Apple and Cinnamon Samosas

August 8, 2023

Apple and Cinnamon Samosas bring a delicious fusion of flavors to the table by combining the warm comfort of spiced apples with the crisp, golden crunch of traditional samosa pastry. These sweet samosas are perfect for when you want something cozy, nostalgic, and just a little unexpected. Whether served as a dessert, an afternoon snack, or a festive treat, they offer all the charm of apple pie wrapped in a flaky, handheld package.

The filling is simple yet full of flavor. Tart apples like Granny Smith or Pink Lady are diced and cooked down gently with cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg, brown sugar, and a splash of lemon juice. This mixture softens into a sweet-spiced filling that feels like autumn in every bite. Some versions also include raisins or chopped nuts for extra texture and richness.

Instead of using pie crust or puff pastry, these samosas stick to the traditional thin, triangular shell. The dough is rolled out and filled with a spoonful of the apple mixture, then folded and sealed into classic samosa shapes. Once assembled, they’re either fried to a golden crisp or brushed with butter and baked for a lighter version that’s just as satisfying.

The result is a perfect contrast of textures—crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. The cinnamon-sugar aroma that fills the kitchen while they cook is reason enough to make a batch. And because they’re portioned individually, they’re great for sharing or serving at parties.

For an extra treat, serve Apple and Cinnamon Samosas with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. They also pair beautifully with a cup of masala chai or hot spiced cider.

In essence, Apple and Cinnamon Samosas are a creative twist on a classic dessert, blending familiar fall flavors with a beloved South Asian snack format. They’re easy to love, fun to make, and perfect for adding a little warmth and sweetness to any occasion.

These samosas are amazing! I made them for my family and they disappeared in minutes! Definitely a 5-star recipe! 🍏✨

My apples turned brown before I could use them. Maybe add something to prevent that? Cinnamin samosas just sounded wrong too.

    1. User avatar donn.ratke1976 says:

You should add some lemon juice to keep the apples from browning! And trust me, cinnamon and apples are a classic combo. Don’t knock it till you try it!

    2. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

      3 stars
Lemon juice sounds complicated for just apples. And use a little vinegar if you ask me! But yeah, cinnamon samosas? Weird!

  3. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    5 stars
These are delicious! I made them for a party and they were a hit. Will definitely make again!

  4. User avatar mickey.kihn56 says:

I was skeptical about filo (it usually dries out on me), but mine stayed workable and baked up golden. Would make again—maybe add a tiny pinch of nutmeg next time.

  5. User avatar Carey Hammes says:

    4 stars
Took me ages to fold right, but worth it in the end, they taste too good.

  6. User avatar robert.sauer says:

Is it supposed to be lemon juice? I thought it was some other fruit juice. Mine tasted weird.

  7. 5 stars
These are amazing! The cinnamon adds such a nice touch! I could eat a whole plate! 🍏

    1. 5 stars
I love these too! The cinnamon really does make a difference. Have you tried them with a scoop of ice cream? 🍨

  8. User avatar karissa.fay says:

Okay but 15 minutes feels short… Mine were golden on top but the inside wasn’t fully set. I ended up baking like 5 more minutes. Tastes good though.

  9. User avatar Doug O'Connell says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but these turned out pretty good! Just a bit too sweet for my taste.

These samosas are a game changer! So flaky and the apple filling is divine! 🍏🥳

Glad to hear they turned out so good for you! They’re a hit in our house too!

I followed the recipe but they burned in the oven. Maybe my oven temp is off? Sad! 🙁

  13. 3 stars
My triangles came out more like… squares? I’m terrible at folding. But they still tasted good, and the powdered sugar made it feel fancy.

  14. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

    5 stars
These samosas are the best! So easy to make and delicious! My family devoured them in no time!

  15. User avatar rufus.jerde88 says:

    2 stars
1/4 cup sugar + lemon juice is weirdly exact to me… like why no vanilla? Still, they tasted alright and the triangle folding was kinda fun.

  16. 2 stars
I messed up the folding and they looked like wonky triangles, lol. Flavor was still good, but presentation wasn’t great.

  17. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, I accidentally forgot the lemon juice and the filling tasted flat. When I re-made it with lemon, it was way brighter. Also 8 sheets feels like too many/too little depending on how big your rectangles are.

    1. User avatar leopoldo.klocko97 says:

      5 stars
Oof, that makes total sense—lemon juice is such a little “secret” to keep apple filling from tasting dull. I’m glad your remake worked! I also find filo sheet size really changes the math; if your rectangles are bigger, 8 sheets could be perfect, but if you cut small you’ll end up with extra. Next time I’ll adjust based on how many triangles I can get.

