Cranberry Walnut Salad

September 19, 2024

Cranberry Walnut Salad is the perfect combination of fresh, crisp, and flavorful. It brings together sweet dried cranberries, crunchy toasted walnuts, and a mix of fresh greens for a salad that feels anything but boring. With its mix of textures and vibrant flavors, this dish is a refreshing addition to any meal, whether served as a side or enjoyed as a light main.

What makes this salad so appealing is the harmony between the ingredients. The cranberries provide a sweet-tart burst that complements the earthy richness of the walnuts. Tossed with fresh greens like spinach, arugula, or mixed lettuces, the flavors balance beautifully. Additions like creamy goat cheese or feta elevate it even further, adding a tangy contrast that ties everything together.

This salad is a go-to for holiday gatherings, dinner parties, or even a quick weeknight meal. It offers a lighter option on the table while still feeling substantial and satisfying. The crunch from the walnuts pairs perfectly with the softness of cheese and the chewy sweetness of the cranberries, creating a bite that is both interesting and comforting.

The beauty of a Cranberry Walnut Salad is how adaptable it is. Some versions include thinly sliced apples or pears for an extra layer of sweetness and crispness. Others might add roasted butternut squash or sweet potatoes for a heartier, fall-inspired variation. A simple vinaigrette, often made with balsamic, apple cider vinegar, or a splash of citrus, brings it all together without overwhelming the fresh ingredients.

It’s also the kind of dish that feels right all year round. Light enough for spring and summer but with enough richness to stand up to heartier fall and winter meals. Whether served alongside roasted meats, soups, or casseroles, it complements a wide variety of flavors and textures.

Cranberry Walnut Salad is proof that a salad can be so much more than just greens on a plate. It’s fresh, flavorful, and full of contrast, offering a mix of sweet, savory, crunchy, and creamy in every bite.

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely love this salad! Perfect for picnics.

Made this for lunch and it was honestly pretty good. I used regular balsamic and it still worked. Next time I might add a little more feta though.

  3. 3 stars
IDK about the feta cheese part. I prefer cheddar, can I switch?

  4. 1 star
    Meh. Salad is salad lol.

  5. User avatar nila.erdman4 says:

    5 stars
This salad is amazing! Perfect for lunch. I added some grilled chicken and it was even better.

  6. User avatar diana.kuhlman57 says:

    5 stars
This salad is such a refreshing treat! I love the combo of cranberries and walnuts, it’s perfect!

  7. 2 stars
Looks easy, but I don’t trust the feta cheese. Can’t it spoil? Ugh.

  8. User avatar chun.herzog50 says:

    2 stars
Sounds healthy and all, but I dunno… salad just never fills me up. I prefer burgers.

    1. 4 stars
You can always add some grilled chicken or steak to it! That’ll make it more filling. 🥗🍗

  9. User avatar halley.damore2026 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly but my vinaigrette seemed kinda too much? Like it got a little soggy after a few minutes. Still good flavor though, just serve right away like it says.

  10. 3 stars
I was out of walnuts so I used pecans. Is that still okay? Still turned out nice.

    1. User avatar jovita.leuschke says:

      3 stars
I dunno, using pecans instead of walnuts seems like cheating! But if it tasted good, who am I to judge?

    2. User avatar yesenia.torphy1983 says:

      4 stars
Pecans are a great substitute! I think they add a nice flavor too. Glad it turned out nice for you!

  11. User avatar lakeshia.smith84 says:

    5 stars
I added sliced apples and it turned out amazing. Honestly, this recipe is a great base—easy and hard to mess up.

This salad is amazing! The cranberries add a nice sweetness.

    1. User avatar samira.schimmel95 says:

      5 stars
I agree, the cranberries really bring the salad to life! So refreshing!

    2. User avatar nancey.klocko says:

      2 stars
Is it really that good? I don’t like cranberries much.

  13. User avatar lucie.okuneva says:

    5 stars
This salad was amazing! The cranberries and walnuts really add a nice crunch. Definitely a keeper!

