Confusing recipe! What’s with the boiling water?? Does that actually work?

  2. 3 stars
I found it too sweet for my taste. Maybe less sugar next time?

    1. User avatar jonas.kuhn says:

      4 stars
I totally agree! It was way too sweet for my liking too. Cutting down the sugar could really help.

  3. 3 stars
This recipe reads like it should be amazing, but mine came out kinda flat. I followed steps exactly (including boiling water), so not sure what happened.

  4. 4 stars
Wasn’t sure about the boiling water part… it looked weird but tasted great!

  5. 5 stars
This cobbler is amazing! The combo of chocolate and berries is just perfect. My family devoured it in no time. Will make again!

  6. 5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The chocolate and berries combo is just perfect. My family loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  7. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, I found it a little too chocolatey for my taste. I might cut the cocoa next time or use less berries. Texture was nice, just flavor balance was off.

Gobbler? Cobber? Coblber? What the hell is this? Can I just call it berry cake?

    1. User avatar joelle.kertzmann44 says:

      4 stars
You can definitely call it berry cake if that makes it easier! lol But the name kinda fits the mix, right?

Not really a fan of dark chocolate. If I make this again I’ll use white chocolate chips instead.

    1. User avatar beverley.mueller1967 says:

      3 stars
I get that! White chocolate would be yummy too, but it’s not a real chocolate. Just sayin’.

    2. User avatar tawnya.little35 says:

      4 stars
Nah, dark chocolate is where it’s at! But hey, personal taste, right? You do you!

Are you kidding me? Pouring boiling water on it? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!

  11. User avatar Phil DeGrave says:

    4 stars
The boiling water step is genius. I was skeptical, but it turned out nice and gooey in the middle.

  12. User avatar ji.hettinger26 says:

This was amazing! The chocolate and berries are a perfect match. I can’t stop eating it!

Sounds good, but chocolate and berries? Really? I dunno, that seems like a weird combo to me…

I totally agree! This cobbler is like a party in my mouth! Can’t get enough of those flavors!

  13. 2 stars
I don’t know, seems kinda weird to mix chocolate and berries. Didn’t turn out like I hoped.

  14. 2 stars
Wait… ‘1 tbsp cornstarch’ but then only 2 cups berries? Seems like it’d be too thick or too runny. Mine was kinda runny, but still okay.

  15. User avatar lindsey.lubowitz84 says:

    5 stars
I made this for my family and they loved it! Will definitely make it again!

Mixed berry cobbler? Is that even a thing? Sounds weird but kinda interesting. Maybe I’ll give it a shot.

    1. User avatar jeremy.mitchell12 says:

      2 stars
Sounds kinda odd to mix chocolate with berries. I dunno if I’d like it. Anyone tried it already?

I’ve never heard of a mixed berry cobbler, but chocolate makes everything better! I’m down to try this.

Wow, this really does sound fancier than it is! Gonna try it for my dinner party! 🍴

  19. User avatar maya.muller says:

    3 stars
Um, is this actually a cobbler? More like a cake if you ask me lol.

  20. User avatar lorenzo.abshire15 says:

    4 stars
Tastes amazing, but I did have to bake closer to 40 minutes for it to set in the middle. Also, my batter was a little thick so the spoonfuls didn’t spread much—still totally fine though.

  21. 3 stars
Too chocolate-forward for me personally. Like, I wanted more berry and less cocoa. Still good though, just adjust ratio or use less cocoa if you’re berry-leaning.

    1. User avatar hyman.hettinger33 says:

      5 stars
I totally get what you mean—this one leans really cocoa-y. I tried cutting the cocoa to like 1/4 cup and it helped a lot. Still tasted chocolatey but the berries actually came through.

    2. User avatar kristeen.hane1952 says:

      4 stars
Hmm I liked the chocolate-forward vibe 🤷‍♂️. Also maybe I used “more berries” but I swear it came out a bit dry for me—next time I’ll add a splash more milk. But yeah, good dessert.

  22. User avatar lee.ratke60 says:

    4 stars
Yummy!!! I can’t wait to make this for my family! Looks easy too.

    2. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

      3 stars
It seems a bit too easy, are you sure it will taste good? I’m skeptical.

  23. User avatar yasmin.block2006 says:

    5 stars
Soooooo gooood!!! Made it last night and everyone loved it!

  24. 3 stars
I accidentally used too much water! It was a soup. Still tasty tho! lol

  25. User avatar burt.bradtke1973 says:

    2 stars
I tried making this and it didn’t turn out as expected. The water made it too soggy. Maybe less water next time?

