Pumpkin Spice Scones

October 21, 2024

Pumpkin Spice Scones are the perfect treat to enjoy during the fall season. With their warm spices, soft, crumbly texture, and hint of pumpkin flavor, these scones are an irresistible addition to your breakfast, brunch, or afternoon tea. They’re lightly sweetened, with a touch of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger that captures the essence of fall in every bite. Paired with a cup of hot coffee or tea, these scones are the ultimate way to enjoy the flavors of autumn.

The dough for pumpkin spice scones is rich and buttery, with just enough moisture from the pumpkin puree to give them a soft, tender crumb. The combination of pumpkin and spices makes for a warm, aromatic base that’s both comforting and delicious. The scones are easy to make, requiring only a few simple ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and pumpkin puree. After mixing the dough, it’s shaped into wedges and baked until golden brown.

A sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top before baking gives the scones a sweet, crisp finish, while a drizzle of glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla adds an extra touch of sweetness. The glaze melts into the scones, making each bite a little more indulgent. You can also top them with chopped pecans or chocolate chips for added texture and flavor, creating a more customized version of this classic fall treat.

Pumpkin Spice Scones are versatile and can be served at any time of day. They make for a great breakfast option, a delicious snack for afternoon tea, or a festive treat at a fall gathering. Their comforting flavor and warm, inviting aroma make them a favorite among friends and family, especially when paired with a hot beverage.

Whether you’re hosting a fall brunch, packing a lunchbox, or simply treating yourself to something special, Pumpkin Spice Scones are a must-try seasonal indulgence. These soft, flavorful scones bring the best of autumn together in one perfect bite.

These scones are amazing! The pumpkin flavor is just right and they are so fluffy. Will definitely make again!

  2. User avatar ela.padberg12 says:

These turned out super tender! I was worried about the pumpkin puree moisture, but the crumb stayed nice. Next time I’ll add a bit more spice (extra cinnamon) for a stronger fall vibe.

These came out super tender and not too sweet. The pumpkin pie spice smell while baking is unreal. I’d absolutely make again—maybe with a little extra vanilla.

    1. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

      5 stars
Yes! Totally agree on the smell—my kitchen smelled like fall heaven. I also add a tiny pinch more salt and it really makes the pumpkin spice pop. Great call on extra vanilla too 👍

Pumpkin pie spice? Yuck. I don’t get why people like pumpkin flavor in everything. But hey, my daughter loved em!

Chocolate chips? That sounds delish! I gotta try that next time!

Why do you have to put cream? Isn’t pumpkin enough? I skipped it and they still turned out okay.

    1. User avatar tandy.kutch1962 says:

      3 stars
But the cream is essential for the texture! If you skipped it, how were they even fluffy? 🤔

    2. 4 stars
I think the cream adds richness, but I’m glad your scones turned out good! Everyone has their own twist! 😊

  7. User avatar agustin.little34 says:

  8. 3 stars
Umm, how come there’s no eggs in this recipe? Seems weird.

    1. User avatar earnest.murray43 says:

      5 stars
Not every recipe needs eggs! Pumpkin puree helps bind the scones together. It’s a great choice for a moist texture! 👍

  9. 2 stars
I tried making these but they turned out way too dry. What did I do wrong?

  10. User avatar candida.carroll2002 says:

Not sure how these are supposed to taste but mine didn’t rise at all! Total flop!

    1. 4 stars
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe the baking powder was old? That can make a big difference. Keep trying!

  11. User avatar alfred.ernser49 says:

Yum! This is what autumn tastes like. So good with my coffee!

  12. 4 stars
Good, but I used sweet potatoes instead of pumpkin and it worked fine too. Who knew!? 🍠

  13. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
Just made these with my kids, and they loved them! Super easy too.

  14. User avatar Beth Kshlerin says:

Scones are hard to make right. Mine came out flat… is that normal? 👎

  15. 4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but they actually turned out good! Not too sweet.

