Turkey and Asparagus Skillet

April 3, 2024

When you’re short on time but still want something nourishing and satisfying, this turkey and asparagus skillet is a lifesaver. Made with lean ground turkey, crisp-tender asparagus, and flavorful seasonings, it’s a healthy one-pan dinner that comes together in 20 minutes or less.

The simplicity of this dish is what makes it so appealing. All you need is ground turkey, fresh asparagus, garlic, onion, and a few pantry spices. The turkey is browned until golden, then paired with asparagus that stays crisp yet tender, offering a perfect texture contrast. A little lemon juice or zest at the end brightens the entire dish.

This meal is naturally low in carbs, high in protein, and great for anyone watching their macros. It’s also gluten-free, dairy-free, and adaptable, you can add mushrooms, zucchini, or cherry tomatoes if you want to mix things up. Want it spicy? Add red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha.

Another bonus is the minimal cleanup. Since everything cooks in one skillet, you’ll spend less time washing dishes and more time enjoying your meal. It’s ideal for busy weeknights, and leftovers store beautifully in the fridge, making it a solid option for meal prep.

You can serve this turkey and asparagus skillet on its own or pair it with cauliflower rice, quinoa, or even a fried egg on top for extra richness. It’s also great tucked into a low-carb wrap or lettuce cups for a handheld option.

With wholesome ingredients and simple prep, this skillet meal is proof that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s fast, flavorful, and filling — a go-to recipe you’ll keep coming back to.

Asparagus is gross, sorry! Not gonna try this. 🤮

Pretty good but I think it’s missing a little acidity. Next time I’ll add a squeeze of lemon at the end.

I used turkey thigh meat (same idea?) and it was darker than expected but still turned out. I thought it’d be bland, but the herbs came through.

Turkey thigh meat should work similarly—just browns up a bit darker. Glad the herbs still came through; I’m always worried it’ll taste bland too, so that’s reassuring.

Not bad, but my turkey browned too fast and got a bit dry. Maybe my heat was higher than medium. Still edible though.

Hmmm, I questioned cooking asparagus with turkey. Seemed weird… but it actually worked!

Turkey?! Asparagus?! Yuck! I’ll stick to my beef and broccoli, thank you very much.

I dunno, it was kinda bland. I added some hot sauce and it helped a little. Maybe next time I’ll add some cheese?

I totally agree! I found it a bit lacking too. Cheese sounds like a great idea! Maybe some feta for a tangy twist? 🤔

Made this tonight and it was surprisingly flavorful. The paprika + thyme combo is money. I used chicken broth like it says and the asparagus came out perfect after ~10 minutes.

Not sure about the thyme/oregano amount. It tasted a bit dusty to me (could be that I’m sensitive). Still edible though, just not my favorite flavor profile.

I don’t get the thyme + oregano + paprika—seemed like too many dried herbs. But surprisingly it worked. Still, I’d cut back on oregano a bit.

Took too long to cook. Asparagus should be crunchy, not mushy!

I thought it was fine. My asparagus was super crunchy, like perfect! Maybe you cooked it too long?

    2. 4 stars
I agree, asparagus is best when it’s crunchy! Maybe try reducing the simmer time next time?

Ok but can we talk about how 1 bunch of asparagus varies wildly? Mine was huge and I had to cook longer. Still tasty, just adjust.

Not what I expected… too bland for my taste. Maybe needs more spices?

I totally agree! I added cayenne and it made a huge difference. Spices can really elevate a dish!

1 tsp dried thyme seems too much to me—ended up overpowering. I’d cut it in half next time.

Hmm I actually like the flavor when it’s the full 1 tsp. Might depend on how fresh your thyme is—mine is pretty potent but I think it goes good with the oregano and paprika. Maybe next time try using less oregano too?

Totally agree—thyme can get strong fast. I usually start with 1/2 tsp (and maybe add more at the end) if I’m using dried herbs.