    1. 4 stars
I feel you! Sometimes the water can really mess things up. Less water or even trying a different baking pan might help next time. Good luck!

  26. User avatar tequila.durgan says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! I tried it last night and everyone loved it!

  27. User avatar genia.lehner60 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy. I added a pinch of cinnamon to the batter and it tasted like a fancy dessert. Would absolutely make again.

  28. 3 stars
I followed the recipe but it didn’t set. Maybe I added too much water? 🤷‍♀️

  29. User avatar Kandy Ruecker says:

    3 stars
Mixed berries with chocolate? Is that even a thing? Sounds weird, but maybe I’ll give it a shot. 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar shane.kunze2023 says:

      3 stars
I don’t know man, that sounds kinda sketchy. Berries in chocolate? Just seems off, but maybe it surprises us! 🤔

    2. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

      5 stars
Mixed berries and chocolate is a classic combo! It’s sweet and tart, you’ll love it! 🍫🍓

  30. 4 stars
The boiled water step is weird at first, but it actually helps make it gooey under the crust. I was skeptical and now I’m a believer.

    1. User avatar adell.kreiger1979 says:

      5 stars
Huh, I thought the boiling water would just make it soupy, but “gooey under the crust” actually makes sense. Going to try it—thanks!

  31. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but mine didn’t get super “golden” on top. Maybe my oven runs hot/cold? Still tasted like a cross between brownies and fruit dessert.

  32. 3 stars
I followed the recipe exactly, but it came out kinda dense and not very “cobbler-ish.” Next time I’d maybe use a little less cocoa? Still decent with ice cream.

    1. 4 stars
That sounds frustrating! If it was dense, I wonder if the boiling water step didn’t fully “steam” the batter—like it might’ve sunk straight in. Also, 1/2 cup cocoa can definitely make it heavier. I’d try a bit less cocoa or add a touch more baking powder next time.

  33. User avatar Arwen Evenstar says:

    5 stars
This is comfort food for sure. I served it with vanilla ice cream and it was gone fast. Could be even better with dark chocolate instead of cocoa powder maybe?

    1. User avatar nada.dibbert says:

      5 stars
Ooh vanilla ice cream sounds perfect. And yeah—swapping cocoa powder for dark chocolate could make it richer and more fudgy, just make sure you still get the right thickness in the batter. If the chocolate is extra thick, you might need a splash more milk. Can’t wait to try it!

  34. User avatar josiah.hackett says:

    3 stars
Followed the recipe exactly, but mine came out a bit dry after 35 minutes. Next time I’ll start checking at 28-30 and maybe use slightly less flour.

  35. User avatar Bilbo Baggins says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I expected more of a cobbler texture. Mine was more like a chocolate berry pudding cake. Still delicious, but if you want classic cobbler vibes, you might want to adjust.

    1. User avatar Cave Bear says:

      5 stars
Nah I think you’re right on point: with boiling water poured over, it’s kinda gonna steam + bake like a pudding cake, not a classic crumble topping. If you want texture, you might skip the boiling water or bake longer.

    2. User avatar phillis.blick says:

      4 stars
Totally get what you mean—mine did the same thing. I’m still calling it cobbler-adjacent though 😄. Next time I’ll try less batter and maybe a thicker batter so it bakes up more “biscuit-y.”

  36. User avatar Hillman Hunter says:

    5 stars
Wow. Just wow. This cobbler is everything! Got seconds and thirds! 🍫🍓

  37. User avatar criselda.abbott says:

    4 stars
Yum! I used blackberries instead of blueberries. Still turned out great! Will make again!

    1. 4 stars
Blackberries are a good swap! I like experimenting with different fruits too.

    2. User avatar hosea.weimann says:

      2 stars
But isn’t that kinda not the same? Blueberries and blackberries have diff tastes!

  38. User avatar modesto.oconner29 says:

    3 stars
Flavor is solid, but the ingredient list is weird—like the berries line has extra stuff (raspberries, blueberries), and it made me pause. Would be nicer if it was formatted better.

    1. User avatar mitchell.ritchie1985 says:

      5 stars
Yeah I totally get what you mean—my ingredient line is a mess. I copied it from my notes and the berries got jumbled (like “raspberries, blueberries), strawberries” 🤦). Thanks for flagging it—I’ll reformat/clean that up. Flavor-wise though, it should still work with mixed berries!

  39. User avatar Mandy Prohaska says:

    4 stars
The flavor combo is legit. I was worried about pouring boiling water, but it makes this nice pudding/cobbler texture. Next time I’ll add a pinch more salt to the batter.

