Classic Bacon Cheddar Dip

February 7, 2025

Classic Bacon cheddar dip is a rich and indulgent appetizer that combines the savory flavors of crispy bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, and creamy goodness in every bite. This dip is perfect for parties, game days, or any gathering where you want to serve something delicious and crowd-pleasing. The combination of smoky bacon and creamy cheddar is a classic that never fails to impress.

The base of this dip starts with cream cheese and sour cream, which provide a smooth and tangy foundation for the flavors. These ingredients create a creamy texture that’s perfect for dipping. To make the dip even more flavorful, sharp cheddar cheese is mixed in, giving the dip its bold, cheesy taste. The cheese melts into the dip, creating a smooth and velvety consistency that coats your chips, crackers, or vegetables beautifully.

Crispy bacon is the star of this dip, adding a smoky and salty element that complements the richness of the cheese and cream. The bacon is cooked until crispy and crumbled into small pieces, then stirred into the dip for that irresistible crunch and flavor. A touch of garlic powder, onion powder, and a dash of hot sauce (if you like a little spice) round out the flavor profile, giving it just the right amount of seasoning.

Classic Bacon cheddar dip is incredibly versatile and can be served warm or cold. If you prefer a warm dip, simply bake it in the oven until it’s bubbly and golden on top. For a cold version, just refrigerate it until ready to serve, and it will still have a creamy, flavorful taste that everyone will love. This dip pairs wonderfully with tortilla chips, crackers, sliced veggies, or even bread for dipping.

This dip is perfect for making ahead of time, as the flavors meld together and become even more delicious after a few hours in the fridge. Whether you’re hosting a party or just craving something savory, bacon cheddar dip is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that everyone will want to dive into.

It was okay, but I think it needed something. Maybe more seasoning or a kick of spice?

This dip is a hit at every party! So creamy and cheesy, everyone wants the recipe!

  3. 4 stars
I never liked bacon, but this dip was surprisingly good! My friends loved it too!

  4. User avatar luba.vandervort1970 says:

Too much bacon! bacon ain’t supposed to be the main part of a dip lol. I prefer simple dips. 2 stars.

  5. User avatar Emily Saunders says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but mine turned out a bit thick. Maybe my cream cheese wasn’t soft enough? Still good though.

    1. User avatar emory.pollich92 says:

      5 stars
Glad it was still good! If it was a little thick, yeah—cream cheese not being fully softened can do that. Next time, let it sit out longer (or microwave for a few seconds).

  6. User avatar reid.hartmann1985 says:

    4 stars
I followed it but my green onions basically disappeared—like no flavor at all. Maybe I chopped them too fine? Otherwise it was easy and fast.

    1. User avatar crissy.feest says:

      4 stars
Maybe the green onions were too watery or old? Like they just don’t taste like anything when cooked in dairy dips. I’d use more (or mix in extra right before serving) and definitely don’t over-stir after adding them.

    2. User avatar Geralyn Durgan says:

      4 stars
That’s surprising—green onions usually bring a nice bite. I think chopping them too fine could make them blend in more, but they still should add some onion flavor. Did you use enough green onion? Also, did you refrigerate the full hour or longer?

  7. User avatar tonja.steuber43 says:

This is dangerously good. I used smoked cheddar and it made it even better. Five stars and I’m not sorry.

  8. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    4 stars
Had to substitute turkey bacon and honestly it still worked, just not as rich. Would probably be even better with regular bacon.

  9. 3 stars
The instructions are pretty straightforward, but I’m curious—do you melt the cheddar first? I didn’t and it was still fine, just wondering.

  10. User avatar emery.reilly says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but this dip actually turned out really good. I think the garlic powder adds a nice touch.

  11. User avatar angelika.runolfsdottir86 says:

Made this for game night and it was gone fast. The bacon + cheddar combo is perfect, and the 1 hour chilling really does make a difference.

  12. User avatar rozella.borer94 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought it would be too salty with the bacon + cheddar. It was actually balanced—nice smoke flavor.

  13. User avatar eugene.sporer82 says:

    1 star
I dunno, it just didn’t taste right. I don’t even like green things. Why add onions?

  14. User avatar eliseo.crist89 says:

    4 stars
Bacon makes everything better! Simple to make, and perfect for parties!

  15. User avatar brittany.robel65 says:

    4 stars
Looks simple—like, too simple? But wow, it actually works. Cream cheese + sour cream combo is the move.

  16. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    5 stars
OMG this is dangerously good. I ate way more than I should with veggies. The green onions actually make it taste fresh.

  17. 5 stars
So easy and tastes way better than store-bought dip. I added a little extra garlic powder because… why not 😅

  18. User avatar Android 18 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I found it a bit too salty (my cheddar was strong). Next time I’ll use less bacon or a milder cheese. Still creamy though.

  19. User avatar julio.doyle20 says:

    3 stars
Could use more bacon. Like… just saying. The flavor is fine but I kept wishing for thicker bacon chunks.

