Watermelon Feta Salad

July 30, 2025

Watermelon Feta Salad is the ultimate refreshing dish for hot summer days. It brings together the sweetness of juicy watermelon with the briny saltiness of feta cheese, creating a contrast that’s both simple and surprising. Add in crisp cucumber, fresh mint, and a squeeze of lime or drizzle of balsamic glaze, and you’ve got a salad that’s light, vibrant, and bursting with flavor.

This salad is all about texture and balance. The watermelon adds hydration and natural sweetness, while the feta crumbles offer a creamy, savory bite. Thinly sliced red onions can provide a bit of sharpness, and fresh herbs like mint or basil add brightness. A touch of olive oil ties everything together, making it feel just a bit more luxurious without weighing it down.

What makes this salad so appealing is how quick it is to throw together. You don’t need to cook anything, and you can prepare it in advance and chill it in the fridge before serving. It’s ideal for potlucks, BBQs, or as a side dish for grilled meats, seafood, or even veggie burgers. Plus, it’s naturally gluten-free and easy to adapt for different dietary preferences.

If you want to make it a bit more filling, you can toss in arugula or baby spinach. For a crunchier texture, try adding chopped pistachios or toasted sunflower seeds. And if you’re feeling adventurous, a few slices of avocado or a sprinkle of chili flakes can give it a creamy or spicy twist.

Watermelon Feta Salad is proof that you don’t need a long list of ingredients to make something truly special. With just a few fresh items and a good balance of flavors, this salad delivers a cooling, satisfying bite that works well as a starter, side, or even a light main course. Serve it cold, and let the ingredients speak for themselves.

Who puts balsamic on watermelon? Seems weird but I’ll give it a shot!

  2. 3 stars
I tried this and it was just okay. The feta overpowered everything. Might try again with less cheese.

  3. User avatar gabrielle.bradtke20 says:

    4 stars
I used blue cheese instead of feta because that’s all I had. Still tasted amazing! Woot woot!

  4. User avatar Draugr Thrall says:

    5 stars
Super easy to make and it looks fancy! My friends loved it, definitely making again!

  5. User avatar wellRespected says:

This salad is a summer dream! So refreshing and the mint makes it pop. 🍉🍃

  6. 1 star
Not for me. Watermelon is meant to be sweet, why ruin it with cheese? 🙄

    1. User avatar kimbra.kuhic says:

      2 stars
Cheese? On watermelon? Sounds gross! I like my melon fresh and sweet, not salty. No thanks.

    2. User avatar jule.christiansen says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! The cheese adds a unique flavor that balances the sweetness of the watermelon. You should give it a try! 😊

  7. User avatar Gangplank says:

    2 stars
Didn’t really like it. The watermelon was too sweet for me with the salty feta.

  8. User avatar Miss Arnoldo Dooley says:

    3 stars
I thought vinegar was not needed. Just watermelon and feta is enough. – It’s like, you don’t put dressing on a fruit salad!

  9. 4 stars
The measurements confuse me a tiny bit—0.25 cup mint is like… half a handful? I did “enough” and it turned out okay.

  10. User avatar marlo.torphy says:

    2 stars
Not my thing. The balsamic felt too strong compared to the sweetness of the watermelon, like overpowering.

    1. 5 stars
Totally get that—balsamic can be punchy. I usually use just a light drizzle (or even a few drops) and taste as I go. You can also let the salad sit 5 minutes so it mellows out.

  11. 4 stars
Yum! But I forgot to get mint leaves. Still tasted nice without them, tho!

  12. 1 star
Not for me. Watermelon is too watery and mixing it with cheese is just wrong. No offense but YUCK!

  13. User avatar romana.nicolas says:

    1 star
This is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted. Watermelon and feta? No thanks.

  14. User avatar karla.maggio90 says:

    5 stars
This salad is so refreshing! Perfect for summer BBQs. The feta with watermelon is just genius!

  15. User avatar Draugr Scourge says:

    5 stars
Made this with my kids! They loved it! Didn’t even need the olive oil. Just 5 stars!

  16. User avatar barry.bergstrom7 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about watermelon with cheese, but it works! The olive oil helps it feel more “grown up.”

    1. 3 stars
I mean… watermelon and cheese together?? 😅 I tried something like this once and it was weirdly salty. Balsamic helped, but still not sure about the feta. Maybe less cheese?

    2. 5 stars
Totally get your skepticism—I’m usually team “sweet means no cheese.” But the olive oil + feta combo sounds like it actually balances everything. Gonna try it!

