No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

September 3, 2024

No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies are the ultimate dessert hack for anyone who loves the taste of homemade cookies but dreads the thought of turning on the oven. These cookies are a magical blend of rich cocoa, creamy peanut butter, and hearty oats, all coming together to form a deliciously chewy, fudgy treat. The best part? You don’t need to be a seasoned baker to make them. In fact, you don’t need to be a baker at all. Just a stovetop, a saucepan, and a few simple ingredients are all it takes to whip up a batch of these indulgent delights.

The beauty of these cookies lies in their simplicity. With just a handful of pantry staples like rolled oats, sugar, butter, and cocoa powder, you can create a dessert that satisfies even the fiercest chocolate cravings. The recipe requires minimal effort, no fancy equipment, no chilling, and definitely no baking. You simply melt the ingredients together, mix in the oats, drop spoonfuls onto parchment paper, and let them cool. The result? Perfectly set, glossy cookies with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes it hard to stop at just one.

But these cookies aren’t just about convenience, they’re also surprisingly versatile. You can easily tweak the recipe to suit your taste or dietary preferences. Want to make them a bit healthier? Swap out the sugar for honey or maple syrup and use natural peanut butter for an extra protein boost. For a nut-free version, sunflower seed butter is a fantastic alternative. You can even toss in some shredded coconut, dried fruit, or a handful of chopped nuts for added texture and flavor. No matter how you customize them, these cookies always hit the spot.

No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies are a nostalgic treat for many, reminiscent of childhood afternoons spent in the kitchen, waiting impatiently for the cookies to set. They bring together the timeless combination of chocolate and oats in a way that feels both classic and fresh. Whether you’re looking for a quick weeknight dessert, a fun activity to do with kids, or a satisfying treat that doesn’t require heating up the kitchen, these cookies are sure to become a go-to favorite.

Soo sweet! I think they are too sugary for my taste. Next time, I will reduce the sugar.

  2. 3 stars
I found this recipe to be too sweet for my taste. Could use less sugar, maybe? 🤔

  3. User avatar carleen.ritchie37 says:

    2 stars
Not sure what I did wrong, but mine came out too gooey. More oats maybe?

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, adding more oats could help! I usually do a cup if I want them less gooey. Good luck!

  4. User avatar monte.schinner says:

    2 stars
Not my fave. They turned out too gooey and messy. 😕

  5. User avatar houston.kutch1977 says:

    4 stars
The instructions are pretty straightforward, but I think the boil time matters a lot. I rushed it the first batch and they stayed kinda gooey. Second batch was perfect.

  6. 1 star
Why not just bake them? 🤷‍♂️ Not a fan. I prefer the crunchy cookies from the oven.

  7. User avatar dewitt.kunze83 says:

    3 stars
Imo, they’re okay but kinda bland. I’ve had better cookies before.

  8. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars
Made with brown sugar instead and they came out awesome! Try that instead! 👏

  9. User avatar kristian.kautzer29 says:

    5 stars
These are dangerously easy. I boiled the mixture a full minute and the texture came out perfect—like classic no-bakes. Chocolatey and not too sweet.

  10. 5 stars
Never tasted something like this before, but im not a baker. So yummy! Thank you for sharing.

  11. 5 stars
These cookies are a lifesaver! Super easy and my kids love them. Will definitely make again!

  12. User avatar Mrs. Emmitt Tremblay says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe but my cookies turned out too gooey. What did I do wrong?

    1. User avatar deandre.wisoky1997 says:

      3 stars
I think they just need more time to cool. Mine were gooey too, but after a while they hardened up pretty good.

    2. User avatar bradley.goldner says:

      4 stars
Maybe you didn’t let them boil long enough? The boiling is super important for setting them right.

  13. User avatar Ilene Dover says:

    5 stars
These cookies are amazing! Super easy to make and oh so delicious! 😍

  14. User avatar teddy.kohler says:

    4 stars
Delicious! I added some chopped nuts for a nice crunch, and it was a hit!