  14. 2 stars
Too many greens for me. I prefer my salads to be more ‘hearty’ with like chicken. Not for me.

  15. User avatar noble.wolf33 says:

    3 stars
Hmmm, I didn’t really like the taste. The balsamic was too strong. Maybe less next time?

  16. User avatar malcolm.watsica11 says:

    2 stars
This salad is so basic. Anyone can just throw some stuff in a bowl! What’s the big deal? Not impressed.

    1. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but sometimes simple is best! A good salad can be really refreshing, especially with the cranberries and walnuts. 😋

  17. User avatar loyd.blanda5 says:

    2 stars
I dunno about this one… Feta cheese and cranberries just don’t mix in my opinion. I prefer ranch dressing, thank you!

  18. User avatar ken.collins16 says:

    5 stars
This is such a nice balance of sweet and salty. The walnuts add a great crunch, and the feta makes it feel way more “restaurant-y.” I’ll definitely make it again.

  19. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

    5 stars
This salad is amazing! Super fresh and the cranberries give it a nice sweetness.

  20. 5 stars
Yum! Only thing I changed was using pecans instead of walnuts. Still tasted great!

  21. User avatar Rhett Collier says:

    5 stars
Super easy to make and really fresh! Perfect for a light lunch. I used lemon vinaigrette instead, turned out great!

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      3 stars
Lemon vinaigrette sounds good, but isn’t that too tangy for a salad? I prefer the balsamic. 🤔

    2. User avatar virgil.bernhard60 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! I made it for my lunch today and added some grilled chicken. It was amazing!

  22. 5 stars
This was such a nice balance of sweet and salty. The feta really pops with the cranberries, and the walnuts add a great crunch. I used a store-bought balsamic vinaigrette and it still tasted fancy.

  23. User avatar elane.deckow97 says:

    2 stars
I thought the walnuts were too much. It made the salad all crunchy and I don’t like that. Not a fan. 😒

  24. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    2 stars
I dunno, I just don’t think cranberries belong in salad. To each their own, I guess.

  25. User avatar lesley.daugherty50 says:

    3 stars
I would add some chicken or maybe apples for crunch. The recipe is okay but needs something more.

  26. User avatar gary.ritchie74 says:

    4 stars
Mixed greens? I used romaine by accident. It was still good!

  27. User avatar dean.rolfson77 says:

    3 stars
The measurements are a little confusing though. 1/4 cup walnuts feels random—like how many walnuts is that?

    1. User avatar milton.okuneva says:

      5 stars
Totally get you—“1/4 cup walnuts” does sound vague. I usually just chop the walnuts and scoop, but if you want a rough count, it’s about 15–20 walnut halves (varies by size).

  28. User avatar fern.gottlieb says:

    5 stars
So refreshing and healthy! My kids even liked it!😋

  29. User avatar dallas.schiller58 says:

    5 stars
I don’t usually put dried fruit in salads, but wow… it’s good. I’ll definitely make this again.

    1. User avatar Yooden Vranx says:

      5 stars
Same here—I usually skip dried fruit too, but the sweet-tart cranberries with the feta and walnuts is honestly such a good combo. Definitely worth repeating!

  30. 5 stars
Yum! My kind of salad. Just perfect for lunch, verry tasty.

  31. User avatar sally.mccullough19 says:

    3 stars
I don’t care for salads much, but this one was not bad. Surprised me! Though I could do without the cranberries.

    1. 4 stars
Glad you liked it! You can always leave out cranberries next time. They ain’t for everyone!

  32. User avatar hannelore.kunze79 says:

    2 stars
Wait, “serve immediately”?? I mean I tried to meal prep it and the greens got soggy. Kinda ruins it if you’re not eating right away.

  33. User avatar carri.ziemann says:

    4 stars
Tbh, I thought it would be too sweet with all those cranberries, but it’s actually pretty good! Might add some cooked chicken next time.

  34. 5 stars
Yum! I switched feta with goat cheese and it’s delish!

