Skillet Lemon Chicken & Potatoes

April 25, 2024

Skillet lemon chicken and potatoes is the kind of dish that’s both simple to prepare and bursting with flavor. One pan, juicy chicken, crispy potatoes, and a bright, zesty lemon garlic sauce, it’s a comforting, well-rounded meal that will have your taste buds singing without hours of prep.

The key to this dish is the balance of flavors. First, the chicken is seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic, then seared in a hot skillet until golden brown and juicy. While the chicken rests, you toss bite-sized potatoes into the same skillet, allowing them to crisp up and soak in all the delicious juices left behind by the chicken.

The lemon garlic sauce is where the magic happens. A generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice and zest adds brightness and acidity, while garlic, olive oil, and a pinch of thyme or rosemary give it that aromatic richness. You can deglaze the pan with a splash of white wine or chicken broth to enhance the sauce, creating a silky finish that coats both the chicken and potatoes.

Once the chicken is golden and cooked through, and the potatoes are crispy on the outside but tender on the inside, you pour the lemon garlic sauce over everything, letting the flavors meld together. For an extra touch of freshness, garnish with chopped parsley or additional lemon zest.

This skillet lemon chicken and potatoes meal is perfect for busy weeknights, as it requires minimal cleanup. It’s versatile enough to pair with a side of steamed vegetables, a crisp green salad, or just enjoy as is. Plus, it’s one of those dishes that makes great leftovers, so you can enjoy it for lunch the next day.

With its bright flavors, crispy textures, and one-pan simplicity, skillet lemon chicken and potatoes is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. It’s the perfect balance of ease and elegance for any occasion.

Yum! Lemon and chicken go so well together. I added some paprika for a kick and it was delicious!

  2. User avatar raymundo.klocko says:

I’m not convinced about the lemon slices at the bottom—felt like they’d burn. But they actually caramelized a bit and were great.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! I was worried about that too, like the lemon would turn bitter or burn. But caramelization is real—especially since the skillet’s cooking a while under foil. Glad it worked for you!

  3. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

This was fantastic! The lemon gave it such a fresh taste. Will definitely make again! 🍋

So easy to make. Just toss everything in the skillet! Quick dinner. Note: I’m not a fan of thyme tho.

This looks easy, but I’m skeptical about the oven time—chicken breasts can dry out. Still, the recipe seems solid enough to try.

    1. 4 stars
Totally get the skepticism. 35–40 min at 400°F with breast thickness can go either way—I’d check internal temp (165°F) and not just the clock. Covering with foil helps though, so it might stay juicy.

    2. User avatar marge.gerhold1976 says:

      2 stars
I tried something like this and it was dry still 😕 Maybe thinner breasts would be better? Also I think 3 min per side is too long before baking? Not sure. Looks yummy anyway.

  7. User avatar jona.thiel1985 says:

    5 stars
My family loved this one! The kids asked for seconds. Thanks for sharing!

  8. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe but the chicken was dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? 🤔

  9. 5 stars
Low effort, high reward. The broil step is clutch. I served it with a salad and everyone asked for seconds.

  10. User avatar gigi.veum1963 says:

    4 stars
Honestly I skipped the broil step and it was still good. Kinda lazy, but the flavor was there. Would do again.

  11. User avatar francine.mcglynn14 says:

I didn’t have garlic cloves, so I used garlic powder instead. It turned out alright!

  12. User avatar Blue Dartwing says:

    5 stars
Wow, great! I added some paprika and it was fire 🔥. Yum!

  13. User avatar odell.smitham6 says:

This was SUPER easy. I’m not a confident cook and even I got browned chicken in the pan and tender potatoes in the oven.

  14. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    5 stars
This is the best! My whole family loved it, and I’ll definitely make it again!

  15. User avatar millie.marvin says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but my potatoes took longer than 40 minutes to get tender. Next time I’ll slice them even thinner (or par-cook). Still a great flavor combo.

    1. 4 stars
40 minutes?! mine took longer too and I was like… is my oven broke? 😂 I think it’s the potato size and how thick you slice. Next time I’ll go thinner or partially boil. Also, do you preheat the skillet or just stick it in cold? That might matter.