  17. 4 stars
Fresh mint is key. I used dried once and it tasted… kinda flat. Also, more black pepper than I thought—good advice!

  18. User avatar lilla.parker says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, sounds weird to mix cheese with fruit. Can’t imagine it tasting good. 🤔

  19. 4 stars
I wasn’t sure about the combo at first, but it’s surprisingly good. Who knew feta and watermelon work so well together?

    1. User avatar tennille.bode88 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! It’s such a refreshing dish for summer. You really wouldn’t think they go together, but it’s a flavor explosion!

    2. User avatar aundrea.durgan51 says:

      2 stars
Really? I don’t think watermelon and feta mix well. Kinda sounds weird to me… like, fruit should be sweet not salty.

  20. User avatar Bobbie Johnston says:

    5 stars
Minty and refreshing! Perfect for a BBQ. I added some walnuts for crunch.

  21. User avatar zack.langosh81 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and honestly looks way more impressive than it is. I used less feta because I’m not trying to overpower the watermelon, and it still worked.

  22. User avatar Cammar Pilru says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! The sweet and salty combo is just perfect. Will make it again for sure!

  23. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    2 stars
Could be better. My feta was really salty so the whole thing tasted kinda intense. Maybe use less feta or rinse it? Idk.

  24. User avatar Leto Atreides says:

    5 stars
This salad is so refreshing! Perfect for summer days!

  25. User avatar francisco.bode85 says:

    3 stars
I used oregano instead of mint because I didn’t have any mint. It was okay, but I think it was better with mint. Still good!

    1. User avatar eldridge.kutch2009 says:

      3 stars
Oregano in watermelon salad? That sounds kinda weird! I’ve never tried that. Mint is definitely the best for this one!

  26. User avatar myriam.kunze13 says:

    5 stars
Too easy to make! However, I added some shrimp for protein and it was delightful.

    1. 4 stars
Shrimp?! That’s an interesting twist! I never thought of that. Thanks for the idea!

  27. 2 stars
salad is healthy n good, but watermelon is bad for dogs so be careful!

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      3 stars
Watermelon ain’t bad for dogs! They just gotta eat it in moderation. But this recipe looks yum!

    2. User avatar melony.krajcik says:

      5 stars
You’re right about the dogs! But this salad sounds so refreshing. Can’t wait to try it!

  28. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

    3 stars
I tried it but my watermelon was kinda watery, so it felt soggy after a few minutes. Maybe chill everything first?

    1. User avatar Ginger Pouros says:

      5 stars
That makes sense—watermelon can sweat fast. Chilling the watermelon (and even the bowl) before mixing usually helps, and I’d also try tossing it right before serving instead of letting it sit.

  29. 3 stars
The instructions say serve immediately… I tried letting it sit 20 minutes and it got watery, but the flavor stayed great.

  30. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

    3 stars
Could’ve used more dressing. The olive oil amount felt small, and I ended up adding another splash of balsamic. Still tasty though.

  31. User avatar mariko.lehner says:

    3 stars
Tried it last night but forgot the mint! Still tasted ok, but I bet it’s better with it. Will try again!

    1. 2 stars
Forgot the mint? That’s like making a cake without sugar! Next time for sure! 😂

    2. User avatar manuel.kunze says:

      4 stars
You definitely need the mint! It adds such a fresh flavor. Glad it still turned out tasty! 🌟

  32. User avatar garrett.spinka29 says:

    4 stars
Super easy and looks fancy for basically no work. The feta gets a little salty with the balsamic and pepper—great balance.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—this is one of those “looks like I tried” salads. The salty feta + balsamic combo is perfect.

  33. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

    2 stars
Meh. Watermelon salad always tastes kinda watery to me, even with the feta. I guess I’m not a mint person either.

  34. 5 stars
This salad is so refreshing! Perfect for summer BBQs. I added some cucumber too, yum! 😋

  35. User avatar harry.lubowitz says:

    5 stars
This salad was AMAZING! The combo of watermelon and feta is just perfect. Will definitely make it again!

    1. User avatar Reg Nullify says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This is my go-to summer salad now. So refreshing!

    2. User avatar lizzzard says:

      2 stars
Really? I don’t know about that combo. Watermelon and cheese sounds weird to me.

  36. 2 stars
Simple to make, but I used goat cheese instead, which made it taste weird. Stick to feta!

    1. User avatar shawnta.parker says:

      3 stars
I don’t knoow, I think goat cheese can be great if you use a strong flavor. Maybe try adding more mint or something next time?

