Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread

February 17, 2025

Easy cheesy garlic bread is the perfect combination of buttery, garlicky goodness with a melty, cheesy topping. This quick and simple recipe transforms a loaf of bread into a warm, golden side dish that everyone will love. Whether served alongside pasta, soup, or just as a snack, it’s sure to become a family favorite.

The base of this cheesy garlic bread is a crusty loaf, like French or Italian bread, which offers a satisfying crunch on the outside while staying soft on the inside. The key to a flavorful garlic bread is in the garlic butter spread. Freshly minced garlic, combined with softened butter, creates a savory base that soaks into the bread, infusing it with that classic garlic flavor. A sprinkle of salt and a dash of Italian seasoning (like oregano or basil) add an extra layer of herbaceous goodness.

To make the cheesy part, a generous amount of shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese is spread over the buttered bread. You can even mix in a bit of Parmesan for added sharpness and richness. Once the bread is topped with cheese, it’s baked until the cheese melts into gooey perfection and the edges of the bread turn golden brown. The result is a comforting, cheesy masterpiece that’s crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, and full of bold garlic flavor.

Easy cheesy garlic bread is incredibly versatile. You can add extra toppings like red pepper flakes for a little heat, or fresh herbs like parsley for a burst of freshness. If you’re craving a more substantial snack, add some cooked bacon bits or a drizzle of olive oil on top for extra flavor. You can also use different types of cheese, such as provolone or fontina, to give the bread a unique twist.

This dish is ideal for last-minute gatherings, family dinners, or cozy nights in. It’s quick, easy to make, and always a crowd-pleaser, making it a must-try recipe that never goes out of style.

Easy to make but I accidentally burned it! Watch those last minutes closely.

  15. 2 stars
I don’t know about this.. The bread got kinda hard for me. Maybe I overcooked it? Anyone else have that issue?

    1. User avatar devin.fritsch7 says:

      4 stars
It might’ve gotten hard if you left it in too long. Try reducing the baking time next time! It’s so good when it comes out soft and cheesy.

    2. User avatar bryan.ferry97 says:

      3 stars
Honestly I think your oven might be hotter than 375°F, that can happen! Or maybe your bread was old? Don’t worry, happens to the best of us.

  16. 5 stars
This bread was a hit at our family dinner! The cheese was so gooey and delicious. Will definitely make it again!

  17. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

Okay so I forgot to soften the butter and tried to mix it anyway. It turned into little chunks, but somehow the oven melted it all and it was still tasty. Would recommend giving yourself extra mixing time lol.

    1. User avatar Saruman the White says:

      5 stars
Honestly that sounds like a win—chunks or not, garlic butter finds a way 😂. I’ll still soften it, but good to know it’s forgiving!

  18. User avatar lyda.batz says:

    5 stars
This is delicious, but I think you need more garlic. 3 cloves wasn’t enough for my taste. Also I added a pinch of red pepper flakes and now it slaps.

    1. User avatar jere.weissnat says:

      5 stars
Agreed—3 cloves feels light. I usually bump it to 4–5 and it really makes the garlic bread pop. Glad the red pepper flakes worked for you!

    2. 3 stars
Hm I liked it as-is tbh. 3 cloves is already strong if your garlic is decent? I’m scared extra garlic will burn or get too bitter. But if you like it, do you!

  19. User avatar alissa.kuhn31 says:

This was sooo good! My family devoured it in minutes. Definite keeper!

It was good but a little greasy for my taste. Maybe less butter next time?

  22. User avatar david.mann69 says:

Just cheese bread… wouldn’t make it again. I feel like it needs more herbs or something. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.

    1. 4 stars
Totally get it—mine was a bit plain until I added more parsley/Italian seasoning. I’d also try a pinch of oregano or red pepper flakes. The garlic butter base is good, it just needs more punch.

  23. User avatar Mrs. Daryl Dach says:

    2 stars
I made it! But I used cheddar cheese instead and it was a disaster! Not the same lol.

  24. User avatar lady.reilly40 says:

Yum! Just what I needed for a family dinner. Dats some good bread!🔥

  25. User avatar numbers.gerhold85 says:

It was okay but honestly it didn’t have enough garlic for me. Thought it’d be stronger.

    1. User avatar danelle.harber63 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! I usually add way more garlic too. It really enhances the flavor!

  26. 3 stars
Easy to make but my cheese burnt a bit. Next time, I’ll keep an eye on it!

This is the best garlic bread I’ve ever made! So cheesy and delicious.

    1. 3 stars
Looks good but isn’t it too greasy with that much butter? Might try half the amount.

    2. 5 stars
I can’t wait to try this! Garlic bread is my favorite and cheesy too? Yum!

  29. User avatar marla.gislason1963 says:

I don’t get why people like garlic bread so much. This one was just meh for me.

  30. User avatar teena.cronin71 says:

Isn’t garlic bread just bread with garlic? I thought it would be more complicated. Still it tasted good.

  31. User avatar abdul.pagac54 says:

    3 stars
I tried this and it was alright, but I think it could use more garlic. It just felt a bit bland to me.

    1. User avatar andra.white27 says:

      5 stars
I get what you mean! I always add extra garlic too. It’s the best part! 🧄

  32. 4 stars
I used garlic powder instead of fresh garlic because I was out. Still tasted good!

  33. User avatar Li Shenlong says:

    3 stars
Too much garlic for my taste. Also, what is parsley? Can I use something else?

  34. 4 stars
I don’t have mozzarella, can I use cheddar instead? Asking for a friend!

  35. User avatar Connie Pouros PhD says:

Yum! Made it for a party and everyone asked for the recipe! So cheesy!

  36. User avatar Super Saiyan Vegeta says:

    3 stars
I messed up and put too much cheese! It was still yummy tho. Just a bit cheesy for my taste.

  37. 3 stars
Meh. It was ok. I’ve had better at restaurants. Not worth the hype.

  38. User avatar alec.hayes says:

    2 stars
I followed it but somehow my garlic butter tasted kinda raw? I’m minced it fine and everything. Maybe my butter wasn’t softened enough? Confusing.

    1. User avatar jamar.white says:

      4 stars
That’s super frustrating—sounds like it could be the garlic butter not fully blending with the butter warmth. If the butter is just firm/cold, the garlic won’t mellow as much. Try letting the butter sit a few minutes (or microwaving like 5-8 seconds) so it’s spreadable, not melted.

    2. 4 stars
Mine did this once too. I think my bake time wasn’t enough—the cheese melted but the garlic never really “cooked.” Next time do 15-18 min and aim for golden edges. Also, raw garlic can taste sharp even if it’s minced fine.

  39. User avatar randolph.sanford says:

    5 stars
Garlic bread is life. 10/10 will make again.

  40. User avatar Colette Ward DDS says:

    4 stars
Can I use a different cheese? I have cheddar, will that work?
