Toast Topped with Ricotta and Hot Honey

January 30, 2025

When it comes to simple yet delicious dishes, nothing beats the comforting combination of creamy ricotta and the kick of hot honey on crispy toast. This easy-to-make treat brings together the warmth of toasted bread, the smooth richness of ricotta, and the perfect balance of sweetness and spice that hot honey provides. Whether you’re enjoying it for breakfast, a light lunch, or as a snack, this recipe is bound to become your go-to indulgence.

To start, choose a hearty slice of bread -sourdough, ciabatta, or even a thick-cut whole-grain bread works wonderfully. Toasting the bread until it’s golden brown gives it a satisfying crunch, which contrasts beautifully with the creamy ricotta.

Ricotta, with its mild and slightly sweet flavor, is the ideal base for this dish. Spread it generously on the warm toast, allowing it to melt just slightly, creating a creamy layer. For an extra touch of flavor, you can sprinkle a pinch of salt and a dash of freshly cracked black pepper on top of the ricotta. This enhances its natural sweetness and complements the spicy heat from the hot honey.

Now, for the star of the show: hot honey. This versatile ingredient is made by infusing honey with chili flakes or peppers, offering just the right amount of heat. A drizzle of hot honey on top of the ricotta creates a beautiful contrast in both flavor and texture. The sweetness of the honey blends seamlessly with the rich ricotta, while the heat lingers on your palate, adding an unexpected twist.

For an added touch, sprinkle some fresh herbs like thyme or basil, or even a few crushed nuts such as pistachios or walnuts. These little additions will enhance the flavor profile, making the dish even more exciting.

This toast topped with ricotta and hot honey is a delightful balance of creamy, sweet, and spicy, making it a must-try for anyone who loves bold flavor combinations. It’s an easy yet elegant dish that can be customized to suit any taste. Give it a try-you might just find it’s your new favorite treat.

I made it but my bread got burnt. 😩 Watch your toaster peep!

  2. 4 stars
Could this be made vegan? What about tofu instead of cheese?

  3. User avatar Ms. Fabian Wunsch says:

Honestly, this is just toast with some stuff on it. I expected more flavor. Meh…

Hmmm, I thought ricotta was for pasta! Will this work??

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely! Ricotta can be used in many dishes, not just pasta. This toast is amazing! 😋

  6. User avatar delma.collier41 says:

    4 stars
I tried it exactly as written and it turned out pretty good, but I think I needed a pinch of salt in the ricotta. Otherwise it tasted a little bland to me.

  7. User avatar roxanna.hamill says:

    2 stars
I tried it, but the hot honey was way too sweet for me. Should’ve used regular honey instead.

  8. 3 stars
Definitely trying this with cream cheese instead next time. Ricotta ain’t my fave.

  9. User avatar morris.parisian34 says:

    3 stars
I tried it but didn’t like the hot honey. Maybe just regular honey is better???

  10. User avatar willodean.dooley51 says:

Ricotta felt kinda weird on toast. I prefer it in pasta. Just saying. 😕

  11. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

Super quick and I love that it uses minimal ingredients. If you don’t have hot honey, just mix regular honey with chili flakes and hope for the best (works decent).

    1. User avatar antonio.king93 says:

      5 stars
Yes! The minimal ingredients is the best part. I do almost the same thing—hot honey makes it feel fancy in like 5 minutes.

    2. User avatar Elinore Kassulke says:

      3 stars
I tried the “mix honey + chili flakes” thing but it was kinda bland for me 😅 Maybe I should’ve used chili oil instead? Still super easy though.

  12. 3 stars
Is this healthy or just a snack? Not sure how I feel about it…

This is so easy and delicious! I love the combo of ricotta and honey. 5 stars all the way!

  15. User avatar lawerence.reichel61 says:

Yum. But I wish it said how much hot honey per slice. I poured like a maniac and now it’s sticking to my fingers lol.

    1. User avatar elease.parisian90 says:

      5 stars
Haha I’ve done that too 😅 I’d say start with about 1 tsp–1 tbsp hot honey per slice, then add more. The sweetness gets intense fast.

    2. User avatar elwanda.reilly says:

      4 stars
Maybe next time drizzle lightly and let it soak, otherwise it’s like sticky chaos. Also 2 tbsp for the whole recipe should be roughly 1 tbsp per slice… unless you’re feeling extra (which you clearly are).

  16. User avatar chung.roob1962 says:

    5 stars
This sounds amazing! I love the combo of ricotta and honey. Can’t wait to try!

    1. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

Sounds kinda weird, honey on toast? Never thought of that. But hey, who am I to judge? Maybe I’ll give it a shot.

  17. User avatar shantelle.hane97 says:

    4 stars
SIMPOL but TASTY. Thumbs up from me. Used brioche bread!

  18. 3 stars
I think ricotta is too bland. This toast could use something more interesting like peanut butter?

    1. User avatar Blue Dartwing says:

      4 stars
I see what you mean, but hot honey really adds a nice kick to the ricotta. Give it a try before you swap it for peanut butter!

  19. User avatar magaly.hickle1962 says:

Honestly, I’m not sure about this combination. Honey on toast, yes, but ricotta? I dunno…

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      5 stars
I was skeptical too at first, but I promise it’s a game changer! The sweetness of the honey really complements the ricotta. Don’t knock it till you try it!

    2. User avatar lavonia.spencer1963 says:

      3 stars
Ricotta on toast? Sounds weird, but I guess it’s worth a shot. Just not sure if the honey will make it good or weird…

  20. User avatar clelia.emard says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, “hot honey” sounds weird to me. But I was curious—mine was actually tasty. Next time I’ll go lighter on the honey because it got a bit sweet.

