Baked Stuffed Figs

March 27, 2024

Baked stuffed figs are the kind of dish that feels luxurious without much effort. With just a handful of ingredients, you can create a sweet, savory, and slightly tangy treat that works beautifully as an appetizer, cheese board addition, or even a light dessert.

Fresh figs are naturally soft and sweet, and when baked, their flavor intensifies. To make them extra special, they’re stuffed with a rich filling, usually a mix of creamy cheese like goat cheese, ricotta, or mascarpone and a handful of chopped nuts such as walnuts, pistachios, or almonds. The contrast between the creamy, tangy cheese and the crunch of the nuts is part of what makes this dish so appealing.

To prepare, slice each fig lengthwise down the center, being careful not to cut all the way through. Gently open them up and spoon in a bit of your cheese-nut mixture. A touch of honey or maple syrup drizzled on top before baking enhances their natural sweetness and helps the tops caramelize just slightly in the oven.

Bake them in a preheated oven until they’re warm, soft, and just starting to bubble around the edges. The heat brings out the fig’s jammy texture and allows the cheese to melt slightly into the fruit, creating an irresistible bite.

For added flair, a sprinkle of fresh thyme or rosemary before serving adds an herbal note that balances the sweetness. You can also drizzle a bit of balsamic glaze over the top for a tangy finish that really makes the flavors pop.

These baked stuffed figs are simple yet sophisticated. They make a stunning addition to any dinner party, especially when served warm alongside a glass of wine or a sparkling cocktail. Whether you’re looking to impress guests or just treat yourself to something special, this dish is a beautiful reminder that elegance often lies in simplicity.

I tried it, but my figs were super soft and almost collapsed when I cut the stems off. Still tasted great though—maybe I’ll use firmer figs next time.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah, that sounds like the figs were just a bit too ripe. I’ve had that happen—next time try using firmer figs and only score the tops lightly. Also letting them cool longer can help them hold their shape when you cut/serve.

Honestly, I thought figs would be bland but nope. The cross-scoring helps and the honey caramelized a bit. Real crowd-pleaser.

This recipe is dangerously good. I ate three before serving… and then “shared” the rest. No complaints from guests either.

I tried something similar and mine took like 25 minutes, not 10… maybe my figs were bigger. Still tasty though. Would definitely make again!

Okay but “three before serving” is basically a confidence test 😂 These sound dangerously easy—goat cheese + honey is a winner.

Too complicated for me, I just wanna eat food, not prepare it. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

I don’t get why everyone is raving about these… they weren’t as good as I thought they’d be.

Followed the steps pretty much exactly. My figs were softer than I expected after 10 minutes, but the flavor was perfect—sweet, creamy, and a little nutty.

  11. User avatar Boris McCullough says:

I’m not sure about goat cheese + figs together. The flavor was okay, but I didn’t love the tang. Maybe I’d swap in cream cheese next time.

These were amazing! I couldn’t believe how good they tasted. Perfect for a party!

lol i overbaked and they got all mushy. but when i added extra honey it was still like dessert. would make again, maybe lower temp?

  14. 5 stars
I was skeptical at first, but wow! The honey really brings it all together. 🍯

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, I think the honey could be too sweet. Can’t we just enjoy figs as they are? 🤔

    2. User avatar jeane.bartell10 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The honey just ties everything together. Plus, figs and cheese are such a great combo! 😊

Easiest recipe ever! My kids helped me stuff the figs and they were gone in no time! 10/10

Mmm, figs! I love them, but these didn’t taste like much. Should I add spices?

  17. User avatar ernie.schinner28 says:

Can you do this with dates instead? Because I hate figs. Lol!

  18. User avatar stephen.ritchie97 says:

I dunno about this recipe. Figs ain’t my thing. But I guess you gotta try things, right?

  19. User avatar delora.douglas1980 says:

Not worth the effort, I mean, just eat the cheese and walnuts separately.

  20. 5 stars
I made these for my friends and they can’t stop raving about them! So easy too!

