Tzatziki Chickpea Salad

March 5, 2025

Tzatziki chickpea salad is a refreshing, nutrient-packed dish that combines the best of Mediterranean flavors. With creamy tzatziki dressing, hearty chickpeas, and crisp vegetables, this salad is both satisfying and light, making it an ideal choice for lunch, a side dish, or even a healthy snack. It’s a delightful twist on traditional chickpea salads, offering a creamy, tangy texture thanks to the yogurt-based tzatziki sauce.

The foundation of this salad is chickpeas, which are high in protein and fiber, making them both filling and nutritious. The addition of crunchy cucumber, ripe tomatoes, red onions, and fresh herbs like parsley and dill adds vibrant color and a burst of freshness. The creamy tzatziki dressing, made from Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and a touch of dill, perfectly complements the chickpeas and vegetables with its cool, tangy flavor. The yogurt’s richness pairs beautifully with the crispness of the cucumbers and the earthiness of the chickpeas, creating a balanced and satisfying bite every time.

What makes tzatziki chickpea salad particularly appealing is its versatility. It can be enjoyed as a light meal on its own, served alongside grilled meats like lamb or chicken, or tucked into pita bread for a Mediterranean-style wrap. The salad is also customizable—feel free to add extra ingredients like olives, feta cheese, or avocado for added flavor and texture.

This salad is not only quick and easy to prepare, but it’s also great for meal prep. The flavors develop and improve over time, making it perfect for storing in the fridge for a few days. It’s also a wonderful make-ahead dish for picnics, barbecues, or potlucks.

With its combination of creamy, tangy, and fresh elements, tzatziki chickpea salad is a healthy, satisfying dish that celebrates the bright, bold flavors of the Mediterranean.

I added some feta and it instantly turned into my favorite lunch. The yogurt dressing clings well to the chickpeas—yum.

    1. User avatar eneida.hahn33 says:

Interesting—feta + tzatziki vibes. I usually hate when dressings get watery though… do you find it stays thick or does it get runny after sitting?

    2. 5 stars
Omg feta makes everything better 😄 I love that the yogurt dressing clings to the chickpeas—exactly what I want in a salad like this.

  6. User avatar rocco.daugherty79 says:

This is super refreshing—tastes like a tzatziki vibe but in salad form. The lemon and dill combo is spot on.

  7. 3 stars
This was ok. But my mom makes it better. Don’t know what she does though.

Pfft. Who needs chickpeas when you can have a juicy steak? This salad is gonna be bland.

    2. User avatar lucius.leannon94 says:

      4 stars
I get where you’re coming from! But chickpeas are super healthy and fill you up, too. You can always add some chicken or bacon for that meatiness!

  10. User avatar valerie.effertz69 says:

Not my favorite. Chickpeas are kind of boring, right? Just potatoes are better.

    1. User avatar gwenn.konopelski says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! Chickpeas are super versatile and add a nice texture. Potatoes are just… well, kinda mushy.

  11. User avatar marilee.zulauf1978 says:

    3 stars
Not quite like the tzatziki I know. Garlic is a bit much! But the texture was nice.

Tzatziki flavor ain’t what I thought it’d be but still edible.

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      4 stars
I actually love that you tried it! Tzatziki can be hit or miss, but it’s great on different things. You just gotta adjust it to your taste, maybe more garlic next time?

  15. User avatar lanny.thiel says:

    2. User avatar dino.weissnat1961 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree! This salad is super easy, and perfect for hot days! 😊

  18. User avatar Future Trunks says:

    3 stars
I used dried dill because I didn’t have fresh, and it wasn’t as aromatic. Still tasted healthy, but I missed that fresh “pop.”

  19. User avatar chin.feest17 says:

    1 star
No way this was good! What’s the deal with yogurt in a salad? Just not for me.

  20. User avatar kathryn.orn says:

    2 stars
Why not just make regular tzatziki? Chickpeas feel kinda random, but I get it—still, the texture was a bit weird to me.

  21. User avatar Sean Yost says:

    3 stars
I don’t understand how chickpeas can be salad, but the yogurt dressing was nice.

