Marinated Shrimp Skewers

August 29, 2025

Marinated shrimp skewers are a vibrant, flavorful dish that turns a simple seafood dinner into something special. By letting shrimp soak in a zesty, seasoned marinade, you infuse every bite with bold flavors before they even touch the grill. This technique not only enhances the shrimp’s natural sweetness but also ensures they stay tender and juicy. Perfect for summer cookouts, family dinners, or even a quick weeknight meal, marinated grilled shrimp skewers are a delicious way to elevate your seafood game.

The secret lies in the marinade. A good blend often includes olive oil, garlic, citrus juice, and a mix of fresh herbs or spices. Lemon or lime juice adds brightness, while garlic and chili flakes bring depth and a touch of heat. Soy sauce, honey, or paprika can also be added for extra layers of flavor. Allowing the shrimp to marinate for at least 15–30 minutes gives them time to soak up all the seasonings without becoming mushy, which can happen if seafood sits in acidic marinades for too long.

Once threaded onto skewers, the shrimp are ready for the grill. Cooking them over high heat takes just a few minutes, which makes this recipe ideal for busy days. The quick cook time also means the marinade remains fresh and vibrant, creating a balance between smoky grill marks and bright, bold flavors. For an extra pop of color and taste, alternate shrimp with vegetables like bell peppers, red onions, or zucchini, turning the skewers into a full meal on a stick.

These skewers pair beautifully with a variety of sides, from a simple green salad to garlic bread, rice pilaf, or a fresh pasta salad. They also make an excellent appetizer when served with dipping sauces like garlic aioli or sweet chili sauce.

Marinated shrimp skewers aren’t just delicious, shrimps are also a healthy option. Shrimp are high in lean protein, low in calories, and packed with nutrients like selenium and vitamin B12. With minimal effort and simple ingredients, this dish proves that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring.

Made these for dinner and everyone went back for seconds. Used smoked paprika by accident and it tasted amazing. Next time I’ll prep skewers faster because the shrimp went quickly.

  18. User avatar melodie.schultz says:

    2 stars
Instructions are confusing…what’s medium-high heat? My shrimp got burnt. 🙁

  19. 3 stars
I thought they were okay, nothing special. Maybe would have been better with some chili flakes.

  20. 5 stars
Tried these last night—super quick and the lemon-garlic combo is spot on. I let mine marinate closer to 30 min and they stayed juicy. Would definitely make again.

  21. User avatar nathan.reichel66 says:

These shrimp skewers are phenomenal! So easy to make and full of flavor. My family devoured them! Definitely a 5!

  22. 1 star
Shrimp on a skewer? Pretty sure that’s a seafood thing. My grandma made it differently!

    1. User avatar Veda Paucek says:

      4 stars
Well, grandma’s way might be different, but this recipe sounds delicious! I love shrimp on skewers!

  23. User avatar andree.ortiz1965 says:

    2 stars
Do the shrimp have to be peeled? I feel like the shells give flavor. Just a thought…

  24. User avatar cecily.zieme94 says:

    5 stars
Tried this at a family BBQ. Everyone raved about them! Perfect for summer!

  25. User avatar jacquelyne.armstrong says:

    3 stars
I followed it mostly, but I only let it marinate like 5 minutes. It was still tasty, just not as flavorful. Also I think my grill runs hot because mine were done in like 1.5 minutes per side 😅

    1. User avatar norman.mohr says:

      5 stars
Totally makes sense—5 minutes is more like a “quick coat” than a real marinade. I bet the hot grill also threw off the timing; 1.5 min/side can definitely go fast with shrimp 😅 Next time I’d aim for the 15+ minutes and maybe crank it a hair down or watch for the opaque look sooner.

  26. User avatar Frodo Baggins says:

    5 stars
Wow, I can’t believe how good these turned out! Perfect for our BBQ. Will definitely make again!

  27. 4 stars
My kids loved these! Can’t believe something so quick can be so good!