    2. User avatar bea.rolfson54 says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked the flavor! 🍋 I’ve found potatoes at 40 min can be hit or miss depending on thickness—thin rounds or a quick par-cook definitely helps. I usually test with a fork and keep going a few extra minutes if needed.

  16. 2 stars
Looks nice but can anyone tell me if it actually taste good? I got doubts. 🤔

    1. User avatar ima.wintheiser31 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, it seems a bit plain to me. Can chicken and potatoes really be that exciting? 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar claire.raynor says:

      5 stars
I made it last week and it was delicious! The chicken was so tender and the lemons really added flavor. You should try it!

  17. 3 stars
Okay but 35-40 min at 400°F feels like a lot for chicken breasts. Mine came out a tiny bit dry—maybe my oven runs hot?

    1. User avatar homer.tremblay63 says:

      5 stars
Totally possible your oven runs hot. 35–40 min for breasts is definitely on the longer side—mine usually comes out better around 25–30 mins after the skillet sear, then I just broil a couple minutes if I want browning. Next time I’d also check with a thermometer (165°F in the thickest part) so you don’t overcook.

  18. 5 stars
Loved the garlic + lemon combo. It smells amazing while baking. I served it with a simple salad and it was a full meal.

  19. User avatar kenneth.rolfson49 says:

    3 stars
Is it seriously just chicken and potatoes? Can’t we add more stuff?? 😂

  20. User avatar harris.rippin2 says:

    4 stars
Taste like restaurant food, but lemme tell ya, I’ve had better. It was decent tho.

  21. 5 stars
This is definitely a keeper! The lemon adds such a nice zing to the chicken. Perfect balance!

  22. 2 stars
Seems like a lot of work for not enough flavor. The chicken was bland, and I used fresh herbs. Disappointed.

    1. 5 stars
I don’t know what you’re talking about! This recipe is so good! The flavors pop if you use fresh ingredients right!

    2. User avatar Micha Schulist says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear it didn’t turn out well for you! Maybe try marinating the chicken next time? That can really enhance the flavor.

  23. User avatar adolph.marquardt says:

    5 stars
This recipe is super easy and the chicken turned out juicy! My whole family loved it. Will make again!

    1. 5 stars
So glad to hear you loved it! I tried this recipe too, and it was a hit at my dinner party. Definitely adding it to my rotation!

  24. User avatar Android 17 says:

    1 star
Ehh, I don’t cook much. I burnt the chicken. But I swear the lemon smell was good!!

  25. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    4 stars
Easy weeknight dinner! Just what I needed. Will make again for sure! 👍

    1. 5 stars
I made this last night and it was AMAZING! My whole family loved it! 🥳

    2. 3 stars
Looks good, but chicken is too dry. I’d add some broth next time.

  26. User avatar shawanda.mayer31 says:

    3 stars
Lemon chicken?! Sounds fancy! I just threw everything in the pan and hoped for the best. It was decent.

  27. 5 stars
Simple and easy! I used sweet potatoes instead and they turned out great! So tasty.

  28. 1 star
I’m not a cook and this seemed complicated. Pass.

  29. 1 star
Can you make this without potatoes? I have a potato allergy. 🙁

  30. User avatar elizbeth.kling says:

    4 stars
Not bad, but I would double the salt. Also, my potatoes weren’t thin enough so they took longer. Good flavor though.

  31. User avatar cletus.klocko says:

    4 stars
Yum! Perfect for dinner! But I think it is better with more garlic.

  32. User avatar dell.haley56 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and wow—lemon + potatoes is such a good combo. Chicken stayed juicy even after the bake. I used fresh rosemary too and it smelled amazing. Will cook again!

    1. 4 stars
I made something similar but I think my potatoes were too thick… they weren’t tender after the bake. Do you slice them super thin like coin slices? Also, did you use foil the whole time?

    2. User avatar Cody Ankunding PhD says:

      5 stars
Yesss! Lemon + potatoes really does something special. Glad your chicken stayed juicy—broiling at the end is such a good touch too.

  33. 3 stars
I feel like something’s missing. Seemed kind of bland. Maybe more spices next time?

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! A little paprika or cayenne could really kick it up a notch. Spices make everything better!

