Gluten-Free Nut Banana Bread

January 16, 2025

Gluten-free nut banana bread is a delicious twist on the classic banana bread, offering the same moist, flavorful texture but without any gluten. Perfect for those with dietary restrictions or anyone looking to try something a little different, this banana bread is packed with natural sweetness from ripe bananas and a crunchy, savory boost from the addition of nuts. Whether you’re gluten-sensitive or just craving a wholesome treat, this bread is a satisfying option that’s easy to make and even easier to enjoy.

The key to making a great gluten-free banana bread is using a good gluten-free flour blend. These blends typically include rice flour, almond flour, or tapioca flour, which give the bread a nice crumb while ensuring it remains soft and moist. Combined with the bananas, the flour absorbs the moisture and sweetness of the fruit, resulting in a tender loaf.

Ripe bananas are essential for this recipe, as their natural sweetness adds depth to the bread and helps keep it moist. The bananas also provide a rich, creamy texture that pairs wonderfully with the nuts. Walnuts or pecans are a common choice for adding a satisfying crunch, but you can easily use your favorite nuts, like almonds or cashews, for a unique twist. The nuts not only enhance the flavor but also offer a contrast to the softness of the bread, making each bite enjoyable.

To balance the sweetness of the bananas, a touch of vanilla extract and cinnamon brings warmth and depth to the flavor profile. A little bit of honey or maple syrup can be added for extra sweetness, depending on your preference. The combination of gluten-free flour, ripe bananas, nuts, and warm spices creates a loaf that’s fragrant, moist, and packed with flavor.

This banana bread is simple to make, and you’ll only need a few basic ingredients. Mix everything together, pour it into a loaf pan, and bake it until golden brown. The result is a soft, slightly dense bread that’s perfect for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert. You can serve it warm with a dollop of butter or enjoy it as is for a wholesome treat.

Gluten-free nut banana bread is a versatile recipe that you can easily adapt to suit your tastes. Add chocolate chips for a richer flavor, or fold in dried fruit for a burst of sweetness. Whatever variations you choose, this bread is sure to be a hit with everyone, whether or not they follow a gluten-free diet.

Loved it! Best gluten-free banana bread I’ve ever made. So moist!

  2. 2 stars
I followed everything exactly and it kind of tasted flat? Like… not enough vanilla maybe, idk. Also the top browned too fast so I covered it with foil halfway through.

  3. User avatar liberal.hero says:

Bananas, flour, bad! I’m gluten-free and I don’t support these trends.

  4. 5 stars
Yum!! Perfect with some nut butter spread! 😍

  5. User avatar elaina.hilpert says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but mine took closer to 70 minutes to fully set in the middle. Also I think 1/2 cup sugar was a little low for my taste—next time I’ll add a few extra tablespoons.

  6. User avatar daren.boyle46 says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but it came out too dense. What did I do wrong?

  7. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
Made this yesterday—my loaf came out super moist and the banana flavor is real. Used a different GF flour blend but followed everything else and it worked.

Banana bread without gluten? Sounds fake but I tried lol. It’s edible at least. Wouldn’t serve it to my picky friends tho.

    1. User avatar Carrie A. Tune says:

      4 stars
Haha I get why it sounds fake 😅 But banana bread is usually pretty forgiving—gluten-free still sets up fine with the bananas/eggs. I’d definitely serve it to non-picky friends; maybe slice it thicker and toast it first for extra “real bread” vibes.

  9. User avatar gerardo.denesik79 says:

    4 stars
Good idea, but mine was a little dense in the middle. I think my bananas weren’t quite ripe enough—next time I’ll mash them more thoroughly and check for doneness closer to 55 minutes.

    1. User avatar daniele.schaden91 says:

      3 stars
Huh, 55 minutes? Mine always takes like 70, so idk—gluten-free flour brands change everything. Also bananas were prob fine, maybe you overmixed or your oven runs hot. Next time check with a thermometer maybe?