  28. User avatar ronald.kreiger95 says:

    3 stars
Honestly I don’t get it—shrimp cooks fast, so the marinade didn’t matter that much. Still okay, just not mind-blowing.

    1. User avatar babette.hill says:

      3 stars
Nah, I disagree 😅 15 min makes a diffrence. If you let it sit longer (like 30-45 min) it tastes way better. Also don’t overcook—2-3 min a side is perfect.

    2. User avatar jack.lind says:

      4 stars
I kinda get what you mean—shrimp is fast—but the marinade still helps with flavor. The lemon/garlic really comes through even if it’s not “tenderizing” like meat. Not mind-blowing is fair though.

  29. 3 stars
Shrimps are tasty but I dunno about the parsley on top, feels like a waste. Just don’t get it.

  30. 5 stars
These were fantastic! My family loved them, especially the garlic flavor. Will make again!

    1. 5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! The garlic really does make a difference, doesn’t it? Great choice for summer BBQs!

  31. User avatar jamar.pfeffer71 says:

    4 stars
I’m not a huge fan of lemon on shrimp, but this marinade surprised me. Balanced with garlic and paprika. Parsley at the end was a nice touch.

  32. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was worried the 1 lb shrimp would stick on the grill. I lightly oiled the grates and it was fine. The paprika + lemon combo is a nice surprise. Solid.

    1. 5 stars
Glad it worked for you! I always do a quick brush with oil too—shrimp can be so dramatic on the grill 😅. That paprika + lemon twist really does make it pop.

    2. User avatar naida.stiedemann34 says:

      3 stars
Interesting… I tried something similar but mine stuck anyways. Maybe my grates were too cold? Also I think 2-3 minutes a side is not enough for my shrimp, I kept them longer like 5-6 minutes. Still tasty though.

  33. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    5 stars
Yummmm!!! 😍 Can’t wait to make these again, perfect for summer.

    1. User avatar ian.franecki82 says:

      5 stars
These are sooo good! I make them all the time for summer BBQs!

  34. User avatar raina.cummerata says:

    2 stars
Bland. I don’t know why people rave over this. Shrimp just tastes like water. 2 stars.

    1. 4 stars
I think you just need to season it more! The marinade is key to bring out the flavors. Shrimp can be delicious if done right.

  35. User avatar izetta.weissnat2020 says:

    3 stars
My skewers stuck to the grill even though I was careful. Maybe I should’ve oiled them too. Flavor was still decent, just messy.

  36. User avatar jess.kozey36 says:

    5 stars
1 lb shrimp is never enough for my family 😅 but flavor is solid. I’d call it a crowd-pleaser.

  37. User avatar bob.langosh53 says:

    3 stars
Eh, it was okay. The shrimp kinda shrunk when I grilled them and were hard to thread on the skewers. Maybe my grill was too hot? 3/5.

    1. 3 stars
3 outta 5? That ain’t too bad! You just gotta practice grilling. Maybe try at a lower temp?

    2. User avatar audrey.walker94 says:

      4 stars
I had the same problem with my shrimp! I think maybe they were too small. Next time I’ll look for larger ones.

  38. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

    2 stars
Looks good in photos but mine didn’t taste much, kinda bland. Smh.

    1. 4 stars
Sounds like you might have skimped on the seasoning! I never had that problem. Try adding more garlic next time!

  39. 5 stars
These shrimp skewers were a hit at my BBQ! So good and easy to make!

  40. User avatar lucio.hills85 says:

    3 stars
I tried this recipe but added some chili flakes for heat. They were good but didn’t live up to the hype, felt like something was missing.

  41. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
Too salty for me! Next time, less salt please.

  42. User avatar merlin.haley72 says:

    3 stars
Is lemon juice really needed? Thought it would be better without it. Gonna try that next time.

  43. 5 stars
Super simple and flavorful! The lemon + garlic combo really pops, and 15 minutes was plenty for me. I grilled them a couple extra minutes and they were still juicy—great recipe.

