Valentine’s Day Kir Royale

January 29, 2024

The Kir Royale is a sophisticated cocktail that combines the sparkle of champagne with the rich, fruity sweetness of blackcurrant liqueur. Light, refreshing, and beautifully simple, it’s an ideal drink for special occasions, whether you’re celebrating a milestone or just enjoying a little indulgence.

The origins of the Kir Royale date back to France, where it was first created as an elegant variation of the classic Kir cocktail, which traditionally uses white wine and crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur). By swapping in champagne or sparkling wine, the Kir Royale adds a touch of festivity, making it the perfect choice for toasting. It’s often seen at weddings, brunches, and New Year’s Eve celebrations, but there’s no need to wait for a special occasion to enjoy one, its crisp, fruity profile makes it ideal for any moment that calls for a little sparkle.

Making a Kir Royale is incredibly easy. Start by filling a champagne flute about three-quarters full with chilled champagne or sparkling wine. A dry or brut sparkling wine works best, as the blackcurrant liqueur already brings sweetness to the drink. Then, add just a splash of crème de cassis, the blackcurrant liqueur, and stir gently. You want the liqueur to infuse the champagne without overpowering the delicate bubbles.

For a garnish, you can drop in a fresh raspberry, blackberry, or even a twist of lemon peel for an extra touch of color and elegance. The resulting drink is a beautiful blend of effervescent champagne with the deep, fruity flavor of blackcurrant, creating a light yet complex taste that’s perfect for sipping.

The Kir Royale is all about enjoying the moment, light, refreshing, and a little bit fancy. Whether you’re celebrating with friends or simply treating yourself, it’s a cocktail that’s guaranteed to add a touch of glamour to any occasion.

A romantic and elegant cocktail perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Meh, didn’t really taste like anything special. Just sparkling wine with some syrup… not impressed.

So simple but fancy—this is definitely going on my Valentine’s list. The cassis + bubbles combo is perfect, and the raspberries make it look restaurant-level.

Isn’t crème de cassis like a fancy jam? What even is it? I might just use grape juice instead!

Not a big fan of champagne, but the raspberries made it tasty. Might try again.

Champagne ain’t for everyone. But you should try using other fruits too, like strawberries, if you don’t like bubbly!

Okay but is it supposed to be pink? Mine came out super dark like… grape juice. Still drank it lol.

Mine looked pretty pink too—if yours went super dark, it might’ve been a stronger crème de cassis (or you used a heavier pour). Still, that stuff is basically grape juice anyway 😅 Glad you drank it!

I get what you mean, it kinda seems underwhelming for such a fancy name! Maybe just stick to rosé? 🍷

I don’t really get why people love bubbly drinks. This was okay, but not my thing.
