Traditional Christmas Cheese Ball

December 20, 2024

The traditional Christmas cheese ball is a classic holiday appetizer that never fails to impress. With its creamy, savory filling and festive appearance, it’s a great addition to any holiday spread. This crowd-pleasing treat combines rich cream cheese with a variety of flavorful ingredients, resulting in a smooth, tangy base that’s perfect for spreading on crackers, bread, or vegetables.

The beauty of a Christmas cheese ball lies in its versatility. The base of the cheese ball typically starts with cream cheese, softened to ensure it mixes well. Shredded cheddar cheese adds sharpness, while other cheeses like Monterey Jack, Swiss, or even blue cheese can be incorporated for added complexity and depth. To enhance the flavor, ingredients such as finely chopped onions, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce are often mixed in, giving the cheese ball a savory kick.

To make the cheese ball even more festive, it’s often rolled in chopped nuts, such as pecans, walnuts, or almonds, which provide a crunchy contrast to the smooth and creamy filling. Chopped fresh herbs like parsley, chives, or dill can also be added for extra color and flavor. Some variations of the recipe include a hint of sweetness with ingredients like dried cranberries, chopped dates, or a drizzle of honey, making the cheese ball a beautiful balance of sweet and savory.

Once assembled, the cheese ball is refrigerated for a few hours or overnight, allowing the flavors to meld and the texture to firm up. This step is essential for ensuring that the cheese ball holds its shape and is easy to slice or scoop. It’s then ready to be served, often alongside an array of crackers, vegetable sticks, or even sliced baguette.

The traditional Christmas cheese ball is not only delicious but also adds a festive touch to any gathering. It’s easy to make ahead of time, freeing up your schedule on the big day. Whether you’re hosting a holiday party or bringing a dish to share, this cheese ball will surely be a hit at your table.

I tried this and it came out super salty! What did I do wrong?

  7. User avatar liberal.hero says:

Uh, I didn’t have Worcestershire sauce, used soy sauce instead. It was alright.

This cheese ball was a hit at my Christmas party! Everyone loved it. Thanks for sharing!

  9. 3 stars
Why do they call it a cheese ball? It’s more like a cheese blob. 😂

  10. User avatar frank.oreilly2007 says:

    4 stars
So easy to make! I added some jalapeños for a kick. Gonna be my go-to recipe!

    1. 5 stars
Sounds awesome! I love spicy food. Jalapeños are a great idea!

  11. User avatar Ka'o Makagh says:

    5 stars
Made this for my family and they devoured it. So simple and yummy.

  12. 3 stars
It was okay. The pecans didn’t really go with the cheese for my taste. Maybe walnuts next time?

  13. User avatar monty.bergstrom1 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have pecans, so I used walnuts and it turned out great!

  14. User avatar darin.torphy25 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine came out a bit too salty for my taste. Worcestershire can be strong. Might cut it down a little next time or use less cheddar maybe.

  15. User avatar miguel.koss says:

    3 stars
Cheese balls? I thought those were for dogs! 😂 But this recipe looks good.

  16. 4 stars
This is good, but the garlic/onion powder feel a bit strong together. I might cut them in half next time so the cheddar flavor shines more.

  17. User avatar shon.cremin2018 says:

    5 stars
Cheddar cheese is my fav!! Yum!

  18. User avatar betty.hansen1976 says:

    2 stars
Kinda bland compared to other recipes I’ve tried. Disappointed.

  19. User avatar Ms. Adah Koelpin says:

    5 stars
I can’t believe how easy this is! Why didn’t I think of making a cheese ball before?

    1. User avatar Sandy Padberg says:

      5 stars
I know, right? It’s so simple yet so impressive! Perfect for parties!

  20. 4 stars
Looks fancy for almost no effort. Also—pro tip: form the ball quickly before it warms up. Mine got soft on the counter for like 10 minutes.

  21. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    5 stars
That Worcestershire sauce is key! Made it, got compliments. Will make again!

  22. 3 stars
Mine didn’t really hold together like I expected. I think my cream cheese wasn’t soft enough. After I let it sit longer, it worked better, but the first try was a crumbly mess.

  23. User avatar jake.paucek1988 says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added some dill and it was amazinggg. Definitely making again!

    1. User avatar clarinda.marvin says:

      2 stars
Really? Dill? I don’t think that would taste good with cheese. Sounds kinda weird to me.