  34. 2 stars
Thought it was easy to make but took longer than expected. Potatoes didn’t cook all the way. 🤨

    1. User avatar Random Dent says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue with the potatoes! Maybe slicing them thinner would help? 🤷‍♀️

    2. 3 stars
Gotta cook them longer, dude! They need time to get soft. Just put them in earlier next time!

  35. User avatar shakira.pouros73 says:

    5 stars
Loved how the lemon + garlic infused the whole skillet. The broil at the end really makes it look restaurant-level. Will definitely make again!

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! The lemon + garlic combo is sooo good—brilliant that it actually permeates everything in the skillet. I always forget to broil at the end but now I’m convinced 😄

    2. 3 stars
This sounds nice, but 35-40 mins at 400°F seems long for chicken breasts? I’d check earlier (like 25-30) so it doesn’t dry out. Also do you mean broil in the oven after baking—just 2-3 mins?

  36. User avatar Ahmed Wiegand V says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but I found the chicken a bit dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, chicken can be tricky! I usually cook it for less time. Maybe try checking it sooner next time?

  37. User avatar jeneva.lang1986 says:

    5 stars
I made it for my family and they all ate it up. Success! 👍

  38. User avatar brenton.stanton2025 says:

    5 stars
This was amazing! The flavors were so bright and the chicken was juicy.

  39. 3 stars
Lemons in chicken? Weird combo. I’m skeptical but might try it anyway.

    1. User avatar chadwick.hauck says:

      2 stars
Lemons in chicken? That sounds strange. I’ve never heard of that before. How much lemon do you use?

    2. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      5 stars
I thought the same thing at first! But lemons really do brighten up the dish. Just give it a shot!

  40. User avatar mauricio.turner9 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—so good. The lemon slices under the potatoes turn into this tangy, rich bed. I didn’t even miss anything else.

    1. User avatar stephania.willms81 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The lemon underneath is the best part—tangy and somehow still super rich. I made this too and it comes out like a little sauce bed. Great call not missing anything!

    2. User avatar roselyn.bins1 says:

      3 stars
I tried it but I’m confused—my lemons got kinda bitter? Maybe my slices were too thick or I used too much salt. Still good though. Next time I’ll go thinner and watch the broil.

  41. 3 stars
I think it’s unnecessary to cover the skillet. Ovens vary, mine doesn’t need that much time. I made it my own!

  42. User avatar pennie.heller36 says:

    3 stars
Not sure if I did it right. The chicken was kinda dry. Need to work on my cooking skills.

    1. User avatar lawrence.doyle1961 says:

      4 stars
Don’t worry, it happens! Maybe try cooking it a bit less next time or marinating the chicken. It’ll help keep it moist!

    2. 3 stars
Could be the chicken breast you used. They can get dry if overcooked. Just gotta keep practicing!

  43. User avatar thurman.douglas5 says:

    4 stars
This sounds good but I’m skeptical about baking chicken on top of lemon slices—won’t it get too sour? Mine ended up balanced, but I was worried.

    1. User avatar ciara.crona says:

      2 stars
Honestly I think it would be sour IF you put the lemons straight on the chicken. Like wouldn’t the acid just burn it? Mine once tasted kinda like dish soap (lol) when I did lemons that way. Maybe your skillet juices saved it. I’d rather use lemon juice + zest after cooking.

    2. 4 stars
I get the worry, but lemon slices aren’t automatically “too sour.” The potatoes kind of mellow it out as they bake, and the chicken juices dilute it too. If your lemons are super tart, squeezing a little less or slicing thinner can help, but this combo usually turns out bright, not mouth-puckering.

  44. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

    4 stars
I substituted sweet potatoes and it came out fine. Not a big fan of white potatoes.

  45. 4 stars
The steps were clear, but I’m skeptical about layering lemon rounds on the bottom. It sounded weird, then it turned out tasty and not sour.

  46. User avatar collin.schultz says:

    5 stars
This was sooo delicious! The flavors really pop with the lemon. 😍

    1. User avatar omer.borer says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The lemon adds such a bright flavor! 🍋 I’m definitely making this again.

  47. 5 stars
This recipe was super easy to follow! I love lemon with chicken. Delicious!

  48. User avatar Mr. Samira Beahan says:

    5 stars
Just made this—my skillet smelled amazing. The lemon + thyme combo is perfect, and the potatoes actually cooked through without getting mushy. Will do again!