    2. User avatar herschel.schroeder says:

      5 stars
That makes total sense—gluten-free loaves can definitely stay a bit dense if the bananas aren’t ripe or the batter isn’t mixed enough. I like your plan for mashing more and checking around 55 minutes. 😊

  10. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

    4 stars
So easy to make! Used coconut oil instead of butter cause I ran out. Still turned out delicious.

  11. 3 stars
Isn’t gluten-free just a fad? But this bread is okay I guess.

  12. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    2 stars
Gave it a shot but I think the gluten is what makes bread so good! This just isn’t the same.

  13. User avatar isaac.gleason says:

    3 stars
Bananas in bread? Weird. But I guess this is popular, huh. Not for me!

  14. User avatar doloris.stiedemann says:

Bread was too dense for my taste. Not bad but not great either.

  15. 5 stars
This turned out fantastic! So moist and yummy. My kids loved it!

This banana bread is amazing! I’ve never tried gluten-free before and I’m so glad I did. The texture is perfect. Will make it again!

    1. User avatar awilda.hegmann58 says:

      3 stars
Really? Gluten-free banana bread? I was skeptical at first, but now I’m curious. Is it really as good as regular bread?

    2. 5 stars
I’m so glad you loved it! Gluten-free baking can be tricky, but this recipe is a winner. Happy baking!

  19. User avatar Daedric Prince says:

    5 stars
Walnuts were a great call. Next time I might toast them first for more crunch. Also, 350°F for 60 min was spot on in my oven.

  20. User avatar kevin.kuvalis1991 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about gluten-free flour baking up like normal bread, but this actually baked well. Texture was tender, not gummy. I might reduce the butter by a tiny bit though—felt a bit rich.

    1. User avatar Wonko the Sane says:

      5 stars
Same! I was worried it’d turn gummy, but this turned out tender for me too. I did notice it’s pretty rich—next time I’ll try cutting the butter like you said. Did you keep the full 60 minutes?

  21. User avatar lemuel.luettgen says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually a baker, but the steps were straightforward. Mine needed like 65-70 minutes though (my oven runs hot/cold). Still delicious.

  22. User avatar Erwin Sporer I says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added some chocolate chips and it turned out great! Will be making again for sure.

  23. User avatar abby.von says:

Chocolate chips make everything better! Glad you enjoyed it! 🍌🍫

  24. User avatar kareem.treutel says:

    3 stars
This bread tastes good but the texture was weirdly dense for me. I think my bananas weren’t ripe enough (lesson learned). I’ll try weighing the flour next time instead of scooping.

  25. User avatar eveline.paucek says:

    1 star
This is a joke, right? How can you make bread without gluten? My grandma would be rolling in her grave. Disappointed.

  26. User avatar sterling.conn says:

    2 stars
umm 350F for 60 min and toothpick clean?? mine was raw in the middle after an hour lol. maybe my oven runs hot.

  27. 3 stars
I don’t understand how this is gluten-free. It tastes just like regular bread. Are you sure?

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      5 stars
It’s definitely gluten-free! The gluten-free flour blend is what makes it possible. It tastes great because of the bananas and other ingredients. Give it a try!

    2. User avatar Treebeard says:

      2 stars
Are you sure it’s gluten-free? Just because it tastes good doesn’t mean it’s safe for everyone. I’m concerned!

  28. User avatar chassidy.olson78 says:

    4 stars
I’m not gonna lie, 2 cups GF flour felt like a lot for only 3 bananas, but it baked fine. Next time I might cut the sugar slightly.

  29. User avatar beulah.wilderman2004 says:

    2 stars
Mine didn’t cook in the middle at 60 min—still gummy. And I used only 1 banana by mistake (oops), so that’s probably my fault. But the directions are clear, so I’ll try again.

  30. User avatar porter.bernier72 says:

    5 stars
Made this yesterday and it turned out so moist! The banana flavor really comes through, and the walnuts add a nice crunch. I used a slightly sweeter gluten-free flour blend and it still worked great.

  31. User avatar clarine.gerlach1956 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about gluten-free baking, but this turned out great. Just a bit too sweet for my taste, though.

