Recall of Over 24,000 Pounds of Sausage

July 18, 2025

On July 17, 2025, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a recall for 24,173 pounds of Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage. The recall was prompted after three consumers reported finding white plastic pieces in the ready-to-eat product. Kayem Foods Inc., based in Chelsea, Massachusetts, initiated the recall.

The affected sausage was produced on June 28 and distributed to retailers across the country.

How to Tell If You Have the Recalled Sausage

Check your packaging carefully. The recalled product is:

  • 11-ounce vacuum-sealed packs containing four sausages labeled “All Natural Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple with Vermont Made Syrup”
  • Marked with lot code “179”
  • Shows a “Use/Freeze By” date of OCT 01 2025 printed on the back
  • Displays Establishment number “P-7839” inside the USDA inspection mark on the front bottom right corner

Images of the label are available on the FSIS website for reference.

What You Should Do

If you have this product in your fridge or freezer, do not eat it. Either throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.

So far, no injuries have been reported, but if you believe you’ve consumed any of the recalled sausage and feel unwell, it’s best to consult a healthcare provider.