    1. User avatar araceli.paucek68 says:

      4 stars
Nice! I’ve had lemon turn kinda bitter in the oven before though—did you use thin enough lemon slices? Also curious: did you keep the skillet on medium the whole time or just sear the chicken?

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome to hear! Lemon + thyme really does make the whole thing smell like a restaurant. Glad your potatoes stayed tender (not mushy) — I’m going to try it your way.

  49. User avatar Draugr Scourge says:

    5 stars
Yummy, simply yummy! Lemon and chicken is my jam. 🍋👌

  50. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but I think the lemons are too overpowering. Next time I’ll use just one.

  51. User avatar lona.hackett1969 says:

    4 stars
I messed up and forgot the thyme 😅 but it still tasted good. Lemon garlic potatoes with chicken is a win. Will make again.

    1. User avatar Miss Johnathan Brekke says:

      5 stars
Haha that counts as improvising 😄 Thyme is great, but lemon + garlic + rosemary already does a lot. Glad it still came out good—makes me want to try it again!

  52. 3 stars
Not bad, but my skillet wasn’t big enough so everything cooked uneven. Next time I’d either use a bigger pan or layer more carefully. Flavor was nice—just a little messy.

    1. User avatar nickolas.kerluke60 says:

      5 stars
Ugh yeah, the “single layer” part is real—if the skillet’s crowded the potatoes steam and the chicken browns uneven. A bigger pan or baking in batches helps a ton. Glad the flavor still came through though!

    2. User avatar marcellus.labadie96 says:

      3 stars
Maybe your oven time was off? I feel like 35-40 min is too long for 3-min sear chicken, unless the potatoes were super thin. I’d try thicker cuts with less bake time… but bigger skillet sounds easier 😅

  53. User avatar jordan.mckenzie says:

    2 stars
Why do we roast at 400°F? Seems too high, my chicken burned a little. Is it supposed to be lower?

  54. User avatar ute.kerluke93 says:

    2 stars
Skillet? Why not just grill the chicken? Seems like more work for no reason.

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      4 stars
Grilling’s great, but this method infuses the flavors better! Trust me, it’s worth the effort.

  55. User avatar jessica.dibbert91 says:

    2 stars
Not bad but I wish the chicken was less dry. I cooked it per instructions but it just didn’t work for me.

    1. 3 stars
My chicken was fine! Did you flip it enough or maybe overcook it in the oven? Just curious!

    2. User avatar brant.parisian67 says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! Maybe try marinating the chicken longer next time or using a meat thermometer. It might help keep it juicy!

  56. 4 stars
The potatoes took forever to cook! Next time, I’ll pre-cook them a bit. Still yummy!

  57. User avatar Micheal Leuschke Sr. says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and it was… fine. Chicken was juicy, but the herbs felt a little muted. I might add more thyme/rosemary or a pinch of chili flakes for a kick.

  58. 4 stars
Took me way longer than expected! Is it just me or is chicken a pain? 😂

    1. 5 stars
You’re definitely not alone! Chicken can be tricky sometimes, but it’s so worth it in the end! 😂

    2. User avatar Dr. Olive Tremblay says:

      2 stars
Nah, chicken’s easy! Just gotta know how to handle it. Maybe try less time next time?

  59. User avatar michale.romaguera says:

    1 star
    meh

  60. User avatar jamar.kub81 says:

    4 stars
Lemon + chicken? Sounds weird! But trust me, it works! My kids loved it, even with the potatoes.

    1. 5 stars
I was skeptical too, but you’re right! It’s surprisingly delicious! 🍋🍗

    2. 2 stars
Um, sounds kinda gross. Lemon on chicken? I dunno… What about BBQ sauce?

  61. 2 stars
I don’t know if I did something wrong, but my chicken came out dry. I followed the recipe exactly. 🙁

  62. User avatar ronnie.corkery1964 says:

    5 stars
Tasty and quick! And my kids loved it! 🍋🍗

  63. 2 stars
I don’t know about this one. The potatoes took forever to cook, and my chicken ended up burned. Not impressed.

    Yum!

    1. User avatar Babette Becker says:

Lemons and chicken? Sounds weird. But I tried it and wow it’s not bad!