  15. User avatar taylor.beer says:

    4 stars
Simple and delicious! Perfect for a quick snack. Will definitely make again!

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, they look good but isn’t it too sweet? Seems like a sugar overload to me!

    2. User avatar ali.larson92 says:

      5 stars
I agree! They are super easy and perfect for a quick treat.

  16. 2 stars
Mine didn’t set at all. I boiled longer than 1 minute but it stayed runny, so maybe my heat was off or the peanut butter was extra oily. Taste was okay but texture was a fail.

    1. User avatar kristle.russel68 says:

      4 stars
Ugh, that’s frustrating! If it stayed runny after boiling, it usually means the sugar didn’t reach the right temp/consistency. Next time, don’t just “boil for 1 minute”—wait until it thickens a bit and looks glossy, and keep the heat steady (a low simmer won’t do it). Also, if your peanut butter was extra oily/natural, it can throw off the texture—stir it really well or use a creamier/regular one.

  17. 5 stars
These cookies are so good! I can’t believe they’re no-bake. Made them for my kids and they devoured them!

  18. User avatar tamisha.lemke says:

    4 stars
I forgot the peanut butter and they still turned out alright. Kinda surprised!

  19. User avatar kelvin.dubuque1971 says:

    3 stars
Umm, I forgot the cocoa powder and they still turned out okay. But like, I wouldn’t call them cookies. More like blobs!

    1. 5 stars
Blobs or not, if they taste good, who cares! Sometimes you gotta just roll with it. 😊

  20. User avatar Mayor Dotour says:

    5 stars
Cookies!!! They taste amazing! A bit messy but who cares?

    1. User avatar randell.swift says:

      5 stars
Yum! I love these cookies, they are so quick to make! 😋

    2. 4 stars
Messy? You mean sticky! But still, I can’t resist them. Just make sure to have a glass of milk ready! 😂

  21. User avatar efrain.bartoletti says:

    5 stars
These cookies are to die for! Super easy and tasty! I made them for a party, and everyone loved them. Definitely a 5 star! 😍

I think these are a bit of a lie. Cookies without baking? What’s next, pizza in a bag? 🙄

    1. User avatar rob.toy79 says:

      5 stars
Nah, it’s legit! No-bake cookies are super easy and taste just as good. Give em a try! 😋

    2. User avatar Anika Stoltenberg says:

      4 stars
I get your point! But they do actually taste great! No baking doesn’t mean no flavor! 🍪

  24. User avatar cheryll.luettgen40 says:

    3 stars
idk, seemed too sweet to me. i might half the sugar next time but keep the cocoa. also my oats were a bit dry? anyway fun recipe

    1. User avatar cleo.jacobs says:

      5 stars
Totally get it—2 cups of sugar is a lot. If you cut it in half next time and still keep the cocoa, that sounds like it’ll balance way better. My oats get a little dry too if I don’t stir fast enough after boiling.

    2. User avatar taylor.raynor says:

      3 stars
idk i followed it and mine turned out like candy, way too sweet. i didn’t even think the 1 minute boil mattered? next time i’ll use less sugar for sure. maybe your oats were dry cause quick oats is supposed to be already moist?? lol

  25. User avatar dinorah.bogisich81 says:

    5 stars
Soooo good. No bake for real. My kids helped and they want again tomorrow. 10/10

    1. User avatar The Allitnils says:

      3 stars
Maybe I did something wrong? Mine got kinda grainy/crumbly and wouldn’t really set—boiled 1 min though. Still tastes good, just not cookie-cookie. Any tips?

    2. User avatar karissa.schaden38 says:

      5 stars
Yesss! That “no-bake for real” line is exactly why I love this recipe. My kids always beg for more too 😄

  26. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

    2 stars
Not bad, but I prefer my cookies baked. These taste a bit odd for my liking.

  27. User avatar benito.greenholt says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have cocoa powder, so I used chocolate syrup instead. Still turned out yumm!

  28. User avatar royce.kuphal says:

    1 star
Meh, tasted too much like fake chocolate. Not my fav.

