Mango Cardamom Tart

August 8, 2023

Mango Cardamom Tart is a beautiful and refreshing dessert that pairs the sweet, juicy flavor of ripe mangoes with the warm, aromatic spice of cardamom. This tart combines a crisp, buttery crust with a smooth, silky filling, making each bite a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. It’s an elegant dessert that’s perfect for any special occasion or when you want to treat yourself to something both exotic and comforting.

The crust of the tart is buttery and slightly crisp, made from a classic shortcrust dough that provides the perfect base for the luscious filling. It’s slightly sweet and crumbly, creating a nice contrast with the smoothness of the filling. You can make the crust ahead of time and pre-bake it to ensure a perfectly golden and crisp base.

The filling is what truly makes this tart stand out. A blend of ripe mangoes, cardamom, and a touch of sweetness is blended into a velvety smooth custard-like filling. The natural sweetness of the mangoes shines through, while the cardamom adds a subtle, warm spice that elevates the flavor, creating a sophisticated, tropical taste. The filling is poured into the pre-baked crust and then set in the fridge to chill and firm up.

For an added touch of elegance, you can top the tart with thinly sliced fresh mangoes arranged in a decorative pattern, or a drizzle of honey for a slight glaze. A light dusting of ground cardamom or a few sprigs of mint can also add a finishing touch that brings out the spiced flavors.

Mango Cardamom Tart is perfect for warm weather and makes a stunning centerpiece for any gathering. Whether served at a dinner party or for a casual afternoon treat, this tart is sure to impress with its vibrant colors, tropical flavor, and fragrant spice.

In summary, Mango Cardamom Tart combines the sweetness of mangoes with the warmth of cardamom, set in a crisp, buttery crust. It’s a beautiful, flavorful dessert that’s both indulgent and refreshing, offering a tropical twist on the classic fruit tart.

  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter chilled and cubed
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3-4 mangoes ripe, peeled and sliced

Instructions

  • In a food processor, combine the flour, butter, sugar, cardamom, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

I don’t know, this sounds kinda weird. Mango and cardamom? Are you sure that’s a good mix?

I’m so glad to hear that! It’s always nice when a recipe brings the family together. What did everyone like the most about it?

  2. 4 stars
Not bad! The flavor is bright from the lemon and the cardamom is subtle. I baked mine closer to 28 minutes to get a deeper golden crust.

I dunno…cardamom? Sounds weird. I stick with classic flavors. No thanks.

10/10? Really? I thought it was just alright. I mean, mango is good and all, but cardamom?? Idk…

    2. 5 stars
I totally agree! The combo is just divine! Never thought of using cardamom like that! Yum!

  6. User avatar jeff.mcclure40 says:

Meh, it was okay. I was expecting more flavor. The crust turned out kinda crumbly and not buttery enough for me.

Honestly, I thought the recipe was confusing. I might have messed up somewhere but it didn’t look like the pic. 😟

Easy to follow! Used frozen mango since it was off season, and it came out alright. Just okay for me.

  9. User avatar wayne.pollich says:

I don’t think cardamom is even supposed to go with mangoes. What are you even thinking?

  10. User avatar sharie.bernier says:

Who uses cardamom in a dessert? I thought it would ruin the taste but it was surprisingly good! Will make again.

  11. User avatar darell.pfannerstill1992 says:

Easy to follow and my family loved it!!! Yummy 😍

  12. 5 stars
Delicious! I added some coconut on top for a twist! 🍧

  13. User avatar aleta.rath93 says:

Very tasty! But my crust didn’t turn out as golden as yours. Maybe I should’ve baked it longer? 😅

    1. 2 stars
Nah, I don’t think it matters that much. Crust is crust. Just eat it, who cares! 😜

    2. User avatar basementDweller says:

      4 stars
You might just need to bake it a bit longer! Everyone’s oven is different. 😄 Good luck next time!

  14. User avatar ronnie.baumbach1977 says:

Sounds good, but why cardamom? That’s a weird spice to put in a tart. Just stick with vanilla next time. 🙄

    1. User avatar leland.batz30 says:

      5 stars
I love the idea of cardamom! It adds such a unique flavor. Vanilla is nice, but this will be so much more interesting. Can’t wait to try it! 😊

    2. User avatar melania.cummings says:

Honestly, I think cardamom sounds odd. Never thought it would go with mango. I’m gonna skip this one. Just sounds wrong. 🤷‍♂️

  15. User avatar Grunthos the Flatulent says:

I love mango desserts, but the crust felt a little crumbly for me. Maybe I didn’t add enough water—next time I’ll be more careful and chill longer.

    1. User avatar Lazaro Schroeder DVM says:

      4 stars
Mine was kinda crumbly too at first. I think my crust wasn’t pressed firmly enough into the pan—next time I’m gonna really pack the dough.