  68. User avatar genia.williamson says:

    1. User avatar micheal.gulgowski75 says:

That’s amazing! I love finding recipes that surprise me. Was it the lemon that made it so good? 🍋

    2. User avatar paulette.lang59 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, chicken’s kinda bland. How can you not like chicken but like this? 🤔

  72. User avatar Stanley Padberg says:

    4 stars
Very tasty, but 35-40 minutes might depend on how thick your chicken is. Mine needed closer to 45. Still totally worth it.

    1. User avatar karena.howell says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Mine was closer to 45 too—thicker breasts always run long. Totally worth it though, the lemon + garlic with the potatoes is so good.

  73. User avatar samual.friesen77 says:

    3 stars
It was good, but my potatoes were mushy. Maybe I overcooked them? Not sure I’ll try again.

  74. 1 star
Looks good, but where’s the ketchup? Can’t be eating chicken without it, right?

  75. 3 stars
I used sweet potatoes instead and it turned out okay I guess. Not bad at all.

  76. User avatar Orange Dartwing says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but had a lot of trouble with the timing. The chicken was still raw inside. 😟

  77. User avatar jewell.nitzsche says:

    4 stars
Easy to make, but my potatoes didn’t cook well. Next time, I’ll pre-cook them a bit first.

  78. User avatar Joy Anna DeLight says:

    5 stars
Yummy!!! 😍 So easy to make as well. My kids devoured it!

  79. 4 stars
I just seasoned the chicken and skipped everything else, it came out great! Who needs all those extra steps? 😂

  80. User avatar katlyn.beer says:

    5 stars
This turned out way more flavorful than I expected—lemon really makes everything pop. The potatoes were perfectly tender after the bake.

  81. User avatar Feral Falmer says:

    2 stars
Kinda dry. I think my oven might be broken or sumthin. Not what I expected.

    1. User avatar randee.streich68 says:

      4 stars
I think you might’ve overcooked it! Ovens can be tricky. Make sure to check your temp next time. 🍗

    2. User avatar priscilla.lueilwitz says:

      3 stars
Dry? That’s weird. I made it last week and it was juicy! Maybe try marinade next time?

  82. 1 star
Why would you put garlic with lemons? Doesn’t make no sense to me. 🤷‍♂️

  83. 2 stars
I don’t understand why you need so many steps. Why not just bake it all at once? 🤷‍♂️

Just made this and it looked soooo good on the plate! Amazing flavor! Love it!!

I forgot the garlic and it still turned out fine! 🤷‍♂️

  86. User avatar wellRespected says:

Good base recipe, but 35–40 minutes felt a bit long for my chicken breasts (they were on the smaller side). Next time I’ll check earlier. Still tasty though!

    1. User avatar allen.hand25 says:

      5 stars
Good point—chicken breast sizes vary a lot. I usually start checking at ~28–30 minutes and pull it once it hits temp. Glad it was still tasty though!

  87. 5 stars
I don’t usually cook with rosemary, but wow—this smells amazing while baking. Like restaurant vibes.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—lemon + herbs in the oven is such a restaurant smell. 😍 I always underestimate rosemary but it really pulls it together here.

  88. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

    4 stars
Can’t believe how easy this was! My kids loved it. I’ll add some veggies next time, tho.

  89. User avatar Bettye Hill says:

    2 stars
The rosemary/thyme amount seems a little much? Mine tasted a bit dusty, not gonna lie. Also my potatoes didn’t brown much after broiling—could be my oven.

    1. 4 stars
Totally hear you. 1 tsp each of dried rosemary + thyme can read “a lot” if the herbs are old or your slices/patatoes don’t get enough browning. Next time I’d do 1/2 tsp of each, and make sure the potatoes are thin + well-oiled. Also broiling really depends on your oven—if it’s weaker, you may need 5 min or a slightly higher rack. Dusty flavor usually means under-browned herbs/low heat time.

Lemon and chicken? Sounds weird. Gonna try it but little hope.

  91. User avatar ernesto.kiehn2006 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is a game changer! The chicken turned out so juicy and flavorful. Will definitely make it again.

  92. 3 stars
Not sure about the lemon on the bottom—mine kind of got a little bitter. Maybe I sliced them too thick. Flavor was okay though!

