Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Wrap

August 11, 2023

If you love the rich, savory flavors of a Philly cheesesteak but are looking for something a little more portable or easy to eat, a Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Wrap is the perfect solution. This dish takes all the elements of the beloved sandwich, tender beef, melted cheese, sautéed onions, and peppers, and wraps them up in a warm, crispy tortilla for a hand-held meal that’s packed with flavor.

The beauty of a Philly cheesesteak grilled wrap lies in its simplicity and versatility. The filling is typically made with thinly sliced beef, seasoned just right to bring out its natural flavors. Onions and bell peppers are sautéed until tender, offering a subtle sweetness that balances the richness of the beef. Once everything is cooked, it’s all wrapped up with melted cheese, usually provolone or American, that melts beautifully inside the tortilla, creating a gooey, irresistible texture.

What makes the grilled wrap special is the crisp, golden exterior. When you grill the wrap, the tortilla crisps up, giving a satisfying crunch while keeping all the delicious fillings inside. The contrast of textures, from the crispy tortilla to the soft, melty filling, is what really elevates this dish and makes it so satisfying.

These wraps are incredibly customizable. If you like things spicier, add some sliced jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce. You can also swap in different cheeses or add mushrooms for an extra layer of flavor. The wrap is also great for meal prep, simply make them ahead of time, wrap them tightly, and grill when you’re ready to eat.

Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Wraps are an easy-to-make, delicious twist on a classic sandwich. They’re perfect for lunch, dinner, or even a quick snack that’s sure to fill you up and satisfy your cravings for bold, comforting flavors. Whether you’re on the go or dining at home, these wraps bring the flavors of Philly right to your fingertips.

The roll-up method is genius—crispy tortilla + melty provolone. I used ribeye and it still worked great. Will make again for sure!

  2. 5 stars
I added mushrooms and a little garlic powder and it turned out amazing. If you like the Philly vibe, this is a win.

So easy! Crisp wrap, melty cheese, and that steak-onion combo is spot on. Family devoured it.

    1. User avatar reanna.farrell says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—those flavors go so hard together. I added a little extra onion and it still crisped up great. So easy too 😋

WAIT A MINUTE, aren’t cheesesteaks supposed to be on bread, not tortillas? Seems wrong…

    1. User avatar Duncan Idaho says:

      4 stars
I get what you’re saying, but it’s a fun twist! Get creative sometimes!

  5. 2 stars
I tried it exactly, but my tortillas tore when I folded them. Maybe I rolled too hard? The filling was great, just the assembly went sideways.

    1. User avatar geoWizard says:

      4 stars
Ugh, tortillas tearing is the worst. If you rolled too hard or the tortillas were too dry/cold, they’ll split. Next time warm them a bit before assembling (quick microwave or skillet) so they stay flexible.

  6. 4 stars
Yum! I added mushrooms and it really kicked it up a notch!

    1. 2 stars
Mushrooms? Really? I don’t know about that, seems off for a cheesesteak.

  7. 5 stars
Wow! I never thought I could make something so tasty at home! Will make it again for sure!

  8. User avatar tommy.lakin73 says:

    4 stars
I don’t eat green peppers, so I used mushrooms instead. Worked fine. 👌

  9. User avatar ahmad.robel says:

    1 star
What kind of cheese is provolone? Is that even a real thing? I used cheddar instead. Lol!

  10. User avatar Gertha Satterfield DVM says:

    2 stars
This looks fancy! But I bet it takes forever to make. Who has time for that?

    1. 2 stars
Takes too long for me, I just microwave my meals. Who needs all that chopping and frying? 😅

    2. User avatar Cecily Dare DVM says:

      4 stars
It might look fancy, but it’s actually pretty quick! Just a few minutes of cooking after you prep everything. Totally worth it!

  11. User avatar barney.altenwerth7 says:

    4 stars
Mine leaked cheese like crazy… probably because I didn’t place the provolone right. Still delicious, but it made a mess on the skillet. Would recommend letting wraps rest a minute before cutting.

