman26 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! This mousse is a hit with kids! 🥳

  84. User avatar ali.bashirian says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty much, but my chocolate seized a bit when cooling. Still tasted great though—just had a slightly grainy vibe.

    1. User avatar holli.goodwin1997 says:

      4 stars
That “seized” thing with white chocolate is so common—usually it’s from water temp or the chocolate cooling too fast. Glad it still tasted great though! Next time, I’d try letting the melted chocolate cool a bit more gently before folding.

    2. User avatar jean.muller1988 says:

      3 stars
Grainy white chocolate mousse? That sounds kinda like you cooled it too much or added water in the chocolate stage. I’d say try using less water or make sure the chocolate is fully smooth before cooling. But hey—if it tasted good, who cares lol.

  85. 4 stars
Great for dessert but a bit too rich, I could only eat a small portion.

  86. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about folding the egg whites in with room-temp whites—mine deflated a lot. Flavor was good, but it was more like a creamy pudding than mousse. Next time I’ll fold more gently.

  87. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Gohan says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, the mousse turned out kind of grainy for me. I let the chocolate cool but maybe I waited too long? Next time I’ll cool it faster and keep an eye on the texture.

  88. User avatar kris.hagenes2018 says:

    5 stars
This mousse was a hit at my party! Super creamy and delicious. Definitely making it again!

    1. User avatar dorothea.mann says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but isn’t it risky using raw egg whites? I don’t know if I would try it.

    2. User avatar suzie.schaefer2020 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! This mousse is one of my favorites too. I can never get enough of that creamy texture!

  89. User avatar monique.kuhlman26 says:

    5 stars
Whipping cream to soft peaks is key. Also, don’t let the chocolate be warm when you combine—mine almost curdled at first. Once I got it right, wow.

  90. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

    4 stars
I’m impressed how light it turned out for something with white chocolate. The chill time really matters. Next time I’ll add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.

  91. User avatar Sha Warvo says:

    3 stars
Mine turned out a little grainy even though I chopped the chocolate finely. Maybe the chocolate seized? I used a double boiler but wasn’t sure about the temperature—still delicious though.

  92. User avatar emil.jenkins says:

    5 stars
Made this for a dinner party and it was a huge hit—silky and not too sweet. The chilling time really matters.

    1. User avatar stan.auer89 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Totally agree—the chilling time makes it set up perfectly. I was nervous the first time but it came out so silky.

  93. User avatar corrie.schmitt says:

    2 stars
Idk, I tried this and it never really set. I left it 3 hours but it was still too runny. Taste was okay but presentation was sad.

    1. 4 stars
Huh. I made this before and it set fine for me, so your ratios might be off or the white chocolate may have seized/failed to incorporate. Did you chill the cream well and whip to soft peaks like the recipe says? If you overfold, it can get loose too.

    2. 2 stars
Oh no—runny mousse usually means the chocolate mixture didn’t cool enough before folding or the cream/egg whites weren’t whipped to the right stiffness. Next time, let the melted chocolate cool until it’s more like thick but still stirable (not warm). Also, chilling longer than 2–3 hours can be needed depending on your fridge.

  94. User avatar thanh.cummerata52 says:

    2 stars
This recipe feels too fussy. Separating eggs is annoying, and I’m not convinced it’s worth the effort for mousse.

    1. 4 stars
Totally get it—egg separation always feels like extra hassle. But I will say the mousse texture is *way* lighter once you whip the whites and fold them in.

    2. User avatar luise.franecki2017 says:

      2 stars
I tried something similar and it was not worth it lol. White chocolate gets weird if it’s even slightly overheated, then you’re stuck with grainy mousse. I’d rather just do a simpler whipped cream situation.

I tried it but mine didn’t firm up. Maybe my cream wasn’t cold enough or I overmixed the egg whites. Flavor was decent, texture was off.

Followed the recipe exactly and it came out perfect! So creamy and light. A must-try!

I’m glad it worked out for you! Have you tried adding any zest or fruits on top? That could be yummy!

Perfect? I don’t know… I tried it and it was super sweet! Too much chocolate for me.

The egg whites folding step is the make-or-break. I overfolded once and it lost some airy texture—my bad. When I folded gently, it came out fluffy.

White chocolate can be tricky. I used “white chips” instead of finely chopped and it took longer to melt. Came out fine in the end!

I don’t usually use egg whites in mousse, but wow—light texture. Next time I’ll be extra gentle folding so it stays airy.

Made this last night—so silky and not too sweet. I used a good quality white chocolate and it really mattered. The chilling time did its job too.