  40. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so cozy. The berries got nice and jammy and the chocolate flavor is legit. I used frozen berries and it still worked great. Will repeat!

  41. User avatar harvey.botsford7 says:

    4 stars
So easy to make! I used frozen berries instead and it still tasted great. Will make again for sure! 😊

I tried it with frozen berries too and it turned out awesome! So good! 😍

    2. User avatar shenika.orn says:

      2 stars

    Too much cocoa. meh.

  43. User avatar luke.okuneva says:

This recipe is a game changer! I loved the combination of chocolate and berries, it was sooo delicious! Definitely a 5 star.

    1. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, chocolate and berries seem a bit weird together to me. Not sure I’d like that. 🤔

  44. User avatar migdalia.botsford32 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! My family loved it and it’s so easy to make.

  45. User avatar noah.rosenbaum65 says:

    2 stars
Too much cocoa for my taste. I think I’d cut the cocoa in half next time or add a sweet topping.

  46. 4 stars
Yummy!!! I didn’t have cocoa powder so I used hot chocolate mix instead. Turned out fine! 😋

  47. 3 stars
Honestly the flavor is good but the texture was weird—like it didn’t fully set for me. Could be my oven. Still ate it all though 😂

    1. 5 stars
Totally get it—cobbler texture can get weird if it doesn’t set in the middle. Did you bake the full 30–35 minutes (and not pull it early)? Also, oven temps can be off; next time you could bake 5 more minutes and let it rest 10 minutes so it firms up. I’m glad the flavor was still on point though 😄

  48. User avatar yuki.collier31 says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added some nuts to the cobbler for a crunchy texture, worked great! Will make again for sure.

  49. 4 stars
I didn’t have cornstarch so I used flour instead. Still turned out good!

  50. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Kwaltz says:

    4 stars
I’m giving 4 stars because it’s chocolatey and not too sweet. The crusty top is my favorite part. One tweak: I sprinkled a tiny bit of extra cocoa on top before baking.

  51. 5 stars
This is so delicious! The chocolate and berries are a perfect combo. 5 stars!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! Chocolate and berries are like a match made in heaven. Just made this and my family devoured it! 😊

  52. User avatar maricela.ferry2026 says:

    4 stars
Not sure why the ingredients list has “raspberries, blueberries), strawberries” (extra bracket?) but the recipe itself worked. I’d recommend slightly thick berries like with cornstarch coating.

  53. User avatar porter.schultz7 says:

    4 stars
Wow, the chocolate flavor is really rich! But I think it needed more berries. Also, why use cornstarch? Isn’t that for thickening?

  54. 5 stars
Made this for dessert tonight and it’s seriously so comforting. The cocoa batter + berries combo is perfect, and the boiling water trick makes it super fudgy. 10/10.

  55. User avatar sang.huels1983 says:

    3 stars
Not convinced about “cobbler” vs “cake” because the top turned more fudgy than cakey. Also, 2 cups berries with all that sugar is a lot—could be less sugar for my taste.

    1. User avatar emmitt.jones74 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean—mine also went fudgy in the middle, but the edges were more “cake-like.” Still tasted amazing though. Maybe bake it 5 min longer?

  56. User avatar leonora.schmidt says:

    1 star
Not a fan of chocolate with berries… just doesn’t work for me IMO.

    1. User avatar blake.yundt says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! Chocolate and berries can be a weird combo. But I love them together! Everyone has their taste, right?

    2. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      3 stars
Nah, chocolate with berries is the best! You’re missing out on the sweet and tart contrast. Give it another shot!

  57. 5 stars
Soo good! You can taste the chocolate and then the tartness from the berries, yum! 😍 I didn’t have vanilla so I skipped it and it was still delicious!

    1. User avatar augustine.bernhard says:

      5 stars
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Skipping the vanilla is a brave choice, but it sounds like it worked out! 😄

  58. 5 stars
Made this tonight—wow. The chocolatey top + tangy berries is such a nice combo. I used frozen berries and it still turned out great. 10/10 comfort dessert.

  59. User avatar tamekia.mills81 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but mine took a few extra minutes to fully set. Also, I accidentally used salted butter once and had to add a tiny pinch more sugar. Still tasty though.

  60. 3 stars
Used only blueberries because that’s what I had. Turned out good, but the berry juices didn’t thicken as much as I expected—maybe I skipped cornstarch? Anyway, still dessert-worthy.