    1. User avatar norman.schiller says:

      5 stars
I’m glad it worked out for you! You can reduce the sugar next time if it’s too sweet. Maybe try adding some cinnamon for flavor too!

  32. User avatar humberto.tromp1 says:

Took me a while to bake properly, but worth it. My house smells amazing!

    1. User avatar iluminada.douglas says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! I love when my house smells like fresh bread. What does it taste like?

  33. User avatar abel.mcclure18 says:

    2 stars
Why would you put butter in a banana bread?? Seems weird to me.

  34. 5 stars
I substituted the sugar for honey. Best decision ever! Sweet and healthy. ❤️

    1. User avatar shantel.goodwin says:

      5 stars
I never thought of using honey instead of sugar. That sounds so good! I might try that next time!

    2. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

      3 stars
Honey? Really? Isn’t that a lot sweeter? What if it messes with the bread texture?

  35. User avatar afton.will50 says:

    5 stars
SUPER GOOD! My kids loved it and they can be picky.

    1. User avatar Fiddlesticks says:

      4 stars
That’s awesome! My kids usually don’t like bananas, but I might give this a try!

    2. 3 stars
I tried this recipe but it came out kinda dry. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  36. User avatar manda.larkin58 says:

    4 stars
Sooo easy to make! I didn’t have walnuts, so I used pecans instead. Still delicious!

  37. User avatar reina.gislason89 says:

  39. User avatar newton.bruen1971 says:

Yummy! I love bananas and this bread is like heaven. I’m a gluten-free gal now! 🙂

  40. User avatar yelena.sipes says:

    1 star
What do you mean gluten-free? Just use regular flour. Trust me it’ll be better! 😂

    1. User avatar dimple.stamm69 says:

      4 stars
Gluten-free can actually be SUPER tasty! I’ve made it before, and it turned out great! Don’t knock it till ya try it. 😉

    2. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

      2 stars
Nah, I don’t get why you would wanna make it gluten-free. More flavor with regular flour, for sure! 😤

  41. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    2 stars
Recipe looks easy, but my eggs didn’t fully mix—kinda scrambled-ish spots. Maybe my melted butter was too hot. I shoulda let it cool first. Still ate it anyway 😅

  42. 3 stars
Not bad, but mine was a bit dense in the middle even after 60 minutes. I think my bananas were smaller and my oven runs hot/cold. Might add 5-10 min next time and check earlier.

  43. 5 stars
I love bananas! First time making banana bread, and it was easy. Thanks!

  44. User avatar les.witting73 says:

    4 stars
I was worried about the gluten-free texture, but it turned out tender. Only tweak: I toasted the walnuts first for more flavor. Great recipe, easy steps.

    1. 3 stars
Hmm, 60 min seems long for gluten-free—mine usually gets dry. Did you cover it with foil near the end?

    2. User avatar sherril.hegmann1987 says:

      5 stars
Glad it stayed tender! Toasting the walnuts is such a good call—more nutty flavor for sure.

  45. User avatar judie.murray96 says:

    5 stars
This banana bread is amazing! So moist and delicious. I can’t believe it’s gluten-free!

    1. 5 stars
I tried it too! It was super good! My kids loved it!

  46. 2 stars
I tried this recipe but it didn’t rise much. Maybe my baking soda was old? Not impressed.

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, it could be the oven temp too. My bread came out super fluffy. Maybe try again and make sure everything is fresh!

    2. User avatar antony.little says:

      4 stars
Sounds like your baking soda might’ve been the problem. Always check the expiration date before using! This recipe has worked great for me!

  47. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
60 minutes? Mine took 45 and came out wet. Toothpick trick saved me but I was confused. Maybe my bananas were too juicy…

    1. User avatar morris.huels says:

      5 stars
Totally get the confusion—gluten-free banana bread timing can swing a lot. If your bananas were extra juicy, the extra moisture can make it stay “wet” longer, so 60 minutes might not cut it. I usually start checking at 45–50 and keep going in 5-minute increments until the center is set (toothpick clean). Also make sure your oven is actually at 350°F and the loaf pan isn’t too small/thick.