  93. 2 stars
Meh. Tasted okay but I wanted more seasoning or a thicker sauce. Maybe add some broth? Not sure.

  94. User avatar felton.deckow53 says:

    3 stars
The flavor is great, but my potatoes took longer than 40 minutes to get tender. Next time I’ll slice them thinner.

    1. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

      4 stars
40 min feels too optimistic for large potatoes. I tried it “as written” and they were still hard, so I added time and covered longer. Also the chicken was fine but browned weird—maybe my skillet heat was off? Anyway, good idea with slicing thinner.

    2. User avatar hung.cartwright says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—lemony flavor is amazing. Mine took more like 50-55 min once, and I think it was thicker potato slices too. Thinner rounds + maybe a quick parboil helps a lot.

  95. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    5 stars
Five stars for effort. I made it for my family and everyone went back for seconds. Even the picky one said it was “zesty”.

This is a must try! So easy and it looks fancy too. ❤️

  101. 4 stars
So tasty! But I used too many potatoes and ended up with a mountain. 😂

  102. User avatar lucila.medhurst says:

    4 stars
Could you use different spices? I don’t have thyme or rosemary and don’t wanna buy them.

  103. 4 stars
Pretty solid, but 400°F for 35-40 minutes felt a bit long for my chicken breasts (they were thin). I think checking at 30 min would help. Sauce was still great though.

  104. User avatar oscar.feeney75 says:

    3 stars
I tried this but it didn’t turn out like the picture. My potatoes were hard.

  105. User avatar hiram.grady35 says:

Too much garlic for my liking. My whole house smells like it 😷. But I guess some people might like that…

  106. User avatar marvel.kunze says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about cooking chicken in the skillet then baking with lemon slices, but it turned out really well. Flavor soaked in the potatoes and the garlic wasn’t too strong. Would make again.

    1. User avatar Ka'o Muakagh says:

      5 stars
Same here—I was worried the lemon would overpower everything, but the potatoes actually soaked it up nicely. Also agree on the garlic; it mellowed instead of being sharp. Definitely saving this!

  107. User avatar pearlene.daniel says:

    3 stars
Followed the recipe closely but my potatoes were hard after baking. What did I do wrong?? 😕

    1. 4 stars
Maybe your potatoes were too thick? Try slicing them thinner next time! 😊

  108. User avatar marc.wolf50 says:

    5 stars
Yum! My kids loved it and so did my husband. Thank you for this recipe!

  109. User avatar christopher.feeney says:

Tried this and it was ok. The flavors were there but my potatoes ended up a bit mushy. Maybe a longer baking time?

  110. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

This was so good! The chicken was super juicy and the potatoes were perfect. Will make again!

  111. 5 stars
Absolutely loved this recipe! The lemon adds such a fresh flavor. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar octavio.christiansen says:

  112. User avatar nelson.leuschke64 says:

The potatoes took forever to cook. I think they needed more time than what the recipe said.

    1. User avatar milo.wolf1955 says:

      4 stars
I had the same problem! The potatoes just wouldn’t soften. Maybe it’s the type of potatoes we used? 🤔

  113. 4 stars
Really simple recipe! I added some veggies to it too—carrots and onions. My kids loved it!

    1. User avatar nicolas.medhurst says:

      4 stars
That’s awesome! Veggies always make it better. My kids are picky but I think they’d like this too.

    2. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

      2 stars
I dunno, adding veggies might change the taste of the chicken. I prefer the recipe as is. 🤷‍♂️

  114. User avatar Doris Open says:

    5 stars
This recipe was a hit! The lemon made the chicken so flavorful!

    1. User avatar angle.macejkovic says:

I can see why! Lemon really brings out the flavor. Glad it worked out for you! 🍋

  115. User avatar myesha.koepp says:

Can I use sweet potatoes instead? I wanna try different things! Anyone done that?

  116. User avatar mimi.nikolaus1995 says:

Wasn’t sure about cooking in a skillet at first, but it turned out great. The chicken was juicy! 🙂

  117. User avatar barrett.sipes says:

    4 stars
I love the idea of this dish but honestly, my skillet was a nightmare to clean after! 😂

    1. User avatar ranee.kohler says:

      4 stars
I agree! Skillets can be a pain sometimes. Try soaking it right after cooking, it helps a lot! 😊

  118. 2 stars
Is it just me or does this look kinda bland? I prefer more spices. 😂

  119. 3 stars
Pretty good, but I think 35-40 min was a bit too long for my chicken breasts. They got slightly dry even after broiling.

