Dixie Pie

August 12, 2024

Dixie Pie is a beloved Southern dessert known for its rich filling and buttery crust. But what happens when you pair this sweet treat with savory Sloppy Joe sauce and crispy fries? You get a fun and indulgent meal that combines the best of both worlds – sweet and savory, hearty and comforting.

Sloppy Joe sauce brings a savory punch to the dish. Made with ground beef, onions, tomatoes, and spices like garlic and paprika, the sauce is hearty and satisfying. It’s rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of tanginess and sweetness, which contrasts beautifully with the richness of the Dixie Pie. When spooned over the Dixie pie or served alongside it, the Sloppy Joe sauce adds an unexpected kick that elevates the sweetness of the dessert in a surprising way.

To round out this indulgent meal, add a side of crispy fries. The fries provide the perfect crunchy contrast to the softness of the pie and the sauciness of the Sloppy Joe topping. You can opt for classic golden fries or seasoned ones for a little extra flavor. Either way, they make the meal complete and add an extra layer of satisfaction.

Dixie Pie with Sloppy Joe sauce is not your typical meal, but it’s a fun and exciting way to mix two comfort food favorites. Perfect for those who enjoy sweet and savory combinations, this dish offers a little bit of everything – comfort, creativity, and bold flavor in every bite.

Not gonna lie, I thought “Dixie Pie” would be more like actual pie dough 😅 but this is still a clever casserole vibe.

What kinda pie is this? Ain’t no crust! Just meat and fries! LOL

  4. User avatar Jerold Pfannerstill says:

Meh. I think it needs more seasoning or something, didn’t taste right.

Why would you use frozen fries? Fresh would be way better. 🤔

    1. 4 stars
I think frozen fries are just so much easier and still taste good! Who has time to cut fresh ones all the time?

Great idea, but I’m just wondering if I can use chicken instead of beef? I’ve got some leftover roasted chicken.

The ingredients list is missing a whole step or two… like how long to bake and what temperature after. Still, I like the idea a lot.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah I had the same thought—missing the actual baking time/steps. But once you fill in the blanks, the concept sounds tasty. What temp did you end up using?

Do I need to cook the beef first??? I’m confused.

Sounds good, but not sure about the fries in a pie… is that really a thing?

This doesn’t seem like a pie! More like a casserole with fries. But it’s still tasty.

I made this last night, and it was kinda simple but worked fine for my lazy cooking day.

  19. 3 stars
400°F seems a bit high if the fries are already cooked? I’d keep an eye on it so it doesn’t get too crispy/burny.

I didn’t have frozen fries, so I used fresh ones, and it was fine. But how do I make it pie-like?

  25. 3 stars
Oh wow, 1 lb ground beef and a whole bag of fries? That’s a lot of carbs for one dish… but I’ll probably do it anyway.

I totally get what you mean! It needs a little kick, some chili powder might help! 🌶️

  31. 2 stars
Why the parsley optional? My grandma says no green stuff on brown food, lol. But I guess it looks nice.

  32. 5 stars
I used tater tots instead of fries and it was fantastic!

  39. 3 stars
Easy to make but it looked a mess. Taste was okay, I guess.

Fries and beef? YES PLEASE! Making this again for the weekend BBQ! 😋
