Bagels with Bacon and Cheese

February 1, 2024

If you’re craving something savory to start your day, look no further than bagels with bacon and cheese. This perfect combo of crispy bacon, gooey cheese, and a fresh bagel will make your taste buds sing. It’s simple, satisfying, and incredibly easy to put together for a quick breakfast or a lazy weekend brunch.

Start with your favorite bagel, whether you prefer classic sesame, everything, or a plain bagel, the soft, chewy texture is the perfect base for all the toppings. Toast them until golden brown, so they’re crisp on the outside while staying soft inside. The toasty bagel provides the perfect contrast to the warm, melty cheese and savory bacon.

Speaking of bacon, cook it to your preferred crispiness. Whether you like it slightly chewy or perfectly crisp, bacon adds a satisfying crunch and smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with the soft cheese and bagel. Feel free to use regular bacon, turkey bacon, or even prosciutto for a twist on the classic.

Next, the cheese, a good, melty cheese is essential. Cheddar works wonderfully here, with its sharp, rich flavor that blends beautifully with the salty bacon. Mozzarella, gouda, or even a smoky provolone would also make great alternatives. You can place a generous slice of cheese on top of the bacon before finishing the bagel under the broiler for a minute or two, until the cheese is perfectly melted and bubbly.

Assembling the bagel is where the magic happens. Layer the crispy bacon and melted cheese on your toasted bagel, and you’ve got a dish that’s warm, comforting, and packed with flavor. Add some fresh arugula or a few slices of tomato for a pop of freshness, or drizzle with a bit of hot sauce if you’re in the mood for a little heat.

Bagels with bacon and cheese are perfect for when you want something quick yet indulgent. Whether for breakfast, brunch, or a satisfying snack, this combo never disappoints.

Uh, what’s a bagel? I thought that was a donut with holes haha. Can I make this with regular bread? 2/5

Just tried it, and my kids loved it! They usually don’t eat bagels but gobbled this up. Will make again!

These bagels are amazing! The bacon and cheese combo is everything. My family loved it.

  4. User avatar van.gislason54 says:

I followed it exactly and the cheese didn’t get as bubbly as the picture I had in my head. Maybe I used the wrong mozzarella? Also my oven runs hot.

  5. User avatar rochelle.ankunding1988 says:

They were okay, but I think they need something more. Maybe some spices or toppings?

  6. User avatar issac.kshlerin5 says:

Too much cheese for my taste. Wouldn’t make again.

  7. User avatar suzan.huels2011 says:

Pretty tasty, but 10 minutes for the bacon felt a little short? Mine needed more like 12–14 to get properly crisp. Other than that, the broiler step was perfect for bubbly cheese.

    1. User avatar Michael83 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—10 min is hit-or-miss depending on the thickness of the bacon. Mine was floppy at 10 too, I’d say 12-14 is safer. The broiler part really does make the cheese go bubbly though 😋

These are the best bagels ever! I added some avocado on top, and it was a game changer! 5 stars!

Bagels with bacon? Ugh, that doesn’t sound right…

Avocado sounds good! I’ll have to try that next time!

Bagels + bacon = breakfast of champions! Baltimore approve. 👍

  10. User avatar deandrea.prohaska says:

Why on earth would anyone broil cheese? Isn’t that how you burn it? I just melted mine in a pan on the stove, way better.

    1. User avatar renate.tillman1994 says:

      4 stars
Broiling cheese gives it that perfect crispy top! You gotta try it, it’s the best. I always do it for nachos too!

    2. 2 stars
Burnt cheese is gross! Just use the stove, much easier. Who has time for broiling anyway?

    Bacon on bread = yes.

I must’ve done something wrong. My cheese didn’t melt and it looked sad. 1/5.

  13. 4 stars
Way too much meat for me 😅 but my roommate loved it. Bagels were hot and cheesy, and the bacon turned out properly crisp.

  14. 5 stars
Bacon on top *and* cheese underneath? Honestly kinda genius. I’ll make it again.

    1. User avatar val.bradtke12 says:

      5 stars
Right?! The bacon on top gets all crispy, and the cheese underneath actually melts into everything. It’s like a messy breakfast sandwich but better 😄

  15. 5 stars
These bagels are the bomb! I used pepper jack cheese instead. 🍳🥯

  16. User avatar bryant.runolfsdottir17 says:

    3 stars
I think this recipe might be missing something…maybe some seasoning? It just seems plain.

    1. 4 stars
I agree! A sprinkle of garlic powder or some herbs would really elevate this dish. Can’t hurt to try!