    1. 3 stars
Mine leaked too, and I think it’s the tortilla more than anything. Like the cheese slides right out because the wrap is too wet from the filling. I’d try draining the cooked peppers/onions a bit, or cook the wraps a little longer. Still tasted great though.

    2. User avatar merlene.pfannerstill61 says:

      5 stars
Oof—yeah, provolone is basically a chaos gremlin when it melts and leaks 😅 I’ve found resting 1–2 minutes really helps it set up before cutting. Next time, maybe use a slightly thicker cheese layer or don’t overstuff the tortilla so it stays contained.

  12. 5 stars
Tried this tonight and it actually tastes like a legit Philly sandwich—cheese gets all melty and the wrap is crispy. Only thing I’d change is cooking the steak a tiny bit longer for more browning. 10/10 comfort food.

  13. User avatar werner.kshlerin says:

    2 stars
Is provolone the only cheese that works? I used cheddar once and it didn’t melt the same. Not a fan of the flavor here, sorry.

  14. 5 stars
Tried this tonight and it seriously scratches the cheesesteak itch. The provolone melting inside a crisp tortilla is such a good move—will make again.

  15. User avatar lessie.kuhn2006 says:

    5 stars
Honestly, Philly cheesesteak wraps are underrated. This scratches the itch without all the bread mess. I used yellow onion and it was great.

    1. User avatar eric.tromp1975 says:

      3 stars
Yellow onion? I usually do white, but I guess it’s fine. Also, “drizzle of olive oil” is kinda vague—how much are we talking? Still looks tasty though. Not sure my tortillas will get crisp in only 2-3 minutes per side.

    2. User avatar majorie.beier says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I’ve made these exact vibes before but never called them “Philly wrap” 😄 Cutting the bread mess is the move. I’ll use yellow onion next time too—glad it worked!

  16. 3 stars
I tried this recipe, but the steak was too chewy. Maybe should’ve used a different cut of meat?

  17. 3 stars
Idk why but my onions stayed kinda raw after 3-4 min. I ended up adding a splash of water and covered it for a bit. Flavor was good once softened.

  18. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

    5 stars
    Amazing!!!

    1. 5 stars
Right?? The grilled wrap format is such a cheat code—juicy steak + melty provolone is perfect.

  19. User avatar Tamie Kunde says:

    5 stars
Made this for dinner last night—so good. The provolone melting inside the tortilla is perfect, and the crisping step actually makes it feel like a real cheesesteak without the bread. 5/5.

    1. User avatar leonie.mckenzie says:

      5 stars
Love hearing that! The provolone melt is definitely the key—glad the crisping step nailed the cheesesteak vibe for you.

  20. User avatar Spider Guardian says:

    3 stars
The timing feels a little off to me. My steak took longer than 2–3 minutes and got chewy. Next time I’ll slice thinner or cook hotter. Flavor was still solid.

    1. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

      5 stars
That sounds frustrating—chewy steak usually means it’s overcooked or the slices weren’t as thin as intended. I’d definitely try slicing even thinner (almost shave-level) and cranking the heat so you can brown it fast without drying it out. Also, letting the steak rest off-heat for a minute before it hits the tortilla can help keep it tender.

  21. User avatar gregory.runolfsson says:

    4 stars
I followed it mostly, but I forgot to reheat the skillet properly before crisping the wraps. They came out more soft than golden. Still tasty though—my kids asked for seconds.

  22. User avatar tory.leffler40 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out kind of bland 😕. Maybe I under-salted? The peppers were yummy though. Would definitely bump up the seasoning and maybe add a little garlic powder.

  23. 4 stars
My wrap leaked cheese everywhere lol. I think I put too much filling. Still tasted amazing, but I’d recommend less steak mixture per tortilla so it rolls tighter.

  24. User avatar leif.moore15 says:

    5 stars
This was AMAZING!! My whole family loved it, thanks!

  25. User avatar normand.schamberger says:

    5 stars
These are amazing! Just like the ones I had in philly. Can’t believe how easy it is!

