Dirt Cups with Oreo

October 14, 2024

Dirt Cups with Oreo are a fun and nostalgic dessert that combines crushed Oreos, creamy pudding, and gummy worms to create a playful and delicious treat. Perfect for kids’ parties, Halloween celebrations, or any event where you want to add a little whimsy to your dessert spread, Dirt Cups are sure to bring smiles to everyone’s faces. With layers of rich chocolate pudding and crunchy, chocolatey Oreo crumbs, this dessert mimics the look of dirt, creating an irresistible combination of textures and flavors.

To make Dirt Cups, start by preparing a rich, chocolate pudding. You can use instant pudding mix or make homemade pudding from scratch for a more indulgent touch. Once the pudding is ready, fill small cups or bowls with a layer of the creamy chocolate mixture. The next step is to crush Oreos into fine crumbs, which will serve as the “dirt.” Simply pulse the cookies in a food processor or place them in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin. Sprinkle a generous layer of Oreo crumbs on top of the pudding.

For added fun, place gummy worms on top of the “dirt,” making it look as though they’re crawling out of the dirt. You can also sprinkle extra crumbs on top or add additional decorations like candy flowers, sprinkles, or mini plastic garden tools to enhance the theme. The beauty of Dirt Cups is their versatility—feel free to get creative with your toppings, such as adding chocolate chips, marshmallows, or other candy that fits the theme.

Dirt Cups with Oreo are a no-bake dessert that’s easy to make and fun to serve. They’re perfect for kids but can be enjoyed by adults as well, offering a playful twist on classic chocolate desserts. Whether you’re making them for a birthday party, a fun treat for a family gathering, or a Halloween party, Dirt Cups are sure to be a hit.

These treats are also a great option for making ahead. Simply assemble the cups and store them in the refrigerator until ready to serve. The pudding will set nicely, and the Oreo crumbs will stay crunchy, making for the perfect bite every time.

I made these Oreo dirt cups for a family gathering, and they were an absolute hit! The recipe is simple, and the result is both impressive and delicious. The kids loved the ‘dirt’ look, and the Oreo crumbs were the perfect touch for the dessert. I’ll definitely be making these again, especially for themed parties! Thank you for this amazing recipe!

Haha! Yeah, I love how it looks like dirt but tastes way better! Kids will enjoy this for sure! 🐍

Not sure about this… I mean, dirt? Really? I guess if you like chocolate, it’s a win? 🤔

I forgot to add the worms and it was still yum! 🍫

    1. 5 stars
Worms? That’s a new level of creativity! Glad you enjoyed it! 😂

Not gonna lie, I thought it would be too sweet, but the pudding + cookies balance pretty well. Would make again for a party.

I dunno, it was kinda bland. My kids prefer cake.

Weirdly, I used vanilla pudding by accident and it still worked, but the flavor wasn’t as Halloween-y to me. Recipe says chocolate for a reason I guess.

  8. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, it’s basically pudding with cookies and candy. Still good, just not exactly gourmet.

  9. User avatar Vladimir Harkonnen says:

I made these for my son’s birthday, and everyone loved them! So easy to make too!

  10. User avatar jefferey.metz65 says:

Pretty easy to make but my pudding was lumpy. I don’t think I mixed it enough.

  11. 3 stars
Uhm… why is it called dirt if it’s basically dessert? 😂 Also my gummy worms got kinda soggy—next time I’ll put them on last minute.

  12. User avatar Hasimir Fenring says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why anyone would eat dirt cups. This seems kinda weird, not gonna lie.

  13. 5 stars
These are ridiculously fun to make. The “dirt” texture actually worked really well, and the gummy worms look so creepy-cute!

Is this a recipe or what? I just see crushed cookies and pudding.

  15. User avatar douglass.wolff79 says:

Why would you use gummy worms?? Just ruins it! Stick with just Oreos and pudding, smh.

    1. User avatar ashlie.hansen1955 says:

      5 stars
I think the gummy worms add a fun touch! It makes it more festive, especially for kids. They love it! 🍬

    2. User avatar mathWizard says:

      2 stars
But Oreos with pudding is classic! Gummy worms just sounds weird to me. 😕

Looks easy but where do u get ‘tombstone’ cookies? Never heard of that.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      3 stars
I think ‘tombstone’ means you make cookies that looks like a tombstone? Not a real thing in stores, though.

    2. User avatar adolph.brakus48 says:

      4 stars
You can make tombstone cookies using sugar cookie dough and some icing! They don’t come pre-made, at least not where I live.

  17. 4 stars
Pretty easy, but I think I made the Oreo crumbs a little too fine. It turned more like sand than dirt, lol.

  18. User avatar corrin.mayert says:

    3 stars
The cemetery look is adorable, but the tombstone cookies were hard to place without breaking. Next time I’ll plan that step better.