  16. User avatar maple.gaylord70 says:

    5 stars
YUM!! Just baked these and they filled my house with the best smell! 😍

  17. 3 stars
So good! But I used whole wheat flour instead and they were a bit chewy.

  18. 3 stars
Not a fan of pumpkin spice, but my sister loved these! She’s gonna make them again.

Why would anyone want to eat pumpkin spice?? Seems weird to me, but to each their own I guess!

  19. User avatar patrick.simonis44 says:

    3 stars
Super easy to make, but mine burned on the bottom… maybe my oven is too hot? 🤔

  20. User avatar preston.maggio1982 says:

I followed it exactly and they spread a little—probably my butter wasn’t cold enough. Still flavorful, just not as tall as I wanted.

  21. User avatar marilyn.ruecker59 says:

    4 stars
I don’t even like pumpkin, but these were really nice. Not too sweet, just right.

  22. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I thought they would be way better. The pumpkin flavor was too weak for my taste. 2/5.

  23. User avatar Tom Bombadil says:

    4 stars
Tasty! But I think they needed more spice. Maybe I’ll add extra next time.

  24. User avatar hisako.kautzer says:

“Ad frosting if desired”?? 😂 I added maple glaze and it fixed everything. Would recommend if you like them sweeter.

  25. User avatar gwenda.wuckert4 says:

Scones are supposed to be crispy. These were too soft for my liking.

  26. User avatar bertram.hoppe75 says:

  27. User avatar melaine.rosenbaum2022 says:

I tried making these scones, but they came out all flat! What did I do wrong? I followed the recipe! Maybe I added too much cream?

  28. 2 stars
I followed the recipe but mine turned out too dry. Not sure what went wrong! 😭

  29. User avatar wilber.sawayn53 says:

Are scones supposed to be hard? Mine was like a rock. Gave it a 1.

    1. User avatar everett.kuhic says:

      4 stars
Scones should be light and fluffy! Sounds like something went wrong. Did you overmix the dough? I usually bake mine for 15 mins instead and they come out great.

    2. 3 stars
I dunno, my scones are usually pretty hard too. Maybe it’s just how they be sometimes? But I like them with coffee anyway.

  30. 4 stars
I didn’t have pumpkin pie spice, used cinnamon instead. They were still good but not quite right. 4 stars.

  31. User avatar Lessie Schulist Jr. says:

    4 stars
I like this, but can I use sweet potato instead of pumpkin? 🤔

  32. User avatar Glossu "Beast" Rabban says:

    5 stars
These scones are absolutely delicious! Perfect for autumn mornings. Will definitely make again.

  33. User avatar nona.schumm says:

    2 stars
Eh, I’ve had better pumpkin recipes. Don’t know if I’ll make again.

  34. User avatar colton.hodkiewicz89 says:

    2 stars
Can I use sweet potato instead of pumpkin? I have some left over.

  35. 2 stars
400°F seems too hot for 18-20 mins? Mine got a little over-browned on the bottom before the middle felt set. I’d lower temp to 375 next time.

  36. User avatar jannie.heaney says:

    4 stars
Never heard of Pumpkin Scones before. Tried them and they were amazing! Perfect for fall.

  37. User avatar Kenisha Strosin V says:

I am not a baker, but these are super easy! I had fun making them. Will definitely do again!

  38. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

The pumpkin puree + heavy cream combo is a great idea. I added cinnamon to the crumb topping and it elevated it a ton. 10/10 comfort food.

    1. User avatar damien.hansen96 says:

      3 stars
I tried this but my dough was way too wet? I used canned pumpkin and regular cream… maybe I overmixed. Also I baked like 30 minutes and they were still kinda pale. Any advice on thickness of the disc?

    2. User avatar mathWizard says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—pumpkin puree + heavy cream makes them so tender. I also did a little extra vanilla and they came out super cozy. Thanks for the cinnamon crumb topping tip!

  39. 2 stars
I don’t know, the texture was more like bread than a scone. Not what I was expecting.

  40. User avatar Roy Hammes says:

    5 stars
Yum, pumpkin spice is life! These are delicious! 😋
