Chicken fajitas are a flavorful, sizzling dish that brings together tender marinated chicken, sautéed bell peppers, and onions, all served with warm tortillas and your favorite toppings. This Tex-Mex classic is perfect for casual family dinners, weeknight meals, or even a festive gathering. It’s quick to prepare, full of bold flavors, and always a crowd-pleaser.
To make chicken fajitas, start by marinating thinly sliced chicken breasts in a mix of lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin, chili powder, paprika, and a bit of salt and pepper. The marinade infuses the chicken with a zesty, smoky flavor that enhances the natural tenderness of the meat. After marinating for at least 30 minutes, the chicken is quickly cooked in a hot skillet until golden brown and juicy.
While the chicken cooks, bell peppers and onions are sautéed until they’re tender and slightly caramelized, adding sweetness and texture to the dish. The peppers provide a burst of color and freshness that balances the richness of the chicken. A squeeze of lime juice over the cooked vegetables brightens up the dish and adds a touch of acidity.
Once everything is cooked, assemble the fajitas by serving the chicken and veggies with soft flour tortillas. You can add your favorite toppings like guacamole, sour cream, salsa, shredded cheese, and fresh cilantro. For extra heat, a few slices of jalapeño or a drizzle of hot sauce can be added.
Chicken fajitas are incredibly versatile. You can easily adjust the heat level to your liking by modifying the spice in the marinade or adding more toppings. For a lighter version, you can swap flour tortillas for corn tortillas or even serve the fajita filling in a lettuce wrap.
This dish is perfect for serving family-style, letting everyone customize their fajitas to their own taste. Whether enjoyed on a busy weeknight or at a fun gathering, chicken fajitas are always a hit with their irresistible combination of smoky, zesty flavors and fresh toppings.

This recipe was super easy and turned out delicious! My family loved it!
These fajitas are mid. Like, good for a weekday, but nothing special. Also I accidentally used lemon instead of lime and it still tasted fine.
Mid is fair lol—mine usually comes out pretty tasty but I have to add extra stuff (like extra chili powder or a squeeze of fresh lime) to make it pop. Still, weekday win for sure.
Lemon instead of lime?? I mean… acidic is acidic 😅 I did that once with tacos and didn’t notice. For fajitas though, I’d crank the seasoning or do a quick cilantro-lime finish. But your timing looks solid!
I followed the recipe but it didn’t taste like my mom’s. Maybe she had a secret ingredient.
Maybe try adding some extra spices or a pinch of sugar? That’s what my mom does!
No offense, but can’t you just ask her for the secret? Moms usually love sharing their tricks!
Yum! Such a quick meal. I made it in like 30 mins. Best recipe ever!
I followed it pretty much exactly, but my chicken felt a touch dry. Maybe I overcooked it, because I went closer to 8-9 minutes. Still tasty though.
These fajitas were amazing! So flavorful and easy to make. My kids loved them too!
Not bad at all! The peppers were nice and tender and the tortillas warmed up great. I’d recommend letting the chicken marinate longer if you have time.
They were okay, but I thought they could use more flavor. Maybe add more chili powder?
These fajitas were a hit! The marinade was so flavorful and the chicken was juicy. Totally recommend!
I don’t know about those spices. What if I don’t have one? Can I just use salt?
Fajitas!!! Yummy 😋
These are ok but I think they could use some more kick. Maybe try jalapenos?
I totally agree! Some jalapenos would add a nice spicy touch. Thanks for the tip!
Yum! I just used what I had in fridge and it worked! Chicken, bell-peppers and some cheese. Super easy!
I don’t understand why you use flour tortillas. Corn is better for fajitas?! But the chicken was okay.
These fajitas were amazing! So easy to make and full of flavor. Will definitely make again.
I agree, these are the best fajitas ever! I made them last night and my family loved them. Thanks for sharing!
They were good, but I found them a bit too spicy. Next time I might skip the chili powder.
Why do you have lime in there? Like, isn’t that just a weird add-on? 🤔
I don’t think fajitas should have lime juice in them… couldn’t taste it anyway.
Tortillas are not for me, I used lettuce leaves instead. Still yum. 😄
This is delicious and super easy. I’ll add mushrooms next time because why not? Also the lime makes it taste fresh, not bland.
Yes!! The lime really does brighten it up—mine gets kinda bland without it. Mushrooms sound awesome too, will totally try that next time.
This is not how you make real fajitas! You gotta grill them for that smokey flavor.
I mean, grilling is nice and all, but you can still make tasty fajitas in a skillet! This looks really good.
Who needs grilling? This is how I’ve always made em and my fam loves them! Smoked flavor ain’t all that.
Yum!
I tried this recipe last night and it was fantastic! So much flavor! Thanks for sharing!
Fajitas! Yum! I just used whatever peppers I had in the fridge. 🍴
I dunno, is it really that easy? What if the peppers are too soft? 🤔
That sounds delicious! I love using different peppers. It adds such a nice flavor! 🌶️
Not bad, but I think it needed more spices. I ended up adding some jalapeños for heat.