    1. User avatar Andres Stiedemann says:

      5 stars
I totally get the “hot honey” hesitation 😄 The sweet + spicy combo is real though. Lighter honey next time sounds like the move—too much and it overwhelms the ricotta.

    2. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      4 stars
Hot honey isn’t weird, it’s just… honey with attitude. 😂 But yeah, go easy on it. I once put way too much on bread and it was basically candy with pepper flakes.

  21. User avatar lois.mayer93 says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps but my toast got soggy somehow? Maybe my bread was too soft or I didn’t serve immediately like it said. Otherwise the flavors were solid.

  22. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
Wasn’t that great for me. The hot honey was way too spicy! I thought it was going to be sweet.

Not really my cup of tea. The hot honey was just too much for me. Maybe less honey next time?

    1. User avatar annita.king1974 says:

      4 stars
I get what you’re saying! The hot honey can be a bit overpowering if you’re not used to it. Maybe try a sprinkle of regular honey next time!

    2. User avatar elsa.abshire68 says:

    2. User avatar woodrow.roberts says:

      2 stars
I dunno… hot honey? Sounds kinda wrong. Honey is for pancakes, not toast! 😕

  37. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    5 stars
This is the best breakfast! So simple but so good! 😍

    1. User avatar anastacia.bogisich says:

    5 stars

Very nice, but what if I don’t have ricotta? Can I use cottage cheese or something else?

    1. User avatar marty.bogan says:

      2 stars
I dunno, cottage cheese feels wrong for this recipe. Just gotta get ricotta, trust me!

    2. User avatar bryan.cronin0 says:

      5 stars
Cottage cheese is a great substitute! It might be a little different texture, but still tasty.

  42. User avatar fidel.maggio1965 says:

    3 stars
I tried it but the hot honey was too sweet for my taste. I think regular honey would be better.

    1. User avatar Crystal Claire Waters says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! Hot honey can be a bit much. Regular honey might give it a nice balance. Have you tried it with maple syrup instead? That’s also good!

  43. User avatar danny.mraz says:

    5 stars
This sounds amazing! I love ricotta and honey together. Can’t wait to try it!

  44. User avatar ruthann.jerde2013 says:

    2 stars
Why would you put honey on cheese? Seems weird, might just stick to butter.

    1. User avatar santos.rolfson14 says:

      4 stars
I thought it was strange too at first, but honey really brings out the flavor of the cheese! You should give it a try before you knock it!

    2. 5 stars
Butter is good, but honey on cheese is a game changer! Trust me, you’ll love the sweet and savory mix. Don’t miss out!

  49. User avatar Dro'marash says:

    2 stars
I dunno… hot honey? Sounds fancy but I think I’d rather just have regular honey. Not sure this is for me.

  50. 5 stars
This was so good! I never thought ricotta would taste so great on toast. The hot honey was a nice touch.

  51. User avatar dee.watsica says:

    2 stars
I used cottage cheese instead of ricotta (don’t judge) and it worked, kinda. The texture was a little grainier but still tasty.

  52. User avatar doretta.stark88 says:

    3 stars
I accidently bought the wrong honey… used BBQ sauce instead! It was interesting to say the least. 😂

  53. 2 stars
Is ricotta even healthy? I mean, it’s cheese, right? Not sure this is a smart choice for breakfast.

  54. User avatar sherwood.mills says:

      5 stars
Right? It’s such a simple idea but so good! I can’t get enough of that sweet and savory mix. 🌟

  55. 2 stars
This is basically bread + cheese + honey, and that’s it. I don’t get the hype. It’s fine, but I wouldn’t call it a full recipe.

    1. User avatar mathWizard says:

      4 stars
Honestly I get what you mean—it’s not a complicated “recipe,” it’s more like an easy 3-ingredient upgrade. But toasted bread + creamy ricotta + hot honey together is the magic.

    2. User avatar maryjane.windler37 says:

      4 stars
Bread, cheese, honey?? sounds like something my grandma would make without measuring anything 😅 Still, if it tastes good, who cares. I’d definitely try it.

  56. User avatar glenn.graham says:

    5 stars
This combo is dangerously good—creamy ricotta + sweet heat is a perfect balance. I used a bit more honey and it was still not too much.

  57. 1 star
Is this really a recipe? Just toast and cheese? I could do this in my sleep… 1 star.

  58. 2 stars
Honestly, this feels like one of those trendy recipes where you pay for vibes. It’s basically toast with cheese and honey. But hey, it is tasty.

    1. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      4 stars
Tbh I get what you mean—sounds super simple—but that’s kinda the point? Toast + creamy ricotta + sweet heat is a great combo. I’ve made it for friends and it always disappears fast 😅

So simple but feels fancy. Next time I’ll add a pinch of flaky salt on top to make the flavors pop even more.

    1. User avatar Monte Effertz says:

      5 stars
Great idea with the flaky salt—those little pops must balance the creamy ricotta and the sweet heat really well. I’m stealing that for my next batch!

  61. User avatar felton.kuvalis says:

    4 stars
Ricotta spread thinly was key for me—if you glob it, the toast gets soggy faster. Still tasty though.

  62. User avatar rocco.rogahn34 says:

    4 stars
I don’t have ricotta, so I used cottage cheese mashed smooth and it came out kinda same-ish. Would recommend if you’re in a pinch.

  63. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    3 stars
Looks yummy, but can I replace the ricotta with cream cheese? I can’t find ricotta anywhere!

  64. 5 stars
This is such a quick upgrade to toast. The ricotta makes it feel fancy, and the hot honey gives it the perfect little kick—ate it standing up because it smelled too good.

    1. User avatar diana.will2016 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—my first drizzle was also way too much 😅 two drops was the move. Still delicious though.

  69. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:
