Waffles and Blueberry Sauce

August 22, 2024

There’s something undeniably comforting about a plate of freshly made waffles topped with warm blueberry sauce. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, waffles are a breakfast staple that feel a little more special with every golden bite. Pair them with a sweet, slightly tangy blueberry sauce and you’ve got a classic combo that’s hard to beat.

Waffles are all about texture. Their airy centers and crisp edges provide the perfect canvas for a variety of toppings, but there’s something especially magical about pairing them with fruit. Blueberries bring brightness and color, along with natural sweetness that complements the buttery richness of the waffle. When gently cooked down into a sauce, they become soft and juicy, releasing their deep purple hue and signature flavor.

Blueberry sauce is a simple and wholesome topping that can be made with fresh or frozen berries. A little lemon juice brings out the tartness, while a touch of sugar balances it all out. Whether thickened slightly for a glossy finish or left more syrupy to soak into each waffle pocket, it adds a homemade touch that elevates the entire dish.

This combination is perfect for lazy weekend mornings, holiday brunches, or even breakfast-for-dinner nights. It feels indulgent without being overly heavy, especially when topped with a dollop of yogurt or a sprinkle of powdered sugar. For extra flair, try adding a few fresh berries or a sprig of mint right before serving.

Waffles with blueberry sauce are more than just a meal, they’re a small celebration. Easy enough for everyday, but special enough for guests, this duo brings joy to the table in the most delicious way. Whether you’re cooking for family, friends, or just yourself, this timeless breakfast will always be a hit.

My batter seemed a little thick after mixing, so I loosened it with a splash more milk. The flavor was good, but my waffles weren’t as crisp as I wanted—could be my iron temp.

I followed the recipe but my waffles didn’t crisp up. What did I do wrong?

Waffles?? More like flaffles! Mine fell apart. Disappointed.

Best breakfast ever!!! I will never go back to store bought waffles.

  6. 4 stars
Why use cornstarch when you can just mash the blueberries? Seems like an extra step.

  7. 3 stars
Can I use frozen blueberries? That’s all I got. Will it change much?

    1. 5 stars
Yes, you can use frozen blueberries! They might be a bit mushier, but they should work fine. Just make sure to thaw and drain them a bit if they’re super juicy.

  8. 2 stars
5 minutes for the blueberries felt short to me. I cooked longer until it was more jammy. Flavor was great but the texture took some trial.

Ummm… what’s cornstarch? Never heard of it.

Not sure about the egg whites part. I just mixed everything together and they still turned out fine. Don’t think it’s necessary.

    2. User avatar raymond.brown says:

Not a chef? You made a whole recipe! That’s impressive! Waffles are easy, but they can be tricky sometimes. Nice job!

Where’s the whipped cream? You need it for waffles!

    1. User avatar seymour.herman1956 says:

      5 stars
Whipped cream is def a must for waffles! You should add it to the recipe! 🍦

  15. 5 stars
These waffles are amazing! So fluffy and the blueberry sauce is to die for. Will definitely make again!

  16. 2 stars
Just okay. I expected better honestly. Never really been a waffle person.

This recipe is too complicated. I like my breakfast simple, like just toast. Just sayin’.

I get that, not everyone loves a fancy breakfast. But waffles are worth it! You could always prep things the night before to make it easier. Just a thought!

  18. 5 stars
Just made these for brunch, and everyone loved them! The blueberry sauce was a hit, but I added a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor. Yum!

  19. 3 stars
Tasted good but I thought they were too fluffy. Not what I expected.

  20. 3 stars
Waffles? Not a fan. But my kids loved it. I guess that’s what counts? Still, I’m more of a pancake person.

  21. User avatar Harris Hegmann says:

The sauce was too runny even with the cornstarch. What did I do wrong? So disappointed.

    1. User avatar jeannette.vandervort22 says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! Maybe you didn’t cook the sauce long enough after adding the cornstarch? Sometimes, it needs more time to thicken up properly. Don’t give up, it can happen!

  22. 2 stars
I tried this recipe, and my waffles came out soggy. I think I might’ve added too much milk. Bummer.

  23. 2 stars
1/2 cup vegetable oil seems like a lot… mine were a little greasy. Flavor is good, just feel like it needs testing.

  24. User avatar jose.ryan75 says:

    4 stars
This was easy to make! I substituted whole wheat flour though. Still turned out great!

  25. 5 stars
Made these for brunch and they came out super fluffy! The egg whites really make a difference. Blueberry sauce was bright and not too sweet.

  26. User avatar Augustine Murphy III says:

OK, but honestly, I think pancakes are better. Waffles are just too much work for breakfast.

    1. 5 stars
I get it! Pancakes are super easy and delicious. But these waffles are worth the effort! Trust me, the blueberries make it amazing!

    2. 3 stars
Too much work? It’s just mix and pour! Pancakes ain’t got nothing on waffles, man. Give it a try.

  27. User avatar maxwell.brakus66 says:

    4 stars
Not bad! I added a pinch of cinnamon because I can’t help myself. Sauce thickened nicely with the cornstarch slurry. Would do again.

    1. User avatar russel.volkman says:

      4 stars
I tried this once and my sauce turned kinda gloopy—maybe I didn’t cook long enough after adding the cornstarch. How long did you simmer it once it started thickening?

    2. User avatar glynda.macgyver says:

      5 stars
Love that! A pinch of cinnamon sounds like it would make the blueberry flavor pop. Glad the cornstarch slurry worked out for you.

  28. User avatar arnulfo.mraz1950 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and delicious! Will make again for sure!

  29. User avatar gonzalo.wolf1961 says:

These waffles are soooo good! Perfect for brunch with the family.

  30. User avatar fausto.stamm28 says:

    4 stars
Yum! But I think using frozen blueberries could work too, right?

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely! Frozen blueberries can work great too! Just maybe add a bit more sugar if they’re not as sweet. 😊

  31. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
Waffle iron is too complicated for me. I just ended up burning them. 😩

  32. 3 stars
The steps are clear, but separating eggs is always annoying. Also, 2 cups blueberries feels like a lot for only 1/4 cup sugar—might be tart unless your berries are sweet.

  33. 2 stars
Eh, the blueberry sauce was kinda runny. Maybe I did it wrong, but I won’t make it again.

  34. User avatar karen.jakubowski6 says:

Waffles = life. These are bomb, you won’t regret trying them!

  35. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

The instructions are clear and the fold-in method actually makes a difference. Mine were golden but not super crisp—maybe my waffle iron runs hot/too short time?

  36. User avatar pasquale.ryan says:

Made these for breakfast this morning and they disappeared fast! So good!

    1. User avatar jayson.russel95 says:

Yum! Waffles with blueberry sauce sounds amazing! I’ll definitely give it a try. 🥞💙

    2. User avatar peggie.schowalter35 says:

I don’t know. Seems like a lot of work for breakfast. Can’t I just use store-bought waffles?

  37. 5 stars
Super easy and quick! I love how fluffy they are! Next time I’ll try them with chocolate chips.

  38. 5 stars
Just made these for breakfast and it was like a warm hug! The blueberry sauce is a game changer. Yum!

  39. 3 stars
I think 2 tbsp water for the cornstarch might be a little too thin—mine was lumpy at first. Whisked longer and it fixed. Sauce thickened nicely after that.

  40. 2 stars
Can you use frozen blueberries? Asking for a friend.
