Monster Meatballs

October 29, 2024

Monster Meatballs are a spooky, fun, and delicious addition to any Halloween table. They take the classic comfort of juicy, savory meatballs and give them a playful twist perfect for entertaining kids and adults alike. Whether served as an appetizer, main dish, or part of a Halloween-themed snack board, these creepy little bites are guaranteed to steal the show.

The magic of Monster Meatballs is all in the decoration. Once the meatballs are cooked to golden perfection-whether baked, pan-fried, or air-fried, they transform into quirky little monsters with just a few creative touches. Edible eyes made from mozzarella slices with olive centers or candy eyes (for a sweeter, more playful version) give each meatball a fun personality. You can use strips of cheese, bell pepper, or even thinly sliced vegetables to create fangs, tongues, or spooky smiles.

For an extra Halloween vibe, serve the meatballs over a pool of “bloody” marinara sauce, letting the bright red color create a deliciously eerie effect. Arrange them on a platter with toothpicks, skewers, or even spaghetti nests dyed with black food coloring to take the theme to the next level. They can also be tucked into sliders, pita pockets, or wraps, turning simple meals into festive Halloween fun.

Monster Meatballs are incredibly versatile, you can stick with classic beef, turkey, or chicken, or go for plant-based versions using lentils, beans, or meat alternatives for vegetarian guests. Add herbs, spices, and cheese into the mixture for extra flavor, then let your imagination run wild with decorations.

Not only are they tasty, but they’re also a great activity to get kids involved in the kitchen. Everyone can decorate their own monster, making mealtime both creative and interactive. These meatballs bring together everything you want in a Halloween recipe: flavor, fun, and just the right amount of fright.

Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef lean
  • 1 cup bread crumbs preferably fresh
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 can green olives sliced in half
  • 200 grams spaghetti cooked

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
  • Roll the meat mixture into small balls, about the size of a walnut, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Remove meatballs from the oven. Using the sliced olive halves, place two on each meatball to form ‘eyes’.