    2. User avatar kent.deckow15 says:

      5 stars
Dill sounds like a great addition! I might try that next time. Thanks for the tip!

  24. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    5 stars
Wow! This is so simple yet so fancy! I added some dried cranberries too. 💖

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      5 stars
I love that you added cranberries! It’s the perfect touch for the holidays. 🎄

  25. User avatar ossie.hermiston1953 says:

    4 stars
Easy to make but I did not have any Worcestershire sauce. I used soy sauce instead. Still turned out great!

  26. User avatar cockroach says:

    5 stars
This cheese ball was a hit at the party! Everyone loved it! 😋

  27. 3 stars
Mine fell apart when I tried to roll it in pecans. I probably didn’t soften the cream cheese enough or I rushed the chilling. Once I refrigerated properly, it got easier.

    1. User avatar mi.dickens11 says:

      5 stars
Ugh mine too! The pecans basically slid right off. I think I underestimated how soft the cream cheese needed to be—like, not melted, but truly spreadable. After I chilled longer (overnight), it held its shape way better.

    2. 3 stars
I’m not convinced it’s the chilling lol. Mine “fell apart” even though I let it sit. Maybe my cheddar was too dry/shredded fine? I just ended up pressing it into a container instead of rolling—still tasty though.

  28. 2 stars
I don’t know how is it traditional? Cheese ball is cheese ball, not much diff in flavor. Meh.

  29. 3 stars
Easy recipe, but I thought it was too salty. Maybe less Worcestershire next time?

  30. User avatar zoe.rosenbaum2000 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have pecans, so I used chopped walnuts. It still tasted great, just a little different. Super easy holiday appetizer.

    1. User avatar Spider Guardian says:

      5 stars
Totally! Walnuts make sense—glad it still tasted great. The coating really changes the vibe, but cheese balls are forgiving 😄

  31. User avatar tona.torp26 says:

    3 stars
Can I substitute the pecans with peanuts? I got allergies. 😐

  32. 4 stars
Cheap and easy appetizer. Pecans are the best part. I used dried parsley because I forgot fresh and it worked fine.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—pecans make it! 😄 Good catch on the dried parsley too; I bet that still brings enough herb flavor. I’m trying this with what I’ve got next time.

  33. User avatar edythe.dooley2024 says:

    5 stars
I made this for a party and people kept coming back for more. The texture firmed up nicely and the cheddar flavor really came through. Easy recipe, no drama.

  34. User avatar Douglas S. Halfempty says:

    1 star
    I can’t make this. I’m allergic to nuts 😭

  35. User avatar susann.gerhold95 says:

    5 stars
Perfect for holiday gatherings. Simple and classy. Everyone should try!!

  36. User avatar bertie.kreiger says:

    5 stars
SO YUM! I sat down and ate half of it before my guests arrived. 😂

    1. 5 stars
Haha, that’s the spirit! Sometimes the best part is enjoying it before the company arrives. 😂

    2. User avatar joe_banana says:

      2 stars
I dunno, cheese balls seem a bit weird to me. I mean, who eats cheese like that? 🤔

  37. 2 stars
I followed the recipe but my cheese ball turned out too soft. What did I do wrong? 🤔

  38. User avatar yer.leffler says:

    3 stars
This is basically a cheese spread, right? Also what’s parsley for?

  39. 4 stars
I skipped the parsley and added some chili flakes instead. Wow! Spicy!

    1. User avatar Troy Emard says:

      5 stars
That sounds like a great twist! I love some heat in my recipes!

  40. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, it looks a bit weird to me. Cheese in a ball? Seems off.

    1. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

      4 stars
I can see where you’re coming from, but cheese balls are actually a classic! They taste way better than they look. You should try it! 🙂

  41. User avatar particia.zieme says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the onion/garlic powder amount. It tasted a little muted to me—maybe my cheddar wasn’t as flavorful. I added a pinch more garlic powder and it improved a lot.

  42. User avatar darline.bergstrom says:

    4 stars
Delicious! But I added some jalapeños for a kick. Super tasty!

  43. User avatar xenia.breitenberg45 says:

    3 stars
Good, but Pecans in it? I ain’t a fan. Can I use almonds instead?

  44. User avatar ralph.ward says:

    5 stars
    🤤 Yummm!

