High Protein Overnight Oats

September 11, 2024

High Protein Overnight Oats are the perfect way to start your day with a balanced, nutrient-packed breakfast. These no-cook oats are infused with protein-rich ingredients like Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and a scoop of protein powder, providing a satisfying and energizing way to fuel your morning. Not only are they quick and easy to make, but they also offer the convenience of a grab-and-go breakfast, ensuring you have a nutritious meal even on the busiest days.

What makes High Protein Overnight Oats so special is their ability to keep you feeling full and energized all morning long. The oats provide a slow-releasing source of fiber, while the Greek yogurt and protein powder boost the protein content, supporting muscle recovery and helping you stay satisfied. Add-ins like chia seeds or flaxseeds also contribute healthy fats, omega-3s, and additional fiber.

The beauty of overnight oats is that you can prepare them the night before, making them an ideal option for busy mornings. Simply mix rolled oats with your choice of milk (dairy or plant-based), Greek yogurt, and your preferred protein powder. Add in some honey or maple syrup for a touch of sweetness, and top with fruits like berries, bananas, or nuts for extra flavor and crunch. Let the oats sit overnight in the fridge, and by morning, you’ll have a creamy, thick oatmeal that’s ready to enjoy.

These oats are not only a great breakfast option but also a versatile meal prep idea. You can customize them to fit your tastes or dietary needs by choosing different types of milk or protein powders. For a vegan version, use plant-based yogurt and protein powder, and you can easily swap in your favorite toppings, like nut butter or dried fruits, to change up the flavors.

High Protein Overnight Oats are the perfect balance of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. They’re convenient, customizable, and provide lasting energy, making them the ultimate healthy breakfast for anyone looking to start their day right.

Mine came out kinda gloopy and the texture was… weird? Maybe I stirred too little, or my chia was old. Still ate it though, just not my favorite.

I’ve had this happen when I use too thick a yogurt or not enough milk. Next time maybe add a splash more milk before refrigerating. Also chia seeds—if they’re stale—yeah, texture gets gross fast. But honestly… still ate it is real 😄

    2. User avatar makeda.wintheiser52 says:

      4 stars
That sounds super annoying 😅 Chia can definitely make it go gloopy if it’s old or if it sat too long without enough liquid. Did you end up using the full 1 tbsp chia? I’d try 1 tbsp max and really stir well the first minute or two, then again in the morning.

  2. User avatar donnette.fadel71 says:

    1 star
Why would anyone want to eat raw oats? Seems gross to me.

    1. User avatar Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard says:

      4 stars
I was skeptical too at first, but they really aren’t that bad! Just give them a try, you might be surprised!

  3. User avatar ferdinand.hickle1987 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about overnight oats staying good for breakfast, but mine was fine after ~8 hours. Protein powder smell was strong though—need to mix better.

  4. User avatar deeann.leuschke14 says:

    5 stars
    5 stars. Easy. 😅

  5. User avatar edwin.goyette says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe and I didn’t like it… the protein powder was overwhelming and my oats turned out mushy. Maybe I did something wrong?

    1. User avatar roxie.crist says:

      4 stars
I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you! Maybe try less protein powder next time? It’s easy to overdo it!

    2. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      3 stars
I thought it was good! But yeah, mushy oats can happen if you let them sit too long. Just experiment with the liquids next time!

  6. User avatar serena.durgan says:

    2 stars
I used stevia and it tasted metallic. Next time I’ll just do maple syrup or honey. Recipe is solid, just my sweetener choice.

  7. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    4 stars
I didn’t think I would like overnight oats, but this recipe changed my mind. Yum!

    1. User avatar rosendo.watsica1989 says:

      2 stars
Overnight oats? Not sure if I’ll ever like that stuff. Just doesn’t look appetizing, ya know?

    2. 5 stars
I tried this too! It’s so easy and delicious. My kids love it!

  8. 3 stars
Not a big fan of Greek yogurt, can I just skip it? My oats were kinda bland.

    1. User avatar Keenan Hansen says:

      4 stars
You can skip the Greek yogurt, but it adds creaminess and protein. Maybe try using more fruits to enhance the flavor?

