Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookies

November 29, 2023

Chocolate peppermint crunch cookies are the ultimate holiday cookie, blending two classic flavors, rich chocolate and refreshing peppermint, into one irresistible bite. With the perfect balance of soft, chewy texture and a satisfying crunch, these cookies are sure to become a favorite during the festive season.

The magic of these cookies lies in the combination of high-quality cocoa and peppermint extract. The dough is made with a base of rich chocolate, giving it a deep, velvety flavor that pairs perfectly with the sharp, cool notes of peppermint. Once the dough is prepared, crushed peppermint candies or peppermint bark are folded in, adding that satisfying crunch with every bite and a burst of minty freshness.

The dough itself is soft and chewy, with a slightly crisp edge that gives way to a melt-in-your-mouth center. The crushed peppermint not only gives the cookies a beautiful holiday touch but also creates a delightful texture contrast against the smoothness of the chocolate.

Once baked, the cookies are beautifully studded with a little extra crushed peppermint on top, which adds even more crunch and a burst of color. For an extra touch of indulgence, you can dip the cooled cookies in melted chocolate and then sprinkle them with more peppermint bits, making them even more decadent.

These cookies aren’t just a treat for the taste buds; they’re also visually striking with their deep chocolate color and specks of peppermint. Whether you’re baking for a holiday party, a gift exchange, or simply to enjoy at home, chocolate peppermint crunch cookies bring festive cheer to any occasion.

Easy to make yet incredibly satisfying, these cookies are the perfect blend of sweet and minty, making them a must-bake this holiday season. Perfect for sharing or enjoying with a warm cup of cocoa, they’re sure to bring smiles to anyone who takes a bite.

Perfect for the holidays! They remind me of mint chocolate ice cream. Yum! 🍪

  2. User avatar donte.simonis26 says:

Why do people add peppermint? It’s just weird. Chocolate’s enough.

  3. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

The recipe was easy to follow, but they came out too soft for my taste. Maybe less baking time?

    1. 3 stars
Maybe you just need to make them a little more crispy? I like chewy cookies, but you’re right, a bit less baking could help. Try it out!

    2. User avatar gabriela.jacobi says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! I cooked them for 9 minutes and they were still soft, but I like them that way. Maybe just bake a lil longer? 😄

  4. 1 star
Peppermint is not for me, sorry. Too minty.

    1. User avatar Draugr Scourge says:

      2 stars
Lol I love peppermint but this recipe seems like it’ll be *too* minty. Maybe use peppermint extract instead? Also 10 minutes seems short—mine are never set at 10. 😅

    2. User avatar barney.douglas says:

      4 stars
Totally get it—peppermint can be super overpowering. I might try doing just a little crushed candy next time. The chocolate sounds great though!

  5. User avatar bea.gusikowski44 says:

I don’t know. The peppermint seems a bit overpowering. I think I prefer classic chocolate cookies.

I tried this recipe, but my cookies turned out too flat. Maybe I did something wrong? They still tasted good tho.

    1. 4 stars
Maybe you didn’t cream the butter and sugars enough! That can make a difference in texture. But I’m glad they tasted good! 👍

  12. User avatar shella.hermiston82 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have any peppermint candies, so I used almonds instead. Still came out pretty good. Not bad!

  13. User avatar ike.cartwright53 says:

I don’t like peppermint at all. Could I use nuts instead? 👎

  14. User avatar lionel.jacobi41 says:

    3 stars
I had trouble with the dough being too sticky. Maybe I did something wrong? Not sure if I’ll try again.

  17. 2 stars
Idk, I think there’s too much peppermint. They could use more chocolate flavor.

  18. User avatar whitley.quigley66 says:

Cookies r good but I dont like peppermint. These were ehh for me, I guess. Next time I will skip the mint.

  20. User avatar larry.kiehn says:

Great cookie but kinda gives you the sugar rush! Anyway, still eating them, LOL!

  21. User avatar basil.satterfield91 says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe exactly but they turned out super flat. Maybe my baking soda was old? Idk, 3 stars.

  22. 2 stars
Not convinced about the 10 minutes timing. Mine spread a lot and came out flatter than the picture in my head. Flavor is good, texture is meh.

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Gohan says:

      4 stars
I feel you—10 minutes was way too fast for me too. Mine spread a ton and went kinda flat. Next time I’m adding a chill time to firm up the dough.

Quick and simple for holiday baking! Who can resist chocolate and candy?!

      5 stars
These cookies sound delicious! I’m going to try making them for New Year’s! Thanks for sharing!

  31. 1 star
But why add peppermint? Chocolate is good on its own without weird flavors.

    1. User avatar anton.kiehn23 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! Chocolate is great, but the peppermint just adds a fun twist. You should give it a try before judging! 😊

  32. 2 stars
I followed the recipe, but they came out too soft. What did I do wrong? 🙁

  33. User avatar Arthur Dent says:

    2 stars
I’m not sure about mixing chocolate and peppermint. Seems a bit weird to me.

  34. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

OMG, I love chocolate and peppermint! Made these for the holiday party, they disappeared!

    1. 5 stars
Those cookies sound amazing! I can’t wait to try the recipe myself. Perfect for the holidays!

    2. 4 stars
They disappeared? How is that even possible? My family just eats the dough and leaves nothing for baking! Lol!

  35. 4 stars
The instructions were clear and simple to follow. I think I did good but they could be fluffier.