    2. User avatar edward.hammes66 says:

      2 stars
Nah, I think they will taste fine like this. Bacon and cheese are overpowering enough!

  17. 2 stars
I don’t get why folks put cheese on bagels. Isn’t that a crime in the bagel world? 2/5.

  18. User avatar shirlee.dietrich10 says:

    3 stars
How do you broil? Is it like baking? I’m new to cooking.

  19. User avatar ben.thiel2025 says:

This is basically breakfast pizza but on bagels. I don’t hate that at all. Super satisfying, especially right out of the oven.

  20. 5 stars
These came out insanely good. The bacon got nice and crisp and the cheese turned all melty and bubbly—exactly what I wanted for brunch. Will make again!

  21. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

    5 stars
Yum! I just made these for brunch and they disappeared in seconds. So cheesy and crispy!

  22. User avatar jewell.doyle says:

    4 stars
Very good but I think it needed more cheese. 4 slices? I could eat like 8. 😂

  23. 4 stars
Soo good! My kids loved it! Easy to make, too. 4 stars because I wish it had more toppings.

  24. User avatar rickie.johnston77 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know… Baking the bacon? Is that even a thing? I usually fry mine and idk if oven is best for this.

  25. User avatar angela.schroeder says:

    3 stars
Not sure about 4 slices of bacon for only 2 bagels… seemed like a lot, but I guess it works if you love bacon. The melted cheese part was excellent though.

  26. 3 stars
I don’t have a broiler, can I just use a regular oven? Will it still work?

  27. 3 stars
Looks good, but why not use different cheese? Mozzarella and cheddar? Kinda boring.

  28. User avatar kip.mcglynn75 says:

    5 stars
Bagel plus bacon equals yum. That’s math, folks! 5 stars!

  29. 5 stars
These bagels are amazing! The bacon and cheese combo is to die for. Will make again!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! Bacon and cheese in bagels is like, the best thing ever! Can’t wait to try this myself.

    2. 3 stars
Sounds good, but can you really taste the bagel with all that bacon and cheese? I mean, isn’t it just a meat sandwich then?

  30. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    4 stars
Pretty heavy, in a good way. I ate one and was stuffed. Next time I’ll use only cheddar or only mozzarella, because that’s a lot of cheese slices.

  31. User avatar Jerry Daniel says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and somehow my cheese didn’t really “bubbly” much under the broiler. Maybe my oven runs cold. Still good, just not as dramatic.

    1. User avatar dusti.larkin says:

      3 stars
Mine does the same sometimes. I think it’s because the cheese slices sit on the bread and doesn’t get direct heat fast. Also 2–3 min is tight—if your bagels are still a little cool, it won’t bubble much. Still yummy though, so I wouldn’t worry too much.

    2. User avatar clement.hills51 says:

      5 stars
That’s so frustrating—broilers can be weird. If your rack is too low or your oven runs a bit cooler, the cheese won’t get that bubbly look. Next time try moving the rack closer to the broiler and broil the last 1–2 minutes more (watch like a hawk!).

  32. User avatar zackary.pfannerstill88 says:

    5 stars
My kids loved these! They ate them all up in minutes.

  33. 4 stars
Throw in some avocado next time! Would be delicious!

    1. 5 stars
That sounds like a great idea! Avocado would add a nice creaminess to it.

  34. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I burnt my first batch of bacon—350°F for 10 min is maybe a little aggressive depending on the oven. Still tasty though. Second try: better.

  35. User avatar guadalupe.herzog23 says:

    4 stars
Everyone loved it at home! Even my picky kids ate their whole plate, and that says a lot! Planning to make these for the family again during the weekend!

    1. User avatar odis.carroll says:

      3 stars
I dunno, bacon and cheese on bagels? Sounds a bit odd. My kids wouldn’t touch that! But glad it worked for you!

    2. User avatar kimberlie.becker10 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome to hear! Picky eaters can be tough. 👏 What other recipes do they like?

  36. User avatar marlena.rohan says:

    4 stars
Yummy!!! I can’t believe I never thought of this. So easy to make!

    1. User avatar jene.kuphal50 says:

      2 stars
But like, wouldn’t it be messy? I can see the bacon grease everywhere. Maybe I’ll pass.

    2. User avatar hayden.jacobs says:

      5 stars
I know right?! It’s super simple and delicious! I’ll definitely be making this for breakfast!

  37. 1 star
I don’t understand how people are using mozzarella with bacon? Sounds weird! I didn’t even try it, yuck. 1 star.