  35. User avatar mellie.hermiston46 says:

    1 star
Salad? Who needs salad?! I prefer pizza, thanks.

    1. User avatar wilbert.upton60 says:

      4 stars
Pizza’s great and all, but this salad is super tasty too! Give it a try one day!

    2. User avatar amos.boehm67 says:

      2 stars
Salad is just rabbit food. Who wants to eat that when you can have a slice of pie? Ugh.

  36. User avatar ming.abernathy1988 says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but 2 tbsp of vinaigrette felt like not enough for my bowl. Next time I’ll go a little heavier.

  37. User avatar rolanda.tromp78 says:

    1 star
Salad? No thanks. I’d rather have a burger. But hey, to each their own, right?

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      4 stars
Burgers are great, but have you tried adding some chicken to this salad? It’s actually pretty filling! 🍔🥗

  38. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    4 stars
Honestly, I didn’t think mixing fruits with greens would work, but this was surprisingly good. I might add some chicken next time.

    1. User avatar cody.mitchell13 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad you liked it! Adding chicken sounds like a great idea. The more protein, the better!

    2. User avatar muriel.ledner says:

      3 stars
Really? Mixing fruits and greens? That’s weird, but I’ll take ur word for it. I think I’ll stick with just lettuce tho.

  39. User avatar jackie.cummerata says:

    5 stars
Simple and tasty! Love how quick it is. 🙂

  40. User avatar Hasimir Fenring says:

    4 stars
Pretty good for a salad! Who knew cranberries and feta would work so well? Looking to impress family now.

  41. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    5 stars
This salad is so good! I love the tartness of the cranberries with the walnuts. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

      5 stars
I tried this salad too! It was delish, especially with the feta. I didn’t have walnuts so I used sunflower seeds instead and it worked great! Definitely making it again!

  42. 5 stars
This salad is amazing! The flavors are perfect together. I love the crunch of the walnuts! 🍽️

  43. User avatar johana.koelpin says:

    4 stars
Tossing gently is key. I might add a little more vinaigrette next time because mine tasted a bit dry after plating.

    1. User avatar lorraine.macejkovic64 says:

      4 stars
Hm, I kinda get it. My vinaigrette was already thick though, so I added a few drops of balsamic + olive oil and it helped. Maybe your greens were extra dry? Still tastes great either way.

    2. 5 stars
Good call—mine always needs a touch more vinaigrette than the recipe says. If it’s dry after plating, I’d either drizzle right before serving or add 1 more tablespoon and toss again.

  44. 2 stars
Is balsamic vinaigrette the same as regular vinegar? I’m confused!

  45. User avatar cathleen.cummings says:

    2 stars
Did it have to be feta? I used cheddar instead, tasted weird but still fine.

  46. User avatar essie.bartell26 says:

    5 stars
This salad was a hit at our family dinner! The cranberries add a great touch. Loved it!

    1. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear it was a hit! The cranberries really do add a nice sweetness. Great choice!

  47. User avatar kai.stokes says:

    1 star
Cranberries in a salad? Ain’t that weird? I’d stick with lettuce and ranch dressing.

    1. User avatar harlan.dickinson27 says:

      4 stars
Cranberries add a sweet twist! Give it a try before judging. 😊

  48. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    4 stars
Used ranch dressing instead of balsamicky whatever. Still tasted good lol.

    1. User avatar sidney.kertzmann says:

      4 stars
Ranch dressing? That’s a twist! I bet it was creamy and delicious. Might try that next time!

  49. User avatar rufus.volkman1976 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I love cranberries! I added some avocado too and it was bomb!

  50. 3 stars
I don’t really like walnuts, can I use pecans instead? Not sure if it’ll taste the same.

  51. User avatar maxine.cremin14 says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy salad recipe! Love that it doesn’t require cooking. Thanks!

  52. User avatar florence.runolfsdottir1980 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about feta in a salad. Seems kinda weird to me. I’d skip it next time.