  120. User avatar Chanda Lear says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I thought this would be better. The potatoes took forever to cook. Wouldn’t recommend.

    1. 3 stars
I had the same issue with the potatoes! They took ages to cook, I think they should be parboiled first. That might help!

  121. User avatar vita.nolan says:

    5 stars
This was delicious! My whole family loved it. Will definitely make again!

  122. User avatar vada.mertz11 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical: 3 minutes per side then 40 minutes in the oven… seems like it might dry out the chicken. But I’m glad it didn’t. Good result, surprisingly.

    1. 4 stars
Totally get your skepticism—40 minutes can sound brutal. But the foil + the lemon/potato moisture probably helps keep things from drying out. Glad it worked out for you!

  123. User avatar annmarie.stamm61 says:

    5 stars
So good! 🍋🐔 I added a pinch of cayenne for spice. Will make again! ✨

  124. 1 star
Lemon chicken? Sounds weird to me… but tried it anyway. Not my fav.

  125. User avatar elanor.stracke6 says:

    4 stars
Easy enough for a weeknight, and it looks fancy when it comes out. I used baby potatoes instead of slicing large ones and they still worked great.

  126. User avatar cathie.bayer39 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have potatoes so I used rice. Still yum!

    1. User avatar raisa.schoen says:

      4 stars
Rice sounds interesting! I might try that next time.

    2. User avatar Majikthise says:

      2 stars
But this is a potato dish! You can’t just swap ingredients like that. 🙄

  127. User avatar ethan.nader4 says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty much, but my garlic burned during the broil… maybe my oven runs hot. Next time I’ll cover a little longer.

  128. 5 stars
Easiest recipe ever!! I can cook now! LOL 😂

    1. 5 stars
Lol, that’s awesome! Cooking can be fun! 🍳 What’s your next dish?

    2. User avatar trinidad.bode18 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, seems too simple. My chicken always ends up dry. 🤨

  129. User avatar brett.champlin42 says:

    5 stars
So good! Kinda confused on step 6 though—like, do you layer everything even if the skillet is small? I did it anyway and it worked. 5 stars!

    1. User avatar zofia.bosco1958 says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked for you! For step 6, the goal is mostly a *single layer* so the potatoes cook evenly and don’t steam. If your skillet’s small, it’s okay to overlap a bit, just know it may need a few extra minutes covered in the oven.

    2. User avatar carolina.skiles65 says:

      4 stars
I always just pile it in lol. Step 6 said single layer but I’m not patient 😅 Still tastes great. Probably more broil time after? I’d rather have dinner than perfect layers.

  130. 2 stars
Couldn’t find dried rosemary so I used fresh. Also, I accidentally forgot the foil first and the tops got browned way too fast. Still salvaged it—would recommend keeping an eye on it.

  131. User avatar laurel.konopelski1995 says:

    1 star
Too many steps! Why not just fry the chicken? It’s pretty easy to do.

    1. 2 stars
Honestly, sounds like too much work for chicken. I mean, 10 steps? Really?

    2. User avatar Maybell Hegmann says:

      5 stars
But if you fry the chicken, you miss out on all those flavors! This is way tastier! 😊

  132. User avatar carina.konopelski says:

    5 stars
This recipe is AMAZING! The chicken came out so juicy and the lemon flavor is just perfect. Will definitely make again!

  133. User avatar alane.bartell45 says:

    3 stars
Why are the lemons just sitting there like that? lol. Also my foil was too tight and it kinda stuck. Still tasted okay though.

  134. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    3 stars
Tried making this for my family, but they said it was too sour. Maybe less lemon next time?

  135. 5 stars
This was the best chicken I’ve ever made! So juicy and flavorful! Will definitely make again.

  136. User avatar erich.marks1979 says:

    1 star
I don’t like lemon in meats… didn’t enjoy this at all.

    1. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! Lemon can be a bit much for some people. Have you tried it without? Could be better that way!