  48. 4 stars
Really good recipe! I always mess up bread but this was easy to follow. Thanks!

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad you liked it! Bread can be tricky, but it sounds like you nailed it this time. 😊

    2. User avatar malissa.ward65 says:

      2 stars
I tried this and it was a disaster! My bread didn’t rise at all. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  49. 4 stars
Not a fan of gluten-free stuff, but this was surprisingly good! Will make again!

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, gluten-free stuff usually tast weird. But if you liked it, maybe ill give it a shot.

    2. 4 stars
I was skeptical at first too, but it’s nice to hear it turned out well! What other gluten-free recipes do you recommend?

  50. 3 stars
Texture was a bit crumbly for me, like it didn’t fully set. I think my gluten-free flour blend was drier than yours? Flavor is good, just needs tweaking.

  51. 1 star
Bananas are not even bad for you! So why make it gluten-free? It’s just bread.

  52. 4 stars
Gluten-free baking is always a gamble, but this recipe was pretty straightforward and the flavor is great. I sprinkled a tiny bit of extra sugar on top and it browned nicely.

    1. User avatar Falmer Warmonger says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—gluten-free can be hit or miss. Love that it browned for you. I always worry about sugar amounts, but a tiny sprinkle sounds like the sweet spot!

  53. User avatar louis.champlin says:

    3 stars
I don’t have the gluten-free flour, can I use regular flour instead?

  54. 3 stars
Instructions were kinda confusing. Mixing dry and wet was tricky. Still, it tasted ok.

  55. User avatar leandro.zieme2011 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and the loaf kinda sank in the middle. I’m wondering if my baking soda is old? The flavor was fine, just the texture wasn’t very “bread-like.”

    1. 3 stars
Mine did this too once. I think I used baking powder instead of baking soda lol (my bad). But honestly, gluten free banana bread is more “cake-y” than real bread. Maybe expect a softer crumb? Also make sure your loaf pan is actually 9×5, or it’ll bake uneven.

    2. 4 stars
Ugh, that’s frustrating. If you followed the steps and it still sank, old baking soda is definitely a suspect—but also gluten-free flour blends can behave wildly. Did your toothpick come out clean but still look a bit wet? I’ve had loaves sink if the center wasn’t fully set at 60 min.

  56. 3 stars
I tried making it but it didn’t rise much. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      4 stars
Don’t worry! Gluten-free bread can be tricky. Maybe your oven was too hot? Or the flour mix wasn’t right? Just keep trying! 😊

  57. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    5 stars
Made this today and it turned out super moist—those ripe bananas really shine. I swapped walnuts for pecans and still loved it. Next time I’ll maybe bake 5 minutes longer because my loaf was a bit gooey in the middle.

  58. User avatar Otis Zemlak says:

    3 stars
I didn’t have walnuts so I used pecans—tbh it was okay but not as good. Also my batter was thicker than expected, so I had to spread it more.

  59. User avatar Pepe C. Cola says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about 2 cups gluten-free flour + 1 tsp baking soda only. But it actually rose! Texture is a bit crumbly, like most GF breads, but it tastes homemade.

  60. User avatar mitsue.kutch says:

    3 stars
This was just okay, I’ve had better. Might try adding chocolate chips next time.

  61. User avatar jarrod.schiller says:

    1 star
Five stars? nah. Too sweet for me. Also walnuts are kinda expensive where I live.

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      4 stars
Totally get it—gluten-free baking can already taste sweeter, and 1/2 cup sugar might be too much if you like it less sweet. You could try cutting the sugar down (even 1/4 cup) and see how it goes. Also, walnuts are pricey… pecans or even skipping nuts (or using cheaper seeds) could work too. Five stars is debatable 😅

  62. 5 stars
Made this today—super moist and the banana flavor really comes through. I used a slightly sweeter gluten-free flour blend and it still worked great. Will definitely bake again!

    1. User avatar man.schmidt35 says:

      3 stars
hm gluten-free flour mix usually makes it turn out dry for me, but glad it worked for you. I might try with less sugar next time though—mine is always too sweet.

