Mummy Hot Dogs

October 28, 2024

Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun and spooky treat made by wrapping hot dogs in crescent roll dough to resemble classic mummies. Perfect for Halloween festivities or a themed party.

Mummy Hot Dogs are a playful, spooky, and irresistibly delicious treat that’s perfect for Halloween parties, family gatherings, or festive snacks. Wrapped in strips of dough to resemble little mummies, these savory bites are as fun to look at as they are to eat. They capture the Halloween spirit without being overly complicated, making them a favorite for both kids and adults.

The charm of mummy hot dogs comes from their clever yet simple design. Each hot dog is wrapped with thin strips of dough, usually crescent roll dough, puff pastry, or pizza dough, to mimic the look of ancient mummy bandages. Once baked, the dough turns golden and flaky while the hot dogs stay juicy inside, creating a perfect combination of textures.

Adding little eyes is what truly brings the mummies to life. Small dots of mustard, ketchup, or edible candy eyes placed between the dough strips give each mummy a quirky personality. Some look surprised, others silly or spooky, which adds an extra layer of fun, especially for kids who love picking their favorite faces.

These treats are not only adorable but also practical for parties. They’re easy to make, easy to serve, and require no utensils, perfect finger food for mingling guests. They also pair well with a variety of dips like ketchup, mustard, cheese sauce, or spicy mayo, adding extra flavor to each bite.

Mummy Hot Dogs are a fantastic kitchen activity for families. Kids can help with wrapping the dough and placing the eyes, turning prep time into a fun Halloween tradition. Whether served as appetizers, snacks, or part of a spooky dinner, these little mummies are guaranteed to steal the spotlight at any Halloween gathering.

Quick and easy Halloween vibe. I used the whole tube and had just enough strips. Next time I’ll leave a bit bigger “face” space for the eyes.

Not as good as I thought. The dough was too doughy, needed to be crunchier.

  27. User avatar evia.willms64 says:

I couldn’t cut thin strips without making a mess. Also I think I used too much dough and the hot dogs felt cramped? Flavor was fine.

    1. User avatar Leto Atreides says:

      4 stars
Ugh, I feel you 😅 I always make a mess with that dough too. I’ve found it helps to cut the strips after chilling the dough 5–10 min, and using a light hand so you don’t overpack them—otherwise they get “cramped” and don’t brown right.

    2. User avatar Majikthise says:

      3 stars
Maybe your dough was a bit too thick. Also, I’ve heard you’re supposed to leave a bigger gap for the face—like cut the strips wider so there’s more room? My first try was kinda cramped too, but still tasty. Try less dough per hot dog next time.

  28. User avatar maribel.russel34 says:

    5 stars
Just 5 ingredients? Can’t argue with that! good job.

  29. 1 star
Hot dogs? Seriously? How do you even get this idea? Pass.

  30. User avatar willard.runolfsson1979 says:

Not my thing. Hot dog should not be covered in dough!! Sounds wrong.

  33. User avatar katelynn.renner says:

Mine didn’t brown as much after 15 minutes. I think my oven runs cool. Still tasty though—crispy outside, warm inside.

  34. User avatar matthew.harber38 says:

    4 stars
Amazingly easy recipe! I had some dough left over so I made a few with cheese inside too. Yum!

  35. User avatar shirly.keeling40 says:

Super cute idea for Halloween! My kids loved helping wrap the mummies. Will make again!

    1. User avatar lynwood.grady says:

      3 stars
This seems easy but, like, wouldn’t the dough be super hard to wrap? Just saying.

    2. User avatar willie.dickens1987 says:

      5 stars
What a fun activity! I love that your kids helped. It’s great bonding time. 🌟

  37. User avatar senaida.bruen51 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, 12-15 minutes felt short. I cooked mine closer to 18 and the dough was way crispier. Still good though.

  42. User avatar harvey.emard1977 says:

    2 stars
I dunno, they look a bit too weird for me. Hot dogs wrapped in dough? 👀 Maybe for kids but I can’t really.

  43. 5 stars
Lol “mummy” hot dogs are genius. I didn’t have candy eyes so I used sliced olives—worked surprisingly well.

    1. User avatar frankie.shanahan92 says:

      3 stars
Wait, olive slices as eyes? That sounds kinda salty to me… but if it works, I guess I’ll risk it. The crescent dough should be the real magic here lol.

    2. User avatar weston.schaefer74 says:

      5 stars
Omg this is such a cute idea 😄 the olive “candy eye” hack is brilliant. Definitely trying that next time!

  44. User avatar faustina.dickinson32 says:

    5 stars
OMG, I love this idea! My friend made them last year and they were a hit.

  45. User avatar mckinley.stanton48 says:

    1. User avatar teresita.nitzsche73 says:

      5 stars
That sounds like a delicious twist! Cheese makes everything better! 😋

    2. 2 stars
Cheese in hot dogs? Really? Seems kinda weird. 🤔

  46. 5 stars
Mmmm, these are tasty! My family ate them all in like 10 minutes. 😂

    1. User avatar norman.harber says:

  48. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
Changed it up and added cheese. It was better than expected!

  49. 2 stars
Meh. Too much work for something that’s basically a hot dog in dough. Kids loved it but adults were like, “idk.”