    1. User avatar mathew.powlowski says:

      2 stars
      Cheese ball? I don’t know… isn’t that a bit too… creamy? 🤔

    2. User avatar Shaddam Corrino IV says:

      5 stars
This looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it for our family gathering. 🧀

  45. 5 stars
This cheese ball was a hit at our Christmas party! Everyone loved it!

  46. 4 stars
Delish! But I think I added too much garlic powder. Next time I’ll be more careful.

    1. User avatar wade.pollich57 says:

      5 stars
Garlic powder can be strong! Just a pinch next time should do it. Glad you liked it otherwise! 😊

  47. User avatar Dremora Lord says:

    5 stars
Made this for my family last year—so good. The garlic/onion with the Worcestershire is such a nice punch, and the pecan coating makes it feel fancy.

  48. User avatar maybelle.maggio says:

    5 stars
This cheese ball is a hit at my holiday parties! Everyone loves it!

  49. User avatar Mistral says:

    5 stars
YUM! My kids devoured it! A perfect mix of crunch and creaminess. Will make it again!

  50. User avatar Arnbjorn says:

    5 stars
This cheese ball is amazing! It was the hit of our Christmas party. Everyone loved it!

  51. User avatar delilah.labadie says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people rave about cheese balls. This one was bland for me, maybe it’s just my taste.

    1. User avatar kiara.legros says:

      4 stars
I don’t know, but I love cheese balls! Maybe you should’ve added more seasoning or herbs? They can be really versatile! 😋

    2. User avatar goldie.buckridge58 says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! This cheese ball is a classic. It has that rich, creamy flavor that just hits the spot during the holidays. Maybe you just didn’t let it chill long enough?

  52. User avatar clara.terry2001 says:

    3 stars
Isn’t this just junk food? Cheese and nuts? I don’t know, seems kinda unhealthy, lol.

    1. User avatar veronique.morar says:

      5 stars
Junk food or not, it sure looks delicious! Cheese is life, so I’m not worried about a lil’ bit of fat. Just don’t eat the whole thing at once, lol.

    2. 4 stars
I see where you’re coming from, but it’s all about balance! A little cheese once in a while can be okay, especially during the holidays. Plus, nuts are good for you! 😊

  53. User avatar w00d_ch0p says:

    5 stars
So good. I brought it to family dinner and everyone asked for the recipe. 10/10 would re-cheese ball.

    1. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

      5 stars
Love this 😂 brought it to family dinner too—same thing happened. So good!

  54. 5 stars
    Love cheese ball!! 😍 🧀

    1. User avatar jude.braun92 says:

      5 stars
Me too! Cheese balls are the best appetizer at parties! 🎉

  55. User avatar chong.ziemann55 says:

    3 stars
I thought it was too much cream cheese. Can I use less and still have it taste good?

  56. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    3 stars
I tried it and it tasted kind of bland until I added extra Worcestershire. Not sure if my cheddar was weak or if I did something wrong. Either way, I’d tweak it.

    1. User avatar wayne.homenick says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—sharp cheddar + only 1 tbsp Worcestershire can be subtle. Glad you found the fix! Next time I’d also add a tiny pinch more garlic powder or a dash of hot sauce if you like a kick.

  57. User avatar diego.okuneva16 says:

    5 stars
This was such a hit at our family gathering! Everyone loved it. Thank you!

    1. User avatar don.kilback2007 says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear it was a hit! We always make this for Christmas and it disappears fast. 🎉

  58. User avatar joe_banana says:

    3 stars
Mine didn’t really “stick” with the pecans like I expected. I think I under-chilled it or my cream cheese wasn’t soft enough. Still flavorful though!

  59. User avatar kimberlee.fadel2005 says:

    1 star
I made this but used cottage cheese because I was out of cream cheese. It came out weird, thought I’d give it a go. 😬

    1. User avatar ginger.braun78 says:

      4 stars
Cottage cheese? That’s an interesting swap! It might not have the same texture, but at least you tried! I respect that. 👍

  60. User avatar alden.thompson82 says:

    4 stars
Wait… is the cheddar measured as 2 cups shredded or packed? I used a bit less because it looked like a lot, and my ball wasn’t as firm. Still good, just not perfect.

  61. User avatar lorie.stiedemann1 says:

    1 star
My aunt makes a better version. This one just didn’t cut it for me.

    1. User avatar leeann.stehr says:

      3 stars
Not sure what you expected, but this is a classic! Cheese is cheese, right? 😅

    2. 4 stars
That’s okay! Everyone has their favorite version. Maybe your aunt’s has a secret ingredient? 🤔

  62. 3 stars
My kids didn’t like it at all. They said it tastes weird. I guess it’s not for everyone.