    1. User avatar Jenifer Murphy says:

      4 stars
Chickpeas are great in salads! They add protein. Glad you liked the dressing!

    2. User avatar tyson.paucek says:

      2 stars
Salad? Really? Sounds more like a weird dip to me. But hey, if you liked the dressing, that’s cool.

  22. 5 stars
OMG this is the best salad ever!!! My kids ate it too!!

  23. User avatar cory.turner59 says:

    2 stars
Okay I tried it but I accidentally used onion powder instead of red onion and it was not the same. Still decent though.

    1. 4 stars
Ahh that makes sense—onion powder won’t give the same crunch or bite as real red onion. I’m glad it was still decent though! Next time maybe use just a little chopped onion (or even swap green onion) to keep that fresh tzatziki vibe.

  24. User avatar lucas.weimann90 says:

    2 stars
Why is this called tzatziki? It’s not like the traditional recipe at all. Don’t get the hype.

  25. User avatar osvaldo.hickle2 says:

    4 stars
I added cumin and it gave it a nice twist! Will make again!

  26. User avatar guinea pig says:

    5 stars
Quick and yummy. Perfect for a hot day. Me and my kids gobbled it up!

    1. User avatar Rito Chieftain says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I’m definitely gonna try this with my family too.

  27. 2 stars
Too much garlic for my taste. Made the whole thing kinda overpowering.

  28. 3 stars
The recipe says salt and pepper to taste, but like… how much? I added too much salt and regretted it 😅

    1. 2 stars
Yeah same happened to me—i just dumped a bunch like a fool. Also i think the lemon juice already salty? So maybe hold off on salt until after you chill it a bit.

    2. User avatar james.hintz says:

      5 stars
Totally feel you 😅 When it says “to taste,” I usually start with ~1/4 tsp salt for this amount, then add more in tiny pinches. Pepper maybe 1/8–1/4 tsp to start.

  29. User avatar Lauren Ortiz says:

    4 stars
Easy recipe. I don’t usually measure 1/4 cup tomatoes right—more like “a handful”—and it still turned out okay, lol. 😅

    1. User avatar mabel.hammes19 says:

      5 stars
Honestly “a handful” is exactly how I do most salads too 😂 Glad it still worked for you! The yogurt + lemon/dill really pulls it together.

    2. User avatar floyd.rosenbaum17 says:

      3 stars
Hmm maybe but tomatoes vary so much—did it get watery? I always worry that eyeballing will throw off the balance with the yogurt.

  30. User avatar Thufir Hawat says:

    4 stars
I did exactly the recipe and it came out great. Only thing: I chopped the cucumber a bit too big, so next time I’ll go smaller for better bites.

  31. User avatar Super Saiyan Vegeta says:

    2 stars
Sounds good, but you really need to season it better. Needs more salt!

  32. User avatar miles.gutkowski says:

    5 stars
This salad was super refreshing! I love tzatziki, and the chickpeas give it a nice touch. Will make again!

    1. User avatar randal.waters2024 says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked it! Tzatziki really does make everything better. 😊

  33. User avatar Vroomfondel says:

    3 stars
Is this really a traditional recipe? I thought tzatziki was a dip not a salad.

    1. User avatar water buffalo says:

      4 stars
Tzatziki is usually served as a dip, but this salad sounds delicious! It’s like a twist on the classic. I would try it!

  34. User avatar julian.white10 says:

    5 stars
This salad is a game-changer! So refreshing, perfect for summer!

  35. User avatar hannah.klocko1998 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have dill, so I used basil. Still turned out tasty!

  36. 5 stars
Easy peasy! I whipped this up for a picnic and everyone loved it!

    1. 2 stars
I dunno… chickpeas mixed with yogurt? Seems weird. I stick to traditional salads.

    2. User avatar mitzi.boyer says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! I can’t wait to try this at my next family gathering. Thanks for sharing!

  37. 5 stars
This salad is so refreshing! Perfect for summer. I added some feta too!

