Blue Lagoon Cocktail

April 17, 2026

The Blue Lagoon cocktail is a vibrant and refreshing drink known for its striking blue color and citrus-forward flavor. Often associated with summer parties, beach settings, and tropical-themed gatherings, it is both visually appealing and easy to enjoy. Its bright appearance and light, sweet taste have made it a popular choice for those who prefer colorful and approachable cocktails.

At its core, the Blue Lagoon is typically made with vodka, blue curaçao, and lemonade or lemon-lime soda. The vodka provides a clean alcoholic base, while blue curaçao contributes both a sweet orange flavor and the cocktail’s signature vivid blue hue. The lemonade or soda adds a refreshing citrus brightness that balances the sweetness and gives the drink its crisp, bubbly character.

One of the most defining features of the Blue Lagoon cocktail is its appearance. The electric blue color makes it instantly recognizable and visually striking in any glass. It is usually served over ice in a tall glass, which enhances its refreshing quality and makes it ideal for warm weather occasions. Garnishes such as a slice of lemon, orange, or a maraschino cherry are often added to enhance both presentation and flavor.

The flavor profile of the Blue Lagoon is light, sweet, and citrusy, making it an accessible cocktail for a wide range of tastes. It is not overly strong or complex, which contributes to its popularity at casual events where easy-drinking beverages are preferred. Its simplicity also makes it easy to adjust, with variations that may include sparkling water for a lighter version or different citrus mixers for added depth.

Beyond its taste, the Blue Lagoon, same as pina colada cocktail is appreciated for its festive and tropical feel. It often evokes a sense of relaxation and vacation-like enjoyment, making it a go-to option for summer parties, poolside gatherings, and celebrations.

With its eye-catching color, refreshing citrus flavor, and easygoing nature, the Blue Lagoon cocktail remains a classic choice for those looking to enjoy a fun and visually stunning drink.

I tried making this but I don’t have blue caro-sauce. Can I use something else instead? Just feels like a waste of time without it.

    1. User avatar Rosendo Pollich says:

      3 stars
Just replace it with like, regular syrup or something. Blue isn’t THAT important, right? 😂

    2. User avatar wellRespected says:

      4 stars
You can use orange curaçao or even triple sec if you have that! It won’t be exactly the same, but it’ll be still tasty! Don’t give up!

  2. 5 stars
Wow! Made it for my friends, and they loved it! Better than my usual drink. Will definitely keep this recipe!

  3. User avatar denver.mcdermott says:

Been making this for years. Perfect for summer. Just don’t forget the cherry! It really makes it pop! 🍒

    1. User avatar vannessa.larson16 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree! The cherry makes all the difference. 🍒✨

  4. User avatar stormy.rippin23 says:

This cocktail is absolutely stunning! The color is unreal and it tastes just as good as it looks. Will definitely make this at parties!

    1. User avatar sonny.dibbert14 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This cocktail looks like the ocean in a glass! 🍹

    2. User avatar cletus.streich says:

      2 stars
Sounds good, but isn’t blue curaçao just food coloring? Not sure if it’s worth the hype.

  5. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    2 stars
I don’t get what’s so special about this drink. It’s just lemonade with some vodka and blue stuff. 2 stars for the color, tho.

  6. User avatar delorse.graham says:

    1 star
Idk about the ingredients. Sounds kinda fancy for my taste. Just give me a beer!

  7. 4 stars
The color is unreal 😂 Blue curaçao + lemonade is a nice combo. I used fresh lemon and it tasted even cleaner.

    1. User avatar earl.considine1970 says:

      5 stars
Ooh that “unreal” blue is exactly what I want for a summer drink 😂 I’ve always loved how blue curaçao looks in anything.

  8. 3 stars
Could you use triple sec instead of blue curaçao? I didn’t have it and didn’t want to run to the store. Also, does it still stay blue?

    1. User avatar andres.ohara says:

      4 stars
Yes, you can swap triple sec in a pinch. It’ll taste a bit less “blue” and more orange-lime-y, but it’ll still be a similar vibe. As for staying blue—triple sec usually won’t, so you’d need food coloring or a blue-tinted mixer to keep the color.

  9. 5 stars
Loved this refreshing drink! Perfect for summer parties. 🍹

  10. User avatar Hillman Hunter says:

    3 stars
Idk, mine was kinda too tart. I think my lemonade was extra sour, so next time I’ll adjust with a bit more vodka or less lemonade.

