Banana Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting

January 15, 2025

Banana bars with cream cheese frosting are the perfect combination of moist, tender banana bread and a rich, tangy frosting. These bars are incredibly easy to make and deliver the same comforting flavor as banana bread but in a lighter, more dessert-like form. The cream cheese frosting adds a luxurious, sweet touch that perfectly complements the soft, flavorful banana base, making these bars a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.

The key to these banana bars is the ripe bananas. Overripe bananas are ideal because they bring out the natural sweetness and moisture in the bars, ensuring a soft, tender texture. The banana flavor is front and center, but it’s balanced by the richness of the cream cheese frosting, which offers a tangy contrast that makes each bite even more indulgent.

The banana bar batter is simple, combining mashed bananas with sugar, eggs, butter, and flour. The addition of baking soda helps the bars rise, creating a light texture without being too dense. A pinch of salt and a hint of vanilla extract enhance the flavor, while cinnamon adds warmth and depth, though it’s optional. The batter is spread into a baking dish and baked until golden brown. Once cooled, the bars are ready for the frosting.

The cream cheese frosting is what truly elevates these banana bars. Made from cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract, it’s smooth, sweet, and creamy. The tanginess of the cream cheese perfectly balances the sweetness of the banana bars, creating a delightful contrast. For an extra touch, you can add a bit of lemon juice or zest to the frosting to give it a refreshing zing.

These banana bars with cream cheese frosting are incredibly versatile. They make a perfect dessert for family gatherings, potlucks, or even as an afternoon snack with a cup of coffee or tea. The bars can be made in advance and stored in the fridge, allowing the flavors to meld together even more.

Whether you’re a banana bread lover or someone who enjoys a sweet, creamy dessert, these banana bars are sure to be a hit. They are rich, moist, and bursting with banana flavor, all topped with a silky cream cheese frosting that makes them absolutely irresistible.

These banana bars are absolutely divine! The cream cheese frosting takes them over the top. Definitely a 5-star recipe!

  2. User avatar edda.lesch3 says:

I don’t care for bananas, but my friend made these and they were super good! Just have a sweet tooth, that’s all. 5/5!

    1. User avatar Meriadoc Brandybuck says:

      4 stars
Bananas or not, I guess if they taste good, that’s what matters! Glad your friend liked ’em! 🍌

    2. User avatar lindsay.runolfsdottir93 says:

      2 stars
Sweet tooth indeed! But I don’t see how banana can taste good… I need a proof next time. 🤷‍♂️

  3. User avatar Shadout Mapes says:

    4 stars
Yum! My kids loved these, but I think I used too many bananas. Next time I’ll stick to just two. But overall, they were a hit! 4 stars!

  4. User avatar bernardo.kunde67 says:

    2 stars
Tried it, but mine came out really dense. Maybe I mixed it too much? I don’t know. Just didn’t work for me. 2 stars.

    1. 4 stars
I think you might’ve overmixed the batter! Just mix until it’s combined, and it should be lighter. Don’t lose hope, try again!

  5. User avatar robert.baumbach2 says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy, but I needed closer to 30 minutes in my oven. Toothpick came out clean around then. Tasted great after chilling 1 hour.

    1. User avatar ginger.wisozk says:

      3 stars
I tried these but 25 min was way too short for me—more like 40. Also I didn’t have “ripe” bananas so I just used regular and it tasted kinda bland. Might try again though, frosting looks good.

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      5 stars
Good to hear! Mine also runs a little longer at 350—oven temps vary so much. Chilling helps the frosting set up too. Thanks for sharing the timing.

  6. 2 stars
Easy recipe, but mine came out kinda dry… Maybe I overcooked them?

    1. 3 stars
Dry? Oh no! I just don’t get how that happens. Mine were super moist. Maybe use a bit more sour cream?

    2. User avatar rey.rodriguez98 says:

      4 stars
I think you might’ve baked them too long! Try checking them a few minutes early next time.