  20. User avatar inez.murphy39 says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about only garlic powder—feels like it could use fresh garlic or something. Also 1 hour chilling might not be enough for me.

    1. User avatar santiago.predovic2014 says:

      5 stars
1 hour? I don’t think so 😅 I usually chill it 3-4 hours so the bacon fat sets and the flavor really comes together. Otherwise it tastes kinda “separate” to me. Still sounds good tho!

    2. 4 stars
Totally get your skepticism—garlic powder is convenient, but fresh garlic would give it a sharper bite. If you try it, maybe use 1 small clove (grated) instead and add a little extra salt to balance.

  21. 4 stars
Pretty easy, and it tastes like something you’d get at a party. I added a little extra pepper and it was perfect.

  22. User avatar weldon.kuhn1994 says:

    2 stars
Welp, I messed up and used pre-shredded cheddar (the anti-caking stuff). It turned out ok but not as smooth. Still would make again if I’m careful.

    1. User avatar sheldon.cassin95 says:

      5 stars
Honestly that happens! Pre-shredded cheddar usually has anti-caking agents and doesn’t melt quite as smoothly, so your result tracks. Glad it was still tasty though—next time you could toss in a little extra stirring or melt the cheese briefly before mixing.

  23. 4 stars
My green onions were gone so I used dried onion flakes. It was still tasty, just not as fresh. Would do again in a pinch.

  24. User avatar genaro.borer1 says:

    2 stars
Why refrigerate for an hour? I don’t have timeeee. I tried serving right away and it was kinda runny. Still tasted good though, just messy.

  25. User avatar ernie.kutch1 says:

    4 stars
I thought it would be bland, but the pepper and garlic powder helped a lot. Also, using real shredded cheddar matters—pre-shredded didn’t feel as nice in the past.

  26. User avatar keith.mueller70 says:

DIP OF THE YEAR! <3 we devoured it! yumyumyum

    1. User avatar karole.hermann1993 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This dip is the best! 😍

    2. User avatar emanuel.leffler1999 says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but is it really worth all the calories? 🤔

  27. User avatar temeka.hoeger62 says:

    5 stars
Bacon. Cheddar. Sour cream. Garlic powder. It’s basically my whole personality in dip form—love it.

  28. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    5 stars
Made this for game night—so creamy and cheesy! Waiting the full hour was totally worth it. Loved the bacon bits throughout.

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      5 stars
Yes!! This is exactly how I like my dips—creamy and loaded with cheese. I always underestimate the bacon quantity but it never disappoints.

  29. User avatar alene.pfeffer says:

    3 stars
Could you use turkey bacon instead? I’m tryin to eat healthy.🤔

  30. User avatar Tequila Goyette says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually into dips, but this one actually feels like a meal. The texture is creamy and salty (in a good way).

    1. User avatar Celine Gaylord says:

      3 stars
Hmm I’m gonna be honest, dips are my weakness, but “salty in a good way” is usually a red flag for me. Did you measure the bacon carefully? Mine turned out kinda too salty once… maybe I overdid it.

    2. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

      5 stars
Totally get what you mean—this doesn’t feel like a “snack dip.” The bacon + cheddar combo makes it way more filling. I also love that chill time; the flavors really come together.

  31. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

    5 stars
This dip is a game changer! So cheesy and delicious. My friends loved it!

  32. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

    1 star
I’m skeptical that garlic powder is enough. Also 8 oz cream cheese feels like it won’t cover 1 cup cheddar—mine turned out weirdly grainy, maybe I overmixed?

  33. User avatar raven.dubuque says:

    4 stars
Mine turned out a bit thicker than I expected—maybe I used thick sour cream? Still really good though. Next time I’ll loosen it slightly if needed.

  34. User avatar ling.wolff2017 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t refrigerate it long enough (only like 20 min) and it was kind of runny. But after a proper chill, it was way better.

  35. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
This dip is absolutely delicious! Made it for my party and it was gone in minutes! Everyone loved it!

  36. User avatar michal.durgan50 says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe but mine turned out a bit thick—maybe my sour cream was extra heavy. Still delicious though with chips.

  37. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
This is good but kinda heavy—like, I’ll eat it, but my arteries already called in sick 😂

  38. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but it felt like it needed something acidic. A squeeze of lemon or a dash of hot sauce would probably make it pop.

    1. User avatar Carlita Streich IV says:

      3 stars
I can see that, but I’m not sure about lemon. I tried adding hot sauce to dips once and it made it taste weirdly bitter to me. Maybe just a tiny bit though? 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar kenneth.klein says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—something acidic would cut through the cream cheese/cheddar richness. Lemon juice or even a little pickle brine could “pop” it for sure. 👍

  39. 2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly, but it was way too salty for my taste. Not making again.