    1. 4 stars
Interesting—Blue Curaçao can definitely make it taste sharper. I’d start by cutting the lemonade to 3 oz and keep the vodka at 1 oz, then adjust from there. “More vodka” usually won’t fix tartness much though, it mostly changes strength.

  11. User avatar wellRespected says:

    2 stars
Honestly didn’t taste “lagoon” vibes at all. More like blue vodka. Maybe I used the wrong curaçao?

  12. User avatar jess.rodriguez says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, blue curaçao always tastes a little artificial to me. Still decent though if you like that vibe.

  13. User avatar sara.crist1 says:

    2 stars
Honestly? I’m not a fan of blue drinks. But I’ll admit, the cherry garnish made me try it and it was alright.

  14. User avatar Ra'zhinda says:

    3 stars
Could someone clarify if “blue curaçao” is the same as triple sec? I used the wrong bottle once and it was not the right vibe.

  15. User avatar cameron.hickle92 says:

    3 stars
Couldn’t shake “well” because I only had a jar. I just stirred aggressively and it was still good, but maybe not as cold.

    1. User avatar shin.streich65 says:

      4 stars
Honestly, that still sounds like the right move—stirring aggressively can chill it enough. If it wasn’t as cold, I’d just add a bit more ice next time.

  16. User avatar Tricia McMillan says:

    5 stars
This drink is amazing! Perfect for summer parties. The blue color is just stunning!

    1. User avatar denna.bailey4 says:

      5 stars
Absolutely! The color is so vibrant! Perfect for beach vibes.

    2. User avatar carroll.hauck says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but isn’t blue curaçao just sugar water? 😅

  17. User avatar Lintilla says:

    3 stars
Cute color, but I was expecting it to be sweeter. Mine tasted more like a vodka lemonade with blue dye energy 😅

  18. User avatar clementina.auer says:

    5 stars
The blue curaçao makes it look like a sci-fi drink. I’m not complaining. Easy, refreshing, and pretty.

  19. User avatar alvin.walter9 says:

    4 stars
Tried this for the first time last night and I’m totally hooked! So refreshing!

  20. User avatar Dr. Gero says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have a shaker so I just stirred—still turned out okay, but it wasn’t as cold. Will shake next time.

  21. User avatar sharleen.hahn says:

    2 stars
Seems too sweet for me. I prefer drinks that are more on the bitter side.

  22. User avatar jermaine.kuvalis53 says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but I think I added too much lemonade. A little too sweet for my taste.

  23. User avatar colton.glover says:

    2 stars
I tried this and it came out watered down. Probably my ice was melting fast—use larger cubes!

  24. User avatar louie.jacobson20 says:

    5 stars
So bright and refreshing! The blue curaçao really makes it look like a vacation. I used fresh lemonade and it was *chef’s kiss*.

  25. User avatar elizebeth.wyman72 says:

    5 stars
Honestly, I was skeptical at first but wow, this was a hit! Friends loved it!

    1. User avatar antony.ondricka says:

      5 stars
I’m glad it turned out great for you! I’m thinking of trying it at my next party too.

    2. User avatar annita.stiedemann58 says:

      2 stars
Really? I find that hard to believe. How can a drink be that good? Seems too simple.

  26. User avatar branda.kutch62 says:

    1 star
looked great but tasted weird. Not what I was expectin, haha!

  27. User avatar edwin.glover54 says:

    2 stars
Meh, didn’t really impress me. Took too long to make. 2 out of 5.

    1. User avatar joe_banana says:

      3 stars
I totally get what you mean! I was excited to make it but it took forever. Just go for something simpler next time!

    2. User avatar michaele.heller33 says:

      4 stars
2 out of 5? Wow, that seems harsh! I thought it was fun to make and tasted great! Maybe you just had a bad day? 🍹

  28. 3 stars
I don’t get the hype. It was just OK. Maybe I used too much lemonade? 🤷‍♂️

  29. 5 stars
This is dangerously easy. The blue color is so pretty and the lemonade keeps it from being too sweet. I used fresh lemon and it popped.

  30. User avatar hosea.kuhlman77 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I found it a little too sweet with 4 oz lemonade. Next time I’ll reduce the lemonade to 3 oz and see how it balances.

  31. User avatar mathWizard says:

    2 stars
Meh. Not bad but not special.

    1. User avatar dion.stiedemann2004 says:

      3 stars
Yeah, I felt that too—nice color and it’s refreshing, but it doesn’t really “wow” you. Maybe try adding a splash more lemonade or using a citrusy vodka?