  26. User avatar patrick.crona1998 says:

    5 stars
Tried this tonight—so good. The provolone melts perfectly and the wraps get that nice crispy outside without falling apart. My onions were a little too brown, but still tasted like Philly vibes.

  27. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about using tortillas for a Philly. But the onions and peppers inside really work. The crisp outside helped convince me.

    1. User avatar tova.kirlin58 says:

      3 stars
I get it, but tortillas for Philly? I’d rather do the classic hoagie roll. Also 4 slices provolone seems like a lot—mine would melt out and make a mess. Still, crisp outside is a point.

    2. 5 stars
Honestly the tortillas thing makes sense to me. Philly sandwiches are all about the cheesesteak vibe—crisping the wrap is just the “griddle” version. Glad the onions/peppers came through!

  28. 4 stars
Really tasty, but mine was a little greasy. I think I used too much oil when crisping the wraps. Next time I’ll use less and drain the filling.

    1. User avatar dorsey.kshlerin63 says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked it! Grease usually happens when the oil in the final crisping step is a bit too heavy—your plan to use less and drain the filling sounds spot on. Next time I might also blot the steak/onion mix with a paper towel before rolling.

  29. User avatar stephen.williamson says:

    5 stars
Made these last night—so good. The provolone melts perfectly and the tortilla gets that nice crunch. I added a little garlic and it tasted like a deli sandwich.

  30. User avatar chas.prosacco51 says:

    3 stars
I followed it and the tortillas didn’t crisp as much as I hoped. Next time I’ll press them a bit more or cook longer. Still edible though!

  31. User avatar vito.hermiston0 says:

    2 stars
1 pound steak was way more than I needed. I had leftovers and the wraps were kind of overloaded. Next time I’ll halve the filling.

  32. User avatar harvey.zulauf55 says:

    5 stars
This is my new go-to—fast, filling, and the wraps get that golden crunch like street food. I added mushrooms because I’m that person. No regrets.

  33. User avatar Ma'randru-jo says:

    3 stars
I followed it mostly, but my wrap kinda fell apart when I flipped it. I think I overfilled and didn’t crisp long enough. Still tasty though—maybe I’ll use smaller filling next time.

  34. 3 stars
Tried it, but the steak was too chewy. Not what I expected. Might try again but with less cooking time.

  35. 4 stars
Looks easy and delicious. Perfect for weeknights! Got 2 wraps out of it so far—planning to make again.

    1. User avatar luis.abernathy says:

      4 stars
Made it last night and it was good, but I think 2-3 min for the steak might be a bit too short if your slices are thicker? Mine was a little chewy. Still, the flavor was there!

    2. 5 stars
Totally agree—this is such a quick weeknight win. I like how you crisp the tortilla at the end; makes it taste way more “restaurant” 😄

  36. User avatar Annette Curtain says:

    5 stars
This turned out way better than I expected. Crispy tortilla + melty provolone is such a good combo. I used ribeye and it was super flavorful. Will definitely make again!

  37. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    4 stars
Honestly it tasted like a cheesesteak but in a wrap, which is what I wanted. The provolone helped a lot. My only complaint is it got a little greasy in the pan.

  38. 3 stars
Meh. it was okay. Not the best and not the worst either. 3 or 4 I guess.

  39. 5 stars
Yum! I added some hot sauce. Spicy!

  40. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about skipping the hoagie roll. But the flavor was there—onion + pepper + provolone combo is perfect.

  41. User avatar leigh.considine says:

    4 stars
This is a solid idea, but I found 2–3 minutes for the steak a bit short with my pan. Next time I’ll cook a minute longer or slice it even thinner.

  42. User avatar danica.ryan says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but my onions took longer than 3-4 minutes to really soften. Also, I added extra cheese because… why not. Good flavor overall.

  43. User avatar phillip.kuvalis says:

    5 stars
Tried this tonight and it actually tastes like a legit Philly situation. The crisping in the skillet is key—so good.