  18. User avatar emory.carroll61 says:

    4 stars
My triangles were kinda messy (I think I folded too slowly), but the flavor was still great. Next time I’ll cut the rectangles a bit more evenly—burned a corner on one.

  19. User avatar sarina.schneider66 says:

    4 stars
I’m not sure if these are real samosas, but they taste awesome! More apple, please!

  20. User avatar irmgard.bernhard3 says:

    2 stars
This is just a fancy apple pie. Samosas should be savory. Disappointed.

  21. User avatar lynnette.russel93 says:

    4 stars
This recipe is simple, but you have to be quick with the pastry! I forgot and it dried out. Oops!

  22. 3 stars
I found the filling a bit wet after sitting. Maybe I should cook the apples down first? The flavor is good, though, just not the texture I wanted.

  23. User avatar cletus.runolfsson says:

    5 stars
These turned out way better than I expected—crispy outside, sweet cinnamon apple inside. I used a little extra lemon and it really brightened the flavor. Will make again!

  24. User avatar racquel.kassulke5 says:

    5 stars
Honestly, these are a fun twist on apple pie. My family ate them immediately, like no chill. The powdered sugar dusting is the perfect finish.

  25. User avatar lucrecia.legros17 says:

    2 stars
Meh. Just okay. Took too long to make for few samosas. I’ll stick with store-bought 🙁

  26. User avatar winfred.tromp83 says:

    3 stars
How can it be samosas if they’re not fried? Feels like cheating. But they do look nice.

    1. User avatar carla.kreiger says:

      4 stars
I can see your point, but baking can be healthier! Plus, these look delicious. Can’t wait to try! 😊

  27. 2 stars
I tried this recipe but it turned out too soggy for me. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

    1. 3 stars
Soggy? That’s weird, mine turned out perfect! Are you sure you followed the butter step? It’s crucial! 🧐

    2. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

      4 stars
I don’t think it’s your fault! Filo pastry can be tricky sometimes. Maybe try less filling next time? 🤷‍♀️

  28. User avatar coy.ferry77 says:

    5 stars
5 stars! Perfect for my potluck, everyone loved them. I added some raisins for extra flavor!

  29. User avatar laureen.gibson50 says:

    4 stars
Not bad! The lemon juice really helps balance the sweetness. I used less sugar than the recipe because apples were already pretty sweet, and it was great.

  30. User avatar Oleta Corwin PhD says:

    4 stars
Yummy! But too sweet for my taste. Next time I might skip half the sugar. Still delicious tho!

    1. 4 stars
I totally get that! I prefer less sugar too. Have you thought about using honey or something? Might give it a nice flavor!

    2. User avatar shirleen.connelly says:

      3 stars
Nah, too sweet is too sweet. Skip the sugar next time. Apples have enough natural sweetness already, right?

  31. User avatar donnie.schoen91 says:

    3 stars
Just ok. Thought it tasted kinda bland. Maybe need more sugar? 😕

  32. User avatar Miles Teg says:

    3 stars
Are these meant to be served warm? Mine got cold and were not as good. X(

  33. User avatar joe_banana says:

    3 stars
The filling tasted great, but mine leaked a bit. I think I didn’t seal the edges firmly when folding.

    1. 3 stars
Mine leaked too once… I think my oven runs hot? I also didn’t brush enough butter between the layers of filo, so it got a little weird. Still tasty though 😅

    2. User avatar Deku Royalty says:

      5 stars
Glad the filling was great! Leaks usually mean the seal wasn’t tight enough—when you fold, try pressing the edges firmly and keep the triangle seam on the bottom. Also make sure you don’t overfill.

  34. User avatar walter.shields says:

    3 stars
I don’t get why you’d use lemons in sweet stuff. But they look cute! Might try without lemon.

    1. User avatar Leanora Murphy says:

      4 stars
Lemons add a nice tang to sweet dishes! You should give it a try, it’s worth it!

  35. User avatar terrence.reichel21 says:

    4 stars
Honestly I’m bad at folding triangles but even mine came out decent. Sweet, cozy, and not too hard once you get the hang of it.

  36. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    5 stars
So good! Made a batch for holiday snacks. They disappeared fast! 10/10.

  37. User avatar annett.jaskolski84 says:

    5 stars
Totally amazing and such a crowd-pleaser! Perfect for tea time with friends.

  38. 3 stars
I had issues with the filo pastry… It kept tearing whenever I tried to fold it. Not sure if I did something wrong.

  39. User avatar Grìma Wormtongue says:

    4 stars
Not bad! My triangles kinda looked more like wonky parcels, but they still tasted great. Next time I’ll dice the apples smaller so the filling cooks more evenly.