  44. User avatar amber.parker says:

    5 stars
These were awesome—juicy shrimp with that bright lemon garlic flavor. I let them marinate the full 30 minutes and they cooked perfectly at about 2 minutes per side. Will make again.

    1. User avatar annamarie.okon42 says:

      4 stars
I tried it but mine were a little overcooked at like 3 minutes a side 😅 Maybe my grill runs hot? Still tasty though. Next time I’ll watch closer.

    2. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

      5 stars
Yes! The lemon garlic combo really pops. I do about 20 minutes marinating and my shrimp always end up super tender—2 min per side sounds spot on.

  45. User avatar erwin.gleichner1975 says:

    3 stars
I dunno, they were kinda bland for me. Maybe I overcooked them?

  46. User avatar randal.conn65 says:

    4 stars
I’m not good at grilling, but these came out nice. Thanks for the tips!

  47. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

    4 stars
Simple and delicious! I added some chili flakes for a kick!

    1. User avatar kirk.schaefer says:

      5 stars
I love chili flakes too! They really add a nice touch. Can’t wait to try this recipe!

  48. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    2 stars
Followed the recipe but my shrimp stuck to the grill lol. Still tasted ok tho.

  49. User avatar breanne.conroy says:

    4 stars
I tried these on a grill pan instead. They charred fast but the flavor was there. Timing is everything!

  50. User avatar anderson.white64 says:

    4 stars
I’m not a shrimp person but my husband loved it! Will make again for him.

    1. 4 stars
That’s great to hear! At least one of you enjoyed it. Maybe try adding some spices to make it more appealing for you too?

  51. User avatar joseph.stracke says:

    2 stars
Honestly? Shrimp cooks way faster than that. I did 1 minute per side and they were done—2-3 was overkill for my tiny shrimp. But overall still yummy.

    1. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on the timing—shrimp are so forgiving for a quick cook. I usually aim for opaque + just-curled, and 1 min/side works for my smaller ones too. Glad you still liked it!

    2. 3 stars
Hmm I’m not sure—if you do just 1 minute per side won’t they be undercooked? Mine usually takes closer to 2–3 each because I don’t like them rubbery, lol. But hey if yours turned out, I might try your way with smaller shrimp.

  52. User avatar melonie.orn25 says:

    5 stars
YUM! The flavor was amazing! I added a bit of chili powder for a kick. 🦐🔥

  53. 5 stars
    Yummy! 😋

  54. 4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 15 minutes wasn’t long enough for me—flavor felt a little mild. Next time I’ll do closer to an hour. Also, don’t overcook or they get rubbery fast.

  55. 4 stars
I didn’t have fresh parsley so I used dried. Still okay, but it lost some freshness. Otherwise, really solid recipe.

    1. 5 stars
I think dried parsley is fine tbh, but you may wanna use a little less? Like it can get kinda bitter if you overshoot. Also I marinated mine like an hour and they tasted even better 😄

    2. User avatar jared.weissnat2026 says:

      4 stars
Totally agree—fresh herbs really do add that “bright” finish. Dried parsley can work in a pinch, but it’s usually flatter. Glad it still turned out solid for you!

  56. User avatar grover.rosenbaum66 says:

    2 stars
3 minutes per side? Mine came out dry and I think I overcooked. Also skewers were kinda messy—shrimp kept sliding off. Maybe soaking wooden skewers longer would help.

  57. 4 stars
I didn’t have parsley so I used basil instead. 😅 Still good tho!

    1. 5 stars
Basil is a great twist! I bet it added a different flavor. 😄

  58. 2 stars
Marinade was too sour for my taste. Might reduce the lemon next time.

  59. 4 stars
Not bad at all. I like the quick marinade—no weird ingredients. I served with rice and it matched perfectly. Would recommend.

  60. User avatar marivel.farrell says:

    4 stars
Honestly, I was skeptical about the marinade. It sounded too simple, but wow. So flavorful!