  21. 5 stars
Super easy and looks fancy on a plate. I baked mine a touch longer (like 12 min) because my figs were larger, but they came out great.

    1. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

      5 stars
Love this! Mine took about 11 minutes too—fig sizes really make a difference. The honey finishing touch is perfect.

    2. User avatar Mr. Prosser says:

      3 stars
I tried it but my figs got kind of mushy 😅 maybe I should bake less than 10? Still tasty though. Goat cheese + honey is a great combo.

  22. User avatar arnita.vandervort46 says:

    4 stars
I think 10 minutes is a bit short? Mine needed 5 more minutes to really bake down the figs. Still tasty though, just slightly underdone.

    1. User avatar carlos.goodwin says:

      5 stars
Good point! I figured 10 min would be enough, but figs vary a lot—if yours needed extra bake time, that totally makes sense. Do you bake them on a regular sheet or something like parchment? Next time I’ll probably check for softness/bake-down earlier rather than trusting the timer.

  23. User avatar lara.heller2015 says:

    4 stars
Five minutes in the oven is enough, right? I’m jk 😅 I baked them the full time and they were good, but I wish the walnuts were chopped finer.

  24. User avatar vincenzo.metz says:

    2 stars
I did everything right (I think) but mine came out kinda watery and the cheese melted too much. Could be my oven runs hot? Any tips?

  25. User avatar quincy.roob says:

    4 stars
Yummy, but the figs were a bit hard to find in the store. Ended up using dried figs. Still worked!

  26. 4 stars
I tried it but my oven ran hot, so they browned too fast. Still tasty, but next time I’ll lower the temp a little.

  27. User avatar Random Dent says:

    5 stars
I ain’t a fancy chef but this was super easy! Just what I need for my potluck!

  28. User avatar melania.orn50 says:

You forgot to mention how to tell if the figs are ripe! Mine were hard. 2 stars.

  29. User avatar enola.bode98 says:

Just tried these for the first time. Fig and goat cheese is a combo I can get behind!

  30. User avatar kendal.white says:

These were such a sweet-salty little treat. The goat cheese + walnuts combo is honestly perfect, and the honey drizzle really ties it together. I’ll make these again for sure!

  31. User avatar Fiddlesticks says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 10 minutes feels too short to me. Mine were kind of warm outside but not much happened. I’d bake closer to 15.

  32. User avatar eboni.medhurst29 says:

    5 stars
OMG, I made these for my family and they devoured them! Will make again for sure!

I made these last week and they were amazing too! Such a great appeteaser! 😋

  34. User avatar carrol.reynolds64 says:

Goat cheese + honey + figs sounds fancy but I’m not convinced. It was okay, but I think I would’ve preferred a bit of cinnamon or something. Plain feels a little flat.

  35. User avatar alicia.durgan says:

Why are you stuffing figs with cheese? Sounds gross!

    1. User avatar sterling.gleichner says:

      2 stars
But cheese in figs? That’s weird… Will people even like it? Seems like a strange combo.

    2. User avatar modesto.hegmann says:

      5 stars
I actually think it sounds delicious! The sweetness of the figs combined with the creamy cheese must be amazing.

  36. User avatar michael.gorczany1989 says:

Ain’t nobody eating figs around here. Waste of time if you ask me.

    1. User avatar Falmer Archer says:

      4 stars
I think figs are delicious! They’re sweet and pair well with cheese, you just have to give them a chance.

    2. User avatar gilberte.hamill2024 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, man. Figs are kinda weird. I never saw anyone eat ’em at a party or anything.

  37. 2 stars
Too rich for me, honestly. The goat cheese is strong and the honey makes it sweeter than I like. Would reduce honey next time.

  38. 3 stars
Honey on figs?? That sounds weird, but I’m intrigued. Might give it a go!

  39. User avatar socorro.hodkiewicz1950 says:

These figs are amazing! I never thought about stuffing them like this. Definitely a new favorite! 🍽️

  40. User avatar joni.reichert says:

I’m skeptical about goat cheese in dessert-y stuff, but it works. The nuts add texture and the honey makes it feel indulgent without being too heavy.