  38. User avatar jacqulyn.gleason7 says:

    2 stars
Tzatziki? More like ‘who needs it?’ I just don’t get the hype about yogurt in salads.

  39. User avatar trena.schowalter88 says:

    3 stars
Kinda bland for my taste. I added some cumin and it helped, but I expected more flavor.

  40. User avatar phil.effertz91 says:

    2 stars
Easy and quick, but it tasted too sour for my liking. I think I’ll skip the lemon next time.

    1. User avatar jacques.hudson78 says:

      2 stars
Sour? Really? It’s not like it’s a lemon dish! Just a hint of lemon is good, don’t you think?

    2. User avatar chester.jacobson93 says:

      4 stars
I actually loved the tanginess the lemon brought! It adds a nice zing. Maybe try a bit less next time instead of skipping it completely?

  41. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    2 stars
Did I read it wrong? Where’s the tzatziki? I expected it to be mixed in… confused.

  42. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about using chickpeas with tzatziki flavors, but it works. The acidity helps a lot.

  43. 2 stars
Eh, I’ve had better. Just feels like a mix of random stuff. Maybe too many veggies?

    1. User avatar rueben.schamberger22 says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! This salad is awesome. The chickpeas and yogurt really work together. It’s refreshing!

    2. User avatar hildegard.okeefe says:

      3 stars
I dunno, too many veggies can be good! I like crunch. But what if you just didn’t mix it too much?

  44. User avatar kassandra.friesen says:

    3 stars
Kind of bland for me, even with salt and pepper. I think it needs more garlic or maybe a pinch of cumin? Still not bad though.

  45. 4 stars
Didn’t have dill, used parsley instead. Still turned out yummy!

  46. User avatar candi.thompson99 says:

    2 stars
how do u make it not watery? mine was a mess.

  47. User avatar vito.bernier94 says:

    5 stars
    Perfect summer dish!!! ❤️❤️

  48. 4 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly—used fresh cucumber and it tasted super bright. Next time I’ll add a pinch of cumin for a little warmth.

    1. User avatar Mr. Trenton Russel says:

      3 stars
Cucumber bright is right, but cumin seems a bit much… I’d worry it changes the vibe from tzatziki-ish to something else. Maybe just a tiny dash though? Also I always forget to refrigerate the 30 min 😅 and it’s still good.

    2. User avatar rueben.feil1980 says:

      5 stars
That sounds great—fresh cucumber really does make it pop. I love the idea of cumin too. I’ve been tempted to add a little extra dill, but warmth from cumin might be perfect.

  49. 2 stars
The amount of onion felt like a lot. I’m used to milder salads, so mine was kinda sharp, but I guess that’s on me.

  50. User avatar sherryl.trantow1967 says:

    1 star
Yuck! My kids didn’t like it either. Just doesn’t taste good. Maybe too healthy?

  51. User avatar dominic.zieme1996 says:

    5 stars
This is such a refreshing twist on tzatziki. The dill + lemon combo is spot on, and the chickpeas make it really filling.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—dill + lemon makes it feel way lighter than regular tzatziki. I also love that the chickpeas make it filling without being heavy.

  52. User avatar velma.nienow61 says:

    4 stars
Simple and delicious. “Meld flavors” is real—better after a bit in the fridge. 10/10 for quick meal prep.

    1. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this tastes like it gets better the longer it sits. The dill + garlic combo is on point. I meal-prepped it for lunch and it held up great.

    2. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      4 stars
Sounds good but I’m confused… is it supposed to be salty since it’s Greek yogurt? Also I didn’t have fresh dill so I used dried and it was kinda strong. Still okay though, might try again with less garlic lol.

  53. 3 stars
Not bad at all, but I found it a little too tangy from the lemon juice. Maybe 1/2 tbsp would be better for my taste.

  54. 4 stars
I added grilled chicken and it was a hit! Loved the creaminess from the yogurt.

  55. User avatar dede.larson2007 says:

    5 stars
Made this for lunch and it disappeared fast. I let it chill the full 30 minutes and the flavors really came together.