    1. 3 stars
I kind of liked them, but I can see why you’re not a fan. Maybe try using real chocolate instead?

  29. User avatar winford.funk79 says:

    3 stars
I tried these but they didn’t hold together… My fault or the recipe?

  30. User avatar frankie.friesen59 says:

    4 stars
    Yum! 🙂

  31. User avatar brad.schuppe says:

    5 stars
These are dangerously easy. The 1-minute boil is the key—I did it exactly and they set up perfectly. Chocolatey and chewy!

  32. User avatar angel.hilpert78 says:

    3 stars
This recipe is way too sweet! 2 cups of sugar?? I think next time I’ll cut it in half.

  33. User avatar luz.leffler78 says:

    3 stars
Eh, they were alright. Not the best cookies I’ve ever had.

  34. User avatar scott.boyer2000 says:

    5 stars
5/5 for the flavor. The chocolate is rich and the peanut butter cuts the sweetness nicely. I lined my tray with parchment instead of wax paper and it still came off easily.

  35. 4 stars
World’s simplest chocolate oat thing. I added a pinch of cinnamon and it was instantly better. Also I used dark cocoa—rich and not too sweet.

  36. User avatar willena.legros says:

    4 stars
Took me longer than 30 mins to cool, but worth the wait. Yum!

  37. User avatar miranda.ortiz2001 says:

    3 stars
No-bake? I’m skeptical! Sounds too good to be true. How can you trust a cookie that doesn’t even go in the oven? 🤔

    1. 5 stars
I was skeptical too, but these cookies are actually really good! Give them a try! 😋

  38. User avatar boyce.dibbert says:

    4 stars
Yummy! But I’m not sure if you can really call these cookies since there’s no baking involved!

  39. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added some crushed nuts for a little extra crunch. Will make again!

    1. 3 stars
Nuts? I thought it was just oats and chocolate… won’t that be too much? Just sayin’.

    2. 5 stars
That sounds amazing! I love the idea of adding nuts for crunch. I bet it tastes even better!

  40. User avatar evita.crist says:

    2 stars
My grandma used to make something like this but it had raisins. I think I prefer those better.

    1. User avatar Gurney Halleck says:

      4 stars
Raisins would add a nice chewiness! I can see why your grandma’s version is your favorite.

  41. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

    4 stars
Can I use normal oats instead of quick cooking??

    1. User avatar vania.zemlak2 says:

      2 stars
Nah, quick oats are made for this recipe. Normal oats won’t work as good!

    2. User avatar jay.stoltenberg1950 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, you can use normal oats, but the texture might be a bit different. They might take longer to soak up the moisture, too.

  42. User avatar Hillman Hunter says:

    4 stars
Not bad at all for no-bake. I used almond butter by accident (couldn’t find PB) and they still came together, but the taste was a little off. Next time I’ll stick to peanut butter.

    1. User avatar Draugr Thrall says:

      5 stars
Good to hear they still set! Almond butter can be a bit drier/stronger tasting than peanut butter, so that “off” flavor makes sense. I’d definitely match the recipe next time—also make sure your almond butter is creamy, not the more oily kind.

  43. User avatar william.schmeler1979 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe but forgot the sugar, they tasted terrible. Please check your ingredients! 😩

  44. User avatar Dwarven Centurion says:

    5 stars
I could eat these all day long. Can’t believe they’re no-bake, that’s genius!

  45. User avatar Hillman Hunter says:

    5 stars
No-bake cookies that actually set without fuss? I’m impressed. Next time I might add a pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth.

    1. User avatar Orange Dartwing says:

      5 stars
Seriously though—these sound like the kind that don’t turn into sticky blobs. Love that you mentioned they set in ~30 min. Might try adding cinnamon next time too 👀

    2. 3 stars
I tried no-bakes before and they never set right… I always boiled way longer. Do you think cinnamon could make them softer? Either way I like the idea of peanut butter in them.