  7. 2 stars
Pretty mid. The banana was nice, but the sweetness level felt a lot, especially with 4 cups powdered sugar.

  8. 4 stars
I substituted applesauce for butter and they turned out delish! Healthy yet yummy! 🥳

  9. 3 stars
I don’t know, mine turned out kinda dry. Maybe I overbaked it? A bit disappointing.

  10. User avatar The Allitnils says:

    3 stars
I had high hopes, but the frosting was too sweet for my taste. Maybe less powdered sugar next time?

    1. User avatar salome.schmidt1958 says:

      4 stars
I think the sweetness is a big part of what makes frosting delicious! But yeah, you could always adjust it to your liking. Maybe try adding some lemon juice to balance it out?

    2. User avatar angel.kohler85 says:

      3 stars
Less sugar? Nah, I love it sweet! But I get it’s not for everyone. Just remember, the more sugar, the more fun! 😄

  11. User avatar dannie.dooley says:

    3 stars
The frosting was too thick for me. I ended up adding a splash of milk and it softened right up. Flavor is still great, just adjust consistency.

  12. User avatar Magrathean sperm whale says:

    4 stars
I used light cream cheese and reduced powdered sugar a little. Still tasty, but frosting wasn’t as fluffy. Would make again though.

    1. 4 stars
Good to know! I’m curious—did you whip the light cream cheese with the butter long enough? I’ve found it takes a bit longer for a fluffier texture when using lighter brands.

    2. User avatar Lance Kihn says:

      3 stars
Hmm I might try it but I always thought “light” cream cheese makes everything kinda loose. Maybe next time add a little extra powdered sugar or chill the frosting before spreading?

  13. User avatar stormy.shanahan says:

    3 stars
They were okay, but too sweet for my taste. The frosting was a bit much.

  14. User avatar almeda.zemlak77 says:

    3 stars
The flavor is great, but the frosting is a lot. I used the full amount and it was super sweet—like, almost too much. If you’re not a frosting person, cut powdered sugar a bit.

  15. User avatar victorina.thiel86 says:

    2 stars
I had a similar recipe that used peanut butter instead of frosting, and it was way better!

    1. User avatar ahmed.carroll says:

      3 stars
Nah, cream cheese is the best! Peanut butter just makes it too heavy. Stick with the recipe!

    2. User avatar rigoberto.weber says:

      4 stars
Peanut butter sounds interesting, but cream cheese frosting has its charm! Can’t beat that tangy flavor!

  16. 5 stars
These banana bars are sooo good! I can’t believe how moist they are. Definitely making these again!

    1. User avatar eleonora.feeney34 says:

      5 stars
I agree! These banana bars are the best! So fluffy and sweet! Can’t wait to share them with my friends.

    2. User avatar delmar.white75 says:

      3 stars
They look good, but I’m not sure about the sour cream. Isn’t that for savory dishes? 🤔

  17. 4 stars
Pretty tasty, but mine turned out a bit dense (maybe I overmixed the flour). Still, the frosting saved it. Would make again with gentler mixing.

  18. User avatar roland.wisozk1975 says:

    4 stars
I used bananas that were a bit underripe and the banana taste wasn’t strong. Ripe bananas really matter here.

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Goku says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—ripe bananas make a huge difference. I once used barely yellow ones and they came out kind of “meh,” not banana-y at all. Now I always wait for mine to get spotty before mashing. Great save with your experience!

  19. 5 stars
These banana bars are a hit! So moist and creamy. My kids loved them!

  20. User avatar chelsey.kunze25 says:

    4 stars
My frosting was grainy for a minute until I beat longer. If anyone else has that issue, don’t panic—just keep mixing.

    1. User avatar Fenchurch says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Mine was grainy too at first. I almost gave up but kept beating and it turned smooth after a few more minutes. Good tip—thank you!