  36. User avatar micah.rosenbaum says:

    5 stars
These cookies are amazing! The peppermint adds such a nice touch. Five stars for sure!

    1. User avatar horacio.bahringer69 says:

  40. User avatar susann.feest2018 says:

    3 stars
Um, why is everyone raving? They were just ok. I’ve had better cookies from the store. 😒

    1. User avatar dana.price44 says:

      5 stars
Honestly, how can you say that? These cookies are bomb! Store cookies can’t compare, man! 😆

    2. 4 stars
I actually thought they were great! The peppermint gives them a nice twist. Maybe try using less baking soda next time? 🤷‍♀️

  41. 5 stars
Omg the smell while baking… like Christmas cookies straight up. The dough was thick and scoopable. I used peppermint bits instead of candy and still worked great.

  42. 5 stars
Made these for my family and they loved them! Will definitely make again.

  43. User avatar concepcion.jacobs says:

    5 stars
These cookies are a holiday miracle! I made them for a party and everyone loved them! 5 stars!

    1. User avatar Easton West says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! These cookies bring back such good memories. I can’t wait to try them myself!

    2. 2 stars
Are you sure they’re that good? I made a similar recipe once and it wasn’t anything special. Maybe I missed something?

  44. 2 stars
My dough was super wet and sticky. Is it supposed to be like that? Not sure what went wrong.

    1. User avatar ezekiel.yost50 says:

      3 stars
I don’t think it should be that sticky. Maybe measure your butter right? Or leave it out for a bit to get less soft next time!

    2. 4 stars
It sounds like your dough might have too much wet ingredients. Try adding a little more flour, that usually helps! Good luck!

  45. 5 stars
These turned out dangerously good. The peppermint kicks in right at the end and the chocolate stays rich. I baked mine 1-2 minutes longer because my oven runs cool, but otherwise followed the recipe—10/10 festive.

    1. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

      3 stars
Okay but I baked mine 10 min like the recipe and they were kinda dry? Maybe my peppermint candies were too big or I overmixed the flour. Still tastes good though.

    2. User avatar cecily.cummerata33 says:

      5 stars
Yesss—“dangerously good” is exactly right 😅 The peppermint late hit is such a nice touch. I’m baking these again for my holiday cookie box.

  46. User avatar ivory.swift21 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe and it didn’t work out for me. My cookies turned out flat and hard. Not sure what I did wrong…

    1. 4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Sometimes cookies can turn out flat if the butter is too warm or if you didn’t measure the flour correctly. Don’t give up! Keep trying!

  47. 5 stars
These cookies are a festive delight! The mix of chocolate and peppermint is just perfect. Definitely a 5-star treat!

  48. User avatar louis.jast1989 says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe exactly and mine came out kind of dry and crumbly. Could be I overmixed after adding the flour? Or my cocoa was different.

    1. User avatar heriberto.harber20 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, I bet it’s the overmixing after the flour. Once the dry ingredients go in, mixing just until “combined” is key—otherwise the cocoa cookies can get dry/crumbly for sure.

    2. User avatar sina.langosh says:

      3 stars
I’ve had this happen too. Also make sure your dough isn’t too stiff—if it sat and dried out while you preheated, it can bake up dry. Next time try letting the dough come together, then bake right away.

  49. User avatar lonna.homenick21 says:

    4 stars
Easy recipe. I don’t even like peppermint that much but the chocolate carries it. Quick and yummy.

    1. User avatar bobbie.kuhn says:

      5 stars
Totally agree— the chocolate really smooths out the peppermint. I also only like peppermint “a little” and these are still super good. Quick bake too!

  50. User avatar marcelo.schumm0 says:

    2 stars
Why would you put peppermint in cookies? That sounds weird. Chocolate should be alone, no mint! 😒

  51. User avatar harold.hegmann78 says:

    4 stars
Cookies are a myth, but these ones are real good.

  52. User avatar almeta.davis says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, but the flavors just don’t mix well for me. The peppermint was too strong. 2 stars.

  53. User avatar ione.walter says:

    4 stars
Yum!! These are so good! A little crunchy, a little chewy, just perfect!

  54. 3 stars
Nice recipe! But, isn’t it hard to crush those candies? 😅

  55. User avatar foster.schoen79 says:

    4 stars
I halved the recipe and made them with my kids. Super fun! The crushed candies add an awesome crunch. Yummy!

    1. 5 stars
That sounds awesome! I bet the kids had a blast. Can’t wait to try it myself!

  56. 4 stars
I bet these would be amazing with white chocolate instead of regular chips! Anyone try that?

  57. User avatar brooks.olson8 says:

    3 stars
I tried this but forgot the peppermint haha. Still tasted good, but I think I missed the point. Next time I’ll remember!

  58. 5 stars
OMG, I can’t believe how good these taste! I melted some chocolate on top and now they are just perfection! 🥰

  59. 3 stars
I followed the recipe step by step but mine turned out dry. What did I do wrong? 😟

    1. User avatar dong.sanford52 says:

      4 stars
Maybe you baked them too long? Try reducing the time a bit next time. Good luck! 😊

    2. User avatar elisa.grady1983 says:

      3 stars
I had the same problem once! I think I may have added too much flour by accident. It could be that! 🤔

  60. User avatar ayanna.gleichner1954 says:

    3 stars
Not my cup of tea. Prefer plain chocolate cookies.