  44. User avatar chante.gaylord1982 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe, but I think 2-3 minutes for the steak might be a bit short for my pan—mine needed like 4-5. Also added a little garlic powder and it tasted more “steakhouse.”

  45. 5 stars
This is a fantastic recipe! They turned out so delicious and my family loved them! 5 stars!

    1. User avatar kindra.mante says:

      5 stars
I’m glad you enjoyed it! This recipe is a hit in my house too! 😍

    2. User avatar lanette.damore78 says:

      3 stars
Really? I tried it and my steak was tough. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  46. User avatar julie.cronin2009 says:

    2 stars
Too many onions! Made it sweet and soggy. Plus, where’s the garlic?

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      3 stars
No garlic? That’s weird. I always add garlic to my cheesesteaks. But onions are good! Not too many tho.

    2. User avatar walker.mills says:

      4 stars
I think the sweetness might come from cooking the onions too long. Try less time next time! And garlic would be a great addition for flavor!

  47. 4 stars
I made it, it was good. Like pizza but with meat right? Yeah.

  48. 3 stars
The instructions are clear, but I felt like it was missing something—like a little garlic or Worcestershire. It was good, just kinda plain.

  49. User avatar ronald.medhurst4 says:

    2 stars
I tried provolone, but cheddar would’ve been better. Provolone tastes kinda bland to me. Also, I used too much oil and it splattered everywhere.

    1. User avatar Lia Conroy says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—provolone can be a little mild compared to cheddar. Cheddar would definitely punch it up more. Also, for the oil splatter, try using just a thin film and don’t crank the heat too high; thin steak + cheese makes everything “spready” fast.

    2. User avatar Majin Buu says:

      4 stars
Yeah I tried this once and it was kinda wet lol. Maybe you should use less oil like the directions say… and provolone is fine, but if you want sharper flavor just mix in some cheddar. Or broil the cheese on the tortillas for a sec? (Not sure if that’s right but it helps.)

  50. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

    3 stars
Not bad but I think it needs more seasoning. Like garlic powder or a splash of Worcestershire would make it pop. Salt/pepper felt a little plain.

  51. User avatar delena.wintheiser39 says:

    5 stars
Wow, this recipe looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it. Definitely my kind of food!

  52. User avatar Cave Bear says:

    5 stars
Great recipe, but a tip: let the meat rest after cooking. Makes it juicier! 👍

  53. 3 stars
Followed the recipe but my cheese didn’t melt right. What did I do wrong?

  54. 5 stars
10/10 would eat again. The bell pepper gives it that fresh bite. Also my tortilla browned perfectly after 2 minutes a side.

    1. User avatar Snow Bear says:

      5 stars
This sounds awesome—my kind of “fast but tastes legit” meal. The bell pepper really does make the filling pop. I’m definitely trying the 2 minutes a side thing on the tortillas, because mine usually take forever to brown.

  55. User avatar trent.bartoletti says:

    3 stars
Good but honestly not what I expected. I’ll stick to my normal sandwich!

  56. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I’m skeptical about cooking the steak only 2-3 minutes—mine was kinda chewy. Maybe my slices were thicker. Flavor was decent regardless.

    1. User avatar anneliese.crona says:

      4 stars
Yeah, 2–3 minutes can totally be too short if the slices aren’t super thin. I usually do it closer to 3–4 depending on thickness—chewy steak is never the goal 😅

  57. User avatar bronwyn.bradtke says:

    3 stars
The cook time felt short for the peppers in my pan (they were still crunchy). Maybe my skillet runs cool. Still good though.

    1. User avatar lauran.waelchi14 says:

      3 stars
Mine were crunchy too and I thought my skillet was fine… turns out I had them cut thick-ish. Next time I’ll cook the peppers first before adding steak, or turn the heat up a bit. But if you like that bite, it’s not terrible 😅

    2. User avatar fe.cassin1963 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, 3–4 minutes can be a little optimistic for bell peppers depending on how thin/sauté-ready they are. I usually go a touch longer or cover the pan for the first minute to steam them. Glad it still tasted good though!