    2. User avatar ashlea.kreiger says:

      3 stars
I thought I followed the recipe, but my frosting stayed kind of gritty. Maybe my cream cheese wasn’t soft enough? Also I beat it pretty briefly—oops. Still tasty though, just not pretty.

  21. 5 stars
    Delish!

  22. User avatar clemente.vandervort1 says:

    4 stars
My kids loved these! Perfect snack for their lunch boxes, will be a regular from now on.

    1. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad your kids loved them! These bars are such a hit with my family too. Perfect for a sweet treat!

    2. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      2 stars
Really? Are they that good? I tried banana bars once and they were too mushy. I might pass on this one.

  23. User avatar lon.cruickshank says:

    5 stars
These came out super moist—like, almost pudding-level. I used very ripe bananas and it really showed. Frosting is dangerously good. Will make again for sure.

  24. User avatar vada.lindgren1959 says:

    3 stars
Not bad at all, but 25 minutes feels short. Also my banana bars stuck slightly even though I greased. Maybe parchment next time.

  25. User avatar jada.swift1971 says:

    5 stars
My kids devoured these. I accidentally used 1 cup sour cream but also added an extra spoon of flour and it came out okay. Lazy wins!

    1. User avatar regina.anderson48 says:

      4 stars
Hold up… you used 1 cup sour cream? That’s double the recipe’s 1 cup anyway (unless I’m reading wrong). But if it still came out okay, I’m willing to try—kids love it means science works 😂

    2. User avatar ollie.donnelly says:

      5 stars
Aw this makes me so happy—banana bars + cream cheese frosting is basically a kid-proof combo 😄 And honestly, those “oops” tweaks sometimes do work!

  26. User avatar eddie.barrows says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, 25 minutes felt short. I pulled them at 25 and they were a little gooey in the center—just needed longer.

  27. User avatar Chrystal Glass says:

    1 star
Can this be made with chocolate frosting? I don’t like cream cheese.

  28. User avatar evelyne.hagenes18 says:

    2 stars
I tried it but the batter seemed too thick? also I used 9×13 but maybe my pan was deeper? Idk. They tasted good, just not the texture I expected.

    1. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

      4 stars
Ooh that makes sense. If your pan was deeper (or your bananas were more mashed than usual), it can make the bars bake up tighter and the batter feel thicker. Next time, try adding 1–2 tbsp sour cream or a splash of milk to loosen it just a bit—also make sure you only mix the flour in until combined (overmixing can make it thick/dense).

    2. User avatar nanette.rosenbaum76 says:

      3 stars
I’m pretty sure 25 min is too short for 9×13—if it’s deeper it needs longer. Mine were kinda gummy until I baked like 35-40 min and checked with a toothpick. But hey, if they tasted good, you’re not far off. Maybe don’t add more liquid though… just cook longer lol.

  29. User avatar tuyet.abshire75 says:

    5 stars
Easy to follow! I made these for my book club and everyone couldn’t get enough! Will make again!

    1. 5 stars
I also made these and they were a hit! So easy and delicious. Thanks for sharing!

    2. 3 stars
They look good but I wonder if they really taste as good as the picture. Has anyone tried substituting the sour cream?

  30. 1 star
Bananas?! YUCK! Who puts bananas in bars? Not for me. 😒

    1. 5 stars
Bananas are the best! They make everything moist and sweet. You should give it a try! 🍌

    2. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

      2 stars
Yea, bananas in a dessert kinda weird. I don’t get it either. How can you like banana bars? 🤔

  31. User avatar tyree.bogan34 says:

    5 stars
Bar bananas good!! I love them, my grandma makes them too.

  32. User avatar derrick.legros32 says:

    4 stars
Good! My dog loved it too. 😂

  33. User avatar quinton.wehner79 says:

    2 stars
Who put sour cream in a banana bar? Sounds weird, but I’ll give it a try I guess.