  9. 4 stars
Gotta say, chia + overnight oats is genius. The texture is weird at first but then you get used to it.

  10. User avatar Wonko the Sane says:

    3 stars
I tried it, and it was just okay. I think I needed more flavor or something.

  11. User avatar eleonor.reinger says:

    1 star
Just made it, too mushy 😒. Not my style.

  12. User avatar joey.champlin1978 says:

    5 stars
Easy and quick! I made it with almond milk and strawberries. A winner!

    1. User avatar daina.predovic85 says:

      3 stars
Almond milk sounds good! But is it really that easy? I usually mess up breakfast. Haha!

  13. User avatar zena.schuppe says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. I used chocolate protein and added a banana—tasted like dessert but still felt healthy. Chia also gives it that nice thicker texture.

  14. User avatar audrie.goodwin says:

    3 stars
I followed it mostly, but mine was way too thick after overnight. I think my protein powder was thicker or I used less milk than needed. Next time I’ll add a splash before refrigerating.

  15. User avatar nickie.kertzmann1986 says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the sweetener—1 tsp is fine but I like it sweeter. Also, I tried honey and it didn’t fully mix, like clumps?? Still edible though.

  16. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    4 stars
Could you use regular milk instead of almond/soy? I did and it was fine, but I wish the recipe said that upfront.

  17. User avatar gerri.conroy11 says:

    5 stars
This is the best breakfast ever! So easy and delicious. I love it!

  18. 3 stars
“overnight or at least 4 hours” — so if I do like 2 hours will it be okay? Asking for science 😅

  19. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, overnight oats with Greek yogurt sound healthy but kinda bland to me. I added extra berries and it helped.

    1. 2 stars
Idk, overnight oats are always boring to me. I followed the recipe kinda, but 1/2 cup fruit doesn’t save it. Maybe I should’ve used more sweetener? Or the protein powder flavor matters a lot.

    2. User avatar manuel.bernhard says:

      5 stars
Totally get it—Greek yogurt + oats can feel kinda bland at first. Extra berries are the move. I also add cinnamon or a splash of vanilla to make it less “plain yogurt bowl” lol.

  20. User avatar dexter.koss78 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! I added some cinnamon and banana slices, and it turned out delicious. Will def make again!

  21. 4 stars
Lazy breakfast? Yes please! I love mixing in berries 😍

  22. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
5 stars for sure!!! Delicious and filling. Can’t get enough of it!

    1. User avatar dalton.klein1952 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! These oats are lifesavers for busy mornings. I add peanut butter too for extra flavor!

  23. User avatar colleen.powlowski86 says:

    2 stars
Oats r for horses! I prefer bacon & eggs any day.

  24. User avatar eloy.torphy says:

    5 stars
Wow 10/10. Overnight oats are my gym breakfast. My wife said it tastes like cheesecake, lol.

    1. User avatar santos.fadel says:

      5 stars
Love that—cheesecake vibes is the best kind of motivation 😂 I do mine with vanilla protein and berries and it’s dangerously good.

    2. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

      3 stars
I’m skeptical lol. Protein powder in oats usually tastes kinda chalky to me… do you have a brand/flavor that doesn’t?

  25. User avatar isidro.koch21 says:

    5 stars
These overnight oats are so good! I added peanut butter and banana, yum! 🥜🍌

    1. 5 stars
I’ve tried adding nut butter too! It makes it so creamy and tasty. Great combo with banana! 😍

    2. User avatar asa.wyman10 says:

      2 stars
Not sure about the oats. Aren’t they kinda soggy after sitting overnight? 🤔

  26. User avatar lorean.graham says:

    1 star
Overnight oats? Pff, I ain’t waiting overnight to eat!

  27. 4 stars
Recipe is fine, but I think it could use nuts or peanut butter for more flavor.

  28. User avatar christen.quigley57 says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe but it turned super thick in my jar… like paste. Maybe my milk was too thick or I didn’t stir enough?

    1. User avatar maurice.carter39 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, that sounds like it got a bit too “set.” Overnight oats thicken fast with chia + protein powder. I’d say either your milk was thicker than usual (or you used a smaller liquid amount), and/or the mixture didn’t get fully stirred before chilling. Next time, stir really well right after mixing (or blend briefly), and add 1–2 extra tbsp milk in the morning before the final stir.