  63. User avatar vinnie.moen15 says:

    3 stars
Meh. Tasted like regular cheddar with nuts. My guests liked it more than me though.

  64. User avatar Seth Ledner says:

    5 stars
Easy peasy! Just mix and chill. Glad I found this recipe. 😊

  65. User avatar bradford.berge2020 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps exactly and it came out creamy and tangy—super tasty. The parsley is such a nice touch for color too.

    1. User avatar darryl.olson says:

      5 stars
I’ve made this a couple times and I swear that parsley really does make it look holiday-fancy. Glad you stuck with the steps too!

  66. User avatar oralia.collier11 says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! This cheese ball was the hit of our Christmas party! Everyone loved it.

  67. User avatar deirdre.larson says:

    3 stars
Can I use any kind of cheese? My local store is out of cheddar!!! Help plz!

  68. User avatar vinita.kuhlman says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think 2 cups cheddar is too much for 8 oz cream cheese. Mine kept cracking when I tried to coat it.

  69. User avatar Werebear says:

    3 stars
Tastes great but too much work for me. I just want a simple dip.

    1. User avatar Morgan Kihn says:

      3 stars
Simple? But cheese ball is yummy, just let it sit in fridge for a while. Not that hard!

    2. User avatar cristi.west says:

      4 stars
I get it! It can be a lot of steps. Maybe try just mixing the cheeses and serve with crackers?

  70. 5 stars
Super easy and tastes like it came from a fancy deli. I swapped the pecans for walnuts (ran out) and it still worked great.

  71. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    4 stars
Kinda reminds me of that cheese spread we used to get at family gatherings. Nostalgia at its finest!

  72. User avatar Alina Dietrich IV says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe but mine seemed a little dry when I went to roll it. Maybe I needed more Worcestershire? Still tasty though.

    1. User avatar kiersten.gibson26 says:

      3 stars
Maybe. Worcestershire is strong so too much could mess with the taste. Also did you refrigerate it the full hour? Mine gets firmer and kinda cracks if I try to roll it right after mixing—needs more chill time. Still tasty tho, so you’re good 😅

    2. User avatar jeffery.runte53 says:

      4 stars
That sounds frustrating! I’ve found if the cream cheese isn’t really soft (or you don’t mix long enough), it can end up drier and harder to roll. I usually start by letting it sit out 30-45 min. I wouldn’t add tons of Worcestershire though—maybe 1/2 tsp at a time if anything.

  73. User avatar cherilyn.mante95 says:

    3 stars
I accidentally used 2 tbsp Worcestershire instead of 1, so it was a bit strong. Still good with crackers, but next time I’ll follow the measurements!

    1. 4 stars
Honestly, strong Worcestershire can be a vibe 😂 Next time just do 1 tbsp like the recipe says—unless you want it “extra savory.”

    2. User avatar latoyia.mcglynn2010 says:

      4 stars
Oh no—2 tbsp would definitely kick it up. But I love that you tried it with crackers anyway. I’m glad it still worked!

  74. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    2 stars
It’s just a ball of cheese… really? How is this special?

  75. User avatar Miss Brenton Quitzon says:

    1 star
Not for me. Too cheesy! And honestly, it was a little salty. I won’t make it again.

  76. User avatar davina.medhurst74 says:

    1 star
I followed it step by step and it was not crunchy, what’s wrong?

  77. 5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about rolling it in pecans + parsley… but wow. The texture contrast is real. Great recipe for gatherings.

  78. 4 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but mine was a little too crumbly. Next time I’ll use cream cheese that’s softer—like actually room temp, not just “kinda soft.”

  79. User avatar cary.reynolds47 says:

    4 stars
Looks Christmassy in a good way, but I’m not sure about the amount of seasonings. Next time I might cut the garlic powder in half—just personal preference.

  80. User avatar grant.friesen1961 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps exactly—softened cream cheese, mixed, rolled in pecans/parsley, refrigerated. Taste is good, but I wish the flavor was a little stronger. Maybe add a pinch more garlic next time.

  81. 2 stars
meh. I expected more “wow.” It’s alright but kind of basic compared to the cream-cheese spreads I usually make. Might be the pecans—next time I’ll try walnuts.

  82. 5 stars
The flavor is weirdly addicting. Like, tangy and savory at the same time. My kids kept sneaking bites lol.