  34. User avatar lani.cremin1957 says:

These banana bars are amazing! So moist and tasty! A definite hit at my party!

    1. User avatar guadalupe.feeney5 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! These bars are so good, my kids couldn’t get enough of them!

  35. 5 stars
Followed the recipe exactly and they came out moist. I baked closer to 28 minutes because my oven runs cool, but the toothpick test saved me.

    1. User avatar margeret.littel2 says:

      4 stars
I tried it once and mine were kinda gummy in the middle, but I also didn’t cream the butter/sugar long enough. 28 min sounds reasonable if your oven runs cool—thanks for the tip. 🍌

    2. User avatar hung.beatty49 says:

      5 stars
Love hearing this! My oven runs warm, so I usually pull them earlier—good reminder about checking with a toothpick. The sour cream + banana combo really does make them extra moist 😊

  36. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
Do you have to use sour cream? Can I use yogurt? I wanna make these but scared to mess it up!

  37. 3 stars
I followed it exactly and it was okay… not wow. Texture was more like banana bread than bars. Not bad, just not special.

  38. User avatar delmer.nienow says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the ratio—2 cups flour vs 1 cup sour cream seems off to me. I used slightly more vanilla and it still tasted a little bland. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

    1. User avatar nada.swaniawski says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean—2 cups flour to 1 cup sour cream feels a bit dry on paper. I usually add a splash of milk (like 1–2 tbsp) if the batter seems thick, and make sure the bananas are really ripe and mashed well. Also, did you measure flour by spooning into the cup vs scooping? That can make a big difference and could be why yours tasted bland.

  39. User avatar kati.rodriguez81 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought these would taste more like banana bread, but it’s more like a dessert bar. Still enjoyable though. My family said it’s like banana cake bars.

    1. User avatar Hoyt Rempel says:

      4 stars
Totally get that! Mine came out more like a thick banana cake bar than true banana bread too. I think the frosting and the baking time make it feel more dessert-y. Glad your family noticed the same thing!

    2. 3 stars
Wait… 25 min and they come out like bars? I tried something similar once and it was all dense and wet in the middle 😅 Maybe my bananas were too big or I underbaked. If I want more banana bread vibes, would I reduce frosting or bake longer?

  40. User avatar weldon.buckridge56 says:

    5 stars
These turned out super moist and the banana flavor is spot on. I added a pinch of cinnamon too—highly recommend. Frosting was creamy and not overly sweet for me. Yum!

  41. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

    2 stars
idk about the frosting… too creamy? like cheesecake vibes. i prefer less sugar but everyone ate it lol.

  42. User avatar harry.halvorson41 says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, 4 cups powdered sugar sounds insane. I cut it in half and it was still sweet enough for me. Texture was perfect that way.

  43. User avatar joe_banana says:

    5 stars
Made these tonight—so moist! The banana flavor is spot on, and the frosting is dangerously good. I used extra vanilla just because. Will bake again.

  44. User avatar otha.rau47 says:

    3 stars
I tried these and they turned out kind of dry. Not sure what I did wrong.

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      4 stars
Maybe you overbaked them? The time can vary a lot based on your oven! Try checking a few minutes earlier next time.

  45. 5 stars
These banana bars are dangerously good. The cream cheese frosting makes them taste like a bakery treat. I baked mine closer to 28 minutes just for my oven, and they were perfect.

  46. User avatar debra.macejkovic93 says:

    3 stars
Is 350°F really the right temp? That seems high for banana bars…

  47. 5 stars
Yummm!! I can’t stop eating them! Even my kids loved them!

    1. 3 stars
They are good, but I didn’t really like the sour cream in it. Maybe I’ll try without it next time.

    2. User avatar cordell.farrell1960 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! I made these for a potluck and they disappeared super fast! The creamy frosting is the best part.

  48. User avatar liana.heaney says:

    3 stars
Can I use almond flour instead of regular flour? Asking for a friend.