    2. User avatar rayna.kub says:

      5 stars
So nice to hear!! I love when the banana flavor actually shows up. Did you use the same bake time with the sweeter GF flour blend?

  63. User avatar Feral Falmer says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about gluten-free flour baking for 60 minutes exactly. Mine was definitely underdone at 60, but after another 15 it was good. Also, I used salted butter—salt felt like too much. Still tasted great though.

  64. User avatar kandy.predovic59 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but my loaf took closer to 70 minutes. Also my gluten-free flour blend was a little different (had xantham gum) so the batter was thicker than expected. Still tasty though.

    1. User avatar bong.boyer says:

      5 stars
Good to know about the extra time—mine usually runs a little longer too. And yeah, different gluten-free blends (xanthan gum especially) can really change the batter thickness. Glad it was still tasty though!

  65. User avatar steve_maga says:

    5 stars
This banana bread is amazing! So moist and delicious. ❤️

    1. 5 stars
I tried it and it was so good! My family loved it too! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  66. 4 stars
Gluten-free baking always surprises me. The chemistry is weird. I followed it exactly and it actually rose nicely, not like dense brick bread for once. Nice!

  67. 3 stars
Gluten-free baking always gets me nervous. This recipe seems decent, but I wish it said what GF flour blend to use (like with xanthan gum). Mine was a bit crumbly.

  68. User avatar Vanryth says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 2 cups of gluten-free flour seems like a lot for only 3 bananas. I added an extra splash of milk (like 1-2 tbsp) and it improved the texture a lot.

  69. User avatar romelia.swift1960 says:

    4 stars
My loaf stuck a little even though I greased the pan. Should I line with parchment? Either way, it tasted great—hubby ate it before it cooled lol.

  70. User avatar dyan.will says:

    4 stars
Not bad at all for gluten-free. The flavor is homey and the crust browned nicely. Only thing: my batter felt a little thick, so I added 1-2 tbsp milk and it came out fine.

  71. User avatar cary.durgan2 says:

    1 star
Eh. Gluten-free flour blends are all over the place—this didn’t magically fix it. Texture was kinda gummy for me. Maybe I overmixed? Anyway, won’t be my go-to.

  72. User avatar Natividad Oberbrunner says:

    4 stars
The top got a little too dark at 60 minutes. I’d suggest checking at 50. Still tasted great with the walnuts.

  73. 5 stars
Made this today—super fragrant and the banana flavor really comes through. I used walnuts like the recipe and it stayed moist even after cooling. Definitely baking again.

    1. User avatar mathWizard says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The banana really does shine here. I’m glad it stayed moist after cooling too—mine usually dries out if I let it sit. Did you let it cool on the rack the full time or slice sooner?

    2. User avatar wesley.beahan98 says:

      3 stars
I tried it but mine came out kinda gummy in the middle after 60 min. I used a different gluten-free flour blend though, so maybe that’s why. Still smelled great, just not “clean toothpick” great.

  74. User avatar debbi.hettinger says:

    3 stars
I think it’s missing something… like cinnamon? It tastes a little plain to me. Also I accidentally used 1/2 tsp salt instead of 1/4, maybe that affected it, but yeah, needs tweaking.

  75. User avatar lindsey.kub says:

    5 stars
This turned out super moist! I used a vanilla-y gluten-free flour blend and the banana flavor really shines. Walnuts add the perfect crunch.

  76. User avatar hobert.shanahan says:

    5 stars
Tried this today and it came out super moist—those ripe bananas really do the heavy lifting. I added an extra pinch of cinnamon too. Would make again!

  77. User avatar bobbie.schmidt1986 says:

    3 stars
Not convinced about 1/2 cup sugar with bananas—mine was less sweet than I expected. Maybe use sweeter bananas or bump sugar a little.

  78. 3 stars
Looks easy. Maybe I’ll try it.

  79. User avatar dawna.torphy1971 says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly and it tasted bland to me. Like… where’s the sweetness? I’d bump the sugar next time or maybe add cinnamon.