  58. User avatar dominique.nader71 says:

    3 stars
I dunno, it was okay, but my steak came out tough. Maybe I did something wrong?

  59. User avatar mathWizard says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty but I think 1 lb steak was a bit much for 4 tortillas depending on how generous you are. I ended up with leftovers and the peppers were a little salty. Still, would make again.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree on the tortillas—1 lb steak can be a lot depending on how packed you fill them. I usually bump it down or use smaller tortillas. Glad you’d make it again!

    2. User avatar Mr. Hannah Kulas says:

      4 stars
Interesting. I didn’t have leftover issues with 4 tortillas, but I do slice the steak pretty thin. Maybe my pepper/onion ratio is different—salty peppers happens if the pepper gets seasoned too hard.

  60. User avatar leonida.beer says:

    5 stars
This was soooo good! The cheese melted perfectly. Definitely a keeper!

    1. User avatar vincent.nader2025 says:

      5 stars
So glad you liked it! The cheese really makes it special, right? 😋

    2. 2 stars
It was alright, but I think it needs more seasoning. I don’t get the hype. 🤷‍♀️

  61. User avatar stuart.goodwin says:

    5 stars
This is my go-to recipe for game night! It’s a hit every time.

    1. User avatar Samwise Gamgee says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! These wraps are always gone in minutes when I make them. They’re just so delicious!

    2. User avatar shayla.kub says:

      2 stars
I tried it but my tortillas fell apart. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  62. User avatar kennith.larson says:

    5 stars
Super easy and really filling. My whole family ate them without complaining (rare!). I used cheddar because that’s what I had, and it still slapped.

  63. User avatar trinh.rosenbaum2009 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid, but I’d add mushrooms next time. Also my steak cooked faster than 2-3 minutes because it was super thin, so I had to watch closely. Still tasty though!

    1. User avatar velva.braun3 says:

      5 stars
Nice! Mushrooms would be such a great add—especially with the provolone. And yeah, super thin steak can cook way faster than the 2–3 min. Next time I’d probably slice even thinner “watch it like a hawk” style 😄

    2. User avatar daphne.wilkinson2013 says:

      3 stars
2-3 minutes seems kinda short to me. If it was thin then ok, but I usually need longer. Also 1 onion and 1 pepper for 4 wraps feels light? Still, glad it was tasty though.

  64. 4 stars
I made these for my kids and they loved em! Quick and easy, just like I like it. 😊

    1. 3 stars
Quick and easy? Sounds too good to be true! Are you sure the steak cooks right in that time? 🤔

    2. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Kids can be super picky, so it’s great they loved it! Did you add any extra toppings?

  65. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars!! sooooo good 😋

  66. 4 stars
Yum!! I added mushrooms and loved it. Totally making again!

    1. User avatar cyril.mueller says:

      5 stars
Mushrooms sound like a great addition! I love when people customize recipes. Can’t wait to give it a try!

    2. 2 stars
Nah, mushrooms might ruin the taste. Stick to the original recipe! But if you liked it, that’s what counts.

    1. User avatar shirlene.gorczany says:

      3 stars
“Meh” is fair—this looks like a solid cheesesteak wrap, but it’s missing that classic Philly vibe for me. Still, the provolone + quick sear sounds good.

  67. 4 stars
I’m not usually a tortilla person for cheesesteak, but the provolone melt worked great. Would make again.

  68. User avatar francina.ward says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about grilling tortillas like this, but it’s actually great. The onions and peppers got nicely soft. Next time I’ll caramelize the onions a little longer.

  69. User avatar mitchell.weber45 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have provolone, so I used cheddar. Still tasted good!

    1. User avatar jason.littel60 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, but isn’t provolone kinda the point? Cheddar’s good but not the same!

    2. 5 stars
Cheddar is a great substitute! It’s all about what you have on hand. Glad it turned out tasty!