  49. User avatar daniel.bins says:

    5 stars
Wow. Banana bars like dessert-cake vibes. I shared them and everyone asked for the recipe. Will make again for sure!

    1. 5 stars
Right?! The cream cheese frosting really makes it taste like real dessert. 😄 Thanks for sharing—hope it turns out awesome when you make it again!

  50. 4 stars
My kids devoured these! Easy recipe and I love the cream cheese frostin’. Definitely making again!

  51. 3 stars
I had high hopes but they turned out a bit dry. Not sure what I did wrong.

  52. User avatar Kimbra Rogahn II says:

Cream cheese frosting is where it’s at. I’m usually skeptical about powdered sugar frosting but this one tastes legit. Next time I’ll make it thicker by using a bit less sour cream in the base.

  53. User avatar Deku Tree Sprout says:

    1 star
Honestly, not for me. Bananas and frosting? What’s the deal with that??

  54. 4 stars
Pretty good! I can’t believe how easy it was to make them. Will make again!

    1. User avatar ivory.prosacco57 says:

    2. User avatar ryan.wilkinson1954 says:

      3 stars
Really? They seemed a bit complicated to me. Did you find any tricky parts?

  55. User avatar kerstin.nikolaus says:

    5 stars
These are dangerously good. The banana flavor is subtle but super nice, and the cream cheese frosting makes it feel like a fancy dessert.

    1. User avatar wendell.donnelly23 says:

      5 stars
Seriously—dangerously good is right. I made these and the banana is way more “real” than I expected. That cream cheese frosting is the real star though… I could eat it by the spoon 😂

  56. User avatar tomeka.keebler says:

    4 stars
I’m not a big fan of bananas, but these bars are surprisingly delicious!

  57. User avatar Dwarven Centurion says:

    5 stars
Honestly I was skeptical about mixing sour cream + bananas but wow. Texture is like a dense but tender cake bar. Frosting came out smooth.

    1. User avatar Draugr Death Overlord says:

      5 stars
I was skeptical too—bananas + sour cream sounds kinda weird—but your results sound exactly like what I want. Good call letting it cool completely before frosting!

  58. 5 stars
My kids loved these! I added some chocolate chips and it was a game changer!

    1. User avatar laurie.schmeler1979 says:

      5 stars
Chocolate chips sound like a great idea! I bet the kids loved them even more! 🍫

    2. 2 stars
I’m not sure about adding chocolate to banana bars. Aren’t they supposed to be fruity? 🤔

  59. User avatar kelly.tromp says:

    5 stars
Made these today and they turned out super moist—like bakery-style. The frosting is dangerously good. Only thing: my oven runs hot so I pulled them closer to 22 minutes.

Yum! I added walnuts to the batter and it turned out amazing! Highly recommend!

  61. User avatar shelby.moen17 says:

Hmmm, never made anything with sour cream in it. Doesn’t sound right.

  62. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    4 stars
I was worried about 25 minutes, but the toothpick test helped. Sweet enough without being too much, and the banana flavor is noticeable. Will definitely bake again.

  63. User avatar joana.haley1976 says:

    4 stars
I liked the texture, but the frosting is a little too sweet for my taste. Would reduce powdered sugar maybe by 1/4 cup?

  64. User avatar alexa.oreilly42 says:

    4 stars
Good comfort-food bars. Mine were a tiny bit dense (maybe I overmixed after adding the flour). Next time I’ll mix less.

    1. User avatar salley.rutherford says:

      5 stars
Good to know—thank you! I’m planning to make these soon, and I’ll definitely mix the flour just until combined. Dense bars are always a bummer, so that tip helps.

  65. 5 stars
These banana bars are a hit! I added walnuts for some crunch. Yum!

    1. User avatar willie.schoen70 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love the idea of adding walnuts. I might try that next time!