  19. 3 stars
Um, do you really need the whipped cream? It seems like an unnecessary step…

    1. 5 stars
I think the whipped cream adds a nice touch! It makes it look more festive, plus who doesn’t love extra cream? 😂

    2. User avatar natalya.gibson says:

      3 stars
Honestly, I agree. I mean, why make it more complicated? The Oreos and pudding are perfect on their own. Just too much going on!

  20. User avatar edie.hessel34 says:

This was a flop for me. The pudding didn’t set right, and it just tasted off. Not sure what I did wrong.

  21. 3 stars
I followed the steps exactly and mine looked more like chocolate gravel than dirt 😅 Still delicious though.

    1. User avatar Draugr Thrall says:

      4 stars
Mine did that too, but I think it was because I used instant pudding and didn’t let it set long enough. Next time I’ll chill it longer so it firms up more. Still tasted good though 😬

    2. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      5 stars
Honestly that sounds PERFECT 😂 “Chocolate gravel” is basically the dream texture for these. I bet the gummy worms looked extra creepy-cute with it!

  22. User avatar Dr. Danilo Lockman says:

    3 stars
Um… what are tombstone cookies? How do I make those? 😕

  23. 1 star
Didn’t work for me. The pudding separated from the oreos. I don’t know why.

    1. User avatar shaunte.kulas11 says:

      3 stars
I don’t get it; mine turned out fine. Did you mix them too soon or something? 🤔

    2. User avatar piedad.leffler59 says:

      4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe the pudding was too warm when you added the Oreos? That might cause separation.

  24. User avatar kristian.hoeger says:

    2 stars
I just don’t get it. Doesn’t dirt have a lot more nutrients? These were sweet, too sweet for my taste!

    1. 4 stars
I see your point about nutrients, but dirt isn’t exactly digestible! These are meant to be a fun treat, not a salad! 😄

    2. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

      3 stars
Dirt can’t be sweeter than sugar! If you want less sweetness, maybe skip the whipped cream? Just a thought.

  25. User avatar Woody U. No says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, this is kinda messy. The crumbs get everywhere, but it’s also fun. I’d do it again for sure.

    1. User avatar sophie.skiles87 says:

      5 stars
Same! The crumbs were everywhere, my kitchen looked like a construction site 😅 but the end result is totally worth it. Also the cemetery vibe with the gummy worms is perfection.

    2. 3 stars
I tried once, and yeah it’s fun, but I think I did the layers wrong—my pudding mixed with the crumbs and it was more like chocolate sand. Still tasted good though. Next time I’ll pack the Oreos down more?

  26. User avatar Jacinto Schiller says:

    2 stars
I didn’t have gummy worms, so I used sour worms instead. BIG MISTAKE! 2 stars.

    1. 4 stars
I actually think sour worms could add a nice tangy twist! But I get it, not for everyone. Maybe try again with the right gummy worms?

    2. User avatar Dr. Berneice Klein says:

      2 stars
Why would you use sour worms? That’s just dum. Stick to the recipe next time!

  27. 2 stars
Dirt cups? Really? Who wants to eat dirt? LOL.

  28. 3 stars
Not sure why everyone raves about this. Tasted fine but seemed too messy for me. I prefer my desserts neat.

  30. User avatar wellRespected says:

Mine turned watery after a few hours in the fridge. I think I let the pudding sit too long before layering.

  31. User avatar harley.wilkinson61 says:

    2 stars
I just don’t get it. It’s just pudding and cookies! Where’s the nutritional value?

  32. User avatar odette.ankunding36 says:

    4 stars
My kids loved helping—especially decorating with the gummy worms. I skipped the whipped cream and it still tasted awesome.

  33. User avatar calista.runolfsson86 says:

These were a big hit at my kid’s party! Thanks!

I dunno, this seems kinda messy. Aren’t there easier Halloween treats? 🤷‍♂️

    2. 5 stars
I love that this recipe brings back such sweet memories! Can’t wait to try it for my kids this Halloween! 🎃

  37. 5 stars
Yum! Kids loved helping with making it! 🤪 Love the gummy worms!

    1. 2 stars
Really? Gummy worms? I don’t think my kids would eat that. Who wants worms in their dessert? 🤔

    2. User avatar Leeann Spinka says:

      5 stars
That sounds like a blast! I’ll have to try this with my kids too! 🥳

  38. User avatar lai.fritsch1963 says:

    4 stars
I swapped the chocolate pudding for vanilla and it worked fine too! Pretty flexible.

  39. 2 stars
I’m sorry but Oreo pudding like this feels kinda heavy. Also my gummy worms melted slightly in warm pudding, so maybe chill the cups longer before decorating.

  40. User avatar Frost Giant says:

    5 stars
These dirt cups are ridiculously easy—my kids loved the cemetery theme. I used extra crushed Oreos and it turned out perfectly “soil-like.”