  83. 4 stars
The amount of cheddar is kinda perfect. But why is there only 1 tbsp Worcestershire? I feel like it needs more of that tang. I added extra and it was way better for my taste.

  84. 5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about rolling it in pecans and parsley, but it looks *so* festive. The texture is great. Would definitely make again.

    1. User avatar Leto II Atreides says:

      5 stars
Same here—I didn’t think pecans + herbs would work, but the festive look is half the fun. Glad the texture turned out!

  85. User avatar leigh.nienow2000 says:

    4 stars
Simple and super tasty. I used pre-shredded cheddar (I know, lazy) but it still worked. Next time I’ll probably add a tiny bit more parsley just because.

    1. User avatar vonnie.gusikowski says:

      4 stars
Pre-shredded works?! I always figured it wouldn’t melt right because it’s coated. But if you say it still tasted great I’m willing to try. Did you refrigerate long enough for it to really firm?

    2. User avatar kennith.emard18 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this is dangerously good. I used regular cheddar and it still came together fast. Next time I’ll try adding that extra parsley too. 🌿

  86. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
This is my kind of recipe—minimal effort, maximum flavor. Also, no cooking, so I didn’t mess it up. lol

  87. User avatar keven.walker87 says:

    5 stars
Made this for our Christmas party and it was gone fast. The garlic/onion flavor really comes through and the pecans add a nice crunch. I let it chill overnight and it was perfect.

    1. User avatar w00d_ch0p says:

      5 stars
Love hearing this! Chilling overnight makes such a difference with how it holds its shape. Glad the garlic/onion and pecans hit the spot at your party 🎄

    2. 3 stars
I tried it but mine was a little too “garlicky” even with only 1/4 tsp garlic powder 😅 Next time I’ll probably cut that back or use sweet onion instead. Still tasted good though!

  88. User avatar jeremy.abernathy41 says:

    1 star
Too many ingredients for me, and I don’t even know what Worcestershire is! 😂

    1. 4 stars
I get it! Worcestershire sauce is a bit strange, but it adds a nice kick! ❤️

  89. User avatar drew.murphy43 says:

    5 stars
The garlic and onion powders make it taste more “restaurant-y” than I expected. My guests asked for the recipe, which never happens.

    1. User avatar zane.kovacek43 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—those garlic/onion powders do a lot of heavy lifting. “Restaurant-y” is the perfect description. Love that your guests actually asked for the recipe! 😊

    2. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      3 stars
Huh, I tried something like this before but I used fresh garlic and it tasted weird to me? Maybe powders are just better. Also I add a little more Worcestershire, like 2 tbsp… not sure if that’s correct tho 😅

  90. User avatar vaughn.boehm says:

    5 stars
Made this for our Christmas party and it was gone in minutes. The Worcestershire really adds that savory “something” that keeps people coming back. I chilled it overnight and it firmed up perfectly.

  91. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

Not bad but I won’t lie, the flavor reminded me of a “cheese spread” more than a real cheese ball. Also, 1 cup pecans feels random—more would’ve been better.

I totally get what you mean about the “cheese spread” vibe—cream cheese + cheddar can do that. But the pecans are for texture; I used to go heavy on toppings too, so I’m with you on wanting more.

This is such an easy holiday win. I did it the night before and served the next day. Creamy, salty, and the flavor is balanced.

Yes! This is exactly the kind of low-effort, high-reward holiday appetizer I need. I made it the night before too and it firmed up perfectly—salty and creamy is the dream combo.

I tried this but my mix was kinda crumbly even after chilling… I think I used pre-shredded cheddar (maybe drier). Also, is Worcestershire really just 1 tbsp? Mine felt really strong lol. Still tasted good though.

Okay but why is it called “traditional” when it’s basically just cream cheese + cheddar with seasonings lol. Still, it’s delicious and looks great on a platter.

Way too salty for me. Sharp cheddar plus Worcestershire is a lot. I’d cut back on Worcestershire next time or use a milder cheese.

I love cheese balls but I’m picky about texture—this one firms up well in the fridge. Rolling in pecans was oddly satisfying. Would definitely make again.

Made this for our Christmas party and it vanished fast. Super creamy and the Worcestershire + cheddar combo is spot on. I chilled it overnight and it firmed up perfectly!