  66. 5 stars
I made these for a potluck, everyone loved them! Definitely a crowd-pleaser.

  67. 5 stars
Yummy! The frosting is the best part! I could eat just that!

  68. 5 stars
I’m not usually a frosting person, but this one is legit. Smooth and fluffy, and it holds up well on top.

  69. User avatar josue.morar says:

    3 stars
Mine were a little gummy in the middle after 25 minutes, so I guess my bananas were extra wet? I re-baked and they improved. Flavor was great even if the texture was off at first.

  70. User avatar jamal.pacocha1989 says:

    5 stars
I’m not usually a banana dessert person, but this is legit. The cream cheese frosting makes it taste bakery-level. Easy steps too.

  71. 3 stars
Too much sugar! I cut it back but it still felt sweet. Don’t need all that!

  72. 3 stars
These are good, but why 4 cups powdered sugar?? That’s like a snowstorm in a bowl. I used 3 cups and it was still sweet.

  73. User avatar Cary Weimann IV says:

    2 stars
I followed everything and it’s just… meh. Too sweet overall, and my bananas didn’t taste prominent. Also 9×13 seemed small for the batter.

  74. 4 stars
The batter was kinda thick after mixing the flour—had me nervous. But it baked up fine and wasn’t dry at all. Love the sweet/tang combo.

  75. 5 stars
Made them for a potluck and they disappeared fast. Sweet, soft, and the banana flavor actually comes through. Next time I’ll add a pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth.

  76. 1 star
Ehh… I followed it but my frosting got lumpy and won’t smooth out. Taste was fine but the texture was gross. 🙁

  77. 4 stars
I’m not usually a “baking” person, but the steps were clear. I subbed light sour cream and it still worked. Will definitely make again for brunch.

  78. User avatar lanell.reichert says:

    2 stars
Why is everyone raving about cream cheese? I think regular vanilla icing is better.

  79. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

    3 stars
The batter felt really thick (maybe my bananas were less ripe). I baked them anyway and they were okay, but a bit dense. Frosting saved it though.

Banana and cream cheese? Sounds weird but I’m intrigued! Gonna give it a try.

    1. 5 stars
I was skeptical too at first, but it’s surprisingly delicious! The cream cheese really balances the sweetness of the bananas. Enjoy!

Made these last night and they turned out super moist. Frosting is dangerously good—sweet but not grossly overpowering. My 9×13 took a couple extra minutes though.

The flavor is great, but mine stuck to the pan even after greasing. I’d recommend lining with parchment next time.

    1. 5 stars
Thanks for the tip! Mine always stick a little too—greasing alone never feels like enough. Parchment lining sounds like the fix.

Not gonna lie, 4 cups powdered sugar feels like A LOT. I used 3 cups and it was still plenty sweet. Bars are tasty, but frosting could be dialed back.

The instructions say bake 25 minutes, but mine clearly wasn’t done at 25. I should’ve checked earlier—could’ve been gooey in the middle. Still ate it anyway 😅

I think I overmixed the batter because I was rushing—mine is a bit tough. Still edible though. Frosting saved it.

So good! I added some nuts, totally made it even better!

Nuts sound like a great addition! I’m gonna try that next time. Thanks for the tip!

These turned out super moist and the banana flavor is nice and strong. I baked mine closer to 28 minutes, just to be safe—perfect!

    1. User avatar august.conn says:

Yes!! I love when the banana flavor really comes through like that. And good call on baking a bit longer—mine usually runs a few minutes too fast too. These sound dangerously good 😄

I think mine got a little too moist? Like the toothpick still had some crumbs at 25 min but I pulled it anyway. Maybe I should’ve done the 28 like you. Still tasted great though—super banana-y.

  88. 5 stars
Just made these and they are sooo good! The frosting is to die for!! 😍

  89. 5 stars
These banana bars are amazing! The frosting is the best part!

