Heart Shaped Homemade Pizza

January 24, 2024

Nothing says “I love you” like a heart-shaped homemade pizza. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, hosting a fun family dinner, or just want to add a little flair to your next pizza night, this playful twist on a classic dish will make everyone smile.

The beauty of this pizza lies in its versatility. You can use any pizza dough recipe you love, store-bought or homemade. For a quick shortcut, opt for pre-made dough, which works perfectly for this project. If you prefer to make your own dough, a simple mix of flour, yeast, olive oil, and water will do the trick. Allow it to rise, then roll it out into a heart shape. The trick is to start by rolling your dough into a circle and then gently pulling and shaping the edges into a heart, working with your hands to form the point and the top curves.

Once your heart-shaped dough is ready, it’s time to pile on the toppings. Start with a thin layer of pizza sauce, and then add your favorite cheese – mozzarella is the classic choice, but you can mix it up with provolone, goat cheese, or even a bit of ricotta. Then, go wild with your toppings! You can keep it simple with a classic Margherita, fresh basil and sliced tomatoes, or get creative with pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, bell peppers, or even some fresh arugula after baking for a peppery finish.

Bake your pizza at a high temperature (about 475°F or 245°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned. The result is a crisp, cheesy, and fun pizza that’s perfect for sharing.

Heart-shaped homemade pizza isn’t just about looks, it’s about making a meal that’s full of love and personality. It’s perfect for date night, family gatherings, or any occasion where you want to serve something a little extra special. Serve with a side salad, a glass of wine, or your favorite beverage, and enjoy every bite.

I don’t know about the heart shape… just feels gimmicky. Taste over form, right?

Five stars for vibes. Four stars for taste. But I burned one because I got distracted by the heart shape lol.

Easy to make! But I subbed some ingredients and it didn’t have the same taste. Still pretty good!

This recipe is too complicated for me, just buy a frozen pizza instead! 😩

I get that! Sometimes simpler is better. But making your own can be fun! 🥰

So cute! I used a heart cutter that was a little bigger and it still worked. The dough was soft and easy to knead.

Aww I love the heart cutter idea! Mine always comes out bigger too, so good to know it still works. 😊

Looks cute but I’m skeptical about using a cookie cutter for pizza. Dough can spring back—also my cutter stuck. Still, I guess it’s fun for Valentine’s.

Not gonna lie, the pepperoni step is genius. It looks fancy without extra work. My kids loved the “pizza hearts” name.

So I followed your recpie step by step, and everyone loved it! I added mushrooms too. Thanks!

I love the pepperoni heart trimming with shears part 😂 It’s kinda chaotic but fun. My kids were obsessed.

Honestly? Not bad. Next time I’ll add garlic or Italian seasoning to the sauce because it’s kind of plain by itself.

The instructions are simple, but I wish it said how thick to roll the dough. I went thin and got crispy (not bad, just different).

  12. 4 stars
Yum! I added some veggies on top too. Gave it a nice crunch. Super easy to make!

This was way harder than it seemed. Deff need more practice with dough.

  14. 4 stars
Pretty solid base recipe. I’d just add a pinch of garlic powder to the dough next time—because why not?

  15. 2 stars
Seems a bit weird to bake the pizza right after shaping with a cutter—don’t you need more proofing? Maybe that’s just me.

    1. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

I get what you mean, but since the dough already proofed for 30 min, it should have enough rise. The cutter step is more shaping than “starting over.”

Maybe you’re thinking of dough that’s only been mixed—this recipe does knead + rise before shaping, so it’s probably fine. 12-15 min at 450°F also helps set it fast.

Loved it! I added some jalapeños for a kick! Definitely making this again.

Heart-shaped pizza? Sounds silly. Just get a regular pizza! But I guess it’s a fun idea for Valentine’s Day.

Why go through all this trouble? Just order a pizza! 😂

Had to substitute half the flour with cornmeal because we didn’t have enough. Ended up a bit crumbly, so watch out!

    1. 3 stars
Cornmeal? Really? That’s not a common swap. You sure it didn’t mess up the taste? The idea is cute tho!

    2. User avatar rosena.runolfsdottir says:

I actually like a bit of crunch in my crust! Maybe I’ll give the cornmeal a try! Thanks for the tip!

I liked that it’s simple and uses common ingredients. The instructions are pretty clear. Only thing: my dough was sticky at first, so I added a bit more flour while kneading.

    1. User avatar Michael83 says:

I had the same sticky situation at first—good call adding flour while kneading. After resting 10 minutes it usually firms up too.

  22. User avatar adela.lemke19 says:

The dough was way too sticky! What did I do wrong? It was a mess, but it tasted ok.

The instructions say rise for 30 minutes, but mine took closer to 45. Still turned out great though. Next time I’ll warm the water a bit more and be patient.

Not gonna lie, the pepperoni step is weirdly specific. Kitchen shears?? I ended up just chopping pepperoni like normal.

This pizza turned out amazing! We loved the heart shape. Great for date night!

1 packet yeast = what exactly? I used instant yeast instead and it didn’t need the foamy step, so I think the timing is off.

Had a blast making these with my kids! They turned out yummy and we had fun!