  50. User avatar Ryan Shenlong says:

    4 stars
Yum yum! Easy to prepare for the kids. Wish they were healthier tho!

  51. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    4 stars
I skipped the eyes and added mustard. 10/10 would eat again, but the “leaving a small space open for the face” part was kinda hard.

    1. User avatar rosemary.morissette1972 says:

      5 stars
Ha, mustard might actually make it creepier in a tasty way 😄 I’m glad it still worked! The “small space open for the face” part always feels like a surgery job.

  52. User avatar irving.fahey6 says:

    5 stars
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! My kids wanna help make them again!

  53. User avatar tai.rath2007 says:

    2 stars
Not really a fan of hot dogs. Can I use something else?

  54. User avatar geoWizard says:

    4 stars
The instructions are straightforward, but cutting into “thin strips” is subjective. I ended up tearing some dough. Next time I’ll make more uniform strips.

  55. User avatar bert.streich20 says:

    3 stars
What if I just used regular bread? Wanna try that instead… gonna be good? 🤔

  56. 2 stars
I tried making these but the dough didn’t stick at all. Total flop.

  57. User avatar danny.lubowitz says:

    3 stars
I don’t like hot dogs. Can this be made with chicken?

  58. 2 stars
I don’t get why these are called ‘mummy’ hot dogs. They’re just wrapped sausages…

    1. 5 stars
It’s a Halloween thing! They look like mummies, trust me, it’s a fun twist for the kids!

  59. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

    3 stars
Not enough dough for the hot dogs? Or is it just me?

  60. 2 stars
I dunno man, seems kinda silly to me. Just gonna eat a hot dog plain instead. Why wrap it?

  61. User avatar camilla.batz96 says:

    2 stars
I dunno, I think the dough was a bit too tough. Not my fave. 2/5

  62. User avatar latrina.mccullough says:

    5 stars
These were weirdly fun to make 😄 The dough turned out golden and the hot dogs were cooked through—my kids loved the mummy look!

  63. 1 star
Y’all, why use hot dogs? That’s nasty. Just get a veggie dog maybe?

  64. User avatar carlos.harvey44 says:

    5 stars
These Mummy Hot Dogs are a hit at our Halloween party! Super fun to make with the kids.

  65. 3 stars
The dough got oily on my tray. Maybe I should’ve used parchment. Still tasted fine, just not as crisp as I hoped.

  66. 5 stars
Great idea for a family fun night, kids loved making them too!

  67. User avatar zachariah.kuphal says:

    2 stars
Didn’t turn out like the picture. Got frustrated.

  68. User avatar jessenia.fadel1952 says:

    4 stars
Love this idea! Used puff pastry instead of crescent rolls and they turned out awesome! 🥳

    1. User avatar Edgar DuBuque says:

      3 stars
Puff pastry? Really?? I can’t imagine that it’s the same as using crescent rolls. But hey, if you liked it, that’s what matters!

    2. User avatar blake.emard12 says:

      5 stars
That’s a great twist on the recipe! Puff pastry would definitely give it a flakier texture. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  69. 5 stars
Really good comfort food. The golden crust + hot dog combo hits. The mummy face design is the only reason I’m willing to cook anything on a school night.

  70. User avatar lyle.boehm54 says:

    5 stars
Mummy hot dogs? LOL! My kids just call it spooky hot dog. 😂

  71. 3 stars
Hot dogs in dough? Sounds weird. Not sure if I’d want to try it.

  72. User avatar genevie.windler says:

    3 stars
I wish there was a vegan version. Hot dogs are not my jam!

  73. 4 stars
Wow these look scary but in a good way! Perfect for Halloween party!

  74. User avatar lanny.conroy says:

    5 stars
These are adorable! I made them for my niece’s Halloween party and they disappeared fast. The dough strips are way easier than I thought.

  75. 1 star
Hot dogs? Seriously? Why not use real meat like steak?

    1. User avatar ferdinand.lind66 says:

      5 stars
This is a fun recipe for Halloween! Hot dogs are great for kids, and they love them. Who cares if it’s not steak?

    2. User avatar Photographer says:

      3 stars
I dunno man, hot dogs just ain’t the same as a good steak. This feels kinda lazy to me. But I guess kids like it?

  76. 4 stars
My kids couldn’t get enough of these! So easy and fun to make.

  77. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    1 star
why not just use sausages? 🤔

    1. User avatar Winnie Bago says:

Sausages are already included in the recipe! 😄 The dough just makes them fun for Halloween!

  78. User avatar hung.welch67 says:

I don’t get why you would wrap hot dogs in dough. Sounds weird.

    1. User avatar tristan.stracke1967 says:

I think it’s creative! It’s like a fun twist on a classic snack. Perfect for Halloween parties!

    2. User avatar violet.cruickshank says:

      2 stars
Nah, that sounds off. What’s next? Spaghetti tacos? I don’t know about this.

  79. 2 stars
These are easy, but my dough didn’t cook right. Maybe I rushed it.

  80. User avatar ronny.cronin2007 says:

    5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about baking hot dogs in crescent dough… but wow. Great snack idea and easy with kids.