    1. 4 stars
But feta is good! It makes the salad creamy and yummy! Don’t knock it till you try it!

    2. User avatar dirk.considine says:

      5 stars
I used feta in my salad and it was great! Adds a nice tangy flavor. You might change your mind if you try it.

  53. User avatar shena.cormier2013 says:

    3 stars
I think the walnuts were a bit too much for my taste, maybe almonds next time?

    1. User avatar Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings says:

      5 stars
I totally get that! Walnuts can be a bit strong. Almonds sound like a great idea! 😊

    2. 3 stars
I don’t think walnuts are too much, but maybe try less of them? Just saying.

  54. User avatar tatyana.mayert2020 says:

    4 stars
Made it for lunch and it was actually really tasty. The walnuts give a nice bite and the balsamic ties it together. Would make again.

  55. 4 stars
What a weird combo! But somehow it works. Will make again!

  56. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have walnuts so I used almonds instead, and it was still yum! Great recipe!

  57. User avatar donnell.dickens19 says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy! I just threw everything together and it tasted fresh. Not bad for a weeknight meal.

  58. User avatar ahmad.willms says:

    3 stars
My kids didn’t like the feta. They said is too weird. But I loved it! Will add more cranberries next time!

  59. User avatar Saruman the White says:

    1 star
    Meh.

  60. User avatar mario.wilderman says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! I did it in like 10 minutes. My kids even ate it!

    1. User avatar linwood.sawayn1956 says:

      3 stars
10 minutes? Really? I doubt it’s that easy. But, hey, if your kids liked it, maybe I should give it a shot.

    2. 5 stars
Wow, that sounds like a great recipe! I’m always looking for quick meals my kids will enjoy.

  61. User avatar Kerstin Mosciski says:

    5 stars
I used almonds instead of walnuts, still tasted great! Yum! You can switch things up! 🥗

    1. User avatar zaida.balistreri says:

      3 stars
But isn’t that… kinda different from the recipe? I mean walnuts are supposed to go in there. 🤨

    2. 5 stars
Great idea! I love almonds, too! They add a nice crunch!

  62. 2 stars
Meh. The feta flavor overpowered the greens for me, and my cranberries were kind of too tart.

  63. User avatar colby.koelpin says:

    1 star
I don’t get why people like salads. They taste like grass. I mean, what’s the point? 😂

  64. User avatar jean.dubuque99 says:

    2 stars
Meh, it’s just salad. I can’t really get excited about this.

  65. User avatar trenton.mosciski47 says:

    5 stars
    Delicious!!

  66. User avatar Chi Shenlong says:

    5 stars
This salad is surprisingly elegant for something so quick. The sweet-tart cranberries with the tangy feta is such a good combo—definitely making again.

    1. User avatar ward.stark20 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this is way fancier than the 5 minutes it takes. The cranberries + feta combo is *chef’s kiss*. I added a bit of cracked pepper and it made it pop even more.

    2. User avatar gregg.reilly1971 says:

      3 stars
Quick, sure, but I don’t know about the sweet-tart with balsamic—seems like it could be too tangy. Still, I might try it with a lighter hand on the vinaigrette. Also walnuts always make it better 😅

  67. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    3 stars
I’m not a fan of balsamic, is there something else I can use?

    1. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

      4 stars
You could try a honey mustard dressing instead! It might taste good with cranberries and walnuts.

  68. User avatar ebonie.doyle51 says:

    5 stars
Yum yum! Made this for a dinner party and everyone loved it! Will be making again for sure.

  69. User avatar jeffry.kerluke says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about this one. Walnuts and cranberries? Seems a bit strange to me.

    1. 4 stars
Strange? This combo is actually pretty popular in salads. Give it a try, you might be surprised!

    2. 5 stars
I think it sounds delicious! The walnuts and cranberries will add a nice crunch and sweetness.

  70. 1 star
    Salad? More like sad-lad. Pass.

  71. User avatar odis.braun72 says:

    4 stars
Simple and fresh! Perfect for summer picnics. Will definitely make again.