I don’t know, if I wanted to spin my wheels all day, I could just eat plain chicken.
Didn’t work for me. Chicken was dry and the peppers were too crunchy!
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe try cooking the chicken for less time next time? It can dry out if overcooked.
These were the best fajitas I’ve ever made! Super easy and tasted amazing.
I followed the recipe exactly, but it turned out way too spicy for my kids. Maybe needs less chili powder.
I don’t have a large bowl so I just mixed the marinade right in a ziplock with the chicken. It coated fine. Quick dinner idea, 10/10
This is a basic recipe but it’s really good for a quick dinner. Sometimes I use whatever veggies I have left in the fridge.
Quick and yum! I added some jalapeños for a kick. Highly recommend!
This was so easy to make! My family loved it. The flavors are amazing!
Best fajitas ever! I made them for a party and everyone went crazy for them.
I tried making these, but I think I overcooked the chicken. It turned out kinda dry. Maybe I need to practice more.
My husband said these are the best fajitas he ever had! They really taste like they are from a restaurant.
Fajitas are lit! I made these with my kids. They had a blast!
Good recipe, but what’s the lime really for? Just for show? 🤔
I think the tortillas would’ve benefited from toasting longer—mine were a bit soft. Next time I’ll dry-toast in the skillet for a minute or two.
Yeah I dunno about the cumin. Doesn’t sound right to me. 🤷♂️
Tortillas just fall apart, real annoying. Maybe I used the wrong kind? Idk.
My kids loved it. I warmed tortillas and they ate them like tacos right away. I forgot to slice the onion thin and it was kinda crunchy, lol.
OMG so tasty! Who knew it was this simple? I’m like a chef now! LOL!
I tried this but used steak instead. Still turned out great! 🚀
Steak?! That’s interesting! I never thought of that. I’ll have to give it a try. 😊
But steak ain’t the same as chicken! You should try it with the chicken next time. 🤔
Fajitas are not supposed to have lime in them, right? Is there a mistake here? I’m not sure I trust this…
I don’t like paprika. Can I just skip it? Asking for a friend.
I’m not a big fan of those peppers. Can I leave them out? What should I replace them with?
Too much onion for me, I’ll cut back next time.
These fajitas were amazing! The spices gave such great flavor. My family loved them! Will definitely make again!
I’m glad you loved them! The spices really do make the dish pop. What did you serve with it?
Made these tonight—so flavorful! The lime really brightens everything and the spices taste balanced. My chicken cooked through perfectly in about 6 minutes.
Not a fan. The spices were too strong for my taste. I prefer plain chicken with a little salt.
These were so tasty! My family loved them! Will definitely make again!
Fajitas? More like fatitas LOL. So good but too much!
Easy to make and better than takeout! My kids loved them!
I’m so glad your kids enjoyed them! They’re a fave in my house too. 🥳
Meh. Tasted fine but not life-changing. I think I’ve had better fajitas at restaurants with a longer marinade.
Simple and delicious, I added some jalapenos for extra heat. Yum!
I love jalapenos! Makes everything better. Great idea!
Is this recipe really that good? I mean, it sounds okay, but I dunno…
Wow, I only had red peppers and they worked fine! Really tasty!
Delicious! I added some jalapeños for extra kick. Definitely making this again!
Yummy! Can’t wait to impress my friends with this! 🌮🌶️
So easy and the kitchen smelled like a taco spot. I added a bit of sliced jalapeño for heat and it was next-level.
sounds good but i always mess up the lime part lol. do you mean fresh lime juice? i used bottled once and it tasted kinda flat. still, easy tho.
Yesss! That taco-spot smell is real. I love that you added jalapeño—going to try it next time for extra kick 🔥
Meh, not great. I expected more flavor. Just kinda bland to me.
I followed it exactly and my chicken came out a little dry at 7 minutes. Maybe my pan was hotter than medium-high. Flavor was great though.
I don’t know, man. They turned out kinda dry. I followed the recipe but it just didn’t work for me. Disappointed.
Dry? That’s weird. I think it might be the chicken brand you used or something. I had great results!
I’m sorry to hear that! Sometimes the chicken can dry out if it’s cooked too long. Maybe try a lower heat next time?
Easy recipe but I accidentally burnt the chicken. My fault not the recipe’s!
I’m new to cooking but this was easy. I kinda rushed the sauté and my peppers were more crunchy than I wanted, lol—still tasty!
Why do you add garlic powder? Can’t you just use fresh garlic? Just a thought.
I ran out of cumin so I swapped in smoked paprika… honestly I think it worked even better? The flavors felt richer than expected.
It was okay but felt like something was missing, maybe more spice? Not sure.
I’ve never cooked anything like this before, so I was nervous. But it turned out fantastic! Thanks!
Yum! My family devoured them! Only had green peppers, but it worked just fine. 😋
Tastes good, but I’m not a fan of the lime. Is there a substitute?
I love how easy this was! I added some jalapeños for extra heat. Definitely making again!