  38. User avatar reiko.kozey says:

    3 stars
Delicious, but my bagels burnt! Watch them under the broiler! lol

  39. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

    4 stars
This recipe is legit! My kids loved it, they said it’s better than a regular bagel shop!

  40. User avatar arturo.runte says:

    2 stars
Is mozzarella even supposed to go on bagels? Seems weird but whatever.

  41. User avatar chris.murphy says:

    2 stars
I think 4 slices bacon is too little for 2 bagels—could’ve used more. Also, the instructions say top with 2 slices of bacon each, so that’s confusing math.

  42. User avatar shavon.jacobson says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 350°F for the bacon is weird? I did 10 min and it was kinda chewy. Maybe my oven runs cooler. Tasted fine though.

  43. 3 stars
Bagels are good but I think the bacon needs to be crispy for it to work. Mine was a bit chewy.

  44. User avatar antonia.medhurst says:

    5 stars
These bagels are amazing! The cheese melted just perfectly, and the bacon was crispy. Will definitely make again!

  45. User avatar Sabre Cat says:

    5 stars
I just used whatever cheese I had in the fridge, still turned out great! 😊

  46. User avatar maragret.lowe93 says:

    3 stars
I tried these and they turned out sooo greasy! I think I used too much bacon…

    1. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

      5 stars
Greasy? I love greasy food! Maybe that’s why I can’t stop eating them!

    2. User avatar Marquis Murray says:

      4 stars
Maybe try using less bacon next time? I think just 2 slices would be enough!

  47. User avatar phillip.welch says:

    5 stars
These were ridiculously good—crispy bacon on top of melty cheese is such a win. I used thicker bagels and it still worked great. Will make again.

  48. User avatar horacio.funk0 says:

    1 star
Y’all, bagels are not made with bacon and cheese. It’s just wrong. Must be a fake recipe.

    1. User avatar Majikthise says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! Bagels are versatile, and this sounds delicious! Who says we can’t add bacon and cheese? 😋

    2. User avatar lanelle.hessel49 says:

      2 stars
I’m not sure about this recipe. Bagels should be more traditional, like with cream cheese. Bacon feels off.

  49. User avatar sheridan.gusikowski says:

    3 stars
Hmm, sounds good but you know bacon isn’t for everybody. I don’t eat pig, so I can’t really try this. Maybe you could suggest a turkey bacon option?

    1. User avatar ila.buckridge14 says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! Turkey bacon would be a great swap. Just make sure to adjust the cooking time if it’s different. 👍

  50. 5 stars
Bagels good. Bacon yummy. Cheese great. Me happy. 😊

  51. User avatar Corrupted Shade says:

    4 stars
Soo good! I added some avocado on top too. Try it out!

  52. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty much as written, but I used turkey bacon (because… health-ish). Still tasty, and the broiler step is key—don’t walk away.

  53. User avatar Rea Rutherford says:

    3 stars
Way too much cheese for me, personally. I get why people love it, but I’d do cheddar only next time or maybe half the mozzarella.

  54. 3 stars
I don’t know, the bacon was too greasy for my taste. Next time I’m using turkey bacon.

    1. User avatar domingo.abernathy2020 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, bacon is supposed to be greasy! That’s what makes it good. What’s the point if it’s not?

    2. User avatar florance.emmerich64 says:

      4 stars
Turkey bacon is a great alternative! Less grease and still tasty. Just be sure to season it well!

  55. User avatar Jarrod Hyatt says:

    5 stars
These bagels are amazing! I added some avocado on top and it was the best breakfast ever!

    1. User avatar christy.paucek says:

      3 stars
Avocado sounds weird on bagels with bacon, but if you liked it, go for it! 😄

  56. 4 stars
Pretty solid idea, but my bagels went a little too browned on the broiler. Next time I’ll keep a closer eye (like, every 30 seconds). Still tasted great.

  57. User avatar warren.jast68 says:

    5 stars
Bacon! Yes! Made this last night and wow, I can’t stop eating them. Highly recommend!

    1. 5 stars
OMG, I need to try this! Bacon makes everything better. 😍

    2. User avatar fredricka.rodriguez says:

      3 stars
Looks good but don’t you think bagels with bacon is kinda weird? Never thought of that combo.

  58. User avatar Blue Dartwing says:

    4 stars
The broiler time feels a bit short? Mine needed closer to 4 minutes to really brown. But overall great combo—salty bacon + melty cheese = winner.

  59. User avatar troy.gusikowski says:

    1 star
Gotta say, these bagels were really greasy. Not much of a fan.

  60. User avatar cleotilde.hoppe says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly, but my cheese didn’t melt at all. What do I do?