  72. 3 stars
Not sure the proportions are right. The feta felt kind of strong compared to the greens, and my vinaigrette didn’t coat evenly. Maybe I need to toss longer.

  73. User avatar julian.rempel says:

    5 stars
Cranberries in salad? Is that a thing? I thought it was weird, but it actually tastes good. LOVE IT!

    1. 2 stars
Cranberries belong in a pie or juice, not a salad! Sounds odd to me. Not sure if I wanna try it. 🤔

    2. 5 stars
I never would have thought to put cranberries in salad, but you’re right! It adds a nice sweetness! Who knew! 🤷‍♀️

  74. User avatar Isiah Hessel says:

    4 stars
Simple and honestly looks like something you’d order at a café. I might add a handful of sliced apples next time for extra freshness, but the recipe itself is solid.

  75. 4 stars
I didn’t have walnuts, so I used pecans. Still worked, though the flavor was slightly different. Would recommend to anyone with substitutions.

  76. User avatar brett.collier2008 says:

    1 star
I made this for my book club and everyone hated it! They said it was too tangy or something.

    1. 2 stars
I dunno, tangy sounds good. Maybe you should try a different dressing next time. Idk, just a thought.

    2. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      4 stars
That’s too bad! Maybe the balsamic was a bit much for them? I love tangy flavors, but I get that not everyone does.

  77. User avatar hershel.kreiger77 says:

    5 stars
This is such a nice sweet-savory combo. The balsamic really ties everything together, and the walnuts add the perfect crunch.

  78. 1 star
Meh. Too sweet for my taste.

  79. User avatar kaila.lowe4 says:

    4 stars
Y’all, this is a great dish! I switched out the feta for blue cheese and it was bomb! Easy and delicious.

  80. 5 stars
Cranberries + feta is always a win in my book. I used toasted walnuts too and they tasted way richer.

  81. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    3 stars
I really wanted to like this but it just felt kinda plain. Maybe add apples next time?

    1. User avatar julian.murazik says:

      4 stars
I think it’s just the nature of salads. Sometimes they can be simple! But apples would definitely add a nice sweetness! 🍏

  82. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
Not sure about dried cranberries in a salad—feels a bit too dessert-y to me. Walnuts + feta helps, but I’d rather swap the cranberries for something less sweet next time.

    1. User avatar sally.lakin52 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean—dried cranberries can tip it toward sweet. I usually balance them with extra tang (more balsamic or a squeeze of lemon) and maybe add sliced apples or pomegranate if I want more fruity flavor. If you want less sweet, try swapping for something savory like roasted chickpeas or even chopped celery for crunch.

  83. User avatar abel.spinka says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, I was expecting more flavor. It tasted kinda bland. Maybe I need to add more dressing?

  84. User avatar joel.rice96 says:

    1 star
Hate to break it to you but cranberries are not that good for you, better off with apples!

  85. User avatar rogelio.heller says:

    3 stars
Way too much feta for my taste—next time I’ll cut it in half. But I like the overall balance and the balsamic goes nicely with the greens.

  86. 3 stars
Good salad but walnuts are a choking hazard for me. Maybe add sunflower seeds?

  87. User avatar lorilee.fahey37 says:

    2 stars
I’m not sure about the feta here—cranberries are already tangy. It was okay, just not my favorite flavor mix.

  88. 5 stars
I’m not usually a salad person, but this one actually tasted like a real meal. Good crunch and sweet notes without being overpowering.

  89. User avatar carter.goldner14 says:

    4 stars
    Nice. Easy. Yum.

    1. 5 stars
Agreed—this is one of those salads that actually takes minutes and still feels fancy. The balsamic + cranberries combo is so good!

    2. 3 stars
I tried it, but I used regular cranberries (oops) and it was way too tart 😂 Next time I’ll follow the dried ones. Still, feta makes it work.

