Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips and crushed peppermint candies.
Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10 minutes, or until set.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