  90. 2 stars
Kinda mid, ngl 😅 but my fault—I used bananas that weren’t really ripe. Would try again with real spotty ones.

The sweetness level is high (in a good way). I followed it exactly and it turned out nice, but next time I’ll reduce powdered sugar in the frosting a little.

  92. User avatar fabian.larkin12 says:

So good!! The frosting spread like clouds. Also, the recipe says cream butter and sugar till fluffy—mine looked kinda grainy at first but smoothed out after a few more minutes.

banana bars?? sounds good but my cream cheese frosting never gets fluffy. I beat it for like 3 minutes and it stayed lumpy. Maybe my cream cheese was too cold…

  94. User avatar Dan Druff says:

Idk the ratios seem weird to me—2 eggs for that much flour? I tried it and it was kinda gummy. Maybe my bananas were too wet. Wouldn’t make again unless someone explains how to fix it.

  95. User avatar elyse.cole28 says:

Good flavor but mine took closer to 30-35 minutes at 350F. Toothpick trick saved me. Next time I’ll cool fully before frosting so it doesn’t melt.

  96. User avatar bill.hackett97 says:

I followed the recipe pretty much exactly, but mine needed closer to 30 minutes. Still delicious though—soft crumb and nice tang from the sour cream.

  97. User avatar Andy Gravity says:

25 minutes felt short—mine was still wet in the middle. I ended up adding another 10 minutes and then it set.

  98. User avatar naoma.hegmann2022 says:

This is good but mine came out a little gummy in the center even after cooling. I think I underbaked? Or maybe I overmixed the flour—oops.

  99. User avatar hipolito.hermann67 says:

Very easy recipe. I love that it doesn’t require any fancy equipment. Only downside: it takes forever to cool before frosting or it melts (ask me how I know).

I love banana desserts. This one tastes like a banana bread cousin wearing cheesecake frosting. Big win for brunch.

  101. User avatar suzette.beahan says:

Pretty tasty, but mine stuck a little even though I greased the pan. Next time I’ll line with parchment for sure.

  102. User avatar gerry.brekke2017 says:

They taste like banana bread bars, which is a compliment. However, my toothpick didn’t come out clean at 25 minutes—more like 33. Still totally fine.

  103. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, 4 cups powdered sugar sounds insane. I used it anyway and it tastes like dessert overload (still good though).

  104. User avatar ewa.cummerata62 says:

I followed it exactly and the center was still a little underdone at 25 minutes. I had to extend the bake time, but after that they were good. Recipe’s solid—just know ovens vary.

    1. User avatar shayla.morissette says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—25 minutes seems right for some ovens, but mine runs hot/cold depending on the day. Glad you extended it and they turned out good! “Toothpick clean” is the key, but centers can lag.

    2. 3 stars
I don’t know, I baked mine 25 mins too and it was the same—kinda raw in the middle—so I just turned the heat down? Maybe my pan was smaller? Still, taste was great once I fixed it.

  105. 3 stars
Mine turned out a little too sweet with that many cups of powdered sugar. Still tasty, just next time I’ll reduce frosting sugar or add a pinch of salt to balance.

These taste like banana bread but bar form. My kids asked for seconds before it was even cooled.

  107. 2 stars
I’m skeptical of using baking soda with sour cream and no baking powder—did anyone else notice a slight chemical taste?

  108. User avatar rich.landlord says:

Followed the recipe pretty much exactly, and the frosting was the real star. Sweet but tangy, and it actually holds up when cut.

    1. User avatar Dr. Tora Torp says:

I love hearing this! I always worry cream cheese frosting gets runny, so “holds up when cut” is a big win. Might have to try your exact timing.

    2. User avatar ken.mcglynn46 says:

      4 stars
I tried something similar but my bars came out a bit dense—maybe I overmixed the flour part? Also I think I used unsalted butter once and it tasted kinda flat. That said, cream cheese frosting is always the best part so I believe you 😅