  90. User avatar mikel.streich22 says:

    3 stars
Cranberries in salad are okay but these dried ones were a little too chewy for me. Also walnuts got everywhere when I chopped them—maybe I need better technique lol.

  91. User avatar doyle.bartell15 says:

    2 stars
Not bad, but I found the cranberries a little too sweet. Would add some lemon zest or even a pinch of salt to brighten it.

  92. User avatar emery.marquardt says:

    4 stars
Super easy and quick! I made it in 10 minutes. Will make again for sure. Yum!

  93. User avatar soon.ebert11 says:

    5 stars
This salad is so refreshing! I loved the sweetness of the cranberries with the crunch of walnuts. Will definitely make again!

  94. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but the dressing amount feels a bit low. I tossed it and it was kind of dry until I added an extra splash of vinaigrette.

  95. 5 stars
Very simple! I made it as a side dish, and everyone liked it. Will make again!

  96. 4 stars
Simple, but not boring. I like that it doesn’t require cooking anything—just toss and go.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—simple but still flavorful. Love that it’s a “toss and go” kind of salad, and the cranberries + feta combo is the best.

  97. 2 stars
I tried it and honestly thought it would taste more tart. It ended up tasting sweet, sweet, sweet, then feta. Would prefer more bitter greens or less cranberries.

    1. User avatar tod.mueller1972 says:

      5 stars
Totally get what you mean—balsamic can read more sweet than tart, especially with cranberries. Next time you could use a more acidic vinaigrette (or add a splash of lemon) and maybe cut the cranberries a bit or swap in fewer. More bitter greens would definitely help balance it.

I added some grilled chicken to make it a meal. Really tasty!

I dunno about grilled chicken in a salad. Sounds kinda weird, right? Just me?

That sounds delicious! I love adding protein to salads. Grilled chicken is a great choice!

I followed it exactly and it turned out great. The feta got all melty-ish (not literally but ya know) and everything tasted balanced.

lol salads are always like 0 flavor. But this one surprised me. Maybe the balsamic did it.

Honestly I get what you mean—most salads are kinda meh. But yeah, balsamic vinaigrette can really pull the whole thing together. The sweet-tart cranberries + salty feta help too.

Cranberries? In a salad? Y’all are crazy, I prefer meat!

This salad is so refreshing! I love the combination of flavors. The feta really ties it all together. Will make again!

Not a fan of feta, so I skipped it. The salad was still good, but wish it had more flavor.

No feta? How can it be a salad without feta? That sounds weird to me.

You could try adding some extra nuts or even apple slices for more flavor! I think that would work great.

I used homemade balsamic vinaigrette and it was amazing. If you’re buying store-bought, choose one you’d actually drink with a spoon, lol.

Yes!! Homemade makes such a difference—store-bought can be hit or miss. “Drink it with a spoon” is so real 😂

This salad was delicious! I added some chicken for protein and it made it even better.

I tried this but it was way too sour for me. Balsamic + cranberries together hit like a truck. I might use less cranberries next time.

Takes 5 minutes, tastes like restaurant. Easy 10/10 lol

I made it for lunch—super fast and tasty. Only thing I’d change next time is a bit more vinaigrette because it felt slightly dry.

The measurements feel off… 2 cups greens seems tiny compared to the cranberries and nuts? Maybe my bowl was bigger, idk. Still tasty.

Kinda bland without adding salt/pepper. Maybe my vinaigrette wasn’t flavorful enough.

Made it for lunch and it actually stayed crisp for a bit. I only wish I’d chopped the walnuts smaller, but still delicious.

This is such a nice sweet-tart salad! The cranberries + walnuts combo is perfect, and the feta makes it feel fancy without much effort.

Simple and tasty! My whole family ate it, and nobody complained (rare). I’ll probably make it again for parties.

Love hearing that—nothing says “party win” like everyone finishing it 😄. Definitely saving this. How much balsamic vinaigrette do you usually use (2 tbsp seems perfect)?

This looks so fresh and flavorful—cranberries + feta is such a good combo. I’d add a little sliced apple too for extra crunch!