    2. 4 stars
Honestly I think it’s pretty special for how simple it is. Blue curaçao + lemonade tastes like summer to me. Add extra ice? Idk, mine always comes out great.

  32. User avatar Spriggan Matron says:

    4 stars
Why is it called Blue Lagoon? Because it’s blue and watery? Still, it’s pretty and easy to make. I’m not complaining.

    1. User avatar cole.krajcik says:

      3 stars
Blue Lagoon… I always thought it was like some island thing lol. But okay, easy recipe. Would it be sweeter if I use more lemonade or should I add a splash of simple syrup?

    2. User avatar clifford.bartell2001 says:

      5 stars
Honestly the name makes sense—blue + watery vibe. And yeah, this sounds super straightforward. I like cocktails that don’t fight back 😄

  33. User avatar morton.marvin1962 says:

    4 stars
What the heck is blue curaçao? I just used my grandma’s old lemonade and vodka. Still tasted fine!

  34. User avatar Link (Goron) says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly but mine tasted a little too sweet. Next time I’ll cut the lemonade by an oz or add a squeeze of lime.

  35. User avatar tommie.hoppe20 says:

    5 stars
    Easy peasy.

    1. User avatar teodoro.stamm50 says:

      5 stars
Easy peasy indeed—just shake it up and you’ve got that bright blue vibe! 🥤

  36. User avatar lajuana.brakus1969 says:

    4 stars
I love cocktails that are quick. Shaken + strained into a glass with ice is the move. Garnish makes it look fancy.

  37. User avatar lashaun.gleichner says:

    5 stars
Yum! Made this for my friend’s birthday, and they all loved it! Gonna make again!

  38. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun drink—looks like a cartoon vacation. The lemonade really balances the blue curaçao.

    1. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—looks like a vacation in a glass 😄 The lemonade keeps it from tasting too sweet.

  39. User avatar ronald.abernathy says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and mine turned kinda cloudy? I shook with ice but maybe I strained too late. Still drank it though—just looked less “lagoon” and more “mystery potion.”

  40. User avatar hubert.rice2017 says:

    3 stars
Does anyone else feel like vodka gets lost here? Like it mostly tastes citrusy. Still, it’s pretty and easy.

    1. User avatar bernard.emard says:

      4 stars
Yeah I noticed that too—after the blue curaçao + lemonade, the vodka basically disappears. Still tastes super refreshing though.

    2. User avatar verlie.pagac2008 says:

      3 stars
I disagree a bit. If you use a good vodka it’s noticeable, but the citrus is definitely the main vibe. Maybe you just need more booze or less lemonade?

  41. User avatar norris.jacobson says:

    4 stars
My kid asked if it’s a “real” ocean drink 😅 Tastes sweet-tart and the color is gorgeous. I might add a splash of soda next time to lighten it up.

  42. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    3 stars
The instructions are simple, but I wish it said whether to use fresh lemonade or bottled. I used bottled and it was okay.

  43. User avatar wilbur.pfeffer says:

    3 stars
Blue Curaçao is kinda expensive where I live, so I used a cheaper blue liqueur. Color was great but the taste was flatter. Might be worth buying the real thing.

    1. 5 stars
That makes total sense—blue curaçao’s flavor can really vary by brand. If the cheaper one is more artificial or less citrus-forward, the “pop” probably disappears. Next time you could try bumping up fresh lemon juice or using a slightly more flavorful lemonade to bring the taste back.

  44. User avatar jere.feest87 says:

    2 stars
Honestly, blue cocktails are usually too artificial tasting. This one was okay, but I expected more “wow” from the flavor. Could be my brand of curaçao.

  45. User avatar micha.funk says:

    5 stars
This is my go-to for parties. The chilled glass step is underrated—otherwise the whole thing warms up too fast.

  46. User avatar josh.larkin says:

    2 stars
Honestly, 4 oz lemonade feels like a lot—mine turned out more like flavored juice than a cocktail. Maybe try 2–3 oz?

  47. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

    4 stars
Way better than I expected—balanced and refreshing. The only tweak I’d make is a little less blue curaçao because I’m not a fan of super sweet cocktails.

  48. User avatar Frost Atronach says:

    5 stars
Just made this—so vibrant! The flavor is actually super refreshing, not overly sweet. Shaking with lots of ice really matters.