    2. User avatar Falmer Gloomlurker says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Feta is definitely the way to go for that salty contrast. Goat cheese just doesn’t hit the same, does it?

  37. 3 stars
I followed it exactly but somehow my feta tasted too salty. Maybe I had bad feta? Still edible though.

  38. 3 stars
I made it but mine got watery after sitting for a bit. Tasted good right away though. Next time I’ll serve immediately like the instructions say.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, that’s pretty normal with watermelon—once it sits, it starts weeping juice and the feta gets a little watery. Serving right away helps a lot.

  39. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    3 stars
I love watermelon but I’m not a fan of feta. Made it for the family and they loved it!

    1. User avatar karie.gorczany55 says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! Watermelon is so refreshing, but feta can be hit or miss. Glad your family enjoyed it! 😊

    2. User avatar danna.waelchi1955 says:

      3 stars
Feta is the best!! But if you don’t like it, maybe try some mozzarella instead? I think that would be good too.

  40. User avatar garret.flatley says:

    2 stars
I don’t trust watermelon with dairy. Sounds like it would taste like soap 😅 but I guess people like it.

  41. User avatar temple.considine97 says:

    4 stars
Was skeptical about mixing watermelon and cheese, but it actually works! Great summer dish.

  42. User avatar Mrs. Normand Dickinson says:

    5 stars
I made it for a summer BBQ and it disappeared fast. Didn’t even need much dressing—mint + pepper did the job.

  43. User avatar essie.tillman says:

    5 stars
Made it for a summer get-together and everyone asked for the recipe. Super easy and looks fancy in a bowl.

  44. 4 stars
The instructions are straightforward and it came together fast. I served it immediately like it says and it stayed crisp.

    1. User avatar gregory.kuhic1969 says:

      5 stars
Agree—mine did the same. I tossed it once, served right away, and the watermelon stayed nice and crisp.

  45. User avatar graig.zieme40 says:

    4 stars
Do you really need the balsamic? I ain’t got any and doesn’t seem necessary.

    1. User avatar danna.bednar says:

      4 stars
The balsamic just adds a nice flavor, but if you don’t have it, don’t worry! Still tastes great without it!

  46. 3 stars
Wait… feta with watermelon? Sounds weird but I guess I can try. Lol.

    1. User avatar winfred.braun22 says:

      5 stars
Right?? It totally sounds odd at first, but the salty feta + sweet watermelon is actually a great combo. If you try it, add lots of black pepper and fresh mint—trust me 😄

    2. User avatar melonie.willms94 says:

      2 stars
Uh I dunno… feta’s salty and watermelon’s sweet, so it’s gonna be like weird fishy vibes to me. But I guess if you keep it light on the feta it might be ok? Still sounds like a TikTok recipe lol.

  47. User avatar lorilee.altenwerth30 says:

    5 stars
So delish!!! 10/10 would recommend! Best in the world. Just watermelon and feta are the best.

  48. User avatar Lon Little Jr. says:

    4 stars
Tasty and super easy, but I think the feta needs to be a little less salty or you’ll end up with a strong flavor contrast. Still, would make again.

  49. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

    4 stars
I used a little less balsamic because I’m not a fan of sweet vinegar, and it was still really good. Mint really makes it pop.

  50. User avatar efrain.homenick20 says:

    1 star
    🤢 yuck

  51. 3 stars
Tried this recipe and it was super simple. But I don’t understand why people like watermelon in salads? Doesn’t make sense to me.

  52. 2 stars
I don’t get why people mix fruit and cheese. It sounds kinda weird to me. Maybe I’m missing something?

  53. User avatar todd.schmitt says:

    4 stars
Balsamic optional… good call. I skipped it and added lemon instead. Way better in my opinion.

    1. User avatar jerry.gleichner says:

      5 stars
I love the lemon swap! 🍋 The bright acidity with the sweet watermelon is perfect, and it makes the feta taste extra fresh.

    2. User avatar bill.hirthe says:

      4 stars
Huh, I usually do balsamic, but lemon sounds interesting. Does the lemon overpower the mint though? I might try it next time. (Also I feel like my balsamic is always too thick lol.)

  54. User avatar zachery.mohr says:

    5 stars
This was shockingly refreshing—sweet, salty, and the mint really pops. I used the balsamic and it felt like the perfect finishing touch.

    1. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—mine was super refreshing too. I didn’t think balsamic would work, but it really ties it together. Great recipe!

  55. User avatar david.harris says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously refreshing—perfect summer vibe. The feta + watermelon combo is honestly addictive. I used a little extra mint and it was great.