  29. User avatar coralie.barrows15 says:

    4 stars
Great recipe! I swapped yogurt for cottage cheese and it’s still delish! 😋

    1. User avatar marcel.pfeffer says:

      3 stars
Cottage cheese? Really? 🤔 I don’t know if that would work as well but glad it turned out delish for ya! I might stick to yogurt tho.

  30. 5 stars
These overnight oats are so good! I love the texture and how easy they are to make. I’ll be having them every week now!

    1. 2 stars
They look yummy and all, but does anyone really need that much protein? Seems a bit excessive.

    2. User avatar aiko.treutel2017 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! They’re so easy to prepare and taste amazing. I also add nuts sometimes for extra crunch!

  31. User avatar darlena.heidenreich1960 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about overnight oats with protein powder—sounds like chalk city. But it turned out fine.

  32. User avatar dominic.dibbert says:

    5 stars
Overnight oats are the best! Especially if you’re a busy mom like me!

  33. 5 stars
Omg this is a lifesaver for breakfast!! Super quick and tastes great!

  34. 5 stars
WOW! 5 stars! I’ve never felt so full in the morning! I added some walnuts too, yummm!

  35. User avatar Boyd D'Amore says:

    5 stars
One word: yummy. Also, my apple slices got mushy though, so I’d choose berries next time.

  36. User avatar Forest Minish says:

    2 stars
I used soy milk and it had a weird aftertaste. Maybe next time I’ll stick to almond milk or regular dairy.

  37. User avatar gwen.gerhold58 says:

    2 stars
Looks good but i dont have chia seeds—can i skip it? (also overnight like 1 day, right?)

  38. User avatar Miss Cherilyn Moen says:

    5 stars
This is lit! I used almond milk and added blueberries, yum!

    1. User avatar alta.cole52 says:

      3 stars
Almond milk? Isn’t that just for vegans? 🤔 But if you like it, good for you!

    2. User avatar wendell.ritchie2005 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love how customizable it is. Blueberries are a great addition! 😍

  39. User avatar florrie.flatley says:

    4 stars
I like the simplicity, but 1 tbsp sweetener feels like a lot if you use flavored yogurt + protein. I’ll cut it next time.

  40. User avatar dusty.shields1988 says:

    3 stars
Confused by the chia seeds. What are they for? I just left them out.

    1. 4 stars
Chia seeds are great for adding some nutrients like fiber and omega-3s, but if you left them out, it’s not a big deal! Your oats will still taste good!

  41. User avatar brenna.purdy says:

    2 stars
I didn’t like the texture much, it was kinda slimy. Maybe I did it wrong?

    1. User avatar Bo D. Satva says:

      4 stars
I found the texture to be just fine! Maybe try using less yogurt next time?

  42. 5 stars
These oats are amazing! Perfect for my busy mornings. I added some almond butter on top!

    1. User avatar dustin.lockman18 says:

      2 stars
But is this really filling enough? I tried it and was still hungry after 😕.

    2. User avatar young.raynor99 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The almond butter really adds that extra creaminess. Love these oats!

  43. User avatar meri.wyman says:

    1 star
These oats? Meh. Thumbs down! I prefer my breakfast cooked, not cold.

  44. User avatar earlean.buckridge26 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about the protein powder flavor—mine was chalky at first. After I stirred harder in the morning it improved a lot.

    1. User avatar lane.crooks53 says:

      4 stars
Mine was kinda gross at first (like dusty? lol) but I used vanilla whey and it got better after sitting longer. Also I wonder if it matters which milk—whole milk helped me more than almond.

    2. User avatar delmy.smith says:

      5 stars
Yeah I’ve had that happen too—some protein powders are super chalky until they fully hydrate. Stirring more in the morning probably saved it!

  45. 5 stars
Tried this with vanilla protein and soy milk—so creamy in the morning. The chia is a nice touch too.

    1. User avatar elva.crooks says:

      3 stars
I tried this once but mine was kinda gluey lol. Maybe my chia was too much or I used flavored protein. Still, the idea is solid and fast.