  46. User avatar rodrick.bartoletti88 says:

    5 stars
These are so easy to make and taste amazing! A family favorite now. Thanks!

  47. User avatar geoffrey.bernier60 says:

    3 stars
My first batch didn’t set at all… I think I didn’t boil long enough. I re-made them and actually timed it—worked way better. Still tasty, just messy the first time 😅

  48. User avatar loria.hirthe57 says:

    4 stars
Not really a cookie person, but this was pretty good. I might make ’em again.

  49. User avatar brian.hyatt says:

    2 stars
1 minute boil is too short in my opinion. Also I accidentally used salted butter and it tasted a little weird—still ate them, just not “repeat” weird.

    1. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      4 stars
Totally hear you—1 minute can be a little aggressive depending on your stove. I usually watch for it to look glossy and slightly thick before counting the minute. And dang, salted butter can throw off the balance even with the added salt… but at least they were still edible 😅

    2. 2 stars
Bro 1 min boil is fine… I do it all the time. If it tastes weird it’s probably the cocoa or you needed more vanilla lol. Salted butter should be almost same though?

  50. 5 stars
These remind me of childhood cookies. I like that there’s no oven drama. Also, the texture with quick oats is spot on—chewy, not dry.

  51. User avatar candelaria.swaniawski63 says:

    2 stars
Not really what I expected… they were kinda crumbly and not sweet enough for my taste. Maybe I did something wrong?

  52. User avatar tanner.dickens48 says:

    2 stars
Not a fan of oats. I like chocolate but oatmeal cookies just don’t work for me. Sad face.

  53. 5 stars
I can’t believe we don’t have to bake them! What a time saver. These are now my go-to for potlucks.

  54. User avatar dorian.hyatt1965 says:

    3 stars
These cookies are great, but I wish they had more chocolate flavor! 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar chris.bartoletti says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! More chocolate would be YUM. Maybe try adding chocolate chips next time? 🍪

    2. 3 stars
I liked them just fine! But maybe you’re right, a bit more chocolate would make them better? 🤔

  55. User avatar leesa.auer88 says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about the 1 minute boil—seems too short. Mine got too soft even after cooling longer. Maybe my burner runs cool? Anyone else adjust time?

    1. User avatar jean.hahn91 says:

      2 stars
Nah 1 min sounds right tbh. Maybe your oats are different? If you used regular oats or old quick oats they get mushy. I’d also try lowering the milk or boiling harder. Mine never came out soft.

    2. User avatar karan.blanda says:

      5 stars
I used to doubt the 1 minute too—then I started actually watching for a real rolling boil (bubbles that don’t stop). If it’s just barely boiling, it needs longer. Mine set fine after like 90 seconds, and I always let them cool a full 45 min.

  56. User avatar crystal.smitham1986 says:

    5 stars
I love no-bake desserts because I hate turning on the oven. These were chewy and satisfying. My kids kept asking for “just one more,” lol.

  57. User avatar hector.monahan24 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but these turned out better than I expected. Great recipe!

  58. User avatar dino.howe11 says:

Just made these with my friend, and we finished them in under an hour. Instant classic!

  59. User avatar Dremora Lord says:

    5 stars
OMG these cookies are da bomb!! Highly recommend for all the chocoholics out there!! 🍪❤️

  60. User avatar mel.bailey35 says:

    3 stars
The recipe says wax paper, but I used parchment and it stuck a little. Cookies came out fine once they were chilled longer. Flavor though? Great.

    1. User avatar darryl.dare1 says:

      5 stars
Good to know about the parchment! Wax paper vs parchment is such a chaos difference—mine usually sticks too if I don’t chill/let them set longer. Flavor checks out though, so I’ll keep making them! 😄

  61. User avatar marivel.schaefer says:

    1 star
I don’t trust recipes with ‘no-bake’ in the title… what if they don’t taste good????

  62. User avatar leesa.strosin says:

    5 stars
Tried these today—super easy, and the chocolate flavor is legit. I boiled a full minute like the recipe says and they set perfectly after 30 min. Will make again!