    2. 4 stars
Totally hear you—crumbly crust usually means it needed a touch more water or the butter was too warm. I chill mine closer to 45 min and it helps a lot.

  16. User avatar daren.kub67 says:

    4 stars
    delicious

  17. User avatar magali.mclaughlin61 says:

Tried making this with frozen mangoes instead. Didn’t turn out as good. Fresh mangoes are the way to go!

  18. User avatar keenan.quigley63 says:

Mangoes aren’t in season right now where I live, so I used peaches instead. Can’t say I liked it as much, but it was still enjoyable.

  19. 5 stars
This tart is amazing! The mango and cardamom together are just perfect.

    1. 2 stars
Eh, I don’t know about that. Cardamom and mango? Seems weird to me. Maybe I’ll stick to chocolate desserts!

    2. User avatar paris.schuppe92 says:

      5 stars
I completely agree! The flavors blend so well. I want to make it again this weekend!

  20. 5 stars
This tart is surprisingly fancy for something pretty straightforward. The cardamom makes the whole thing smell amazing. I used slightly less jam and it still turned out glossy and pretty.

    1. 5 stars
Agree—cardamom totally levels it up. I also did the slightly-less-jam thing and it still looked glossy like you said. Pretty darn impressive for so few steps!

    2. User avatar lynn.mohr says:

      4 stars
I made this last week and mine didn’t stay glossy at all 😩 I think my jam was too thick. Any tips for getting the glaze shiny without adding more jam?

  21. User avatar eddy.hessel says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I wasn’t a fan. The cardamom flavor was too strong for my taste.

    1. User avatar charlesetta.leuschke25 says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! Cardamom can be pretty intense. Maybe you could try reducing the amount next time?

    2. 2 stars
Nah, cardamom is the best! You just gotta get used to it. Try cinnamon next time if it’s too much.

  22. User avatar ArabianNights says:

Mangoes are my favorite! Dis stuff is bomb!!! 10/10 would recommend.

  23. User avatar wilburn.runte says:

  26. User avatar patience.torp5 says:

This tart is amazing! Perfect blend of flavors, the cardamom adds a nice touch. Will definitely make it again.

  27. User avatar trish.russel says:

    4 stars
Yummy! But like, where do I get cardamom? Is that the same as cinnamon? 🤔

  28. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    1 star
I don’t have a food processor, can I just mix by hand or something? 🤔

  29. User avatar joane.hickle says:

    3 stars
I DONT LIKE MANGO but this tart was alright. Maybe I’m just hungry?

  30. 3 stars
I don’t know about this one. Mango and cardamom? Seems like a weird combo. I might try it but I’m skeptical.

  31. 3 stars
I tried making this, but my dough was too crumbly. Maybe I added too much water? Not sure what I did wrong.

    1. User avatar salvatore.krajcik says:

      4 stars
It’s definitely tricky with the water! You might have just gone a bit overboard. Next time, try adding a little bit less and see if it helps! Good luck!

    2. User avatar blake.mayert2 says:

      3 stars
Maybe your flour was too old? That happens sometimes. Or you could just need to mix it more. Don’t worry, it happens to everyone! Try again! 🙂

  32. User avatar joan.kunze23 says:

    2 stars
Honestly, it looks pretty but tasted too sweet for my liking. Next time less jam, I guess.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! I thought it was a bit too sweet too. Maybe next time I’ll try less jam as well. But it sure looks pretty, right?

  33. User avatar percy.schamberger says:

    2 stars
I thought the glaze was too much. It made it too sweet for my taste. Maybe less apricot jam next time.

  34. 3 stars
I had some trouble with the crust. It didn’t turn out as flaky as I wanted. Maybe I should’ve pulsed longer?

  35. User avatar annamarie.beahan84 says:

    5 stars
So yum! The lemon juice is a great tip, kept my mangos looking fresh! Would make again.

  36. User avatar wei.pagac says:

    3 stars
Good, but takes too long! I need quick desserts for busy days.

  37. User avatar Meriadoc Brandybuck says:

    2 stars
Very sour! I used limes instead of lemons and it turned out bad. Will stick to the recipe next time.

  38. User avatar Jarod O'Connell says:

    3 stars
I can’t find cardamom at my store, can I just use cinnamon instead? Help!

  39. User avatar bradly.carter says:

    5 stars
This was sooo delicious! The cardamom really makes it special. I loved it!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! The cardamom adds such a unique flavor. I can’t wait to try it myself!

    2. User avatar dylan.cronin41 says:

      2 stars
Really? Cardamom? I don’t know if that sounds good. Why not just stick with vanilla? Seems more classic.

  40. 3 stars
Why does it call for apricot jam? Just use any jam, right? Confusing. I just threw on some strawberry jam. 3 stars, I guess.

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      4 stars
Using strawberry jam is a classic move! But apricot gives that special touch, ya know? Still, hope the tart turned out good! 🍓