  49. User avatar grant.witting1951 says:

    2 stars
Just had this at a bar once and it was way sweeter. Your recipe feels more tart; could be I’m used to the syrupy version.

    1. User avatar quentin.reinger2000 says:

      4 stars
Maybe your bar used more curaçao or a sweeter mixer. But 4 oz lemonade can be pretty tart depending on the brand—next time try adding like 1/2 oz simple syrup and see.

    2. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

      5 stars
Yeah, I get what you mean. Some bar versions cut the lemonade with extra simple syrup or use a sweeter lemonade concentrate, so they end up syrupy instead of tart.

  50. User avatar jerrold.cummerata says:

    3 stars
Mine turned a weird shade of greenish-blue… maybe my curaçao is old. Also I forgot to garnish and it still tasted fine, but looked less festive.

  51. User avatar Miss Evan Reilly says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I expected it to be stronger. It’s tasty, but the vodka feels kinda lost under the lemonade.

    1. User avatar Tyron Schneider says:

      5 stars
Yeah I get that—4 oz lemonade is pretty dominant. Next time try a 1:1 ratio (reduce lemonade to like 3 oz) or use a “bigger” pour of vodka so it doesn’t get swallowed.

  52. User avatar joane.schuster71 says:

    5 stars
So refreshing! The blue color is gorgeous and the lemonade makes it taste way less “alcohol-y.” I used fresh lemon too—10/10.

  53. User avatar sal.bins90 says:

    5 stars
This tastes like a vacation. The blue curaçao + lemonade combo is super refreshing and not too sweet for me—I’d definitely make it again.

    1. User avatar charles.stamm says:

      4 stars
I tried it once and it was fine, but I think 4 oz lemonade might be a bit much if your curaçao is already sweet. Next time I’ll cut the lemonade down a little—unless someone has a better ratio?

    2. User avatar ivan.osinski2 says:

      5 stars
Absolutely agree—this feels like summer in a glass. The color is gorgeous too! I also like that the lemonade keeps the blue curaçao from getting cloying.

  54. User avatar bradford.mccullough10 says:

    4 stars
My shaker leaked a bit (thanks, me), but the flavor was on point. Also, the cherry garnish is cute even if I forgot to pit it.

  55. 5 stars
Made it for friends and everyone asked for the recipe. Shaking it with lots of ice makes it taste super crisp.

  56. User avatar delora.schimmel says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps and it still tastes a bit flat. Maybe my lemonade was too watery? Next time I’ll chill the glass more.

    1. User avatar yasmin.walter1972 says:

      3 stars
Hmm I think it’s more the blue curaçao—if it’s not super sweet/strong, it can come out flat. Also did you use fresh lemon for the garnish? Mine tastes best when the lemonade is cold-cold and the glass is *really* chilled.

    2. User avatar marchelle.mccullough says:

      4 stars
That definitely could be it—watery lemonade makes cocktails taste watered down. I’d try using a stronger lemonade (or even a less diluted concentrate) and shake a bit longer so it really blends with the curaçao.

  57. User avatar jacques.weber66 says:

    3 stars
I think you could cut the vodka a little—it’s strong for such a sweet drink. I added more lemonade and it balanced nicely.

  58. User avatar manual.kohler says:

    2 stars
I don’t shake cocktails much, I just stir—would that work? Also is 4 oz lemonade maybe too much for 2 oz liquor? Anyway looks nice though.

  59. User avatar Leto Atreides says:

    4 stars
Tried it exactly as written. I like it, but I think 4 oz lemonade might be a bit too tart for me. Still a great summer vibe though.

  60. 3 stars
Blue drinks always look cool, but I find curaçao can be kinda artificial. Still, the garnish helps and it’s a fun party option.

  61. 2 stars
I think 4 oz lemonade is too much—mine turned out more like a blue lemonade than a cocktail. Next time I’ll cut it to 2-3 oz.

    1. User avatar elmo.walter says:

      4 stars
Interesting, mine did the opposite—still super blue but a little too sweet. I think 2–3 oz makes sense if you want more balance.

    2. 5 stars
Good call—4 oz lemonade could easily overpower the curaçao. I usually go lighter on the mixer too so the blue stays vibrant.

  62. User avatar Super Saiyan Vegeta says:

    4 stars
    Nice! 🔥

  63. User avatar odell.bahringer7 says:

    1 star
I messed up the ratio… mine was way too sweet. Still, the color is pretty tho.