  61. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    2 stars
Ok this was kinda messy but in a good way lol. If you don’t like runny desserts, don’t pour all the boiling water.

  62. 5 stars
This was so good! The berries burst and the chocolate is just perfect!

  63. User avatar jeremiah.mitchell34 says:

    2 stars
I found this recipe hard to follow, especially the steps about mixing the berry and cocoa part. Also, too much sugar for my taste. Sorry, but it’s a no for me.

  64. 3 stars
Nice idea, but I used frozen berries cause that’s what I had and it didn’t taste great. Fresh ones are a must!

  65. User avatar eric.schumm10 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about pouring boiling water over it, but it worked. Mine took closer to 38 minutes though, not 30-35.

  66. User avatar marvin.murray says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, and it was a hit! Will definitely make again.

  67. User avatar Humma Kavula says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it turned out dangerously good. The cocoa + berries combo is legit, and the top gets that nice golden crust. I used frozen berries and didn’t thaw—still worked!

  68. User avatar Courtney Beer says:

    3 stars
I tried it but my top never really got golden. I think my oven runs cool? The middle was good anyway, so I’ll retry with higher temp.

  69. User avatar jordon.reynolds94 says:

    3 stars
I had to leave out the berries because I didn’t have any. Still turned out pretty decent!

    1. User avatar palmer.dooley9 says:

      4 stars
Glad to hear it turned out decent! Sounds like a good way to improvise!

    2. User avatar rueben.casper15 says:

      2 stars
No berries? That’s like making pizza without sauce! How do you expect it to taste good?

  70. User avatar tammy.mosciski says:

    4 stars
The top got nice and brown, but I found it a bit too sweet for my taste. Maybe because I used very ripe berries. Otherwise good.

    1. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      5 stars
Thanks for sharing! That makes total sense—very ripe berries can add extra sweetness, so it’ll tip the balance. Next time you could cut the sugar a bit (or use slightly less ripe berries) and it should still brown nicely.

  71. User avatar sherika.rice2011 says:

    4 stars
Too much sugar for my taste, but my kids loved it.

  72. User avatar rex.strosin46 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—super comforting. The chocolate sponge + berries is a great combo. I added a little extra vanilla and it tasted like a bakery dessert.

    1. User avatar genevieve.boehm46 says:

      5 stars
That sounds amazing—“bakery dessert” level comfort food! Your extra vanilla addition makes total sense. Did the sponge stay nice and fluffy after baking?

  73. User avatar Jack Koelpin says:

    3 stars
I think it’s missing something… maybe cinnamon or nuts? Idk, just feels off.

    1. User avatar kiley.senger24 says:

      5 stars
I agree! A sprinkle of cinnamon would really enhance the flavor. Try it next time!

  74. User avatar orville.fritsch says:

    5 stars
So good, I could eat the whole thing in one sitting! But it made a mess in my oven, haha.

    1. User avatar shaquana.zieme15 says:

      5 stars
Haha, I’ve had that oven mess too! But it’s totally worth it for that deliciousness. 😋

  75. User avatar francis.bruen says:

    5 stars
Wow. Easy and tastes like restaurant dessert. I served it with vanilla ice cream and everyone asked for the recipe. 10/10 would make again!

  76. 4 stars
The instructions are super clear, but I almost messed up the boiling water part. Pouring it on really helps the texture. Mine took closer to 38 minutes though.

  77. 1 star
Mixed berries? Why not just use choclate? This recipe sounds weird.

  78. 5 stars
I’m skeptical about the boiling water step… but okay, wow. It turned out way better than I expected. Took about 35 minutes for me.

    1. 4 stars
Boiling water step sounds like one of those “trust me bro” instructions 😅 I accidentally used cold water once and it didn’t set right. But with boiling water it actually comes together.

    2. 5 stars
I was the same way—boiling water seems weird—but it makes sense when it bakes. Mine took closer to 40 minutes though. Still turned out great!

  79. User avatar linh.jacobi88 says:

My batter was super thick, like cookie dough, and I worried it wouldn’t spread. Spoiler: it still came together, but I wish it noted that spooning is the whole point.

Totally get that—this one’s definitely more “drop/spoon batter” than pour. The boiling water helps loosen everything while it bakes, so the thick texture isn’t a mistake.

Tried this tonight—so chocolatey and the berries made it taste super fresh. The boiling water step is a little weird at first, but it turns into that nice gooey texture.

This recipe is amazing! The chocolate and berries combo is just out of this world. Everyone loved it! 😍

Chocolate and fruits? Weird combo! Not for me. I prefer my desserts to be less… strange.