    2. User avatar son.schowalter53 says:

      3 stars
But lemon adds flavor! Maybe you just don’t like it in chicken? Just a thought.

  137. 2 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out… lemony, yes, but also kinda dry? I don’t know what I did wrong. Maybe my breasts were thicker or I over-seared?

    1. User avatar bertha.boyle1997 says:

      4 stars
That sounds like it might’ve just needed a bit more time with the foil on. 35–40 min at 400°F can dry out thicker breasts—also 3 minutes a side on the stove is great for browning, but if the chicken was already thick, it may not have had enough carryover moisture. Next time, check doneness with a thermometer (165°F / 74°C) and maybe add 5–10 minutes, then broil for less.

    2. User avatar mathWizard says:

      3 stars
Dry chicken usually means it got overcooked or the potatoes were too thick so everything cooked uneven. Also, lemon slices can dry out if they were in a tight layer too long—maybe add a splash of water/chicken broth into the skillet before the oven so there’s some steam. Not gonna lie, I’ve done it wrong by accident when I skipped covering tightly with foil 😅

  138. User avatar yasmine.jacobi14 says:

    4 stars
Honestly, I think it needs more sauce. Once the lemons cook down, there’s not much “gravy” at the end, so I drizzled some olive oil + lemon juice after.

  139. User avatar al.bailey40 says:

    4 stars
Really tasty, but I think 3 minutes per side wasn’t enough browning in my skillet. I still baked it the full time though and it came out fine.

    1. User avatar mirtha.lubowitz says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—3 minutes a side can be hit-or-miss depending on your skillet and heat. If it’s not getting that deep browning, I usually give it closer to 4–5 minutes per side or crank the heat a touch (just don’t burn it). Glad it still turned out fine!

  140. 5 stars
Delicious! My kids love it, even with the garlic! Planning to add some herbs from my garden next time!

  141. User avatar antonio.heidenreich57 says:

    2 stars
Why do you need to wear a foil? Waste of time! I just put everything in the oven without it.

  142. User avatar rayford.nitzsche70 says:

    3 stars
This is not how my aunt did chicken 😅. I’m skeptical about baking it with lemon slices on the bottom—felt like they might burn. Mine came out okay though.

    1. User avatar Jerry Atrics says:

      4 stars
Totally get your skepticism 😅 I’ve had lemon slices turn bitter when they sit on the bottom too long. I usually add them later or toss them in olive oil first so they don’t burn.

    2. User avatar doug.frami56 says:

      3 stars
I tried this and my lemons actually browned nicely, so maybe it depends on the thickness and how hot your broiler runs. Also 35-40 min felt a bit long for my chicken—check early!

  143. 5 stars
I didn’t have dried rosemary so I used fresh. Still delicious—way more fragrant. Would absolutely repeat.

  144. User avatar toby.farrell1985 says:

    4 stars
I’m not sure about baking chicken directly on potato/lemon rounds… but it worked! The potatoes got soft and the chicken stayed juicy.

    1. User avatar britt.wisozk30 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome that it actually came out juicy! I’d be nervous about the potatoes drying the chicken out, but baking under foil makes sense. What thickness were your potato rounds?

  145. User avatar sara.powlowski83 says:

    2 stars
Lemon and chicken together? That’s just weird.

  146. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

    2 stars
Not sure about putting lemon slices at the bottom. Mine went a little bitter/charred when I broiled. I’d reduce broil time or cover longer.

  147. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

    4 stars
I think the oven time could vary a lot depending on how thin your potato rounds are. Mine took closer to 50 minutes, but it was still delicious.

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—potato thickness makes a huge difference. I always do a quick check around the 35–40 min mark and keep going if the rounds are thicker. Glad yours still turned out delicious!

  148. User avatar fredrick.maggio50 says:

    1 star
My potatoes fell apart and the chicken was dry. Not the best! 😔.

  149. User avatar lorrie.koss says:

    2 stars
Lol i forgot the foil and it still turned out ok?? potatoes were a bit dry but flavor was decent.

  150. User avatar numbers.kiehn48 says:

    3 stars
It was just okay. I found it a bit bland. Maybe needed more spices or something.

    1. User avatar arlen.lebsack73 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! I had the same experience. A little more spice would really elevate it!