I tried making it but it just didn’t turn out right. The cheese didn’t blend. 🤔

Did you maybe forget to mix it well enough? Sometimes it takes a bit of elbow grease! 😊

Made this for my family last weekend and it disappeared fast. The Worcestershire gives it that savory “something extra” vibe. I added a tiny pinch of cayenne and it was perfect.

I’m skeptical because “cheese ball” usually means bland mush… but this one actually tasted bold. Probably the Worcestershire and cheddar combo.

Pretty good, but I think 1 tbsp Worcestershire might be a bit much for some folks—mine tasted a tad strong. Next time I’ll start with 2 tsp and adjust. Still a win with crackers though.

    1. 4 stars
Interesting. I followed the 1 tbsp and mine was perfect… but my cheddar is pretty mild? So maybe your palate is more sensitive. Cracker delivery approved 😄

Totally agree—Worcestershire can be overpowering fast. I always start smaller too. Nice call on 2 tsp and adjusting!

Pretty solid cheese ball. I used pre-shredded cheddar and it was a little drier, so next time I’ll shred fresh. Still tasty and festive.

  102. 4 stars
Looks simple but I guess I don’t get the point? It’s just cheese and nuts lol. But I tried it and yeah… it’s good.

I feel you—at first it sounds like “just cheese” 😄 But the mix of cheddar + Worcestershire + the garlic/onion really makes it taste more “savory” than you’d expect. What did you serve it with?

  103. User avatar Snow Bear says:

The flavor was great, but it was way more crumbly than I expected. My cream cheese wasn’t soft enough, so I had to smoosh it a lot. Still ate it all 😂

  104. 5 stars
Five stars, but only if you let it chill overnight. An hour is fine, but overnight makes it feel more “professional.”

    1. User avatar brian.mcglynn96 says:

Totally agree—letting it chill overnight really does make it taste more “set” and less like a cheese spread. I did an hour once and it was softer than I wanted.

    2. User avatar Ilene Left says:

Hmm I don’t think overnight is necessary. I usually chill like 2 hours and it’s perfect. Also, I added more garlic powder (oops?) and it was still great though.

Meh. I’m not a fan of onion/garlic powders, and I could taste them more than the cheese. Maybe use fresh next time?

Couldn’t get the ball shape to hold. I chilled it for an hour, but it still wouldn’t firm up. Maybe my fridge is too warm? Idk.

    1. User avatar sparkle.gleichner says:

      4 stars
That sounds like the cream cheese might not be softened enough (or your fridge temp is off). I find it firms up faster if the cream cheese is mixed thoroughly but not warmed—then chill 2+ hours. Also, was your mixture super sticky? Adding a handful more pecans can help it hold.

    2. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

      2 stars
Mine never firmed either—ended up more like dip. I think the “softened” part ruined it lol. Next time I’ll use colder cream cheese and chill overnight. Idk why the recipe says just an hour.

The prep was simple but I struggled with rolling it in the pecans—mine kept sticking to my hands. Maybe I should chill it longer before coating?

    1. User avatar Miss Courtney Medhurst says:

      5 stars
Yes—chilling longer helps a ton. I usually do 2–4 hours (or even overnight) before rolling, and I also rinse/swap to cooler hands if it gets sticky.

    2. 4 stars
Mine stuck too at first. I chilled for only an hour and it was a mess. Next time I added a tiny sprinkle of extra chopped pecans to the outside bowl so there’s less contact with wet spots.

This is basically foolproof. I let it chill overnight and it was perfectly firm. Would recommend serving with crackers AND apples.

  109. 5 stars
This turned out so festive and delicious! The pecans add the perfect crunch and the Worcestershire gives it that savory “holiday” punch. I chilled it a little longer than an hour and it was spot on.

Worcestershire sauce AND garlic powder? That’s a lot going on in a cheese ball. I tried it anyway and it turned out okay, but I wouldn’t say it’s “traditional” like Grandma’s.

    1. 4 stars
I get what you mean—Worcestershire + garlic powder isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for a “traditional” cheese ball. Still, the Worcestershire adds that savory depth, so “okay” checks out. Maybe Grandma would’ve used something else like a little mustard or just extra onion.

    2. User avatar christine.shanahan says:

      3 stars
Wait… Grandma didn’t do Worcestershire?? Mine always had a little “special sauce” and everybody acted like it was normal, lol. Also 1/4 tsp garlic powder seems tiny to me, not “a lot.” If it tastes good, that’s the tradition to me 😅