  40. User avatar kimi.mitchell1985 says:

    2 stars
Hmm, not so sure about this recipe. The filo pastry is too tricky to handle and my filling leaked out.

  41. User avatar refugio.muller67 says:

    5 stars
Sooo good! Even my picky kid loved them! Thank you for sharing this recipe! 🙂

    1. 2 stars
Really? My kids wouldn’t touch those. Not sure if they’re good or just luck for you!

    2. User avatar jerry.mills14 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! It’s always great when kids enjoy something healthy like apples. Thanks for trying the recipe! 😊

  42. User avatar astrid.batz says:

    3 stars
I don’t really get why you do two sheets, it made it kind of thick. Flavor was good but texture was more pastry-crunchy than flaky.

    1. User avatar Pumaag Nitae says:

      4 stars
I hear you—stacking two filo sheets does make them thicker. I usually do two only if I want them a bit sturdier, but for flakier texture I think one sheet + more careful butter brushing might work better.

    2. User avatar Fenchurch says:

      5 stars
Two sheets is probably why it came out more like pastry-crunchy than flaky. Maybe try just 1 sheet next time and fold/crease tighter so the filling cooks without needing extra thickness.

  43. User avatar aleida.steuber31 says:

    4 stars
Easy enough, but my filo dried out fast—next time I’ll work with fewer sheets at a time and keep the rest covered.

  44. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    3 stars
Too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll cut down on the sugar.

    1. User avatar clifton.hane55 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! I find it hard to balance sweetness too. Maybe try a bit of honey next time?

  45. User avatar gerry.kautzer says:

    2 stars
I dunno, it’s just apples. Maybe should’ve added nuts or raisins or something? 🤷‍♂️

  46. User avatar Ivan Abshire PhD says:

    5 stars
Delicious!!! 🍏🍏 I couldn’t stop eating them! Perfect for a dessert.

  47. 4 stars
Yummy! I added a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor. Will make again for sure!

    1. User avatar yuonne.white1994 says:

      5 stars
Nutmeg sounds like a great addition! I’ll have to try that next time. Glad you liked it!

  48. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    5 stars
These samosas are the best! The apple and cinnamon combination is just heavenly! 😊

  49. User avatar reuben.welch21 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe, but my samosas didn’t turn out crispy, they were soggy. What did I do wrong? 🤔

  50. 3 stars
I followed it exactly and mine stayed a bit soft after baking—maybe my oven runs cooler? Also the butter brushing helps a lot, so don’t be shy.

  51. User avatar victorina.trantow says:

    2 stars
I don’t have filo pastry, can I use puff pastry instead? Just curious if it’ll work.

    1. User avatar denny.kuphal3 says:

      5 stars
You know, I think puff pastry could work! It’ll be a bit different but still yummy. Just give it a try!

  52. User avatar elina.west2023 says:

    2 stars
Two words: too sweet. 😅 I’d cut the sugar next time. Still crispy tho.

  53. User avatar erick.kuvalis69 says:

    5 stars
Perfect dessert! Adding some vanilla ice cream next time will be heavenly! 🍦

  54. User avatar glory.sawayn40 says:

    4 stars
375°F is fine but my oven runs hot—golden brown at 12 minutes for me. Otherwise perfect.

  55. User avatar lachelle.adams62 says:

    2 stars
So, did anyone else have trouble with the filo pastry? Mine kept tearing and was a mess. 😩

  56. User avatar Blue Dartwing says:

    5 stars
I made these for my kids and they devoured them. The lemon juice made the apple filling pop—like bright and sweet. Definitely a keeper recipe!

  57. User avatar Siona Atreides says:

    5 stars
Loved the apple-cinnamon filling—smelled incredible. I was worried about filo drying out but it worked fine once I kept the sheets covered while assembling.

  58. User avatar sigrid.ratke says:

    2 stars
Wait—are you sure about the oven temp? 375F for 15 min didn’t get mine golden. I ended up baking longer and they finally browned.

  59. User avatar corine.gottlieb says:

    5 stars
These came out super crispy and the apple-cinnamon filling tasted like fall in a handheld form. I did exactly 15 minutes and they were golden—perfect.

    1. User avatar nigel.oconnell0 says:

      5 stars
Wow, this is exactly the kind of handheld fall treat I love. I’ve made apple desserts before, but the filo + quick bake combo usually turns out soggy for me—so “golden in 15 minutes” is super encouraging. Going to try it as written!

  60. 3 stars
Not really a fan of apples in savory dishes. Could’ve been better, just my opinion.

    1. 4 stars
I get what you’re saying, but I think apples can add a nice twist to savory dishes! Everyone has different tastes though.