I don’t trust recipes that say “pour boiling water” like it’s no big deal 😅 but it ended up okay. Could be sweeter—maybe more sugar next time.

  84. 3 stars
Pretty good dessert idea, but the “boiling water” step seems weird to me. I followed it exactly and it turned out okay, just confusing at first. Next time I might reduce the water by a splash.

Tried making it today but it turned out too watery. I think I might’ve messed up somewhere. 😕

I don’t understand why you put boiling water on it? That seems odd. Could it ruin it?

    1. 5 stars
I was confused about the boiling water too! But it’s actually meant to create a nice texture when baking. Trust the recipe! 😊

    2. 2 stars
Boiling water? Really? I don’t know, sounds risky. What if it gets soggy? I’ll stick to my old recipe.

I tried making this and it didn’t work out at all. My cobbler was like soup. What did I do wrong? 🤔

  88. User avatar romaine.prohaska18 says:

I tried it but it was too sweet for me… I’d probably cut down the sugar next time. Maybe 3 stars?

I totally get you! I find most desserts too sweet too. Reducing the sugar sounds like a great idea! 😋

Mixed berries? Choco cobbler? Wow! Sounds fancy! I’m gonna try this for sure, but what’s cornstarch? Can I just use flour?

Delish! This is going into my recipe book for sure! 🍰

Mixed berries?? Why is it not called berry cobbler with choclate? Might confuse my buddies.

This was super easy to whip up! My kids loved it. Will try with other fruits next time!

Yum!! I never thought of mixing choclate with berries! You’ve opened my taste buds! 🍫🍓

I don’t know, chocolate with berries sounds kinda weird. Are you sure it ain’t too sweet?

  95. 4 stars
I used frozen berries and it still worked. Just needed 5 more minutes. Not too sweet either, which I like.

Made this tonight—so good! The cocoa batter + berries is a great combo, and the boiling water step makes it come out super fudgy underneath.

  98. User avatar dane.douglas24 says:

Y’all sayin’ this is great but I don’t trust mixing fruit with chocolate. Just stick with cake.

I don’t know what I did wrong. Mine came out dry and the berries were kinda runny. Could be my oven, but 30-35 minutes felt off.

Uh… where’s the vanilla in the ingredients? Just noticed that. Not sure if I should add it or not.

I dunno. The boiling water part sounds weird. How is that gonna work? Is this really a cobbler? More like a soup to me. 🤨

Quick and easy! Perfect for a dessert on a busy night. Just keep an eye on it after the 30 minutes.

Pretty good! I used frozen berries and it still worked. I think 30 minutes was a bit short for my oven though—needed closer to 38 to get that golden top.

    1. User avatar Maxwell Jakubowski says:

      3 stars
I tried it once and it stayed too wet. Think I didn’t bake long enough either—maybe I should’ve done your 38 minutes. Also my berries were like… not fully mixed? idk.

    2. User avatar harlan.lakin12 says:

      5 stars
Good to know! I also find 30 min is a little optimistic—my oven runs hot/cold depending on the day. 38 sounds right for that deeper golden top.

Messy to make, but the taste was worth it! Chocolate berry magic!!

  105. User avatar sydney.parisian18 says:

lol i forgot to preheat (oops). still cooked but i feel like it was maybe less golden. also my berries leaked a lot

  106. User avatar julio.russel26 says:

Flavor is solid, but my top didn’t get very golden. I might have over/under baked, and next time I’ll make sure the oven is fully preheated.

Yum! I served it with vanilla ice cream and it was gone fast. Easy weeknight dessert.

Not gonna lie, it’s kind of chocolate cake meets berry pie. I wanted more chocolate flavor, maybe add a bit more cocoa next time. Texture was good.

  109. User avatar wesley.streich78 says:

    4 stars
Not bad! I used frozen berries and let them thaw a bit. Texture was a little runnier than I expected, but the flavor was rich and chocolatey.

    1. 4 stars
Thanks! Frozen berries can definitely make it a bit runnier—thawing/releasing extra juice is probably what you saw. Next time maybe use them straight from frozen or reduce the cornstarch a touch only if it’s too thick.

    2. User avatar lenora.mclaughlin80 says:

      4 stars
Hmm, runnier than expected but rich/chocolatey sounds right. I always pour the boiling water slowly or mine turns soupy. Also your berries were probably extra wet—maybe drain them next time? 🙂

Made this last night—so chocolatey and the berries turned jammy. I used frozen berries and it still worked. Next time I’ll add a pinch of cinnamon for extra cozy.