  64. User avatar erline.hegmann68 says:

    4 stars
The color looks like pool water (in a good way). Not super fancy but it’s a fun summer drink.

    1. User avatar cristi.macgyver says:

      5 stars
Haha yes! That pool-water blue is exactly what I was hoping for 😄 Super refreshing for summer.

  65. User avatar Etsuko Turcotte says:

    5 stars
Made this for my friends and it was a hit—so pretty and tastes way fresher than I expected. The blue is seriously awesome in the glass.

  66. 3 stars
I’m not sure about the vodka + blue curaçao combo. It tasted kind of like candy soda to me, not in a bad way—just unexpected.

    1. 4 stars
Nah I think it’s fine lol. The blue is strong but vodka still comes through. Next time maybe add more ice or shake longer—mine always tastes more legit after a good shake.

    2. User avatar lynn.stoltenberg10 says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—blue curaçao is basically “candy vibes,” so pairing it with vodka can taste like a fun soda instead of a classic cocktail. If you want it less sweet, try reducing the curaçao a bit or using a drier lemonade.

  67. User avatar nobuko.gutmann1965 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps exactly and it came out bright and pretty. I used fresh lemon and it lifted the flavor a lot. Easy cocktail, love it.

    1. User avatar roland.wehner14 says:

      5 stars
Nice! “Blue Lagoon” is supposed to look bright like that 😄 Fresh lemon usually makes a bigger difference than bottled stuff.

  68. 5 stars
Really good in a tall glass. I used fresh lemons for the garnish and it smelled amazing. Would make again.

    1. 3 stars
Hmm I tried it but I did 2 oz lemonade once and it tasted kinda flat. Maybe I need to shake longer? Still, the color is super cool.

    2. User avatar Brittney Windler says:

      5 stars
Yesss—tall glass makes it look so fancy. Fresh lemon garnish is the move too; I bet it really punches up the aroma!

  69. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have a shaker so I stirred in a jar with lots of ice. It worked (kinda), but the dilution was off—next time I’ll shake. Flavor was still good.

  70. User avatar sharonda.emard1995 says:

    5 stars
    So good!!

  71. User avatar imelda.rolfson75 says:

    2 stars
Isn’t this basically a Blue Hawaiian? I think you’re missing coconut or something. Still, it’s decent.

  72. User avatar alec.gleason34 says:

    2 stars
It was fine but not mind-blowing. Also the instructions say “shake well” but it didn’t really chill that much—maybe I didn’t shake long enough?

    1. User avatar everette.watsica16 says:

      3 stars
Mine didn’t chill much either. I thought the lemonade would be colder to start, but maybe it’s just the ratio? Like it tastes fine but not like bar-level.

    2. 4 stars
Yeah, “shake well” is kind of vague. I usually do like 20–30 seconds with plenty of ice, and it gets noticeably colder.

  73. User avatar javier.murray1990 says:

    1 star
One star. I shook it for like 10 minutes and it came out watery. Maybe my ice was too big or my lemonade was wrong.

  74. User avatar melodee.cronin2017 says:

    5 stars
This tastes like blue candy and lemonade had a baby 😅. Honestly, I’m obsessed. 10/10 for parties.

  75. User avatar arie.skiles13 says:

    5 stars
That bright blue is so fun—made it for friends and everyone asked for the recipe. Shaking with lots of ice really chills it fast.

  76. User avatar roberta.carroll says:

    2 stars
This tastes kinda medicinal to me. I think my blue curaçao is old or maybe I got a cheap one.

  77. User avatar rosann.durgan2007 says:

    5 stars
Made it for friends and they all asked for the recipe. Shaking with lots of ice really does make it nicer and colder.

Yes!! I always notice it turns way better when I really load the shaker with ice. Glad it worked for your friends 😄

I dunno if I’m shaking it right… I usually just stir. But the “colder” part makes sense. Do you shake like a lot like 30 seconds or more?

Turned out pretty good, but mine was a little too tart. Next time I’ll try reducing the lemonade by a splash. Still looks awesome in the glass.

Really refreshing, but I think 4 oz lemonade is a bit tart for me. Next time I’ll use a little less or add more vodka.

Totally agree—4 oz lemonade can hit pretty tart depending on the brand. I usually start with 2–3 oz and adjust from there. Adding extra vodka instead of lemonade is an interesting workaround though 😄

4 oz tart?? I love it that way. 😂 But yeah, different taste buds. I’d personally add a splash more curaçao or even a tiny bit of simple syrup if you want it smoother.