  40. User avatar loreta.kerluke says:

    2 stars
Eh. I didn’t let it chill long enough and the texture felt kinda greasy. Maybe refrigerate longer next time.

  41. 5 stars
This is dangerously good. I ate way too much with chips and didn’t even share… sorry. Next time I’ll double it.

    1. User avatar tod.wiegand64 says:

      5 stars
Haha same—this dip is like… instant regret. Chips were a bad choice for my willpower 😅

  42. User avatar german.bergstrom39 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I ate it all myself 😋

    1. 5 stars
That sounds so good! I can never resist it either! 😍

    2. User avatar buddy.mclaughlin66 says:

      3 stars
Wow, you ate it all? Are you sure that’s enough for one? 🤔

  43. User avatar Wes Terry II says:

    3 stars
it was ok, but too cheesy for my taste. I guess I like less cheese? idk.

  44. User avatar beula.langworth75 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine came out a little thick. Maybe my cream cheese was less soft than I thought? Still tasty though with chips.

  45. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    5 stars
Made this for game night—so creamy and cheesy. The bacon bits really pop. I chilled it the full hour and it definitely melded.

  46. 5 stars
Made this for game night and it vanished fast. The combo of cheddar + bacon is perfect, and chilling it for an hour really helps it firm up.

  47. 3 stars
Not bad, but I found it a little salty. I used center-cut bacon and still… maybe my bacon was stronger. Would probably cut with extra sour cream or use less bacon.

  48. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    5 stars
Made it for a game night—everyone kept going back for more. I might add a tiny pinch of cayenne next time just for a little kick.

  49. User avatar clarita.fritsch89 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and tastes like the dip you’d buy at a deli. Next time I’ll add a little more garlic powder because I like it punchy.

    1. User avatar raeann.mayer46 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this is basically deli-style comfort food. I also bumped the garlic powder and it made a big difference for me.

  50. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    3 stars
The garlic powder was a little overpowering for my taste. I think I’d cut it in half next time and let the bacon/cheddar lead.

    1. User avatar yun.jakubowski says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—garlic powder can be punchy. Cutting it in half and letting the bacon/cheddar be the main flavor sounds spot on. I’ve done that with dips before and it’s way more balanced.

    2. User avatar suzanna.runolfsdottir73 says:

      4 stars
Hmmm I kinda like the garlic powder, but yeah mine was strong once too. Next time I might start with 1/2 tsp first, taste, then add more. Also I used fresh minced garlic one time and it was way too much lol.

  51. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

    4 stars
Followed it exactly and it came out thick and creamy. Next time I might add a little more garlic because I like it punchier, but overall super solid dip.

  52. User avatar Quickbeam says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly, but I think it needed more green onions or maybe a pinch of salt. Pepper alone felt a little flat to me.

    1. User avatar darron.hintz69 says:

      3 stars
Hmm I think you’re overthinking it. If you followed the steps exactly, pepper shouldn’t feel flat? Maybe your cheddar was mild or your green onions were kinda weak. I’d try more bacon next time lol.

    2. 4 stars
Totally get that—pepper can be kinda one-note. I’ve had better results adding a small pinch of salt (and sometimes an extra spoon of green onions) since the bacon + cheddar can vary in saltiness.

  53. 5 stars
This is dangerously good. The bacon + cheddar combo is spot on, and the 1 hour chill really makes it taste more “set” instead of just creamy. I served it with carrots and didn’t regret it at all.

  54. 4 stars
Could use a little more kick. I added some cayenne and it slapped. Without it, it’s tasty but kinda mild.

    1. User avatar donnette.goodwin34 says:

      5 stars
Totally get you—this one’s pretty mild as written. Cayenne is a great fix. I’d maybe start with 1/8 tsp, taste, then go up so it doesn’t get too spicy.

  55. User avatar Cassiopeia says:

    3 stars
It was okay. Kinda salty from the bacon, and I forgot to refrigerate it long enough so it was runnier. Would make again but adjust bacon amount.

  56. User avatar ronda.parisian16 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid dip. I used extra sharp cheddar and it kicked it up a notch. Next time I’ll probably add a pinch of smoked paprika too.

  57. User avatar maxwell.hauck63 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously snackable. The bacon + cheddar combo is exactly what I want in a dip. I chilled mine overnight and it was even better the next day.

  58. User avatar valentina.bogisich47 says:

    3 stars
I didn’t let it chill long enough (only like 20 min). Texture was kinda thick and not as smooth—still tasty, but I think the 1 hour matters a lot.

  59. User avatar eddie.bartoletti42 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I’m skeptical about how much flavor the garlic powder gives. It tasted more like a cheese spread than a dip to me.

    1. User avatar brant.abshire5 says:

      3 stars
Hmm, that’s fair. If someone doesn’t taste much garlic, it can come off kind of “cheesy spread” instead of a proper dip. I usually give it a longer chill time—closer to 2 hours—and make sure the garlic powder is fresh.