  56. 5 stars
So refreshing! The combo of sweet watermelon and salty feta is exactly what I want in summer. I used a bit more mint and it was perfect.

  57. 5 stars
OMG, this salad is life! So refreshing for summer days! 😍

    1. User avatar gregory.mitchell83 says:

      3 stars
This sounds good, but isn’t feta a bit salty for watermelon? Just wondering.

    2. User avatar geoWizard says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! It’s perfect for hot days. I love how refreshing it is! 😊

  58. 4 stars
5 minutes?? thats it?? lol i added lemon too, tasted better. also forgot the mint at first and it was sad. fixed it tho

  59. User avatar james.lemke says:

    3 stars
I used feta from a different brand and it turned out too salty. Next time, I’ll try another one or less of it.

  60. 1 star
why put black pepper on sweet fruit? That’s weird. I covered mine in sugar instead.

  61. User avatar marietta.klein says:

    5 stars
Super refreshing! The mint + feta combo is honestly so good, and the balsamic drizzle makes it feel fancy without much effort.

  62. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about watermelon and feta together, but the first bite changed my mind. Sweet/salty balance is legit.

  63. User avatar rosanna.wyman36 says:

    4 stars
Yummy salad! Fresh tasting and easy to make! Just what I needed for the BBQ!

  64. User avatar krystina.ward says:

    3 stars
I love mint but this was a little too much mint for my liking. Still tasty overall, just adjust amounts.

  65. User avatar jeremiah.schoen2016 says:

    3 stars
Super easy, but I thought the balsamic made it too sweet. I ended up skipping it and just added more black pepper—tasted cleaner to me.

  66. User avatar Hwi Noree says:

    4 stars
The balsamic optional part is real—the drizzle elevates it, but if you use too much it gets a little heavy. I’d say start small.

  67. User avatar martin.oconner says:

    4 stars
I tried it with less feta and it felt kinda flat. Needs the saltiness from the cheese to work.

    1. User avatar lenard.lueilwitz says:

      4 stars
Hmm, I used even less feta and added a pinch of salt—way better than calling it “flat.” Maybe the balsamic needs to go in too?

    2. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—when I cut the feta down it just tasted like watery melon. The feta saltiness is what pulls it together.

  68. 4 stars
This is weirdly good. At first I was like “why balsamic with watermelon,” but the drizzle actually balances it. 10/10 for surprise factor.

  69. User avatar Piter De Vries says:

    3 stars
I don’t know… it’s kind of like a fruit salad pretending to be fancy. But yeah, it’s still good. 😂

    1. User avatar Lumberjack says:

      5 stars
Haha I get what you mean 😄 But the salty feta totally makes it feel “fancy” to me. Definitely a win.

    2. User avatar marvin.streich3 says:

      3 stars
I tried something like this and it was too sweet. Maybe I didn’t add enough pepper? Also, balsamic vinegar makes it weirdly sour sometimes.

  70. User avatar mauro.gorczany88 says:

    3 stars
Mine got watery after about 20 minutes—next time I’ll salt the watermelon lightly first or serve immediately like the instructions say. Still tasted good though.

  71. 5 stars
Made this for a BBQ and it disappeared fast. I used a little less feta and added more black pepper—still perfect.

  72. User avatar roseann.pfannerstill88 says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! My kids loved it. Who knew they would eat mint? 😂

  73. User avatar jody.lind0 says:

    4 stars
This is basically fruit salad with cheese. Not mad, just calling it what it is. Pepper at the end is key.

    1. 4 stars
lol i thought it was gonna be sweet only, but the feta makes it salty and the pepper at the end actually changes everything. nice call.

    2. User avatar loralee.thompson says:

      5 stars
Honestly I get what you mean—but the balsamic + lots of pepper makes it feel way more than “just fruit salad.” This is my go-to.

  74. 5 stars
So fresh and simple—perfect summer side. The feta + watermelon combo is weird at first but totally works.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—first bite is like “wait…what?” then suddenly it’s amazing. That salty feta really wakes up the watermelon.

  75. User avatar marty.rutherford97 says:

    4 stars
Bold flavors! I forgot the balsamic vinegar and honestly it was fine without it. Mint + pepper carried the whole thing.

  76. 2 stars
Meh. watermelon + cheese just not my thing. The mint helps but I wouldn’t repeat.

    1. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

      4 stars
I get it—watermelon + cheese can be polarizing. If you’re not into feta, maybe try goat cheese or even skip it and do a lime-mint version.

