Coconut and Date Bliss Balls

May 20, 2024

If you’re looking for a healthy snack that tastes like dessert but is made with simple, nourishing ingredients, coconut and date bliss balls are the answer. These no-bake treats come together in minutes and are the perfect bite-sized energy boost to enjoy on the go, after a workout, or as a sweet little afternoon pick-me-up.

Made with just a handful of ingredients, mostly dates, shredded coconut, and nuts, these bliss balls are naturally sweet, chewy, and satisfying. The dates add rich caramel flavor and a dose of fiber, while the coconut gives them a tropical twist. A handful of almonds or cashews adds texture and healthy fats, and you can customize the mix with extras like chia seeds, cocoa powder, or vanilla extract to match your cravings.

The process couldn’t be easier. Simply add pitted dates, nuts, and shredded coconut to a food processor and blend until the mixture forms a sticky dough. If it’s too dry, a small splash of water or coconut oil brings it together. Then roll the mixture into small balls, coat them in extra shredded coconut if desired, and pop them in the fridge to firm up.

What’s great about bliss balls is how versatile they are. You can keep them nut-free by using sunflower or pumpkin seeds, add protein powder for a post-gym boost, or toss in spices like cinnamon or cardamom for extra flavor. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge and they’ll stay fresh for up to a week, though they rarely last that long.

Whether you’re meal prepping snacks for the week or need a healthier option to curb sugar cravings, coconut and date bliss balls are a simple and satisfying choice. They’re proof that wholesome ingredients can still create something truly indulgent.

Um, why do we need cocoa powder? I thought these were coconut and date balls, not brownies! 😕

Too many nuts for my taste, and I think it got too sweet with the dates. Not my fav. Maybe try less?

    1. User avatar kendra.oconnell says:

      4 stars
I can see how it might be too sweet for some! Maybe try swapping the dates for less sweet dried fruit like apricots? But nuts add a nice crunch!

  15. 2 stars
I followed the recipe, but mine turned out too sticky to roll into balls. Not sure what went wrong.

I don’t have a food processor, can I just mix it by hand? 🤔

    1. User avatar clarence.kohler91 says:

      5 stars
You can definitely mix it by hand! It might take a bit more effort, but just make sure to chop the dates and nuts really fine first. 😄

    2. User avatar winford.sanford1972 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, isn’t a food processor kinda important for blending? Mixing by hand sounds risky. 😬

  23. User avatar daren.wisozk10 says:

So easy to make. You just mix and roll, but do we really need that much coconut? It’s almost too much. But they nice.

    1. User avatar judie.wehner says:

I totally agree! The coconut is a bit overboard. Maybe half a cup would be better?

I get that! They’re definitely not for everyone. Have you tried substituting the dates with something else? Maybe less sweet fruits?

  28. 1 star
I don’t get it.. Why is it called bliss? They are just balls with dates and nuts, lol.