    2. 5 stars
Yes!! Soy milk + vanilla protein is such a good combo—mine turned out really thick too. I always add a little extra chia if I want it even creamier.

  46. User avatar franklin.heaney74 says:

    5 stars
So much protein, and it keeps me full all morning! I added bananas and honey. Delicious!

  47. User avatar Ms. Raymundo Hintz says:

    5 stars
This is such a good meal prep idea. I add extra berries and it tastes like dessert but keeps me full all morning.

    1. 5 stars
Love this! I do the same with extra berries—makes it feel like a treat. The protein powder is clutch for staying full.

    2. User avatar vincent.beier says:

      3 stars
I tried overnight oats once and they were all watery for me… do you think the amount of milk matters a lot? Also can I skip the chia seeds? Not sure I have them.

  48. User avatar freddie.bins2006 says:

    5 stars
Tried this with vanilla protein and it actually tasted like dessert. The chia made it extra filling too. Will make again for sure!

  49. User avatar Shanda Pacocha says:

    4 stars
Good idea, but I had to add more sweetener because my protein powder tasted kind of bitter. Still ended up tasty!

  50. 4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. I did 4 hours instead of overnight and it was still creamy. Sweetener-wise, I’d start with less honey unless you really like it sweet.

    1. User avatar tenesha.pfannerstill76 says:

      5 stars
Good call on the honey—mine always ends up sweeter than I expect. I’ll definitely start with less next time.

    2. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      4 stars
4 hours worked for me too, i thought it wouldnt, lol. Pro tip: if you use chia, let it sit a lil longer so it thickens more.

  51. User avatar Robert Waters Sr. says:

    4 stars
Pretty good. I didn’t have chia so I left it out and it was thinner, but still tasted alright. Breakfast win.

  52. 5 stars
    Good stuff!

    1. User avatar eda.wehner says:

      5 stars
Thanks! Overnight oats are such an easy grab-and-go breakfast—plus the extra protein really keeps me full.

  53. User avatar geoWizard says:

    4 stars
Easy to make! I prepped it in the morning and ate it for breakfast at work. A lifesaver!

    1. User avatar gilbert.collier1954 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, overnight oats seem gross to me. I prefer my oats warm, not cold! 🤔

    2. User avatar joe.willms says:

      5 stars
I love how simple this is! Perfect for busy mornings. 😍

  54. User avatar marth.monahan says:

    5 stars
Tried this with vanilla protein and it’s actually filling. The chia makes it thicker than my usual overnight oats—nice.

  55. User avatar malcom.pouros1959 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about overnight oats being “high protein” unless you pick the right protein powder. But if you measure the scoop, it makes sense.

    1. User avatar renda.bogan says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—without a good protein powder (or enough yogurt), it’s not really high protein. But the Greek yogurt + measured scoop combo in this recipe should carry it.

  56. User avatar chung.lemke1996 says:

    4 stars
This is super healthy and all but like… do I have to stir in the morning? I’m lazy 😅

  57. User avatar darron.volkman24 says:

    3 stars
The chia seeds are optional but I added them. Now I feel like I’m eating chia pudding lol. Kinda weird at first, but after a couple bites I liked it.

    1. User avatar nicolas.barton94 says:

      5 stars
Haha I totally get that—once the chia gels up it basically turns into pudding. But if you like the texture, that’s a win. What flavor protein did you use?

  58. 2 stars
Did anybody else find this a bit too sweet? I used honey and it was like eating candy!

  59. User avatar eduardo.gerhold says:

    5 stars
Great high-protein option for busy mornings. I meal prep 2 jars at a time. Adding banana gets mushy though—berries are better IMO.

  60. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    5 stars
My kid loved it—said it was like pudding. I used vanilla protein and strawberry yogurt and it came out creamy.

    1. User avatar Ka'o Muakagh says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! My kid always wants pudding-style stuff too—good idea with the vanilla protein + strawberry yogurt. I bet the chia helped thicken it.

    2. User avatar halflife4 says:

      3 stars
Like pudding? Mine turned kinda thick and not sweet enough—maybe I didn’t stir the sweetener well. Next time I’ll use more fruit or a little extra maple syrup. Also, how long did you refrigerate—overnight or just 4 hours?