    2. User avatar jame.goodwin4 says:

      5 stars
Nah I love this combo lol. The mint cuts the sweetness and the feta is salty like instant balance. I’d make it again.

  77. User avatar daron.feest2022 says:

    4 stars
I made it for a BBQ and everyone asked for the recipe. The black pepper at the end is key—don’t skip it.

  78. User avatar lawana.langworth says:

    3 stars
Could’ve used more feta, it was kinda light for me. But overall it’s easy and tasty, especially as a quick side.

  79. User avatar nakita.nolan1960 says:

    5 stars
This is such a refreshing combo—sweet watermelon with the salty feta is honestly perfect. The mint makes it feel extra fresh.

  80. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
I think the idea is nice, but it just didn’t taste right. The mint was too strong for me. Maybe I’ll skip it next time.

  81. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the balsamic—tastes kinda like “salad dessert” to me. I’d skip it or use less next time.

  82. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about watermelon + feta, but I tried it anyway. Surprisingly good—though my mint was a little too strong, so I’ll use less next time.

  83. User avatar Kid Trunks says:

    5 stars
5/5, watermelon + feta is always a win. Also the olive oil helps everything cling better. Will repeat for sure.

    1. User avatar donna.bode says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—watermelon + feta is such a classic combo. The olive oil + mint really makes it feel fresh and cohesive. Love the quick instructions too!

  84. 4 stars
I’m skeptical but I gave it a shot. Surprisingly delicious. The black pepper makes it way better—who knew.

    1. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

      5 stars
Same here—I was like “watermelon + feta? really?” but the black pepper totally pulls it together. Nice tip for the balsamic drizzle too.

  85. User avatar trenton.jast61 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine came out a little watery. Next time I’ll drain the watermelon a bit or let the salad sit for a minute before serving.

  86. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps but mine turned watery after sitting for a while. Next time I’ll serve immediately like it says—lesson learned.

    1. User avatar delila.daugherty62 says:

      5 stars
Yeah that happens—watermelon kind of weeps once it sits. Serving right away is the move. Next time maybe pat the watermelon cubes dry a bit first?

  87. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about putting feta with watermelon, but it actually works. I might add a squeeze of lemon next time.

I was skeptical about watermelon and feta, but wow—sweet-salty balance is legit. Next time I’ll add a tiny bit of lime too.

Wow this is simple and looks like restaurant salad. I served it with grilled chicken and everyone went back for more.

This is such a refreshing combo—sweet, salty, and the mint really wakes it up. I added a little lemon too and it was perfect. 😋

I made it exactly as written and it came out really good. Next time I might chill the watermelon first because it tasted even better after a few minutes in the fridge.

Yes! Chilling really makes a difference—cool watermelon + feta is so refreshing. I’ve started letting it sit 10–20 minutes too.

I did it by the steps and it was good, but I think “serve immediately” is kinda tricky. Like mine sat for a bit and honestly it got better… watermelon got sweeter??

Looks easy. Will try, but if it turns out bad I’m blaming the mint lol.

This is such a perfect hot-weather combo—sweet, salty, and the mint makes it feel extra fresh. I added the balsamic and it was chef’s kiss.

I followed it and it came out bland until I added way more black pepper. The recipe says “generously” but I don’t think you mean it until you taste it.

It’s tasty, but “serve immediately” is real. After a while the watermelon gets watery and the feta kinda slips around.

Wait… “serve immediately” is kinda hard lol. I let it sit because I wanted flavor to mix, but yeah the feta slid around and it got watery. Next time I’ll maybe pat the watermelon dry or use less balsamic. Still tasty tho.

Totally agree—mine was awesome right away, but after sitting even 20-30 minutes the watermelon turns watery and the feta gets all slick. I started prepping everything separately then toss at the last second and it helps a lot.

I did everything but maybe my feta was too salty? The whole thing tasted kinda harsh, even with extra pepper. Otherwise the texture was nice.

Okay but why so much pepper? I went easy and it still tasted weirdly bland to me. Maybe my feta was not good.

I feel you—pepper can totally be overpowering if it’s fresh-ground and you go heavy. But the balance matters too: if the feta is mild/salty and the watermelon is super sweet, pepper might be the only “kick,” so it can feel odd if your feta wasn’t flavorful. Did you taste the feta before adding?

Ugh I think the instructions say “generously” but that’s probably for when you use like cheap feta? I did mine with store-brand feta and only a little pepper and it was still kinda bland. Also maybe your balsamic? I forgot it once and it was meh.

5/5 would eat again. Also the mint makes it feel like restaurant food lol.