  63. User avatar ellamae.blick89 says:

    3 stars
I have a better recipe that uses bananas instead of butter! This one’s okay tho.

  64. User avatar whitney.paucek78 says:

    5 stars
Perfect for snack time! Love how quick they are to make! 10/10! 🌟

  65. User avatar cedric.zulauf92 says:

    3 stars
Good but messy to make. I had chocolate everywhere! 😂

  66. User avatar gina.heller67 says:

    5 stars
These were gone in a minute! My family loved them!

  67. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

    3 stars
I don’t know… the mix seemed too runny and they didn’t set well. Maybe I did something wrong?

  68. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    3 stars
I cooked it a bit too long and they were hard as rocks. Still edible tho.

    1. User avatar treasa.mante46 says:

      3 stars
      I don’t think it’s possible to ruin cookies that bad! They’re already no-bake! 😂

    2. User avatar jeane.hill says:

      4 stars
Hard as rocks? That sounds rough! Maybe next time check them earlier? They’re usually soft when they set up right.

  69. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

    3 stars
I forgot to add milk and they still worked out fine, not sure what the milk did honestly.

  70. User avatar scottie.sauer87 says:

    5 stars
Quick and easy! Even my husband who hates cooking helped out making these. 😂

    1. User avatar teddy.roberts says:

No bake? I thought that was impossible! Surprisingly good though, I’m impressed!

    1. User avatar carlo.runolfsson97 says:

      5 stars
I know right? I thought no-bake meant it’s just a myth! These are like magic cookies!

    2. 2 stars
Meh, I don’t get it. Why not just bake them? Seems kinda lazy if you ask me.

  74. User avatar azalee.white68 says:

    4 stars
YUM! I used almond butter instead of peanut butter, and I still loved them! Great recipe!

  75. User avatar sean.mraz says:

    5 stars
These turned out so good—rich chocolatey flavor and the texture is exactly what I wanted. I let them boil the full minute and they set up nicely.

    1. User avatar lilian.gulgowski says:

      5 stars
Yes! That rich chocolate taste is exactly why I make these. I also do the full minute boil and they set up perfectly—no gritty texture. Great review!

    2. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Goku says:

      4 stars
Huh, I think mine didn’t set right last time—maybe I didn’t boil long enough? I just kinda watched it bubble and hoped lol. Gonna try again with the full minute, thanks!

  76. User avatar vicky.green10 says:

    5 stars
Wow! Can I eat these for breakfast? They taste like dessert.

    1. 2 stars
I don’t know about breakfast. Sounds kinda weird. Cookies in the morning?

    2. User avatar paige.kreiger says:

      5 stars
Absolutely! Who says cookies can only be for dessert? These are great anytime!

  77. User avatar aaron.dach55 says:

    4 stars
What is oatmeal doing in cookies? Sounds weird, but a friend said they were awesome. Gonna make this!

  78. User avatar dorinda.balistreri16 says:

    2 stars
Why do we have to boil? Can’t we just mix everything?

  79. 5 stars
These cookies are AMAZING! So easy to make and so delicious. Definitely a hit with my kids!

I’m so glad to hear that! My kids love them too! They’re the perfect treat.

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the no-bake part, but they actually held together. Mine were a bit softer than the photo vibes, though still delicious.

Could I swap the peanut butter for almond butter? Also does quick-cooking oats mean instant oats? I used the wrong thing and they were kinda chewy.

I think I messed up the recipe. Mine didn’t set right. Very gooey!

You probably didn’t boil it long enough. I always make sure to really watch the time! Gooey cookies ain’t the best 😅.

Don’t worry! Mine were gooey too at first. Maybe try letting them cool a bit longer next time.

I don’t know… no-bake cookies? Isn’t that just lazy? Do they really taste good?

I don’t know… they turned out kinda dry for me. What did I do wrong? 😕

I dunno, they seem a bit too sweet for my taste. I prefer cookies with less sugar more chocolaty flavor.
