Orange-glazed Easter ham is a festive centerpiece that brings together sweet, citrusy brightness and rich, savory flavor in one beautifully caramelized dish. Traditionally served during Easter celebrations, this glazed ham is both visually impressive and deeply satisfying, making it perfect for sharing with family and friends.
The preparation begins with a fully cooked ham, often scored in a diamond pattern to help the glaze penetrate the surface. This simple step not only enhances the flavor but also creates an elegant presentation. As the ham warms in the oven, it slowly releases its natural juices, keeping the meat tender and moist throughout the cooking process.
The highlight of this dish is the orange glaze. Made with fresh orange juice, zest, brown sugar, and sometimes a touch of honey or mustard, the glaze strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. The citrus notes brighten the richness of the ham, while the sugar caramelizes during baking, forming a glossy, flavorful coating. Brushing the glaze over the ham in layers allows it to build depth and create that signature sticky finish.
As the ham roasts, the glaze thickens and turns slightly golden, enhancing both texture and taste. The result is a beautifully glazed exterior with a juicy, tender interior that slices easily and serves effortlessly. Each bite offers a combination of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors that feel both comforting and празднично.
Orange-glazed Easter ham pairs well with a variety of side dishes such as roasted vegetables, creamy potatoes, or fresh spring salads. These sides complement the richness of the ham while adding color and balance to the table, creating a complete and inviting meal.
Despite its elegant appearance, this dish is surprisingly simple to prepare, making it ideal for both experienced cooks and beginners. Orange-glazed Easter ham is more than just a meal, it is a celebration of tradition, flavor, and togetherness, perfect for marking a special holiday with warmth and style.

Ingredients
- 1 whole spiral-cut ham about 8-10 pounds
- 1 cup orange juice freshly squeezed preferred
- 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon orange zest freshly grated
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and place the ham in a roasting pan.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the orange juice, brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, orange zest, and ground cloves.
- Cook the glaze mixture until the sugar dissolves and it becomes slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Brush half of the glaze over the ham, making sure to cover it evenly.
- Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until heated through, basting occasionally with the remaining glaze.
- Remove the foil during the last 15 minutes of baking to allow the glaze to caramelize.
- Let the ham rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Delicious! But I thought there was too much honey. I’m going to cut it back a little next time.
My first time making a ham and it turned out perfect! This recipe is a keeper.
Tried this for Easter, but the glaze burnt. 😢 Any tips to prevent that?
Great recipe! I added a pinch of cinnamon to the glaze and it was fantastic!
Cinnamon sounds like a unique twist! I’ll have to try that next time.
This is pretty good, but I had to bake mine longer than 2 hours. My ham was thicker/colder to start. Glaze tasted amazing though.
Glad it worked out for you! Totally makes sense about the thickness—2 hours is more of a guideline than a rule. Did you go by temp at the end or just “heated through”?
2 hours? Mine never took that long at 325°F… maybe your ham was like, suuuper thick. Also I might’ve used too much Dijon? Glaze was still tasty though lol.
Quick and easy to make. I didn’t measure my honey, just poured. LOL. It worked.
I thought ham is supposed to be salty not sweet, I guess I’m old-fashioned.
This ham was a hit at our family gathering! Everyone loved the orange glaze!
It was okay, but I think I would prefer a more savory glaze next time. Too sweet for me.
Sooo good! I didn’t have orange juice, so I used pineapple juice instead. Still yum!
Can anyone tell me if I can use soda instead of orange juice? Sounds weird but I’m curious!
DIY Orange Ham is 😍! I made it just like ya wrote, but my glaze was too runny!! What went wrong?
Maybe you added too much juice or not enough sugar? Gotta get that balance right for a good glaze! 🍊🙃
Too sweet for my taste, I won’t be making this again. 🙁
Ham is ham man! Just eat it with sides and it will taste great! 😁
What’s the point of the cloves? They didn’t really add anything for me.
Came out super sweet for me—like dessert ham vibes. I’d cut the brown sugar by like 1/4 cup next time.
Not gonna lie, 325°F feels low for 8-10 pounds, but it worked. The glaze caramelized nicely at the end and didn’t burn.
Yummy!!! A must try for Easter! Can’t wait to impress my family. They gonna love it!
Super easy and smelled amazing while baking. I used bottled orange juice once and it was still okay, but fresh squeezed is way better (duh).
I’m skeptical about ‘spiral-cut’ being worth the hype—mine dried out a little around the edges even with foil. Maybe I overbasted? Flavor was still nice.
This recipe is incredible! The orange glaze gives the ham a nice sweet touch. I used this for Easter brunch and it was a hit! ❤️
This sounds amazing! I can’t wait to try it for my family’s dinner next week. The orange glaze idea is so creative! 🍊
Hmm, I don’t know about the orange flavor with ham. Seems like an odd combo to me. Is it really that good?
I don’t know about adding cloves, I’ve never liked that flavor. The rest sounds good, but I’m skeptical if it will taste good.
I get it, cloves can be strong! You could always just leave them out. The glaze should still taste amazing without them. Trust me, it’s gonna be good!
Ham always seems so complicated to cook. Why do we even put orange juice on it? Seems weird to me. I just want it salty.
5 stars just because it’s orange and it made my kitchen smell like Easter™. I followed it mostly… kinda forgot the zest and it was still decent 😅
Made this for Easter and it turned out gorgeous—sticky, glossy glaze and the orange flavor isn’t overpowering. Followed the 10-minute rest too; slices were way cleaner.
I love that the glaze is so simple. Next time I might add a pinch of cinnamon because my family likes warmer spices, but it’s already a win.
I’m not sure about adding cinnamon… clove already brings the spice vibes. But hey if your family likes it warmer, maybe like 1/4 tsp? Either way sounds good. My ham always dries out though 😬
Totally agree—this glaze is foolproof. Cinnamon sounds amazing with the orange + cloves though. I might try a tiny pinch too next Easter!
The Dijon + orange zest combo is surprisingly solid. I didn’t use cloves (didn’t have them) and it still tasted great.
